I so greatly dislike those types of large, obvious and common looking tattoos.  I find them unattractive and off putting.  And her filthy mouth just puts the cherry on top.  But I don't care for Tia anyway, so there's that.....

If they make her the next season lead, I will boycott it exactly the way I did Nick's season.

I agree. I could see her on BIP but not as the Bachelorette. And I think her family scared Arie. I did not believe him when he said he could see himself with any of them. I read an article recently in which Chris Harrison said one of the seasons had to be heavily edited because it was obvious from the very start who was the lead's favorite. I can't remember which one though.

Spoiler

I would like to see Becca as the next Bachelorette. She comes across as intelligent and classy, at least what i've seen of her so far.

The editors must have snipped a lot of footage of Arie and Lauren to make his choice less obvious. Lauren came alive when she was talking about Arie to her mother.

I would LOVE to see Tia as the next Bachelorette, ESPECIALLY because she has tattoos.  I'd love to see a non wannabe fashion model who's just pretty and from a part of the country we don't see on the show much.  I don't have tattoos but, again, I like that difference between Tia and the mostly generic women we see as the Bachelorette. Go, Tia, I say!

Lauren did say she and Arie can look at each other from across the room and know what the other is thinking without saying anything.

This is a hilarious mental image: Arie and Lauren exchanging telepathic conversations like "wow" and "nice" from across the room.

Quote

I was completely shocked by Tia getting the boot.  However I'm thinking about the dates now and she was the only one who didn't really show off what she likes or who she is.*   She designed a day that involved racing because that's what she knew he would like it not necessarily because she would enjoy it.  It was a very calculated move that I think ultimately did her in.   Kendall didn't try and hide her quirkiness and designed a day that showcased her.  Becca chose the apple picking day  because that's what she likes to do in  the fall**.  Lauren picked the silent horseback riding day because that fits her to a tee.

All of the silent Lauren jokes are basically the only shred of entertainment I'm getting from this show anymore. It's been hard to care all season but especially so since the bigger characters have left.

I haven't even bothered to watch this week's show yet and don't really care. I'll definitely want to see TWTA, but FS show or finale? Don't care. This season was a bust, IMO.

Oh, based on spoilers, you might want to watch them—it sounds like this might really truly be the most dramatic final rose and after the final rose ever!

Becca is the rational choice, but he's going to pick Lauren. Did we hear him tell Lauren he's falling in love with her last week? Isn't that foreboden? He still can't describe anything he likes about her, except how he feels when he looks at her.

Sub "JoJo" for "Becca," and this could've been a post from Ben H.'s season.

This is why The Bachelor doesn't work. Too many of the guys pick literally based on looks alone.

I just want to go back to Kendall's hometown house and do a really slow pan around the rooms, see the top and a full view of the statue with the blue robes that was behind Kylie's head and see all the beads and stuff in the boxes ready for someone's hobby and just get a proper look.

Nothing was as interesting as that family's collections. Except for Lauren's dad, who I liked - even if her parent's marriage has been terribly scarring, won't they be thrilled to watch that ep, those uptight controlled folk, hahahaha.

Being from the south myself I'm all for having a awesome Bachelorette from here but IMO Tia's not it. I don't mind tattoos as long as they are not overdone but that's not the issue with me. I don't like the excessive swearing it's not a classy look. And the tattling was so unnecessary and catty. I could over look the swearing if she cleaned it up but it would be hard to enjoy her as Bachelorette knowing she had to back stab someone to even be in contention for the spot.

Well. one thing about Emily is that she has beautiful eyes, and they give off a warmth and a sense of some intelligence behind her looks. Not so with Lauren. Lauren has dead eyes.

Right, I don't think there's any comparison with Lauren and Emily.  Emily not only had beautiful eyes but high cheekbones, a dazzling smile and a sweet, fun  personality.  She was always trying to put her bachelors at ease and make all the dates fun.

I haven't watched the Bachelorette, but don't the women pick based on looks alone as well? I watch BIP and Winter Games and it seems like the women are just as shallow as the men are.

Of course women also pick based on looks. But it's the guys I hear say things like, "She's exactly what I imagined my wife would look like." Ben H. was trying to reassure his Lauren B with that even after they'd been together for a year. Arie seems headed down the same path.

I've also noticed that almost all male leads start with "beautiful" or "gorgeous" when they describe a woman they like. The female leads usually talk about how the men make them feel.

That’s hysterical!! Uncle Gary hitting Arie with his cane!! Lmfao

I thought the same thing about Arie checking out how the moms look. Tia’s Mom was a bit scary and Lauren looked exactly like hers, which is a good thing. Arie probably wouldn’t have minded a threesome with Kendall and her sister.

Arie and Kendall playing with the rats was too funny. Entertaining episode.

