Maybe we aren't being shown, but it seems like the areas should be doused in sterile/antibiotics before suturing.

that dude in tlc/go with the brown gunk? Oi!

I was thinking about that. They would have to sterilize the area before closing the wound. They are squeezing out trapped bacteria all over the place, and then digging around in the mess with tools that get contaminated with the bacteria. If the bacteria remains, there's a potential for infection. Right?

I'm still thinking about that woman's symbiotic twin that was living on her shoulder. Dear god.

God help me for watching this show. There are bonus clips (listed as a show called "Dr. Pimple Popper This is Zit") on the TLC app that aren't all on YouTube.

As a beard lover, I was very disappointed at the forehead cyst guy shaving his beard. He went from ruggedly handsome to looking like a character in an Archie comic book.

His work "friends" are assholes.

He might have been ruggedly handsome if he had been one of the apostles.  I thought he was deflecting from the forehead bump with the scraggly beard.  Now it isn't necessary.  People can see what he actually looks like.

Problem is that now my eyes go directly to his yellow teeth rather than to the lump on his forehead. ?

I don't understand people who are worried that their lump may be cancer, so they try to ignore it as it gets larger. Do they think that cancer is just going to go away?

I'm confused about the episode that was on tonight, according to my Comcast guide, episode 2 is on Wednesday, so what was on today? Did they show one out of order?

Oh rats!  Did not notice that.  Does Dr. Lee's practice offer teeth whitening?  They could clean up doing total makovers!

Those teeth need a lot more than just whitening.  They are a mess and they are not just yellow. Some looked black or brown.

That poor woman with the dermatological condition really broke my heart. And that evil stepbitch her dad married with her head shaking and looking at her with disgust with her father just sitting there like an emotionless lump giving her no comfort. Word to dad, repeat after me: "Love me, love my child."

The knee cyst -- I understand not liking doctors or not being able to afford health care, but I would have been poking needles into that thing and draining it myself over the years, especially since it was so painful. (But I've cut off warts before and taken a nail clipper to skin tags, which isn't normal either.)

We knew there wasn't going to be an easy fix for that disease. Poor woman. It's shameful that she had seen doctors about it before and nobody helped. Or even offered steroid injections! God.

But you kept watching?  ;-)

You know it's going to be bad when the nurse gets out the basin instead of gauze to mop up. I was surprised it was so evenly white; usually these pockets of pus 'n stuff are yellowy to brown.

In his case it wasn't some poisonous bile but simply skin cells, which must have been a relief.  This show is like watching a train wreck, you want to look away but just can't.

This was the second episode. You have to watch the first one, in which a three-pound fatty lump was removed from a woman's shoulder!

The guy said he had the cyst since he was 12 or 13! He looked to be in his 50s! I'm all about a home surgery (ha!), so I'd be lancing and draining that thing monthly!

The woman with hidradenitis suppurativa needs to cut her father and his hateful wife out of her life. What awful people. I hope Dr. Lee consulted with a doctor in the woman's hometown to establish an ongoing treatment regimen. It wasn't clear to me if that happened.

Me too! And watching Dr. Lee on YouTube has been like an online course in Dermatology 801.

I also hope Dr. Lee is working with a doc in the HS woman's hometown. It is such a simple fix and I am really surprised no one thought to try it.

This is one show where I hope there are a couple After the Show episodes at the end of the season.

I love Dr. Lee. She has such a huge following not only because people love gross stuff but because her "bedside manner" is so empathetic and endearing. She was tearing up talking to the HS woman about her not having anyone to talk to and how alone she felt. She actually listens to patients.

I'm ashamed to admit how many of her YouTube videos I've watched lately in anticipation of this show.

I love Dr Lee! So happy that she has a new show for all of us popaholics!

I probably shouldn’t say this, but I had to suppress a giggle when the lady with the huge milia on her eye said she would be embarrassed if it smelled...is she not embarrassed to appear on TV without teeth? ?

I know, y’all. There’s a special place in hell for people like me. I do honestly wish her and all of the patients well.

I will save you a seat right next to me, I was thinking the exact same thing.  Also, she kind of gave me a Kim Richards vibe.. I am just dumbfounded that she was so uncomfortable with the chicken mcnugget growing off her eyelid than she was about being a toothless person.  You can get a set of dentures ( albeit cheap ones ) for like 399.00 - heck I will mail her some Polident.

The river of cottage cheese flowing from that guys leg was OMG... But I am like a couple of posters above, have a needle, a match to sterilize the end and I would be poking and prodding myself before it got too big.

That poor girl and that disease, I can't imagine what she must go through and the chronic pain & embarrassment.  Her step mother was a twatwaffle and her father was not much better, she probably would be better off cutting them out of her life.  Hopefully she is getting treatments to help her.

