Well, that was an improvement over season 1, though the escorts still walk, talk and bend like alien robots. I didn't recognize Anna Friel till halfway through the ep. Love her. I like the blackmail scenario. That guy is the ultimate turd.

The actual GFE scenes in the first segment were interesting, but the political stuff was boring.  Hope they get better, because I'm a fan of Anna Friel.

Liked the second segment more.  But wow, Bria seems dumb.  Factory life clearly isn't for her, but going after a sugar daddy this soon seems like a bad idea.  I wonder if Ian is tapping her phone.  At the very least, he can track the calls Bria is making.

Same.  The guy was scum and I have no sympathy for him.

Loved the score in the episodes, especially the violins.

I like it so far.  I preferred the first half over the second.

First half:

Louisa Krause looked so much like Natasha Gregson Wagner.  Are they dealing with a presidential election?  I didn't quite grasp the politics, but they spoke of Ohio and Michigan.  I wonder what inspired Anna to start recording her client's phone conversations.  He's either arrogant or ignorant to allow someone to so obviously record him.

Second half:

Yeah, not really liking Bria.  I'm shocked she even tried to save her step-daughter, since she clearly dislikes her.  What an absolutely ridiculous set up for hiding.  She moves two hours away, and doesn't change her appearance.  She looks exactly the same, and is a black woman with a white teenaged girl, who looks exactly the same.  The US Marshall is a horrible actor.  I like the actor portraying Bria, but she has the worst boob job I've ever seen.  They were immovable rocks planted in her chest.

I forgot to comment on the second half. Didn't like Bria or the teen stepdaughter. Bria's escape and return to being an escort was boring. They should have shown why she needed the law to escape to amp up the drama.

I’m honestly not sure what to think of this show. I know they do all of these sterile, luxury environments to illustrate the sterility of the characters lives but it just all feels off, wrong somehow. I would love to watch a show about high end call girls among the power players but none of the characters feel like people. The asshole has no subtlety to him...who wouldn’t hate him? The women feel like robotic charicatures with no more humanity than their terrible client sees in them. So, what exactly am I supposed to be seeing and learning here? Because after watching the first episode I feel prurient, dirty and bored.

I didn't like either part 1 or part 2. I thought a lot of it was boring and poorly acted. Riley Keough's performance was what made S1 for me and I had high hopes for S2. So far I'm not encouraged.

Christine was an amazing study of narcissistic personality disorder.  I questioned Riley's acting abilities until the panic attack episode.  I just re-watched season one in preparation for this season, and I liked it.  It did fall apart, IMO, once the law firm intrigue was wrapped up.

It's amazing how this show is so good at making sex scenes completely unappealing.

I may start fast forwarding through Bria's half.  I can't stand her and really wouldn't mind if she meets the end of what I think is the movie version's character.   They continue to make repugnant sex scenes - blow job on the marshal's finger - and she was about to fuck him on the couch within hearing and seeing of her step-daughter.   They need to soften her up in a better way.  Her tears meant nothing to me.

This show is a WTF...

I find it compelling enough to watch but WTF

Why would Anna agree to go with Erica for free?  Her job is to charge for these services. Its the girlfriend experience if you aren't charging then its your actual GF

Also would the GOP accept an openly gay couple at their high end whatever it was...

Also why were they so obvious about recording Erica, that was the worst sting operation I have ever seen...

Bria's story is an eye sore.  Also the guy she is seeing for money is a like a cult leader...

The Bria story is boring and I'm not sure I'll continue with it.  However, I really like Erica and Anna.  Season 1 was the same tone, well at least the Erica and Anna story.  There is always white nose, like the air conditioner is running in the background.  It's mesmerizing.

Second episode:

I thought it odd too that at the private get-together with the financial people, they didn't bat an eye with the lesbian thing.  I don't think it's strictly a Republican thing.  If Erica worked for the Dems, she would be courting the finance guys too.

So it is the GFE about escorts and not GFs.  I think where they are going, is that Anna may be falling for Erica.  Why?  I have no idea.  Maybe she likes the power.  Erica is so guarded and doesn't have much of a personality.

The meeting Anna had with her friend looked out of place until I thought, it's a way of showing that Erica was beginning to have an effect on Anna.  We are to infer that Anna was thinking of Erica with that guy who "made her orgasm three times."

I don't think this will end well for these two.  Who is going to get hurt by that dude who hired the investigators is the assistant.

Oh, it's coming.  Bria is an idiot.  She signed up to be in the witness protection program yet is doing everything she can to help her husband find her, aside from personally calling him to tell her where she is.   I mean, giving the kid a computer?  Haha.

It's all pretty terrible. Did all of the decent writers leave after S1? Having seen episodes 5 and 6, I can't believe this got the green light.

