Well,I tried but after the initial few episodes reintroducing the characters, I was bored and frankly, I just don't think it was funny. The original show was successful because it was so different than other sit coms with realistic people. Now,however, there are a lot of shows that have quirky, poor or unglamorous people in them, so thus doesn't seem innovative. Won't do another season and it has nothing to do with politics.

It was also great to get a callback to the Conners' love for Halloween, and Roseanne pranking Harris was hilarious.

It would have been funnier if they didn’t use that clip in the promos.

i felt they got all the stories out of the way (except Andy and The LunchBox!) and next season we can get back to just having stories, not every episode being “a very special episode”.

I loved this episode. It was the perfect ending.

Something positive finally comes the Conner’s way. Having been thru a major flood, their reaction is spot on. It’s a relief that 10’s of thousands of dollars aren’t coming straight out of your pocket.

Continue to love Becky and Darlene’s relationship. I hope to see more of this next season.

Still don’t care about Harris.

Loved the throw back to Halloween episodes. Speaking of throw backs, it really caught me how similar Darlene and Roseanne really are. Roseanne struggled with writing again in seasons of old too. I really would love for them to flesh that out more for Darlene next year.

So, Mark’s playing soccer? Hope he doesn’t become sterile!

I’ve loved this show for as long as I can remember. I’m just a little too young to have enjoyed it in its hay day, but I watch reruns so often I can name episodes and quote along with them.

That being said, I’m overall happy, borderline impressed, with how this reboot went. There were some clunky moments, some very special episode feeling times and some horrible continuity, but I hope the kinks work out for a great next season.

I completely got Dan's pain in the basement, even the talk between him and Chuck. Of course I wanted Dan to go: "Who's idea was it to convince me about the prison and leave the garage? Oh that was you Chuck." Still, why the hell was no one helping him? Could have still done the frustrated scene with Dan and had at least everyone helping him. Yeah, needed it to all end on a positive note, but really? Waiting until 7 minutes to 8 pm?

It was Chuck who floated the idea, but Dan was the one who made the choice. Dan shouldn't be holding anything against Chuck.

Yet, Check knew for the first time in a long time, Dan was in a good place financially. He didn't need to float the idea, should have let Dan be.

Exactly! No one put a gun to his head and made him quit the job. I can understand why Chuck was mad at him. I did love Becky calling out Darlene on her attitude. I would not want to leave a good tip for Darlene either if she was my waitress.

So didn't last week's episode end with the suggestion that Roseanne was addicted to pills and her problem was getting worse?  I mean, they showed that she had a secret stash that Dan hadn't found, and she appeared to be ready to take them.  However, in this episode, none of that came up and it's like the whole issue never happened.

Not to mention all that was 20 or more years ago in the show's timeline.  I can't imagine Dan still bringing that up.

I’m glad that the episode ended on a high note because until the last few minutes, that was just plain depressing. The only major thing I would have changed was Darlene writing a blog about being a single mom in Lanford.

I always got the impression that Roseanne was hoarding the pills in the event her prescription ran out and she couldn’t afford more and maybe taking one or two extra. I didn’t think she was on the road to an opioid addiction.  I thought it was more of a statement on the expense of medicine.

I thought Dan said he was trying to hurry up and get the money so Roseanne would not need the pain pills and get the surgery she needs.

She had multiple prescription bottles from third parties, and was hiding pills around the house without her husband's knowledge.  That's not hoarding pills.  That's someone who is looking to get as many pills as possible to feed her addiction.

I believe Dan mentioned to Chuck that she was takings medication because they couldn't afford the surgery.

I missed it last week, but I am happy (enough) that they get got a win at the end in case it wasn't renewed (assuming that everything was shot before the renewal notice came in.)  It was a decent reboot season, but as much as everyone is saying they will scale back on the politics next season, I don't see that happening.

I especially loved the dinner the family made for Roseanne at the end.

Was it cold, or has Roseanne lost her sense of smell? She shouldn't have been so surprised to see it.

Of course she didn't want her nipples moved -- she got that with her breast reduction surgery, back in the day.

My assumption is that Darlene and Becky were at work and DJ was at his home with his daughter.

Loved the comment about the misspelling of Illinois in the tweet about the state of emergency.

Liked Becky trying to explain how to get better tips.

However, it’s really not funny to see Dan and Roseanne so beaten down by life.

Not only did Roseanne not smell dinner, she never heard them prepare it. So she needs hearing aids too?

I never thought Becky would become my favourite character but she has. I find Lacy's line delivery amusing and I love Becky's interactions with Darlene. She just cracks me up.

I'm also glad the season ended on a positive note. I just wish Roseanne had more time to eat all that food, lol. It seemed almost cruel to only have seven minutes to enjoy it. Oh well.

Maybe they ordered a prepared dinner, and that's why it came in so close to the deadline.

Tried to remember whether Chuck had really been Dan's best friend all along. Maybe he's the only one still living.

Chuck was always Dan's best friend.

I was expecting Dan to have a heart attack to.  I'm glad he didn't.