It looks like I'm watching the show you guys are watched a few hours ago (with the skin disease, the mega cyst, and eye thing).

I've barely heard of this show/doctor. I haven't seen her on YT. I'm trying to understand why these people come across the country to see her? The guy had a big cyst - wouldn't an experienced dermatologist anywhere be able to realize what was going on? The skin condition seemed bad, and I realize she hadn't gotten much help, but I wonder if she'd gone to a research hospital? The eye thing - why not go to a local eye surgeon? Even if you had to travel to the big hospital in your state, it seems it would be easier than going to California for a dermatologist.

I admit I may be spoiled working at a research university and auditing human subjects research. I do see the top practitioners in their fields, but dang, there are excellent doctors around the country. I don't think I'd travel as these people have to get a cyst removed from my eye (nor would I have let it get that big before seeing somebody, but that's me).

Can anyone tell me what Dr Lee's 'draw' is? Why do these people bypass the research facilities and specialists closer to home? For the show, are they getting their surgery paid for?

I'm only watching because I was too lazy to turn the channel and got mesmerized by the guy's leg bump and wanted to see what it was. I see a lot of stuff in my job, but I had to throw my hands over my face with that one. Jeez Louise!

Holy crap! I think Ronen (the leg guy) lives near me. He had his awkward staged date at the Station House! I know that place. It's in Forest Hills (Queens, NY) right next to the LIRR train station within walking distance from the Forest Hill Stadium where I saw Roger Daltrey perform last month. It's a popular gastro pub with an amazing fried cookie dough dessert. I guess it kind of makes sense if he's a flight attendant. We're not very far from JFK.

That being said, yeah, don't mention giant cyst thing on the first date. Or mention it once and don't bring it up again.

A lot of these people have tried to get help from other doctors, but didn’t have their issues fixed. Some don’t have the money to see a doctor, so going on a show is a way to get medical help for free.

RE that thing on the blonde woman’s eyelid:  I had a much smaller growth right on my upper eyelash line. (It wasn’t a milia like this woman had, though.)  My dermatologist said that since it was so close to my eye that she thought I should see someone more specialized. She referred me to an ocular plastic surgeon.  (The Ocular plastic surgeon removed it with local anesthetic in one visit and I didn’t even lose any eyelashes.)  I was very concerned watching Dr. Lee remove it  since she is just a dermatologist.  I guess it worked out for the lady, but I was worried for her.

Was it cruel of the producers to make the forehead knob guy wait and fly to LA from NH again just to tell him he didn't have cancer? He was pretty anxious about it and most practices just call patients to relay negative biopsy results. As a viewer, I would've been just as happy to see a follow-up of him and Dr. Lee on the phone.

But that could be my own loathing of flying talking.

I was going to say that I'm sure that they gave him the good results over the phone and just paid for his airfare so they could film his reaction. However, his nervousness seemed authentic and his relieved reaction even more so! He was incredibly handsome without the beard--thought I think he could also have looked great with a well trimmed beard.

I can't believe how much I enjoyed this. I am a popaholic who has watched her videos countless times, but I was surprised how much I was interested in the back stories. It really is amazing how much of an impediment and emotional burden skin conditions can be.

It's interesting (and frustrating) that most of the people (so far, anyway--I've only watched two episodes) seem to be from a lower socioeconomic status. I guess those of us blessed with decent insurance would rather have our growths removed off camera. I believe for the youtube videos, Dr. Lee does not charge for the extractions/removals, because she is filming them. I bet there is a similar deal here--plus people get flown to California and put up in a hotel.

I love Dr. Lee and think she does a world of good, plus she is the perfect balance of professionalism and warm bedside manner. One thing I wish she would change--when she says "Make sure I'm not hurting you" and "I'm not hurting you, right?" If I were her patient that would make me feel like I couldn't complain. I wish she would say, "Am I hurting you?" -- This is probably a sign that I have watched her videos far too many times.

She does other treatments. She's mentioned on some of her videos that she does mohs procedures, which is the procedural treatment for basal cell carcinoma. But that's not interesting for people to watch.

Her husband is also a dermatologist.

They mentioned that the lady's mother died when she was 13, and her father married his second wife about 4 months later.  For TLC to mention that so many years after the event, and seeing the parents' total lack of compassion about the lady's situation . . . she was obviously emotionally damaged.  And she has a successful job, and a child - but no husband or boyfriend was shown.  Yep.  There was a whole lot more to that backstory than we saw on the show.

She seemed like she would benefit from a therapist.  She needs to be told that she IS a worthwhile human being.

I did get bummed out when I realized that if we had a better healthcare system in the United States none of these people would have to wait until they were disfigured and then go on a TV show to get their dermatological problems fixed.

