If I had to watch another second of Joy drooling over Austin on their expensive, paid by TLC honeymoon, I'd have started tearing my hair out. (Or changed the channel)

Save your hair by changing the channel. Why does the title In Love In Switzerland sound like a soft porn movie title. Heading to the Prayer Closet.

I didn't have any problem with Austin.  He seemed as normal as I would expect.  At times, it seemed he was not as in the mood for PDA's as Joy, but, other than that, he seems grounded, level headed, adventurous and pretty normal.  They seem happy to me. I wish them the best. Of course, having a baby that soon....expected, but, so immature.  I gues they know that by now.

It wasn't just the unmarried Duggars who are dumber than dirt, it's the married also. I am starting to live for those snarky questions and why do they continue to try to answer them and look so blasted stupid? They need some sort of School of the Kitchen Table re-education since that dining room table really screwed them over.

I guess you didn't hear about how Gothardite homeschooling not only prepares people better than any other education to be world leaders in all pursuits but makes their intellectual and moral superiority so apparent that when they board airplanes they're constantly offered upgrades to first-class seating because their inherent gleaming excellence shines through.

I swear. I've read it more than once on Recovering Grace.

What you're taking for stupidity is actually genius that we're all too blind to appreciate. Seriously.

A grudging point in her defense: the French or German for sparkling water does translate to "water with gas" so she may have gotten that from an English menu translation.

I was impressed that she actually has good pitch when she was yodelling. The Duggars are such dreadful tormentors of music that I was surprised Joy actually had some musicality.

Egads, I said two nice things about Joy. I agree with all of you that Austin is not into her. He gives off a really controlling vibe to me. She seems to be brushing it off now but I'm not sure that will last.

And who doesn't know what fondue is?

First off, I was pleasantly surprised they went on a faraway, somewhat adventurous vacation.

Fondue was really popular in the 60s/70s, but rarely seen in the US now. Lots of banged up old fondue pots in the thrift shops. I lived in NYC for years and I believe there's only one fondue restaurant there...I also think Austin was trying to make a weak joke about Swiss cheese simply being any kind of cheese in Switzerland. So I am not surprised she didn't know what it was, now she does -- a perfunctory Yelp search found only three Arkansas restaurants serving fondue, all in Little Rock.

And my first taste of European fizzy water at age 7 when we moved to Europe was a shock...I'm sure she's had seltzer, but European mineral water tastes strongly of minerals; has a strong, unique taste. I don't think I've ever had any in the US. And indeed, it is described as "with gas" in most other countries.

She seemed interested in most of these new things, and fairly adventurous. I think it likely opened up her curiosity gene. I thought it was great they didn't go on some hackneyed tropical honeymoon, and I sure enjoyed the gorgeous scenery. The crew must've been over the moon at their trip!

I about died when I saw the painter at Jingers house! Why couldn't she do some simple painting? She's not working and wasn't pregnant yet, or was she? Even Jer could have painted some between sermon writing or whatever else he does all week long. Surely Jim Bob has had the kids help with simple home projects like that since he flips houses. I am just floored at this, pick up a roller and TRY to roll on at least the primer! Your sister Joy is helping her hubby fix up her own house as well as  flipping some others. Good Grief!

Austoon has a mean streak that is barely hidden by his dead black eyes, insincere smiles and ability to frost a room just by entering...

Yes, he does.  If he ever loses control, it will be bad.

I enjoyed the fact that Joy still has some of her spirit left!  She's different than her sisters.  She immediately said Hi to every person she met.  She felt guilty about holding up the line in the train station but glared at the person who told them to hurry.  She was able to hold conversations with the tourist at the chocolate shop and the the hang glider instructors.  She showed more spirit last night than she had since she was 13.

She is still bossy and indecisive at the same time, however.

I was impressed they spoke with the other couple instead of being all handsy and requiring another chef to reprimand one of these couples

And who doesn't know what fondue is?

Captain America. In the first movie, Howard Stark had to explain it to him.

Also it's seems very likely there was no fondue in the Duggar house.

Someone should tell them there are different types of fondue- mainly cheese, chocolate, and beef.

Should we submit this menu to Bobby Flay and/or Food Network? Every body ready to spend their hard earned vacation time with your family here?

sorry for the flash. :)

At least Austin got the adventure buddy he wanted in a wife - for a week since the rest of her life she’ll be pregnant and won’t be allowed to hand glide.

