I saw the disappointment on Libby’s face when she learned his age.  There was a touch of sadness, just s touch.  She had probably been fantasizing about a relationship when home.

I call that her "Mrs Robinson in the The Graduate" moment. Six years seems like such a chasm at that age.

Good.  The thought of what would happen to a baby on reduced food and filth.............

That said, I don't think I've ever known a woman to joke about being pregnant.

Haven't you heard of the "food baby" joke?  I hear young women saying that all the time (stepdaughter and her friends) when they're bloated from eating too much.

Honestly.  Like is he still in high school?  Versus her being out of college and in the working world.  That's a huge chasm.

Nope.  But I'm old, like remember Elizabeth II's coronation old.  Thank you for that because my nieces didn't even talk 'food baby' through any of their six pregnancies.  But their children are going to college aged.  (Old age isn't for sissies.)

Michael is out of high school and working in California.  His Mom has been a good interview on Knoxville TN TV stations.  Again, I'm old, but there weren't many high school seniors with his self assurance and mature looks back in my day.

Never heard the food baby joke. Did not know it was a thing.

I do think there is a maturity difference between 23 and 18, at least for most folks. There is a real difference between recently graduated from high school and probably been working for 5 years or been to college and are now working. I do think the five year gap means a lot less when you get to your 30's and people have been out working for a while. Then again, I am 5 years older then my husband so I might be a bit biased. (grins)

Michael strikes me as a pretty put together teenager. He has been working as a model and seems pretty put together. All that matters is that Libby and Michael are happy. Sometimes different ages and life experiences make for a stronger relationship. But he is 18 and she is 23. They are both young and figuring out this whole life thing so who knows where their relationship will go.

I've heard "food baby".

Michael graduated in 2016 and played Survivor the following spring, so he had about a year of post high-school life, including modeling and the r.e. thing, under his belt.  Not that that's a ton but he wasn't missing his prom out there on the island.

I don't see much of a chasm between Michael and Libby. They seem like they're in very similar places in their lives despite the age difference. And when he's 30 and she's 36 it's like who cares. They may not last that long, but still!

I was waiting for Michael and Libby to start arguing about which one is actually called Schmoopy.

Totally agree — I got the biggest kick out of Amanda at Ponderosa!  She’s got my kind of humor.  Who knew?  Michael and she are amazingly comfortable with each other, such good friends.

You could see the very slight change of expression and sadness/disappointment in Libby’s face when she found out Michael’s real age.  He is an impressive 18 year old — a bright future ahead, I would think.  But IMO at their young ages, 5 years is a vast difference in life experience and I can’t see Libby getting past that.  They’re both lovely people.  She seems to have a very gentle heart and he does too.

Yeah, they wouldn't talk about that when they were actually pregnant -- the joke is that you've eaten so much that you look fat as though you're pregnant.  If you really are pregnant, no joke!

Why have they cut the entire dance scene out in Des's video on CBS?  I hadn't watched the Ponderosa videos for a couple of weeks and just got caught up on them.  Then I came here are read all the comments and couldn't figure out what you were talking about regarding the dancing.  Seems CBS cut a minute and a half out of the original video.  The full one is still up on YouTube.

I wonder if it had anything to do with Libby's shorts.

The lingering low shots of Libby's gyrating bootie shorts were pretty porny.  I really wished they had shown Des dancing.

Me too. Her interaction with the doctor was hilarious and I could totally related to her spaced-out awkwardness (I am also one of the resting bitch face sisterhood). She isn't the most exciting Survivor player and I doubt we'll ever see her back, but I'll enjoy seeing her in future Ponderosa videos this season.

As for Michael and LIbby, 5/6 years is huge when you're 18. When she was his age, he was in middle school (or about to start it). I can see why that would weird her out, in a way that finding out he was secretly 30 wouldn't, even though the age difference is the same. Also, Jenna gave Michael solid advice when she told Michael to tell Libby how old he was.

I’m still trying to figure out if Michael & Libby are dating?! Also, he can’t be 18 anymore. He’s at least 19 now. He’s practically a man and getting old fast. LOL!!!!! Now, will Seabastian be the next one coming to Ponderosa?  Will we finally see the beginning of the romance with Jenna? Will it be Chelsea with everyone saying in unison, “Who’s that?”. LOL!!!!