Especially since many of the dermatological problems prevent them from working and paying taxes to support a health care for all system.

I have always been a picker, but I didn't want to watch a show about someone's zits being popped.  This isn't like that at all.  These patients have really interesting symptoms, and it's not like pimples.  It's too bad that they didn't give the show a better, more descriptive name, but I can't imagine what that could be.  I hope they get enough viewers to keep the show on the air because it's valuable and educational.  I bet there are plenty of people who have conditions like these and thought there was nothing to be done about them.

I'm not crazy about Dr. Lee and her personality, but she really seems to know what she's doing, and I think her concern for her patients is genuine.  I hope there will be followups on patients who have a recurring type of condition.  I was glad to know that the young woman with the awful, painful lesions in her armpits and on her torso was introduced to someone else with the condition, but I want to know how long the steroid injections are effective and if there is any other treatment for that dreadful disease.

I agree. Something like "More Than Skin Deep." The thing is, "Dr. Pimple Popper" has a huge following on social media. Nearly 4 million youtube followers; I don't know about Facebook and Insta, but I think the name was pretty important to gaining an audience.

She also does an amazing job removing big lipomas and cysts. A friend of mine just had a golf ball-sized lipoma removed from his back and the doctor left him with a huge, multi-direction scar with huge stitches. Dr. Lee would have taken that thing out a two inch incision and left him with a nicely, single thread stitch.  They don't show her full technique on the show, but they do on her YouTube videos. I have a big lipoma on my upper thigh and am so tempted to go to California to get her to work on it (NOT ON TLC CAMERA!).

I'm only about 45 minutes away and I thought about going to see her because I have some small milia around my eyes and my dermatologist won't remove them because they are not big enough to be a problem and too close to my eyes for her comfort.  They bug me though because some are right where my eyeliner goes so even if they are not that noticeable I feel like they make my eyeliner look bad.  I've seen her do milia near eyes on her youtube channel, so I feel like it's something she wouldn't have a problem doing, unlike my doctor, and it being free it taped for youtube was a bonus.  Now that she's so popular on youtube and is on TV, I'm betting it's a lot harder to get in and my humdrum milia wouldn't make the cut.  I removed the biger ones myself, which was probably dumb and ill-advised.  I think also her caring demeanor and calming prattle make people who are afraid feel safe, so some people who have put off going to the doctor because they are afraid think it is worth it to travel to see her.  I just talked about using a scalpel on my own eyelid, so the afraid part doesn't really apply to me.

I hope you can get some help with your milia.  I'd go to Dr. Lee is I were close enough.

I had a small white mole or skin tag on my eyelid until I was about 30 years old.  I went to a new ophthalmologist and after doing routine exam, she asked if I wanted to get it removed.  I was taken aback, because, I never really considered it.  It had been there since I was a teen.  I said sure and she numbed it quickly and just snipped it off in 5 seconds.  It has never returned.  I was so relieved.  I didn't realize how much it bothered me until it didn't. lol  It looked like the one in this link.

I do have sympathy for people, but, why didn't the lady who had one side larger than the other pick a different style dress, if she didn't want to showcase her larger left side?  If you have a misshaped body part, then, get a flowing dress to camouflage the larger side.  Not everyone can wear a form fitted, sparkly gown.  Her breakdown in the fitting room was just so overdone. Not a fan of that. And then to say that she couldn't wear anything pretty......I don't get why not. Odd. And, why didn't see get the fat lump on the left side removed too? Why just the fat on the left thigh?  Odd.

The scary part is that any of us could get these various bumps and lumps at anytime.  There seems to be no real rhyme or reason behind why it happens.

I do think it's odd that regarding the white mole that I had on my eyelid years ago, that I had removed......my maternal grandmother had one just like it.

Yep, I thought that Mary ^^ as mom of bride anyway just needed a super flowy gown for the big day. Ball gown style maybe? Tight-ish on top but way loose & tons of fabric on the skirt. It was a weird disease/disorder that she had tho.

brandy from Cincinnati ended up rather scared. She needed a friend with her to hold her hand. I was hoping her scar was going to be closer to her armpit.

I agree a sympathetic friend might have helped. Strictly from a medical perspective, Brandy received worse care than someone like the shoulder lipoma guy who took everything in stride. Brandy being anxious, shaking, wanting to change her mind, and saying she might vomit caused Dr. Lee to rush and close before she was positive she had removed all of the mass.

Regarding the woman who gained weight on one side of her body -- it was an interesting condition to see but wasn't dermatological in nature. She had gotten liposuction before and I assume that helped, but she gained weight again. Watching fat being sucked out doesn't really make for TV that "pops" and we sure didn't hear Dr. Lee offer to do any more free treatments.

I hope the show moves away from lipoma town.
