Do you think that TLC producers encourage parents to instruct their kids to act as rowdy as possible and then sit back and do nothing?

Yes. Jinger’s headship loves the camera - Gotta have a storyline!

Oh, I definitely think she has a touch of Mean Girl in her. When they were at dinner Mr. Swanson remarked Josiah was being healthy by eating a salad and Lauren snotty-like said "yeah, covered in ranch." She seems to have a thing with food, like she pats herself on the back for being ultra-healthy while passive-aggressively making digs at what everyone else is eating. She did it at the restaurant with the Duggar girls as well.

I don't know what it is with Lauren. I want to like her but something about her rubs me the wrong way. I don't think she's sincere at all.

Honestly, I was shocked to see the whole table set up with Chic-fil-et nuggets, fries and such.  At first glance, I was happy to see regular plates on the table.  Then I saw the food that was being served. I just knew this Georgia family was going to cook up some good food. I grew up there and we never had a table filled with Chic_fil-et.  That was just very strange for me.

I'll bet she will be a food Natzi with Josiah.  But, she is just going to have to realize that he grew up eating tater tot casserole.  And her family serves fast food at a sit down family meal. I'm sure it will all even out in the end.

Did anyone else think that Lauren's father looks a lot like JimBob?  They could almost be brothers.  And another thing, he had man boobs.  He looked like he needed a bra in a couple of scenes.

I probably shouldn't say this, but when Lauren smiles her gums show. A lot.  It really bugs me.  I've seen other people like that and I just think it's so unattractive.  It's too bad because she is kind of cute otherwise.

I noticed they looked a lot as well.  A couple of times I even did a double take.

Lauren has short teeth.  It does detract from her smile.  I've seen people like this and all I can focus on is gums.  Lauren is very pretty though and that helps.  Kendra doesn't appear to have an upper lip, it's soooooooooo thin!  When she smiles, her upper lip disappears.  I zero in on that every time  and it's so unfair of me to do that with people that have, IMO, facial features that tend to stand out.

Lately I'm on this thing about asymmetrical faces.  Ever since I noticed that one side of my face higher than the other, I've started looking for that in everybody else.  Jeremy (whom I just love) has a face that's really asymmetrical.  I wish I hadn't noticed it in my own face.  But one day when I put my glasses down (unfolded) and noticed how one side was up higher than the other but still fit my face perfectly...well the rest is history! LOL

I've read studies that show that we are automatically attracted to asymmetrical faces.  Figures.  The left side of my face is slightly higher than the right.  Not noticeable, but I think that is why we have a "good side" for photos.  Interesting!

Sweet Jesus..Joy is huge!! And home births are soooo relaxing, huh Joy? Those crazy emergent trips to the hospital for emergency c-sections and hemorrhaging are totally relaxing I'm sure. Ladies...at this time may I direct your attention to your sister Jinger. Hospital birth, planned, educated herself, had an epidural.

And someone needs to educate these women on 9lb + babies. I never heard of birthweight being hereditary among sisters. Yes hereditary from/with same woman&man.

Something jessa-jill-joy are or are not doing. I suspect diet and lack of exercise during the duration.

Did the digger daughter-in-laws have 9-pounders

I thought it was symmetrical faces which were supposed  to be the most "beautiful". Or maybe it's that while symmetry makes a face more perfect, there's something about the quirkier faces which attracts us. I know that's true for me.

Gummy smiles don't bother me in the least. I'm actually most turned off by smiles with tall teeth, especially when they extend all the way back to the second molars. and most especially when the smile is sort of squared off (think Arnold Schwartzeneger and Willem Dafoe). I am more attracted to narrow bites with a bit of a crooky tooth here or there, and find chicklet teeth with gummy smiles kind of endearing.

Jessa is a manipulative liar.

Yup. I'd wager Jessa knows full well what went on in that house vis a vis parenting but figures Jesus forgives a white lie in the name of maintaining the brand. She's also aware of public/mainstream perception of their parenting techniques for the most part and knows people don't find it acceptable for kids to be changing their siblings' diapers while their parents are doing shit-all.

The producers have also inadvertently shown us via these juxtaposed talking heads that Jessa's narratives aren't to be trusted as far as truthfulness is concerned.

Well the Duggar sisters are all biologically full siblings, so them having a tendency for xyz genetic trait among all of them makes sense.

Yes of course who they partner with matters regarding factors related to their off spring, but noticing a trend among the sisters doesn’t surprise me, which of course can contribute to the size of their babies. A couple that has a genetic tenancy towards large babies got those traits from somewhere (which their siblings may share).

The producers asked Lauren's brothers if they knew what engaged meant.  They did not.

Josiah then said he would be like their new older brother.

Lauren said yeah with a 21 Year age difference

The last part I speculated because that is kinda normal in Josiah's family.  Isn't Josh at least 20 or 21 years older than Josie?

You're right, it's symmetrical faces that are supposed to be most attractive.  (Duh)  I think Jennifer Aniston has a symmetrical face.

It's funny how certain features can either be an attraction or a turn-off.

Yes. if I recall correctly there was a study which said babies became happier and more animated when looking at pictures of grownups with symmetrical faces.  I myself tend not to notice, but I had a roommate who claimed that a particular actress’s ‘lips didn’t line up’, and after that it was all I could see.