Darlene and Becky are still my favorite parts of the episodes.  I also like how there is an equal back and forth between them.  Sometimes Darlene gives Becky advice, and other times Becky gives Darlene advice.  Becky's Morticia should have been followed up by Darlene calling Becky bubble butt.

Chuck and Annemarie never had their one storylines, but he was probably the most consistent friend Dan had. Their usual poker table otherwise consisted of Arnie (not gonna happen), Leon (never mentioned), and a few randoms here and there.

LOVED the Becky/Darlene scene.

Darlene: We are very different people. I am an introvert, and you ... Are an alcoholic tramp.

Becky: You're not a pleasant human being. You're going to have to flirt if hoy want to support your kids.

Darlene: I didn't even flirt to HAVE my kids!

Sometimes they overdo it with Wacky Jackie, but I loved how dorky she was trying to help DJ with the magic trick.

I wonder if they rewrote some of this episode when season two/eleven was announced.  It didn’t quite have the same tone as the previous ones.

Darlene should have been the one to overhear Dan’s speech.  It’s one thing to be a brat about a job you hate, but she doesn’t really seem to understand the hardship it’s causing her parents because she’s not contributing financially to the household.  I would have expected her to pay what she could for groceries or at least use the extra mouths to get more EBT money.

They would not have gotten that much from FEMA.  I live near Houston and know families that got a flat $400 for destroyed houses in Hurricane Harvey.  A concrete basement with a foot of water would have gotten relative pennies.  For how political the show has been, it was a weird injection.  A better storyline would have been a pipe bursting and the insurance company paying out.

Light at the end of the tunnel!

If we can't have a Halloween episode, the scene of Roseanne scaring Harris with Darlene's old Halloween costume was good enough!  Next season, I hope we get a good Halloween episode :)

Roseanne/Dan as a couple= awesome :)

I really enjoyed this episode, but damn, that scene between Dan and Chuckie was heartbreaking and depressing. Seeing two great guys struggling at this stage in their lives is tough to watch, and poor Dan, shlepping around in the water. At the very least DJ should've been over there helping Dan in the basement. Mary isn't a baby, she could've sat and watched TV at the Connors while her dad helped out.

I love the scenes between Becky and Darlene, but Lecy's acting is horrible. Her delivery is so forced and hammy. Hopefully she finds her stride next season.

The casino job is perfect fodder for the show. Sarcastic Darlene working a job where she needs to kiss ass to earn money is going to generate a lot of funny moments. Plus it's a lot like Rodbell's where there's plenty of opportunity for a large range of characters to swing through.

I'm happy they ended on a high note but dubious they would've gotten that much money out of FEMA.

Dan mentioned specifically to Chuck that Roseanne is popping pills to deal with her knee pain because she can't get her surgery. That was his justification for using illegal immigrants for his bid.

I really thought this was a good episode to end the season.

Yes, DJ should have been there. They could have still done the scene between Chuck and Dan. What really got me was they both made bad decisions and now at their age, to be where they are. Not only did they not expect it, but their decisions that were "in the now" came to haunt them later in life. Way too true to life and worked well.

Back in the day I couldn't stand Becky, but I really love her in the reboot. The character as a teenager was always a snooty brat to me. But I love adult Becky whose life hasn't gone very well.

Her relationship with Darlene is a lot more fun now too.

Well I think John Goodman just won another Emmy.

This was good. I liked the continuity with the previous episode. There is something truly poignant about how the family is struggling even now.

I loved the joke about the misspelled tweet. It was funny but didn't hit you over the head.

I agree that Harris was better in this episode. Judging by the promo, I thought she was going to go into full Debbie Gallagher mode here.

I noticed the audience laughter was hardly used in the flooding basement scene. It's kind of refreshing to have a break from that sometimes.

Roseanne isn't the type to suffer in silence. Dan's lines were pretty blunt on the matter.

What spoke even louder was that she hid her behavior (typical) and then was willing to let the kids or anyone else in the house get the blame. If it were explainable she would've explained it- instead of hiding more pills. First thing she did when Dan left was to check to make sure her other stash was still there... and that relieved sigh(!)... yeah it was portrayed as an addiction IMO.

I'm still wondering why Dan and Roseanne are now on opposite sides of their bed.

I figured switching sides of the bed is for Dan's machine. Either it keeps it out of the way so no one trips on it or it's easier to plug in over there. My parents switched sides of the bed when my dad got his dialysis machine so it would be closer to the bathroom for drainage, so it makes sense to me that Dan and Roseanne might move for a similar reason.

I was thinking this same thing. Or that red tape would not let them qualify for the FEMA money. You know how that goes with government programs - sometimes those who need it most cannot get it due to red tape.

It was a little strange, given some of Roseanne's positions, that the season ended with the Conners being rescued by money from the federal government.  But yes, I was surprised at how certain all the characters were that they would be given more than enough to assure the basement could be fixed and Roseanne could get her surgery.

rescued by the government given the roseannes political views seemed wrong to me to.

dan said he could do the job in the basement himself, thus using some of the money he got from the govt for roseannes surgery. how much do you get from fema and how would they know so soon it would be enough. we had a tornado years ago and we got fema money that did not put a dent in the needed repair amount.

