The timeline was awfully wonky this week. I wonder if Cate is on her own now.She clearly was not happy about that. 

I like the house though. I did my master in that blue too. Of course I added a touch a fairy dust to make it glitter;) I also used light blue in our lower kitchen and living room for my Dad. It really brightened up that level.

@FairyDusted, I love this blue! What brand and name did you use?  I'd love to have an idea of what this blue is called and I'd love it in either my master bath or bedroom. 

I think Tyler's sister was originally looking at choosing adoption through Bethany Christian Services (probably at Kim's nudging), but ended up not going through with it (and that's how Tyler knew about Bethany to begin with).  I guess with Amber Baltierra's kid(s) in her home already (and probably being supported by her paycheck), Kim probably thought she really didn't have the space/time/money to take on another child (and its mother) moving into her house.  It was a sucky situation for Cate, I'm sure, to see Kim heavily encouraging placing her grandchild Cate was carrying for adoption while Kim's grandchildren from her daughter lived in Kim's house.  If I was Cate, I'd probably have felt some kind of way about that for sure.  Aside from Kim not thinking that Cate was good enough for her precious son, she probably couldn't really take on feeding/housing more people on her paycheck, though....so I get the practicalities that were going on there.  It still sucked, though.  (Of course, Carly won out in the end.  She could easily have been in a living situation like Tyler's niece and nephew were at Tyler's rental-property-turned-crack-house has Cate not placed her and raised her under April's roof.)

I co-sign this post.  I'm not even knocking Tyler for it, I know overseeing renovations and picking stuff out is still a chore.  But methinks he's taking credit by omission for a lot that he probably didn't do.

@MyPeopleAreNordic I used a baby blue in the master with a glitter glaze in my bedroom. In my Dads area I used a sky blue on the walls and did denim trim and doors  to go with the denim couches. He put in light oak cabinets in his kitchen and it looks good. I used two shades of blue/ gray carpet in those areas to tie it in. The rest of the floors are hardwood and tile. I only used carpet in the main floor in the bedrooms. Next time I go downstairs I will get the names of the paint.

I think that's part of Cate's desperate need to cling to Tyler for dear life...show of hands of anybody who thinks if Tyler & Catelynn never knew each other & randomly ran into each other at a bar or something, that Tyler would be going home with Cate? Granted, if they had never known each other & the show hadn't come along, Catelynn might have actually been a productive human being & not turned into the slothy member of the B-52s she currently is.

Catelynn is still bashing Farrah on her Instagram. She posted disappointment over Farrah not doing some wrestling/publicity stunt/boxing match thing. Posts like this make me question why she should be seen as a mental heath advocate- girl is so petty.

I saw an article on Starcasm about Amber's (Tyler's sister) husband getting her cousin pregnant while she was in rehab. Amber seems to be taking the news well. I'd almost prefer if they covered Amber instead of Caitlynn on the show.

See, I also think Tyler is kind of the last relic of when Cate was happy with herself (relatively). She was an adorable teen and healthily slim. She met Tyler as a child at 12 or 13 when the hormones were first kicking in. First love is a hell of a drug. I'm sure the infatuation stage was compounded by their survival mentality of us against the world/Bonnie & Clyde to cling to each other to avoid the chaos of their respective home life. I'd wager there was lots of drinking, smoking, cutting class, sneaking off to have sex, fooling around in cars, and other typical teen stuff that gives you the adrenaline rush of rebellion. They probably had their first kiss with each other and definitely lost their virginity together. All that stuff is bound to make you believe that you'll be together forever, especially through the TRAUMA (drink!). In all seriousness though, didn't Tyler have to intervene and stop April from choking Cate out or something when they were like 14? We joke, but shit sounds very dark at times. It's not surprising that Cate's adolescent emotional attachment to Tyler morphed into believing she needs him to feel safe and sit on her ass "function" as an adult.

The Carly issue fractured their relationship, but it's the show that's really broken Cate in particular over time. She was thrust into this weird vortex where she didn't have to do anything after high school. No college, no trade school, no job. Which means she made no new friends and became more isolated the older she got. She doesn't interact with anyone outside of Tyler and she's been paid to do nothing but stew in negative emotions and hurt feelings for a decade. Combining that with zero work or structure is a recipe to be mentally unwell. It has to sting that the person who was the sole bright spot in your formative years now actively resents you, especially when you convince yourself that the continuous source of damage (doing jack shit, empty materialism, depression and feeding off your own misery) is totally out of your control. And the kid stuff that gave you an adrenaline rush as a teen naturally becomes boring/immature/stale in adulthood. I'm being 100% sincere when I say they should look into living or working on a weed farm, because that's the only passion that they share or have any interest in.

Which isn't a knock on teen love - my cousin has been with her husband since they were 13 and they're now in their late 30s with 3 kids. But they also both have jobs, hobbies, loving families, and an active social life. tl;dr Cate romanticizes their pre-Carly years and completely ignores Tyler with empty therapy speak. She hasn't had structure since her teen years, and so she's stuck reliving middle/early high school. She understandably misses when Tyler was crazy about her, but refuses to acknowledge that 1) they've changed over the course of half their lives and 2)  Tyler is her husband, not her emotional support animal.

Maybe Kim is similar to Babs. Who wants to be in their 60s raising a bunch of kids? I think Kim hates Cate. I think it's different when it's your own daughter vs someone else's daughter. Kim should've just force Tyler to break it off as soon as they placed Carly for adoption.