OK, I'm watching this right now and am at Becca's home town. First there's a few shots downtown along the river - just a few blocks from where I work - then they are at Minnetonka Orchards, which is just a few miles from my house! I've been there a couple of times. I'd say it's around 30 miles from Prior Lake since I'm 25 miles from my brother's place in PL. I wonder when they shot those scenes. I was probably at my cubicle at work.

My husband wondered why they didn’t get a shot of Mystic Lake casino while they were in the neighborhood.

Probably because gambling doesn't jibe with the apple-picking, church-going persona they've created for Becca.

Emily would be a dead ringer for Kelly Preston (or Elisabeth Shue, since they look so similar) if not for those gigantic veneers on her teeth.

Personality-wise, there's no comparison...mainly because Lauren doesn't appear to have one. I'm honestly not even seeing the looks comparison all that strongly.

Also notable in that clip is that Arie looks like a much better kisser when he's kissing Emily. Maybe they just had good kissing chemistry together and it's not necessarily Arie's skill, because a lot of his slurp-fests this season have been kind of gross to witness. Part of it is the rapid-fire succession of one after another and other times, it's just because it looks awkward.

Lauren's dad was fully prepared to give the stone-walled hardass approach to Arie until Arie mentioned the troops, and just like that he's practically calling him "son".

Tia's mom looked like a Muppet. I'd love to hang out with her dad at their "Cook Shack" though. I wanted to know what sort of felonies her brother has on his record.

Kendall's twin sister was like the wise hippie whose tent you find yourself in receiving life advice and tarot card readings while lost in the woods tripping on acid.

That taxidermy date has to be the weirdest thing I've ever seen on this show (although I missed a whole whack of middle seasons). All I can think is that he must really be into her or he figures she must be super freaky in bed, because that date would send most sensible people for the hills. Her sister drove me a little nuts, though. Somebody way upthread observed that a lot of the family members just want to have their little moment in the spotlight, and Kendall's sister's endless talk about what she did or didn't feel from them seemed like a particularly egregious example of that to me. All of which doesn't change the fact that I still rather like Kendall, so maybe I wouldn't be running as fast as I think I would from all the taxidermy. If nothing else, I give her props for never once apologizing or being embarassed about what she's into. She acknowledges that it's weird, but still puts it out there, all "this is me; take it or leave it."

Nothing with any of the others really stood out to me, except that, as always, I remain grossed out by all the asking for permission (even if euphemistically phrased as "blessing"). I appreciated that at least a few of those asked basically said "it's not really up to me, but if she's happy, I'm happy." I live for the day that someone says flat out "She's a grown-ass woman; why the hell are you asking me?" but some of these at least approached that.

Because it would be a free endorsement for Mystic Lake. If Mystic Lake wants to appear on the show, they have to pay for it!

Yeah how come every parent on all the seasons is always A-ok with their kids " dating" someone who's also dating 25 other people ? My parents would never agree to being on the hometown portion of the show .. I guess we see where these famewhores come from ...

Same.  I’m of stiff-upper-lip British descent and my family has always taken the “hatch, match, and despatch” view toward publicity.  My parents would’ve died of embarrassment if I’d gotten involved with anything like this, and they certainly would never have agreed to participate in any way.

I think there may have been a contestant many years ago whose family refused to take part in the hometown date with that season’s bachelor, but it seems as though recently there are so many hopefuls in the contestant pool that they only select candidates with families who will play into the script (i.e., “I’ll kill you if you hurt her feelings but you have my blessing to enter into a phony engagement if you choose her over the other three girls you’re about to have sex with”).

Honestly, if my kid went on TB, I probably wouldn't agree to be on a Hometown...and I support him unconditionally. I'm just not wired for that kind of publicity. Maybe they'd hire his "family" from central casting to replace us.

Not to mention these people are not virginal teenagers (yeah, an oxymoron these days, but I digress). They are all out on their own (okay, except maybe Baby Bekah whose mommy put out an APB on her) and supporting themselves. Who cares what the parents and siblings think? Do they seriously bring dates home to meet their family?

I'd rather see them where they actually live, doing what they actually would do with their friends. Lauren for example lives in Dallas--let's see what she'd do with Arie for fun there and what her friends think of him.

RIGHT!  I mean, after dating someone for a while, and getting serious, you might want them to meet your parents.   But not all your siblings, cousins, aunts and uncles, all at the same time.   Yeah, I'd much rather dates in the place where they are currently living, then this version of "hometown" visits.

I thought Arie held up admirably with all sorts of peculiar and awkward family dynamics. Even if he's a player, he has a kind heart and a general goodwill.

