That's a good point and another problem with making Reign a season-long villain. The character development of Sam mostly amounted to "she's a Mom." That's about it. The character development for Reign was basically nil. She's just evil, period. That's fine for a villain of the week (although even then you want them to have a little more depth to understand where they're coming from) but ultimately, Reign has turned out to be little more than an inhuman tool to be used by the evil Kryptonian trio of women. She might as well be a robot or a drone - there's just no there there. We never got a sense that she had any kind of self-determination, she's just sort of programmed to destroy.

I thought Reign’s original motivation was “bringing justice”. She was going after criminals, but instead of subduing them and turning them over to the cops, she’d just kill them. That’s why the first time they tried to capture Reign, Alex and J’onn pretended to rob a bank- they knew Reign would show up to take out the bank robbers.

Somewhere along the way (post AK’s firing?) that thread was dropped and Reign just became one of three tools created to do a Kryptonian cult’s dirty work.

This whole season has been strange.

So, what has tonight taught us?  That there is quite a downside to "nonlethal" tactics and sometimes Kryptonite can be a good tool!  Well, granted, the Kryptonite Alex was using seemed to be complete weak sauce, but it did slow them down at least a little bit.

What would be the point of 'lethal' weapons in this scenario? Three pissed off Kryptonians were invading the DEO. If they had howitzers it wouldn't have done any good. Only kryptonite could have stopped them. Well, normal kryptonite. Alex managed to kill Alura with a kryptonite sword. I don't know how exactly shooting one in the back only managed to slow her down, and she must have been quite flexible to reach around and dig it out.

This does go a long way against Kara's argument however. The outrage she and Clark have about anyone having kryptonite. Then this happens. Guys, THIS is the reason you have it. Yes, it does need to be kept secure so not just anyone can get to it, but considering there has been a hostile Kryptonian enemy several times I don't think you have a leg to stand on with the whole "It should not exist!" diatribe.

I would also like to make my vote known for the "Wait, what?" category of evil plans. As far as I can tell the only real difference between Earth and Krypton is the color of the sun it orbits. They didn't appear to have a dramatically different atmosphere or anything, unlike in Man of Steel, and even then they were able to adapt pretty quickly. I just don't get the point. Getting rid of the human infestation I can understand, but they don't need to waste time terraforming for that, Reign could just enjoy herself and slaughter every last human with her bare hands and heat vision. It seems like the whole thing was just an excuse for why Reign doesn't just swoop in and beat every in the DEO to death, Kara and Mon-El included, in a few minutes.

Alex killed Astra, not Alura.  Alura is still very much alive, as this story arc has made abundantly clear.

This show is the perfect cautionary tale that if you sprinkle enough mysticism bullshit around, your episodes become a series of meaningless exposition with characters intoning random words very seriously.

In the end, what you produce is basically 45 minutes of nonsense and funny costumes.

Am I the only one who thinks the hologram explosion scene was incredibly confusing?  Kara yells it's a trap, the bomb immediately goes off, and somehow both she and Mon-El are standing there and looking perfectly fine.

IT'S A TRAP, RUN!

Explosion!

Everybody standing exactly where they are, completely unscathed except for the minor character whose name I don't remember. I actually laughed. It was so bad. Not "my husband just turned into a baby fox" bad (don't ask) but still pretty bad.

Hi hot Asian guy who has apparently had this off screen antipathy for Winn! Bye hot Asian guy. It's also bullshit that they give him just enough backstory to make you imagine how he would fit in at the DEO.

Wasn't there one scene at some point where Hot Asian Guy and his Dislike of Winn were already established?
