That was refreshing! I liked the distinctions from Oliver’s last vertigo trip - being more aware and matching up against a mind game playing villain rather than himself. His “I need to go it alone” takeaway was a head scratcher- he’s now stretched more thin than before, and Felicity’s saving him demonstrated the value of teammates - but it didn’t make me roll my eyes as in previous seasons’ “Oliver at his lowest” moments.

Loved Chase - I wouldn’t mind a one time use of the new Lazarus pits for him.

The last couple of scenes between Felicity and Oliver were diamond encrusted, platinum plated gold. Her bravery and his pleased, relieved smile when he confirmed it was her - gaaaahhhhhhhhh! She changed her shoes to run to him - that is pure love.

Kudos to the acting - there were some fantastic line readings.  I liked Oliver’s “yep” when he looked at Chase and confirmed he was still high.  But “drugs are bad” takes first place.

I've always assumed that Oliver and Felicity's apartment is located downtown in fairly close proximity to the loft. And in 603, we learned that the loft is 6 blocks from City Hall. Municipal buildings are generally located in the same vicinity, so it makes sense to me that Oliver and Felicity's apartment is within running distance to the police station.

Mine too. But I'm assuming Felicity only knows this from observation, because she said in S1 that her only experience with drugs was accidentally ingesting a pot brownie. That's when we found out she was allergic to nuts.

I got the impression that Felicity invented her 'after' cocktail because of drinking, not drugs.

She actually called it a hangover cure. She had a whole special name for it, too. LOL.

That's right. Kind of funny that it ended on "drugs are bad," but (1) Oliver wasn't drunk and (2) "drugs are bad" was way funnier than a joke about drinking would have been.

I can’t believe how much I enjoyed this episode. Josh Segarra will always ALWAYS be one of my favorite actors on Arrow. He absolutely killed this episode and it made me realize even more so how terrible the ‘villains’ are this season.

Stephen Amell and Emily Bett continue to shine in their scenes together. It was a tightly paced episode that I will probably rewatch.

My only complaint is that it took SO LONG to get to a damn decent episode. raw

OMG That was so good!!!! This episode is an example of why I can't drop this terrible (most of the time) show!

I LOVE the way they have developed the relationship between William and Felicity. Loved that she went all Mama Bear on Oliver, fixed William's science project and took him to the fair.  How even though they are the most epic of OTPs, their child still comes first! That's definitely one thing Arrow has handled very well. Loved Felicity's rant about how she's seen the other girl's project on Amazon! Lol she's oooo "that mum."

William giving her shoes and his little smile when she calls him an angel is the cutest thing!!!!! Soooo cute! By the way anyone know what shoes they are? They look like really awesome shoes!

She called Oliver baby!!!! And saved him!!!! And did you see his stupid dorky face when she said he was her man!!!!!!

Felicity running to go save Oliver was the most awesome, sensible and natural thing in this episode! Why would she call Diggle and the Horrible N00bs when Oliver was dosed on Vertigo and on a rampage! They'd exacerbate his condition even further! Probably lead to a bloody shoot out. Felicity was the ONLY person who could talk him down!

That was such a great scene between them when Felicity was talking him down. He went from being all GRRRR, to all hurt when he said "you left" and then you can tell he looked like he really wanted to believe her but was scared she wasn't real and he was just going to get hurt again. Then the smile when he felt her hand. Damn SA and EBR!!!!!! This is why I can't kick this dreadful (most of the time) show!!!!!!!!!

Arrghhhhhh they flew out with her in his arms while he thanked her for saving him!!!! THAT'S MY OTP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

***

Random thoughts:

Have I just been deprived of Olicity dessert for too long this season or were they a bit flirty when she asked him about taking that old suit for a spin?

"Drugs are bad" - Can EBR get any cuter? Seriously! She needs to be stopped! Too adorable that line reading! Her little face when she said it! *heart eyes x 10000000000 from me*

Felicity runs very very very fast with excellent posture! Who would have thought she was so fit =P

Diaz is so mumbly he’s barely comprehensible, but I found a lot of Felicity’s lines hard to make out this ep too. I had to rewind to catch what she said about Diaz spying on his minions, and calling William an angel. Enunciate, EBR!

She tried that at the start of the episode and Diggle just fought back even worse than before. Curtis and Dinah told Oliver to go away and never call them.

Diggle and Oliver... There were 2 ppl in that convo and neither seemed ready to reconcile.. Tho it was Diggle who said it didn't have to be like this and Oliver who said he didn't need his advice anymore after 6 years...