You hit the nail on the head. For all the kissing and lack of commitment over the years, Arie seems like a decent person, or at least knows how to behave (which I know sounds weird for someone on a reality show). He has his awkward moments, but at least he's not staring at his feet all the time (Nick), or insensitive (Juan Pablo), or giggling like a dolphin (Chris). It's clear he's had exposure to the world, either through his own racing career or as the child of a racing legend.

Of the final 4, I think Becca would be the most appealing to a wide audience. She's not out there but still bubbly in her own way, she's pretty, and she seems to be well-liked by the other women. Kendall (like Ashley Onion) would be fun for a certain subset of people but would turn off the rest, Lauren is way too reserved to be a lead, and Tia would be too much like Kaitlyn.

I don't know that I'd call most of them "a-ok" with the situation, as almost every single one I've ever seen has expressed at least some reservation. But as has been pointed out, these people are all adults. If they choose to put themselves in a situation where they're "dating" someone who's also "dating" a handful of other people, what else are parents supposed to do other than shrug and skeptically say, "well... if it's what you want..."? I actually think that's a healthier response than some kind of active disapproval of your grown-up kid's decisions that, in the end, aren't really hurting anyone, despite all the melodrama.

The actual agreeing to appear on the show is perhaps another level, but most of them do seem to be just trying to be supportive, even if they think the whole thing is a bit bizarre. The ones I find really famewhorey are the extra family members. Bringing this person home to meet your parents and siblings, and maybe one extra relative whom you're really close to doesn't seem unreasonable. When there are aunts and uncles, grandparents, cousins, etc. etc., it's a bit ridiculous, and those people's motivations for agreeing to be on are definitely a bit suspect.

I do agree, though, that it would be much better for hometowns (for both leads and contestants) to take place in their current hometowns, with people they actually spend time with on a regular basis. Maybe skip one of the fancy foreign locations to free up some budget to fly the parents in if required. But that to me makes way more sense than going back to a childhood home — or somewhere the person has never even lived, but where their parents happen to live now — that has nothing to do with their current life.

I wonder how many families are actively trying to sabotage their kids chances of "winning" the prize of being fake engaged to a guy who is "in love" with three other women, or just one and stringing the other two along. I'd be doing anything I could to chase away Arie or pretty much any of the bachelors/bachelorette's they've had so far. I don't consider any of them worthy of my imaginary children.

Finally watched the episode last night on Hulu and even without commercials, the show felt about 3 hours long. So dull.

What's the story with Lauren's parents, are they divorced or do they just have a shitty, lasting marriage? I know she mentioned that her parents' marriage is one of the reasons for her hesitancy in relationships, but there was a mom and a dad in the same house, so I wasn't sure what the status was.

Her dad actually seems like a relatively cool guy, but the sour puss on her mom seems permanently affixed. I don't think she cracked even close to a smile. I did enjoy her obvious skepticism of Arie's words though, she wasn't buying any of it.

The other dates are a big blur of nothing to me. I wasn't sorry to see Tia go and despite the big scene she made, I didn't spot an actual tear.

I don't have any interest in seeing any of these people as Bachelorette, I'm hoping they follow the more recent pattern of dipping into old seasons (Nick, Arie) and pull someone from a prior version.

Lauren's conversation with her mom brought out the jerk in me:

  • Lauren: "He's so much like me."
  • Me: "Empty and shallow?"
  • Lauren: "He could be sitting in a room full of fifteen girls, and I know exactly what he's thinking."
  • Me: "Nothing."
  • Mom: "And you think this could last a lifetime?"
  • Me: "Just a few months, but it will feel like a lifetime."
  • Mom: "I hope it lasts forever."
  • Me: "It won't."

And Chris Harrison was ever so helpful with Arie back at the mansion before the rose ceremony:

  • Chris: "How you feeling?"
  • Arie: "It's hard. Tonight's hard. It's the first time I've gone into this and really didn't have an idea."
  • Chris: "Then you really don't know what you're gonna do?"
  • Arie: "Yeah, I don't know what I'm gonna do."
  • Chris: "Good luck."

I can see why this show has such a lousy track record of success.

I know most people love the hometown dates, but I hate them and have to largely fast forward them. Sure it's always nice to "meet new people" and can be fun getting a peek at different home lives. And I guess TPTB may need them to happen because they couldn't sell the engagements if families hadn't even been met yet.

But it just seems mean spirited once families are included. Like it's taking the joke too far when they start trying to sell parents, siblings, friend and even children on the seriousness of these individual relationships.

i remember, in particular Andi bonding with Nick's awesome little sister and assuring her that she loved Nick or when any of the leads really go out of their way to assure a protective and skeptical parent that they do love and want to be with their child. Especially when we see that 'child' get sent home at the next ceremony.

And I don't like it when families are exploited for 'entertainment value'. The contestants may have signed up for it, but the famalies are mostly just trying to support their reality-tv/going child. Like Deans family. That was terrible.
