Mackenzie has three kids, runs a fitness business, and has a husband who doesn't understand how hard she works. On top of all this, she receives the worst news of her life when her mom Angie is diagnosed with stage 4 cancer.

Umm....is this "fitness business" one of her MLMs she shills for?

I actually got sucked into the story.  It was very pro Mac so obviously biased, but it did give an insight into part of the reason she is who she is and made me sympathize with Mac, even ignoring the cancer.  I did not expect to feel anything for her other than sympathy for losing her Mom.

I would enjoy seeing a continuation on her life, but only if it picks up like a year after her Mom passes.  It's just too voyeuristic and raw right now.  She would be a great replacement for whomever drops out next.

I enjoyed this episode.  It was refreshing to see relatively normal, WORKING, CHURCH-GOING people dealing with normal issues.  Did her mother pass?  The show didn't say.  If so, I'm so sorry.  Mom had a bit of a prickly personality, and I snickered a bit because her bucket list included somewhere with a BEACH, and they end up at a place with NO BEACH.  But, they managed to find one.  I was confused when the trip was leading up to Mackenzie apologizing to mom for her mean texts and the next thing you see is Mackenzie crying that her mom cared more about the grandkids than her.  Wait, what?!!?  Whatever, I get that mother/daughter relationships are complicated.  I hope they worked it all out before mom passed away.

I don't think they're better than others because they go to church. Most of the meanest, judgmental, racist assholes I know are church goers.

As far as I know, her mother is still alive.

While I couldn’t stand Mackenzie when she was 16 and pregnant and I can’t believe she had two more kids with that guy who seems totally high, I felt bad for her this episode. She clearly felt like the black sheep in her family and was just desperate to be accepted, and also feels terribly guilty given that her mom is dying. Though no one is seeming to accept that fact except her mom.

It seems like she and her mom just totally missing what the other is upset about. And it also sounds like her mom handled Mackenzie’s PPD horribly. The last thing a depressed person needs to hear is “get over it.” Very sad all around.

I completely agree with you.

Also the kids have some of the cringiest names ever. Broncs?! Good lord.

Take me out and shoot me if I ever name so much as a pet Broncs.  That's an awful name.

Part of the reason McKenzie is in the place she is is because of her religious parents.  They taught her abstinence instead of using actual birth control and she was pregnant at 15 (miscarried) and again at 16.  I don't know that I'd call that a normal family.  She ended up marrying and having 2 more kids with a man that has zero personality and treats her like shit.

I still couldn't quite get what they were going back and forth with though.  It just seemed like an endless argue sesh.

I agree completely.  They seemed to still be trying to make the other agree with their position, rather than just say 'this is how I felt at the time, and acted from those feelings'.  Then move on.  Her mom can't get over what Mac said to her when Mac wanted to kill herself?  She obviously wasn't thinking rationally at that time, Angie.  Geez.  Then Angie asks her, on the beach on their vacation, why did Mac think it was OK to say those things.  Then Mac tells her what was going through her mind (right or wrong, it's what made her think it was OK), and it dissolves into what I said above.  Then Angie climbs on her high horse and asks Mac why she's doing this right now on their beach vacation, when this vaca is about Angie and her illness.  You asked her on the beach during your vacation, Angie...  So Angie pretty much did NOT want to hear why Mac felt it was OK to say those things, she wanted Mac to accept the blame for everything ever.  Now I'm not saying that Mac isn't to blame for a lot of crap, but lady, you ASKED.

Loving post from Mac's Mom on her birthday:

Love how she takes MEDICAL ailments and calls her a hot mess.  Maybe I'm reading into it from the special, but I would be so beaten down if this was how my mother spoke to me publicly.

Wow ... that’s a happy birthday wish?

Happy birthday to my daughter, Mac, who has spent the last 24 years exhausting me as I've cleaned up her messes, even though some of it I guess maybe she can't really help because medical.  Thank goodness you were lucky enough to have me there to help you even though I might resent you for it and spent 24 years of my life fixing your mess in exasperation. You're welcome (because I know you're thankful). Also, Jesus and God.  #blessed

- Mac's Mom, basically

Ugh. No wonder Mac is a piece of work.

Thank you for summing this up so succinctly! I thought that's what she was saying, but couldn't believe someone would write that as a BIRTHDAY MESSAGE.

Angie has terminal cancer, and a foundation who's motto is "Always be kind".

That is not the message I would choose to leave knowing it could be the last thing i told her.

Cute Halloween pics of Mac's kids:

Thanks @TaxNerd for the photo! That's a really cute idea. Color me surprised she thought of that. I do think Mac is dim but I do have sympathy for her. She's going to have to grow up fast under pressure. I'm glad they didn't put her in the cast though. That's way too personal. I sure as hell wouldn't want to be filmed at this time.