No, they're exactly the same.  First season, the writers and alternating directors were Amy Seimetz (Christine's sister in season One) and Lodge Kerrigan.  This season, Amy is the writer and director for the Bria story, and Lodge is writer/director of Erica and Anna.  Maybe the problem was splitting them and giving them sole responsibility for a story.  In the first season, all but one of the episodes was written as a collaboration between the two.

Of course it is not going to end well for either Erica, Anna or Bria.

Anna is fooling herself into the belief that Erica truly cares about her. I think Erica likes being the one in control and in charge of her personal relationships. Yet, she doesn't think about how her professional career could be destroyed if anyone she burned finds out about Anna?

I don't find Bria's story dull, because she is a character that is so self-destructive, that she literally doesn't have any concern that Paul is obsessed with being with her, due to her having a kid in her life. No alarms went off for her, when she overheard his ex going off on him, about just abandoning her and her kid after the kid got attached to him being in their lives?!

Another WTF episode...

Erica and Anna legit have the most boring relationship ever...sex aside...that is some banal conversation...they like have nothing to say to one another...and I don't understand what the guys plan to get out of Erica...she used to leverage to get their donor list...but they don't actually need anything from her...so maybe they just want the tape back

I don't get the Bria story...aren't the FBI going to wonder where she got the extra money from....

I'm trying to figure out Erica and Anna's relationship. Is Anna just playing Erica? At first I thought she really liked her, but she appears to treat her just like one of her johns. It made me start to wonder if maybe she is just trying to get dirt on her too.

And Erica said she wanted to see Anna perform oral sex on one of her johns, but when she watched the video of it, she did not seem very turned on. Were we supposed to think that she was jealous? Or something else?

It seems Anna treats Erica like a client by mimicking the phrases she uses with her clients.  Other times, Anna is honest with her, like when she told her real name and why she is an escort.  It's little dance they play.  Erica has to know Anna is not completely real because Anna said almost the exact same thing to Erica as she did to the guy in the video she showed Erica.

Also, I'm not sure how much info the other guy plans to get out of Erica's secretary.  The secretary didn't know who Dariya was when she introduced her at the office.  If she doesn't know something as simple as that, I wonder what she can provide.  Maybe the name of the finance guy she met with.  He said he plans to introduce Erica her to others.

Erica gets a suspicious call from a representative of a secretive potential donor.  Anna subjugates herself to Erica's desires and makes a startling decision to solidify their personal relationship.

With an impending trial date, Ian attempts to reign in Bria by stepping up his surveillance of her.

This show puzzles me...I don't get it...it's not entertaining...you can't route for anyone...and the stories are not particularly compelling and they don't make any sense...

Erica/Anna...

Anna is supposed to be a professional...I am finding it hard to believe...that she meets this woman and money goes out the window...

Also now she uses her client to get pregnant...and wants to have the baby with Erica...who treats her like crap and as far as I can tell has NO feelings for her...

Erica...I mean does this woman regularly skirt the law to do business...I find it weird that she blackmails someone for a donor list and then basically engages in the same reckless behavior...does it not occur to her she could be blackmailed....?????

Bria

I can't tell if Bria is dumb or so checked out that she is barely cognizant because WTF

The FBI guys is of course playing her but as he creepily watches her...he clearly is also being played...but I just don't care

I originally thought Erica and Bria were the idiots, but I was wrong.  Most of the characters are idiots.

Why is Anna having a baby for a woman she just met, who apparently treats her poorly?  Erica isn't much better than one of Anna's clients.  And does Anna know anything about the guy who's getting her pregnant?  She really is a moron.

This was the first episode I felt bad for Bria, on two occasions.  For one, that degrading conversation with Paul about privilege.  Hearing a WOC downplay her own suffering to a wealthy White man was painful to hear.  Especially when you consider their current stations in life.

And her having sex with Ian.  I get that Bria hasn't made his job easy.  But like Paul, there's a power dynamic between Bria and Ian, and it tips on his side, not hers.

I'm not liking this at all.  After hearing the positive reviews of the first season, this is really disappointing.  Boring plotlines, poorly written characters, and the sex is cold and clinical.  For people who supposedly care about each other like Anna and Erica, it doesn't work.

Whoever said in another thread that the Anna/Erica show is written like porn was 100% right. At this point the sex scenes are so graphic and repetitive that I just fast forward through them. The dialogue is terrible and the delivery is worse. I don't even fully understand the banal political subplot, nor do I care. It exists to serve as a break for viewers between the sex scenes.

The Bria episodes are just...

I don't understand what happened to this show. It feels like True Detective all over again: S1 was brilliant and engrossing, S2 is shockingly bad.

So they aired both story lines in a different order this time.  Personally, I find the Bria story line unwatchable drek.  Haven't watched it in the last two weeks.

As for the Erica and Anna story line, neither character is the least bit likable.

Erica seems to enjoy Anna's humiliating sex acts.  What won't Erica ask Anna to do?  What act won't Anna perform in order to please Erica?

I don't think I want to see Anna bring a baby into the emotionally destructive relationship she has with Erica.