Did I miss some episodes? Sandra Berhardt was making such a big deal on her radio show about returning to Roseann but I only remember seeing her in one scene a few episodes back, sitting at the kitchen table with ? Crystal and I don't remember seeing much else from her character.  Did I miss something or did they cut some of her performance out?

The adult sister relationship is awesome. These women will never be joined at the hip like Roseanne and Jackie but it is great they have each other for the tough love. It is a different type of sisterhood and it feels realistic for the characters.

The Middle ( a show that often gets compared to Roseanne and is ending) also had a basement flooding episode.

I was thinking if Chuck and Dan were born a generation earlier they would be living comparatively better with pensions that would have covered a lot of their financial issues. I remember about hearing in the seventies guys who had retired from factory jobs and working for Sears Roebuck for thirty years, getting a gold watch and enjoying their sunset years. What is funny is a lot of late Baby Boomers and Gen X did not really want this life and thought it was a waste. Little, did they know that their older years would be much harder without the financial security that a solid pension, that used to come with a good working-class job, had to offer.

I remember the episode where Roseanne quit her factory job of ten years because of her horrible boss. I remember her talking about walking away from her pension. As a kid, I did not get why that was so important. She never was able to find this type of stable employment again, until she opened her own business. Of course, the factory shut down anyway, so the point is probably moot.

I wonder if Darlene does anything to contribute to the household? Does she chip in on groceries or help do some of the chores? It annoyed me when Roseanne was screaming for help and she woke up her dead tired elderly father.

She could easily take after Dan. Since we only saw his mother, we have no clue what the rest of his family looks like but I'll just fanwank that they are all big and tall like he is.

The guy is in his 70s so its probably a combination of age and some medical issue of his own.

Because Dan was pretty much having a breakdown and Roseanne knew that if she sent them down there, he would probably go off if they did one little thing that irritated him, and things would probably be said that couldn't be taken back. I could easily see DJ calling from the top of the stairs that he was coming down to help, and Dan barking a loud "No,I've got it!" back in response.

I hate how much I have to fanwank with this new series. This was the 1st episode that felt like an old-Roseanne episode throughout it all, and I hope its a sign of a return to form next season now that Whitney Cummings is gone.

Grand dad Dan is very tall and big so it's plausible she inherited her height from his side of the family.

I hope this is the end of hearing about Roseanne's knee, I'm pretty much over that storyline. It was a bit unrealistic when Dan rescued her from falling in the bathroom because her knee gave out, then she goes to sit on the bed and folds her legs Indian style!. The ole'knee couldn't have been bothering her too much. She must have chugged a bunch of Vicodin earlier.

Yes, Harris's height doesn't bother me. Children are statistically greater of inheriting height from the father's or mother's parents' side. My nieces are all in the 5'8-5'9 range. Due to their father's heights because their mother's are pretty short. I had a friend who both had short parents, but his mother had a father who was 6'5. She was 5'5 and he ended up 6'2.

I think what I liked best from this revival was seeing the Becky/Darlene relationship. They act like sisters with different personalities would act around each other. They use sarcasm to get their advice in. That's how me and my siblings act around each other.

I don't know how much money they could expect to get from FEMA, so I thought the celebrating was a little soon. I also thought Dan was going to have a heart attack when he was in the basement. Why were none of the kids helping? Whenever my mom's basement flooded and we were there we would be down there helping her move things. There's no way we would let her do everything by herself. Darlene should've sent Harris down there she's tall and could've helped Dan.

I'm just going with Harris got her height from her grandfather. I'm the shortest of my siblings at 5'1, my sister is 5'5 and my brother is 5'11. My father's side of the family are all 6' or taller. I feel like a hobbit when we visit them.

Why wouldn’t they file a claim on their homeowner’s insurance for the the flood damage?   I know they made a joke about flood insurance but in this instance but I’m guessing they are not living in a flood zone or they would have been required to have that.

Probably because there would be a deductible to meet just like the medical insurance which I'm sure the Connors couldn't pay, and like Chicken Wing said, Homeowners doesn't cover flood so their claim would be denied. I had to have a separate policy for flood.

I am so tired of hearing I got more mouths to feed so I need to things I thought I would never have to do. The union guys Dan did not want to use may have spouses and children they need to take care of also. Chuck is married and has a son and possible grandchildren. Maybe he is still working to help them out also. Darlene is working now, so she should be paying some rent or help with the food bill and gas and heating bill at least. Posters have been saying Becky, Darlene and DJ should have been helping Dan out in the basement. Mark and Harris could have help also and help around the house. I also doubt they may be getting a lot from FEMA. We had a terrible wildfire season last summer in Montana and now dealing with flooding, and the federal government has turn down Montana's appeal for help just for the fires alone. If Chuck was smart, he would dump Dan as a partner, and go into business with someone else. I could not stand working with Darlene because of her attitude, but I could work with Becky and DJ. I wish they would do something with Jackie's hair. Roseanne looks younger and better than Jackie does.