When it was suggested instead of asking here I peruse their social media accounts to see for myself, I only found one pic of them together and it wasn’t very recent, but I think I just scanned their instagrams, too.  I believe they live on opposite coasts, too.

Yeah, that's what I saw. I saw one picture of them together. I think they are good friends but they are both modeling and traveling. They're both super young and working the circuit.

This x1000.  If Jenna had shown this much personality in the broadcast episodes, I’d have considered her one of my faves - as opposed to a quasi-generic bikini stuffer.

I didn't say her Daisy Dukes, I meant that the way the cameraman was shooting her dancing from below, and lingeringly...that's what looked porny to me.  But of course YMMV.

Yep drop dead gorgeous, but surprisingly boring. It's interesting hearing her thoughts, but at the same time it doesn't really feel like she said anything.  I can start to see why she didn't get a good edit.  She seems like a sweetheart though.

I  really liked Chelsea's Ponderosa. I thin it was the least campy and produced and the most informative.  I liked the conversation she had with Chris about how hard it is too switch off the game mode. We have heard people discuss the transition before but it always seemed to be in passing. The way Chelsea described the shower, and how hard it was to sleep and how hard it was to trust people was informative. I liked how Chris was fully understanding and able to help her talk about it and Des was enjoying the game night. Overall, I thought it was a good Ponderosa.

Yeah, I thought that was a very interesting moment, Chelsea wondering if people were lying to her and then realizing, "Why would they lie to me? The game's over." Think about how utterly exhausting and depressing a mindset like that must be for 30+ days, never really knowing if you're having a genuine conversation with anyone. I think that more than homesickness is why people break down in tears during the family visits, just from relief of having a loving interaction with no strings attached.

Total lack of “gratuitous bikini shots and close up on body parts” (aka porny).

She is lovely but dull to listen to compared to the more animated players.   She reminds me a bit of Michele.

Her Ponderosa was very under produced. I guess this was when production started hating her. LOL!!! She seems like a nice girl and very pretty. That said, she talked a lot but I didn’t really hear anything. She doesn’t have the confessional voice for a Survivor player. She went a lot further then other contestants who’ve played before but in the end she just isn’t/wasn’t memorable enough. BTW, she only lost 8 pounds! C’mon! Why aren't these people losing 15-20 pounds? I miss the old days when people lost serious weight? I could lost 8 pounds over a weekend.

I always liked Chelsea because she reminded me of a certain Irish girl I dated in college (hey, red hair and green eyes are my kryptonite), and I was extremely fond of her low-key, no-drama personality.

That being said - I can see how Chelsea might’ve been too calm and low-key for some folks, in terms of onscreen entertainment value.

Doc said Chelsea was the smallest person coming into the game at 115 pounds, so I doubt she had that much available to lose without risking major organ failure.  To tell the truth, I was always somewhat disturbed by Chelsea’s body image during the comps - she tended to look borderline anorexic.

She's one of the few women who choose that shade of red and have it really complement their natural coloring.  The photography really avoided showing the grow out along her hairline (not that they cut off the top of her head on purpose in closeups or maybe they did?)

I don't understand the 'looked at a bowl of oatmeal and saw french toast'.  Anybody?

and the old "Traveling so unavailable for interviews" excuse when the usual Friday publicity doesn't happen?

She's still an enigma.

That was Jenna at breakfast talking about the difficulties of sensible eating in Ponderosa, when you’ve just immediately transitioned from near-starvation rations to having a limitless buffet within reach: “My mind says ‘oatmeal’, but my body says ‘French toast’.”

I think the only non (live) exit interview she didn’t do is with RHAP. I think she’s answering his questions via email. She was on EW Live with Dalton Ross this morning. She also did the usual exit press with Gordon Holmes & Josh Wigler. They’re the usual go to’s. I don’t think Rob & Stephen ever said anything bad about her so I’m not sure if she was trying to avoid him (them) or not. Rob did seem surprised last night that she wasn't doing an on call interview though.