This has to be my most favorite typo ever.

I only half-watched this boring mess. Some thoughts on what I saw:

Kendra's parents are adorable....her dad in particular....hotter than her Duggar fiance by 100 miles.

The Babes playing tennis was all kinds of cute....Jinge is the first Duggar to participate in a sport wearing appropriate attire. Points for her and for Jer's ass in his shorts. And Jinge wasn't half bad at tennis. Too bad she'll probably never play again.

"Bossy" Jess was wearing her wanna-be-Joanna Gaines shirt. JB so wrote that scene.....the painter was probably priming the cabinets before they even filmed it.

Good lord...now Jana is a tile-layer too. Another JB-inspired segment. Must. Marry. Jana. Off. Soon.

Austin mentioned Utube and Joy didn't stare in puzzlement.....hmmm...how would Joy know about Utube???? And, Austin, Joy does not have 19 siblings....that would make a total of 20.......I hope he's not in charge of the measuring on that house project.

At least the Babes try to communicate in another language. But, good grief....do you think Babe likes books?

Joe and Kendra and the holier-than-thou courtship bit. Just UGH. And puke.

When I was in Ireland or England, I don’t remember which (I was 10 and 11) I ordered a soda. I was served club soda and my face probably looked similar to Joy’s with the sparkling water.

How refreshing that Kendra’s family was all ready to go when Joe and Kendra arrived. No announcements, no search for a shoe, and no visible filthy feet!

The honeymoon scenery was great!

I surprisingly liked Joy on her honeymoon. She was having a good time, and I did see some chemistry between her and Austin while they were waiting to go hang gliding. I'm super jealous of their trip.

I thought they went to Greece too but maybe because they were on a "mission" there it got cut from the episode.

Jill is still on the show, so that is how they survive without Derick having a job I guess? Doesn't do any good to fire him and then continue to pay her?

I just saw her on one talking head (old footage, I think) in the beginning.  I guess contractually the show can use old footage they have of her.  I'll bet she could kick Derick for losing them that lucrative gig.

I'll give Joy and Austin a pass on the fondue.  They're both young and have never been exposed to the places I learned about fondue: sitcoms, movies, magazines, etc.  I've never eaten it, though.

My theory about Austin is he is uncomfortable being filmed.  Maybe he's the life of the party when the cameras are off.  Or not.

I agree with whoever upthread said it was surprising to see Joy holding her arm around the hang-glider guy.  I wonder if she protested at having to do it or kept quiet and got a secret thrill out of it.

The possum menu has to be a joke, right?

Is frisbee golf really a thing?  Or is it just a Forsyth family thing?  Either way, it's boring to watch and probably more boring to play.

Noticed how clean and crisp Kendrab's siblings looked in store bought clothes that had not been washed hundreds of times until they were grayish misshapened  thrift store rags like the Duggs so proudly wear....

Jana must have learned her tiling skillz from the Lowe's Saturday clinics.

The tragedy is the Duggs do not care how clueless and stupid they are of common knowledge things...guess they are laughing all the way to the bank to cash their TLC checks...

If they played Cranium the game would end in a tie Zero to Zero to Zero...

I’m going to risk sounding like a horrible human but I’m rewatching this episode now... is anyone else on board with the possibility of Joy having a mild intellectual disability? I know the Duggers were homeschooled but wow she seems the slowest out of all the sibs.

I don't think Austin is all that awful.  I think he is a lot like his dad, and as an only son, I'm sure he spend plenty of time with his father.  I think he's stiff and dull, and he doesn't have much of a sense of humor.  I guess he'll be another authoritarian fundamentalist dad, and when Joy starts to feel the burdens on her, she'll fall in line behind her headship.

Frisbee golf is a real thing and we have courses here.  Don't tell the five year old grandson it's boring.  He loves it.  There are even specialized frisbees for different distances/purposes.

These international honeymoons are wasted on these people. Go rent a cabin in Tenn and eat burgers at every meal and get it on every night and be done with it.