But still my point stands... Its already been shown that Dinah abd Ollie are at least on speaking terms and both committed to stopping Diaz.. Everyone's problem with Ollie has been leadership... They don't want him dead... And they don't want Diaz to win... And they really don't want Felicity gunned down.. So no I'm still calling Ducktales... Cuz Felicity knows all this.. And unless your saying that in her heart she thinks they wouldn't come... Felicity woulda reached out...

Now some posters have said.. Its because she lives close by and I can buy that maybe she just stopped thinking and took off...

I guess its just me but I thought Quentin was running some kind of double cross all episode... Or that it wasn't really Quentin but a hallucination. . something seemed off.. He was really quick to dump all if Ollie's issues on the newbs and Dig... And that didn't feel like Quentin... Felt like his advice isolated Ollie and in the end he became mayor... But maybe I'm seeing things or just knowing Josh Segarra was back had me looking for extra stuff

But what about any of those people would've de-escalated the situation with Oliver? Snarky-ass Curtis and Dinah probably would've just escalated the situation - they would've had him going in that room whether they intended to or not because of their bad attitudes. Considering Oliver's recent terrible run-ins with Diggle, having him try and talk Oliver down probably would've done the same. Felicity was a good voice of reason for this particular task - when Oliver didn't need backup, but needed a clearheaded person who loves him to get him to STOP.

Ok.. I can buy that she goes in.. Partly cuz anyone else he bugs out... But its still a bunch of trigger happy cops.. Even if she talks him down it coulda been a bloodbath if Diaz is proactive..  She has no recourse if the bullets start flying...

I get it.. Its the writing which has been all over the place.. And they wanted their olicity moment.. And gauging from the online responses and the multitudes of gifs I've seen they got it...  But the Felicity who I've been a fan of for all these years.. The one who wants to keep ppl safe.. She makes the call to at least Diggle even if she still runs to the cop shop to talk Ollie down.. She reaches out.. Cuz she's smart and she knows Diggle

Well, technically, he became mayor because of the corrupt councilman choosing to impeach Oliver (due to what he said about Oliver's actions with firing the Chief of Police and Pej's character). I think Quentin was acting oddly too, like too calm, but there were points that I could see why he was. Like Oliver, Quentin has had his own character growth, especially when it comes to the green masked vigilante as well as Oliver. He used to despise both, but we've come a long way. I think it feels weird because we haven't seen Quentin share scenes like this with Oliver in well over a season. His arc has been taking over with his Daughter Issues so this is the first ever episode this season where he's made zero mention of Black Siren or Laurel.

Plus, for me, it was nice to see Quentin still on Oliver's side. After Diggle dumping on him last episode and NTA acting like petulant children in 6B (and parts of 6A), it's nice to see someone tell Oliver that he's not wrong and he has grown and not everything is his fault.

That, in itself, is very heroic. We've also seen everyone on this show do stupid, risky things. We also know that, in these situations, it'll work out because it's still a TV show. And, in this episode, for the first time in this Civil War arc, they chose character over plot.

True... I hope her explanation comes up in following episodes and its just that it was a  calculated but still kinda rash/heroic decision...  Because it could be read and I've seen it said elsewhere that she didn't have faith they would come... I don't believe that's true and  I don't think Felicity would either..

But  I see how you could get there.. And these writers love stupid angst...

Diggle: why didn't you reach out 2 us Felicity?

Felicity : I wasnt sure you'd come

Diggle: Waaaaaat???  Manpain

Curtis: Snark.. Disbelief... Sadness... Manpain

Dinah: Arrrrrrgh.. Scowl Scowl

I mean, to be fair, Felicity shouldn't be trusting them to calm down a compromised Oliver anyway. For all she knows, Dinah would have tried to fight alongside Oliver, Curtis would have failed to convince him to stop, and Diggle's emotional wounds with Oliver, and vice versa, were too fresh for him to make an impact. I think they would have come, but I don't think they would have convinced him to stop his suicide mission.

Well, actually, we've seen Felicity choose to go into situations that could be dangerous. Season 1, she went undercover at the casino. Season 2, in the Broken Doll episode, she chose to also go out in the field and did end up getting hurt before Quentin and the Arrow could get to her, which was risky in itself. Felicity choosing to go save Oliver and hope that she wasn't too late was risky, but in character, even without her calling backup (and technically, I think she thought she had Quentin). I think, if she heard the bullets flying when she was inside, she probably would have called Diggle. But since the police station was quiet, she knew she either had time, or Oliver was already dead. And with her finding Quentin, she knew Oliver was only just getting inside.

But yeah, this episode was for Oliver/Felicity, just like last episode was for Oliver/Diggle, just like a lot of the episodes before was Oliver vs NTA. So yeah, I'm happy they let Felicity go in, even if it was dangerous.