You’re welcome and agreed Erica enjoys humiliating sex acts...I am guessing she was like that with her ex as well.

Bu Anna seems weird to me like OFF

Thanks for starting this thread!

I didn't think boring and batshit crazy could go hand in hand, but this show proves me wrong.

What kind of craziness was Anna doing with the apple?  The closed captioning actually read "chomping".  Guess there was no other word for it.

No idea what's going on with Bria.  That whole plotline was manic, and she seems to be operating on only two brain cells.  I wonder if Ian is working with the ex-husband, or he's just trying to cover his ass, since he's been screwing his charge.

I would have felt sorry for Kayla's boyfriend for getting caught up in that mess, had he not been total scum.  Speaking of which, great parenting, Bria.  Leave your 13 year old stepdaughter with a pervy 18 year old.  But hey, at least she got the car!

Paul has another woman in the wings?  I am shocked!  Shocked, I tell you!

This show makes me go WTF. I did not understand why Bria started freaking out. And why does she want the cops called on her? Isn't she working with the cops? Can't she just call them herself? Paul is a creep but he is wise to be done with Bria and her drama. I'd be trying to ghost her as well.

The only good thing I can say about the Erica and Anna story is at least it is a twist on the usual "client in love with their prostitute" storyline. I don't think I have ever seen a prostitute who is obsessed with their client. If this show was better done, I might have enjoyed this twist on the usual storyline if the characters had been more relatable and i could understand their motivations. I just have never believed a word either one of them has ever said.

This show is a total WTF for me as well.    Bria’s story is interesting to me because I don’t know what the hell is going on with her.   And her accent is awesome.   I’m also drawn in by Harmony Korine because I remember reading about him a thousand years ago in Sassy Magazine.   The whole story is crazy - Ian, the machine with lights ...

I consistently fall asleep during Erica and Anna’s storyline.   I’ve rewatched and caught up but still find it boring.   I didn’t believe Anna was for real the entire time.  I assumed she was just playing Erica in some way, so her whole going crazy, pigging out on an apple, getting pregnant business was just ridiculous.

I'm so confused about Anna and Erica. Anna is a professional, seems to have many clients yet falls madly in love with Erica who seems devoid of any personality. Actually, all of them seem devoid of personality. Everything in their homes and offices is just so barren. I don't get how Anna went from escort to stage 5 clinger getting herself pregnant so her and Erica can have a family. I am interested to see where it goes from here. Does Anna go full on crazy and set out to destroy Erica?

Bria's story:  It's gotten a bit more interesting, but I can't say I'm sure of what's going on.  Was Bria really frightened of Ian?  If so, why did she keep enticing him to run away with her?  Did Bria really have a vested interest in keeping Kayla because she was the guardian of her finances?  If so, why didn't they question Bria's motives towards Kayla before now?  And now that we know that Bria was simply the mistress of Kayla's father, why did they insist on them staying together, and referring to Bria as Kayla's mother?  She wasn't even a step-mother.  And now there's a question about Bria testifying against the big baddy due to co-sanguinity?  First of all, he only declared that to hide his finances through Bria, and secondly, there's no protection under the law from testifying against blood relatives.  Maybe he should have married her.

Two things caught my interest:

The magical bag that when placed over Bria's head, turned wet kinky curls into lovely dry, flat ironed, curled hair.

When the lady in the bathroom pulled down her pants and sat on the toilet, her pant legs rode up higher.  How do they get such small details wrong?

Anna and Erica:  I don't understand why Anna wanted to meet with Darya, or why Darya agreed to meet with her.  I don't know about other women, but I've yet to get drunk off my ass, strip down to my underwear, and lounge on the couch with legs spread.  Looks like she would have gotten a little cold chilling out in that manner.

I know that the show's environment is deliberately dark and sterile, but it's so glaringly ridiculous in Erica's office.  Who in the DC area would rent an office three times the size of what they needed?  And what office would function properly with simply a laptop and phone?  That gigantic room off of the two offices is laughably bare, with several large coils of wire.  It looks like they've been robbed.  And in this bare room, for some reason there's a large TV mounted on the wall.  I've seen better sets in high school plays.

I really don't care for the directing style of filming from a great distance.  They've done it multiple times, and it was really distracting last episode when Erica was breaking up with Anna, and we really couldn't see their expressions well.

The Darya character is utterly repulsive to me.  She's stiff with a rather flat affect.  She reminds me a little of Lurch from Adam's Family.  They've shown nothing to explain Erica's obsession with her.

My guess is Erica's obsession with Darya...is here ability to draw her in and then basically cast her off...some people (screwed up people) like this.  I agree she is repulsive and that is saying something on this show.

This really bothers me as well. All of their homes are the same way, no pictures on the walls, nothing on the tables or coffee tables. It's all so barren, it doesn't even feel like real people live there.

I don't get why Anna wanted to go to Darya's place. I'm trying to figure out her endgame.