Yeah, except that that would completely defeat TLC's purpose. They create the honeymoons, as they created the old world-travel vacays for JB, M and the 19, not for the Duggs but for the TeeVee audience. It's always been to entice more people to watch the show. Has never had anything to do with the Duggars at all. That's why every couple goes on a different damn foreign vacation, and why many of them clearly indicate that they don't give a crap about the destination that was chosen for them, like Jessa and Europe and Jingle and Jer in Australia, which they basically stated they had zero interest in, as they talked about the damn cuisine and such and showed no interest at all in the things people go to Australia to see. It's all set up by TLC in the interest of TeeVee novelty to keep people watching the show and their damn network.

I think she's just not very smart and has zero inclination to learn anything because she has no goals in life beyond spitting out a baby every year. She seems to wear her ignorance like a badge of honor.

Joy is most likely average in the Duggar scale of intelligence...her rating...Dim.

Jill is the obviously... Dullard.

Jess ...Dolt.

Jing...Dizzy.

Josiah and Jedidiah/Jeremiah...Dumb and Dumber To (shout out to the movie)

About the painting, or paying the painters; I forgot TLC was probably footing the bill, duh me! Oh, I hate to paint and yes it can get messy but in the end I refuse to pay someone to do it and secretly get a sense of pride after I see my results. I am a neat freak too.

I was in the NO, NO, do not paint those cabinets camp at first but then after seeing the results, it was beautiful! (that I may pay for) But about the tile work....do you not have to grout wall tiles on a backsplash? That job had to be planned ahead of time. I'm betting Jana did not do that, she may have placed those last few tiles in, but gluing cutting and grouting is a major job and that looked perfect in the end! Someone trying to pull the wool over our eyes? Oh, they painted both top and bottom cabinets white. I was expecting the bottoms to be a different color like they talked about being in style now. I HATE that look and am glad someone (Jeremy?) talked them out of that!

I’m not upset at Jinger- I don’t paint either. I will do locksmith work, plumbing, furniture assembly but painting? No no. My manicure is too important to me.  Last year I payed someone to paint my entire two flat before we moved in- best money spent.

I didn't think this episode was awful nor extremely boring.

I don't get an evil vibe from Austin, I think like other posters have said he's just a bit reserved, at least on camera.

Jer & Jin seem like a typical young couple. They do have what I consider skewed beliefs, but they're not alone with that.

Still don't like Jessa. And has Ben been banned from uttering more than two words at a time?

Joe and Kendra two immature kids getting married - watch out kiddos, real life can be a bitch.

Jill's TH was as empty as her actual head...does she get paid per word, if she makes the final cut of the show, she looked pale and shaky as she read the cue card written for her, no need for an original thought...as if...

I must have missed this. What did she babble about?

Link to comment

Jill's TH...verbatim...not edit for clarity or grammar. This was shown during the stroll down memory lane of Joy/Austoon's cake cutting ceremony...

Jilly says..."Married life is amazing and I feel like they're probably just gonna be excited to not have to work out, like... logistics of chaperones and all that, I remember

those feelings and... um... it just takes the element of, like the logistics out of everything...so that's really nice..."

What the fork is she saying?

Jill has not ideal what logistics means..but that doesn't stop her from earning her TLC paycheck...you go, girl...don't let ignorance stop you from being you...

What was up with Joe's reaction to touching Kendra's waist during their engagement photo shoot? He acted like he had just burned himself on a hot stove. It's one thing to want to stick to the "rules", but these two show no affection or chemistry whatsoever. And the way Joe talked about her as the "perfect wife" - man, I feel bad for Kendra.

Hang gliding. Who would have thought? Switzerland looks amazing. Adding to bucket list.

Don't you all have the restaurant chain The Melting Pot? I like the cheese and chocolate fondues but I hate cooking the main course in those pots.

Thank you. I've been wracking my brain trying to think of the name of the fondue restaurant chain. Never been but it sounds interesting. I give them a pass on not knowing what it is.

I almost fell off my chair seeing the professional painters & agree wouldn't want the Duggar clan doing anything major to my house.   It looks like they have professionals coming in to build Jer's bookshelves, too.  Good for them.  BTW,  I thought Jana liked doing the tiling thing.  I'm sure she learned when the TTC was built.  Think she was the main tiling person on the Bates' renovations. Loved the kitchen when it was done but couldn't stand all of Jessa's comments. I'm sure she is extremely jealous of Jinge's new house.  The Vuolos have plenty of house to grow into rather than grow out of so quickly.