Ahh see this is where I personally feel that Felicity has changed a bit. She's less cautious now, makes bigger moves. We saw that last season when she wanted to go after Chase and this season when she went after Cayden James without the team.

How that works out for her in the future I do not know but her actions (to me) in this episode felt very logical and in character with the person she's evolved into. She had the tablet with the heat signatures of where Oliver was, where the cops were. She has had enough training to find her way around the precinct. Like the others have said it was a do or die moment, her husband was high on Vertigo, running around in an old suit after a bunch of corrupt cops. Most reasonable and safe thing for her to do was try and save said husband especially since she knew where he was and where the corrupt cops were.

They way the scene was set up I feel like it would have been odd if she'd sat around and tried to ring people for help. That's not how I see Felicity. Especially when "her man" is involved.

She did reach out - to Quentin. Who hadn't been even remotely antagonistic toward Oliver, and he still got punched out. What do you think would've happened to Dinah, Curtis and Diggle - who have been antagonistic toward Oliver? They would've fought and probably lost.

And this Felicity DID want to keep Oliver safe - that's why she was the one who went and didn't trust anyone who'd recently had issues with Oliver to talk him out of what he was doing.

I think for me it was when he showed back up at city hall the vertigo was still in him and at first lance is just letting him be odd then he pulls him away.. I dunno it felt weird... And the fact he didn't mention laurel also seems ooc if nothing comes if it.. Then it was my imagination but if later we see he's taken Ollie outta the mayorship to help laurel... Or laurel/Diaz did something to control him. Ima be like I knew it...

When it comes to the newbs and Diggle... Well ive been pretty consistent that I don't think its all the newbs fault... It all shoulda been handled differently... 80-20 in favor if OTA... But they made some missteps and to a point I've understood NTA's anger .. Even after they're whining was overboard... As for Diggle I been waiting for that blowup... Number twos eventually chafe under number ones  and As much as I love Ollie he chafes... Plus I never liked that he was mayor and the arrow..it screams arrogance and "I can do it all" and most  of the time Speedy was doing all the work or Lance... He was spread too thin...

At least they had Quentin call it out by saying what a gutsy move it was for her to go into the precinct alone. Her rash decision wasn't completely unaddressed.

It's nuts that they clearly didn't have RG in that scene (especially because they brought in CH and JH for it -- they didn't have any other scenes, did they? Or maybe they did and I just blocked them out lol). I think that RG lives in Van too. I wonder if he was shooting on another project that week or something?

First, I'm glad I didn't believe that promo when they showed Felicity telling Oliver that they "needed space." I'm all too familiar with the games these promo monkeys play. That said, though that scene did actually happen, it wasn't REAL. Still. I wasn't happy that Felicity told Oliver him yelling/getting angry was "over the line." I came away with the thought: What? Now every time Oliver is frustrated or angry and reacts, he's not a good person? And in this instance, Oliver is dosed, he's trying to talk to Felicity, and you've got WIlliam "Dad, come on!" "Dad...we're going to be late," Daddadadadadadadadadaddadadadad.  Never mind the fact Oliver asked William to give him a minute, and it wasn't 30 seconds before he started whining.

But the rest of the episode? I enjoyed for the most part. I wanted to punch Diggle. I'm so tired, but whatever it was that Diggle said that had Oliver saying in response that he'd been listening to Diggle's advice for six years, and by now he [Oliver} believes he has a right to a reprieve. Which I took to mean, Oliver didn't have to listen to what Diggle has to say now, since he quit.

The one thing I didn't like about Phantom!Chase was how he made Oliver think he had to be alone, and everyone kept leaving him. Because we had that same kind of psychological AND Physical torture played out last season. And yeah, yeah, I thought that Oliver had come to believe that it wasn't true. Then I had to remind myself he was dosed up on Vertigo.

I knew that councilman was dirty from the moment he opened his mouth: he oozed sleaze and slime. So him just staying they are going to impeach means Oliver is already impeached? There is no impeachment process or hearings? Alrighty then.

And I know I sound like a broken record, but WHAT THE FUCK? So the ENTIRE police department thinks working for a murderous drug dealer is waaaaay better than being a cop? I'm sure when they joined the Academy, that wasn't their intent. And these FUCKTOIDS knew cops didn't get paid as well or as much as the criminals they swore to arrest. That one twat, with her "PROTECT DIAZ!!!!" made me see red. He's only been in the City for however many months has passed this season. Like that mushmarble mouthed who mumbles so much one can barely understand what he's saying, was able to take control over the whole city so easily? And why does he want to "break" Oliver? What has the Green Arrow or Oliver done to him? He was and is a two bit drug dealer. He's NO Anatoly; no Chase; No Wilson; No Cayden James; No Merlyn.

