Watching the re-run of the All Stars Tournament, I suddenly wondered if the reason for the team format (which I know was controversial) is that it was the only way to make a question of who would end in the final contest.  Usually the only suspense is who is competing with Ken and Brad--this way there was more of a chance that--as happened to Team Buzzy--that the mistakes of another player would catch one of them up and keep the competition open.  Of course, it didn't work that way, and I very nearly suspect them (though I don't think I do?) of making sure the first two matches didn't pair up Ken against Brad, eliminating possibly one of them before the final.

My only real beef with the tournament format, now that I've had a chance to rewatch, is not enough game play. Too much talking

You can almost get through three episodes in the time it takes to watch a typical episode.