She said in one of her interviews that she flew home to Utah to watch the episode with her family so assuming the conflict was her flight back to her home back in Phoenix, it seems ridiculous fro CBS not to reschedule her interview with RobC.  She is definitely not avoiding the press since she has done all the other usual outlets this morning.

Does CBS really do Rob’s scheduling?

I wonder if the other interviews are done via email, in advance.   They’re all print, right?  Devoting an hour or two to Rob might be another level of difficult.   She might be in finals in her PA program.

Link to comment

CBS schedules all the interviews for the bootees during the season. They are conducted over phones and the like and we see the transcripts. You can see how they are conversations back and forth which is not really all that possible using emails. Rob's exit interviews have always been the same length of time during the season. He tries and conducts much longer interviews after the season is over and the Survivors are more able to talk. Those are scheduled between Rob and the individual in question.

I wanted to see how long the exit interviews were on RHAP so I listened to the first few minutes of the latest and Rob says Chelsea was on a plane during their scheduled interview time.   But CBS sent her some questions to answer, which she emailed back.  I didn't care enough to listen.  I checked Des's interview and she only talked to him for about 15 minutes, so no big time commitment.  But I guess Chelsea decided to blow it off.  I'm ok with that, if CBS doesn't require it.  Even most of us big fans don't listen.  She must've forewarned Rob if he was able to get written questions out to her and back?  Maybe she offered to do it after her flight landed and it just didn't work with Rob's studio schedule, who knows.

Chelsea addressed this today on twitter:

"PSA: I have been getting questions about why I didn’t do the RHAP exit interview. I was on a one hour flight back home after being with my family. I asked to reschedule as I was given no prior notice of this interview time. CBS or Rob (not sure) said no. So it was done in email."

I believe her 100% just based on the fact that she did full phone interviews with seemingly every other media outlet (Dalton Ross, Gordon Holmes, Josh Wigler, Mike Bloom, etc). The idea that she would intentionally skip a player friendly place like RHAP after doing all the other seems far fetched to me. And CBS has been known to screw up thing like this.

As far as the Ponderosa goes, I enjoyed it. It was a little low key but the again so is Chelsea.  I am a little surpised we didn't see her out trying to teach the other players her dance moves.  That would have been fun.

I believe her, too.  I didn't listen past the first couple minutes but Rob's announcing of her not being there sounded a little annoyed and surprised, like how dare she stand him up like she did.  And why would CBS care if the two of them rescheduled.

Rob churns out podcasts in so much volume, I had to scroll back a page on his (Survivor-only) site thumbnail library just to find Des's exit interview, the last single boot.  That was like 15 Ghost Island podcasts ago.  He could have his studio booked solid.

Rob churns out a ton, I am sure it is the only way to make a living pod casting. I only listen to RHAP and the interviews sometimes. I used to listen to more but his site is blocked at work and RHAP is the only one on youtube.

I was curious if I imagined that Rob sounded a little annoyed so I listened to the whole part of them reading her answers and to me they seemed to be kind of making fun of Chelsea.  The female he had there to 'play' Chelsea was like ad libbing giggles and funny emphasis on words.  Maybe she always sounds mildly 'valley girl'-ish, but it seemed to fade away when she quit playing Chelsea.

I finally watched Chelsea's Ponderosa video. I agree it was interesting to hear her conversation with Chris about having to get out of "game mode" and remember that no one has any reason to lie to you anymore.

In Chelsea's case in particular, there are probably a couple of reasons. First of all, this doesn't seem like a season that was particularly hard on contestants food-wise. There haven't been long stretches where they've been forced to stay in their shelter, unable to search for or cook food. Secondly, she was small to begin with. People like Michael or Chris, who are bigger and male, need more calories at baseline than she does, and so the reduced calories they eat while playing Survivor affects them more than it would affect Chelsea. Furthermore, Survivor contestants tend to apportion equal amounts of food to everyone when they make it at camp. That means that during the game, Chelsea was probably getting a larger proportion of calories she needed to maintain her weight than the others were. Come to think of it, this may also have contributed to her immunity wins.