I don’t think Kim is a bad person without an ounce of empathy. I think she very reasonably and understandably didn’t want to raise another child BUT she also knew Catelynn was just a young girl who got a really bad hand in life AND Tyler loved her. I also believe Catelynn loved Tyler. Kim showed her a great deal of kindness because of that. Who wouldn’t feel sorry for Catelynn in that position?!!

That doesn’t mean Kim wanted to raise another baby from INFANCY. Helping a teenaged Catelynn was a different situation.

I think any month now, they'll announce a divorce. They are only in their mid 20's and they seem so miserable with each other . No way that's lasting forever. I give them credit for making it last this long. Staying together from 12,13 till almost 30 is definitely not an easy task and from what I can remember, they never publicly broke up for any amount of time... but I think the ship has sailed. Tyler is so checked out that it's hard to watch and I think the show is slowly showing us that they're donezo before they announce the big split. Not sure why he got her pregnant again but again, these people just love the thought of being pregnant without thinking past the 9 months.

I don't think the show stifled her growth but moreso staved off her eventual descent into drug or alcohol addiction.

Exactly, and that's what's so infuriating and hard to watch about her. Speaking as a younger millennial myself, the problem with millennials and especially Gen Z kids is that they adopt mental illness as a persona rather than a single aspect of their identity that can be treated and managed. They self-diagnose or (like the girls) find doctors who will slap a new diagnosis on them every six months so that suddenly every negative emotion or toxic behavior or denial of life responsibilities is due to their mental illness. And they can't ever be accountable because they're mentally ill! Cate wants the drama of her 29 weekly therapy sessions and a new spa retreat every 2 months and having everyone constantly worry about her because it keeps the focus on her without her actually have to do anything or face the pressure to figure out what she wants to do with her life (with the bonus of guilting Tyler into staying). If she's the Depressed Girl with Anxiety, she never has to accomplish or become anything else.

On the flip side, I think people don't actually realize that the ultimate issue with fixating on your mental illness and embracing it as your permanent personality is that it just exacerbates all your symptoms and makes you more mentally unwell. Doing nothing because you're anxious gives you more anxiety because you're thinking about your anxiety and you're not doing anything, giving you more time to think about your anxiety. Deciding you can't get out of bed for a week because you're depressed makes you more depressed because you're stuck in bed with nothing to do besides think about your depression.

Cate is truly a testament to the limits of that mentality though in that no amount of treatment is going to make you better if you've decided you don't want to get better. I think she's convinced herself that Tyler feels obligated to be her caregiver (less and less true by the day) and would leave as soon as she becomes functional. I also think that she frankly just flat out doesn't enjoy Nova and needs to come up with excuses to avoid her and not spend time with her. She throws gobs of money at every single treatment facility and therapist Arizona has to offer and somehow manages to come back more miserable each time. In her mind, I think that she believes that if she can prove she is mentally ill enough, everyone in her life will stop expecting anything of her and just put up with it or she can gaslight them into doing whatever she wants. She's currently panicking because it's not working. Rather than being a doting husband who jumps at the chance to wait on her hand and foot and eagerly whisk Nova away for child free weekends of "self care" (which is all Cate ever does), Tyler can barely stand to look at her and obviously isn't hiding his passive aggression anymore. Kim is basically egging on their breakup. In her warped attempt to mourn Carly/force Tyler to pay attention to her/get attention, Cate has single-handedly ruined her life...which, of course, will lead to more depression and endless excuses. April will raise that poor child if they split.

I agree with almost all of your post besides this point. If they spilt I think Tyler will raise both girls. Catelynn will likely become a slightly better Amber (no prison record etc), she will show up for the birthday parties, Halloween trick or treating etc but won’t be much of a parent. I do not think Tyler would let April raise his children and he’s shown that he’s more than capable than being their primary caregiver (as he should be he’s their father). He would likely meet someone else in a few years which would drive Cate further into the deep end.

I believe Tyler does love and care for Catelynn but at this point she’s not a partner she’s a DEPENDENT, to be cared for like the kids. Yes I believe that married people promise for sickness and in health, better or worse etc but when someone refuses to actually get better and be an adult in the relationship I don’t blame the other partner for wanting out.

I think Tyler's just tired of being the caretaker of so many people that keep checking themselves into spas while he holds down the fort!

Cate left twice and he became Mr Mom.  His dad is like a revolving door going in and out of rehab and leaving his job of restoring the octagon house to Tyler.  Sister gets to live in his first home and she and her druggie Friends trash that place.  Tyler again left to clean up that mess.

Now he gets a little and Cates pregnant!

And we wonder why he wants a month?  I'd like to see him and his mom take his daughter and move away from all this pain and heartache!  Run Tyler escape this messy life.  But honestly nobody's going anywhere because of the $$$$.  How sad.

Exactly. Loving a partner in sickness and in health doesn't mean they get to just say, "This is how I am, deal with it." It's not like Cate was in an accident and rendered paralyzed. There are things she can do to make herself better. But she doesn't. It would be so frustrating. My mom spent 16 years married to my bi-polar step-dad, who refused to stick to a treatment plan, before she finally had enough and got out. Best decision she ever made. 

I think Tyler loves Cate. But I don't think he's been IN LOVE with her for many many years. It's more like a brother-sister relationship, IMO.

True fact... when my mom was pregnant with me my father was adamant I be named “Sara Lee” in honor of his grandma who raised him. My mother’s response (word for word, according to her) was “fuck no. She will not spend her whole life having people pinch her ass while saying shit like ‘just checking yer buns, Sara Lee!”