But I loved to see the return of Quentin. And was smiling as he trash talked/TRUTH spoke about the NOOBS. And sorry to admit, John. And then when Felicity is FINALLY been apprised of what's happened, how she took action.

When she said "my man," it immediately took me back to season one when she pretended to be a delivery girl of Big Burger and stalker of Tommy, and saying "But he's my Maaaaaaan" as she was taken away. And the arrow to the Moon!

Oh, and even if they were hallucinations, this cannot be said enough: SHUTUP/FUCKOFF Stutterbarker, Pouty Lips and Wild Dong!!!!

And AGAIN with how Oliver is stretched too thin to be a good hero. BOLLOCKS. So is Superman stretched too thin? SuperGirl? Black Lightning? Just stop with this bullshit, SHOW. I"m more than happy that Oliver doesn't have a team--he just needs Felicity. And

since we know Colton is coming back next season, Roy/Arsenal is all he needs while John pouts and sells his soul to the Devil that is ARGUS because he's all butthurt he can't wear the Arrow costume and be him.

And he had a point--though he would come up with the most ridiculous lies to get Felicity, the IT Girl to get information he needed, she wasn't his eyes and ears until toward the end of the season. And how much time passed in season one in show, before Diggle officially joined?

I’m not sure what actually happened in that scene after Oliver broke William’s science project. Because Felicity told him to get out but then she denied having kicked him out when she was talking to Quentin. So some of the last part of that convo was a hallucination, although I don’t know which part.

Welcome to the Peeta edition of Arrow: "Real or not real?" ...

  • Felicity tells Oliver to "get out" of the apartment after he verbally lashes out at William and accidentally destroys his science experiment. REAL.*

(* My interpretation of Felicity's denial when Quentin said, "He said, you, uh - you kicked him out," is that they were talking about O/F's marriage and not their apartment. That would be consistent with the language used by Felicity in 422-Lost In the Flood, when she told Curtis about her parents: "So apparently my dad didn't leave. My mom kicked him out.")

  • Felicity: "I think we should take some space, Oliver. ... How you lost it on William, that is crossing a line. I know that you have a lot on your plate with Diaz and John and the impeachment, but that is no excuse. It can't be an excuse. He's your son. And you just showed him the man his father really is. That is not the man that I married." NOT REAL.**

(** It was after this scene that Oliver tells Quentin, "My wife wants a separation. I lost my temper in front of my son. I scared him. It was really bad.")

  • Adrian Chase: "Everything you touch dies. What you're going through right now-- losing your team, your wife, the impeachment-- all of it is happening just like I told you it would, and nothing in that blood test is gonna change that." NOT REAL.
  • Quentin gives Oliver good, solid advice (basically, that the newbies and Diggle have their own issues, and that Felicity loves Oliver). REAL.
  • Felicity literally runs from their apartment to the SCPD precinct to save Oliver from himself. REAL.
  • Oliver: "You left." Felicity: "No, I didn't. That was not me, Oliver. The real me is standing right here, and I'm not going anywhere. I'm glue, baby." REAL.
  • Oliver: "I don't know how to tell if you're real." Felicity: "That's the Vertigo. It's just messing with your head. Don't trust it. Okay. Listen to your heart." REAL.

What a great episode! I loved it. SA's acting as Oliver (both present day and S1 version) was fantastic. Felicity saves her husband! Quentin has good stuff to say that wasn't about one of his daughters.  One of my favorite episodes of this season. This show is so much better without the newbies.

Kudos to the show for not making Felicity/EBR run in heels. (Unlike poor Bryce Dallas Howard in Jurassic World.)

Did you notice that the team symbols in the opening credits are now gone and that we're back to the single arrowhead?

LOL. "But he's my Maaaaaaan" is one of my Felicity moments ever (along with Diggle's reaction. Oh Diggle. *sigh*). And I love that Stephen said the arrow to the moon was purposely shot to be similar to Oliver and Felicity in the elevator shaft in 122. I love it when the show uses its history for good, not evil.

It's kinda weird he didn't hallucinate Dig!

The mum in me freaked out when he accidentally knocked that cabbage thinking how on earth were they going to fix it! I told myself they'd just get a new glass case and sweep up the dirt and dust off the cabbage.

Nice touch with the "William wont leave his room" in the hallucination. Was a good reference to how William was at the beginning of the season. Kid has come a long way. They did a great job with him as parents. He's pretty well adjusted.

In an episode that included her both kicking him out and initiating a separation, they should probably be more careful with their language. So Arrow!