It was obvious to me that Jinger has developed real relationships with Luis and his wife.  I think she was just overwhelmed with watching 3 kids under 5, not her own, on camera. She didn’t feel she could discipline them,  for one thing.  Plus, she’s lived in Texas without all the lost girls/neices/nephews for a year.  Enjoying the peace and quiet. Josie being the youngest lost girl is older than Luis’s oldest. We saw at the photography session that Jinger didn’t see disciplining the lost girls as her job. So I don’t think Jinger is quite as experienced with child care as Jeremy thinks.

Does anyone remember back on the original show when one of the J'Slaves (Jill, I think?) praised Boob for looking after the little kids because "they're not usually his jurisdiction"? So we're supposed to believe he was neck deep in dirty diapers? Liar liar, pants on fire, Jessa...

Or lifting Josie up a few years ago when she pooped her pants and I think it was Jinger and maybe Jana were told to take care of this?  A normal dad would have handled it.

Does this food place have some sort of arrangement with the Duggar's?  Some under the radar sponsorship?  It is always on the show and I am sure there are more food places than that in that state.  Also, real adults generally don't consume so many chicken nuggets.  Their faces all show the results of WAY too much fried food.

Is that Austin? Every time I hear the name Austin I think of the one Blake Shelton song.

If my husband game in the hospital room looking like that, my MIL would have slap him along side the head, tell him to take the hat off, and either burn the hat or throw it in the garbage.

So, long time lurker but this is my first post.

I honestly don't really understand the love regarding the Jing/Jer hospital birth. The midwife was the same type of lame midwife as Jilly (not a certified nurse midwife, but an LM, CPM), and the midwife/birthing center/hospital are OVER TWO HOURS AWAY from where Jing/Jer live! Closer to 2 1/2 hrs. Laredo isn't that small folks - there are about 250,000 people and two good hospitals. And a TON of OB/GYNs. Seriously. If there is one thing people in Laredo do is have babies. Now while there is some medical care people do drive to San Antonio for (for example, Laredo didn't have a retina specialist until a couple of years ago. Most people would drive to San Antonio for care unless they were unable, and the specialist would come down from SA once a month). Some friends have had to go for cancer surgery (not treatment, but the surgery itself) depending on the type. But really, it's really, really irresponsible to select San Antonio for OB care if you live in Laredo. That's a heck of a lot of long car trips towards the end of the pregnancy. I am 100% sure the induction was planned because they live so far away.

Fun fact - there are only ever about 2-3 midwives in Laredo at a given time and they are hard to find, because it was found in the 80's and 90's that midwives were falsifying birth certificates stating births occurred in Laredo when really they had occurred in Nuevo Laredo (Mexico). It was a huge deal, there were federal cases, and there are still people who can't get a passport because their birth certificates are permanently questioned by the federal government.

the way she says "Oh 'Siah!" gives me the creeps.  I can't put my finger on the precise reason, but its like she's acting like Church Elder, all calm and sage and knowing, and she's how old???  Maybe because she's determined to have her own pet name for Josiah/Si.  Maybe its the breathy whispery intimate way she says Siah.  Ick.

And all of these people are as boring AF.  I think I keep watching because I know one day someone's gonna crack and go full-on normal person.  I want to see that when it happens.

Me, too! She has this breathy sigh every time she says it and she always greets him by his nickname when she sees him. My husband and I are Midwestern by birth and we rarely use each other's names. I suppose it is easier in a household of two (humans, plus three cars) than it is with lots of people.

Seeing Jeremy put an entire piece of pizza in his mouth at one time made me gag sympathetically. Gross, though he does seem to enjoy being with the kids, which bodes well.

This episode was shot during Jinger's first trimester, right? I wondered if she was just feeling crappy. She seemed low-energy.

I think Jinger still has the same "these setups are stupid" mindset she always had.

Plus I sometimes think Jinger just isn't a kid person.  She's likes them okay just not enough to bother with them.

As with Jessa, however, this may not apply to her own kids.

During the exercise around the gym segment, Joy said she couldn't find any clothes that fit.  How about you go to Walmart and buy another shirt.

I saw Giddyup’s crib at Target.  I’m not sure why Joy didn’t pick up a few Liz Lange, or whoever the designer is, tops while she was there.  Target has cute and affordable maternity clothes, and they tend to be near CFAs.

I was thinking the same, plus she has no real relationship or bond with Luis' kids. She's probably only met them a handful of times and considering they were poorly behaved it's no wonder she couldn't fake any enthusiasm. When she chucked that piece of pizza onto the plate, she reminded me of Jessa. I actually loved the barely conealed hostility. It's so much more fun than the "keep sweet" countenance they were forced to maintain for so many years.

The Duggars called him 'Siah when he was little and some of them probably still do. Remember the infamous moment when Michelle announced her umpteenth pregnancy and Josiah got upset and ran off-camera, practically in tears, then Jim Bob followed and angrily dragged him back by the scruff of his neck? As he started to run off, one of his older sisters (probably Jana) called out "No, 'Siah!"

When Michelle announced another pregnancy after the birth of Josie, Josiah was laughing and excited.  He ran off to use the phone.  Jim Bob twisted his arm to make him turn loose of the phone and pulled him back to the group. That's where the tears came from and Josiah was holding his arm in pain.  The whole scene was caught on camera. You can view it on the clip below, starting about 8 minutes in.

must be a new thing with this crowd.. if you don't have the birth at home.. drive oodles away to have a baby.... Are they shame to use the medical facilities in town ? Mrs. Swanson goes to GA... Jinger goes 150 +/- miles - don't think there is an insurance angle for that decision..
