photo fox May 6, 2014 Share May 6, 2014 Christina was back and looking fab; Cee Lo was back and looking drab. Plus, the Twitter save began. Somebody give me a catchy subtitle, and I'll edit the topic. Link to comment
Lily Adler May 6, 2014 Share May 6, 2014 Okay unpopular opinion here, but I thought Christina was unfairly criticized in how she handled Matthew. I knew many on TWoP who wanted him to take on more alternative songs since that's what appeared to be his genre of choice based on his Blind Audition. Then Christina and him took a chance on Imagine Dragons-a safe choice with a slight alternative edge but still pop friendly-and then bam he gets eliminated (I think it was after this song). I remember the intense criticism she got for that choice and blaming her for his "apparent downslide to mediocrity" on that board. I thought it was uncalled for cause he was still a major frontrunner based on his previous performances such as Hallelujah and Beneath Your Beautiful. It just showed that one song choice can really sink you on these competition shows. If Christina had to be criticized for anything, it would be on Jacquie. I liked her pre-Lives and then her style started to reminisce to Christina's style. A problem many have with vocal coaches is that the coach will unconsciously teach their pupil their own preferred singing style rather than help them develop their own unique one. 1 Link to comment

treebyleaf May 7, 2014 Share May 7, 2014 I think Matthew just burned out. He was oversinging, then I think he may have gotten sick -- you could see how drastically different his performances were when he went from full energy to half energy. But I remember the week he was eliminated one of the issues was that he tweeted out the wrong hashtag to his supporters. So it may not have really been his time to go. 2 Link to comment
Lily Adler May 8, 2014 Share May 8, 2014 (edited) I have bittersweet relationship with this season. It was the season that was the downward spiral of the appeal of Cee Lo as a coach, the major comeback for Christina and Adam as coaches, and the downfall of Blake's winning streak. I'm rather conflicted with Tessanne winning over Jacquie because even though I thought Tessanne's voice was gorgeous but typical and Jacquie's became thin and shrill, I didn't like Adam winning. It showed that only Blake and Adam can win this show and it definitely creates a negative and predictable Blind Auditions, especially when it comes to four chair turns. Everyone will want to go for Adam or Blake now cause they've won before leaving other coaches such as Shakira, Usher, Cee Lo, Christina, and surely Gwen and Pharell at a disadvantage. Also I don't like how Cee Lo became the less favorable choice as a coach this season. I know he had personal issues (that's putting it mildly), but it was as if no one wanted to pick him. It drove me crazy because Team Cee Lo did pretty well in the competition (i.e. Juliet Simms, Jamar Rogers, Vicci Martinez, Nicholas David, Trevin Hunte), but suddenly he was no longer a good choice. I think the break from Season 4 hurt him in the end. Edited May 8, 2014 by Lily Adler Link to comment
sweetcookieface April 19, 2015 Share April 19, 2015 I found myself watching some random Season 5 videos on youtube today and felt motivated to post. Season 5 is, hands down, my favorite season of The Voice. It's the one where I felt the most invested, and ended up re-watching performances on youtube over and over again. I think what I love about it is that there were so many contestants who had standout moments and could have, under certain circumstances, won. Matt Schuler remains, for me, probably the best contestant The Voice has ever had (I've listened to "Cosmic Love," "Wrecking Ball" and "Cough Syrup" over and over again), but there were also some incredible moments from Tessanne ("Redemption Song" & "Underneath It All"), Caroline ("As Long As You Love Me," "We're Going to Be Friends"), Will ("When I Was Your Man," "Radioactive"), James ("Love Interruption"), Cole ("Let Her Go"), and others (I wasn't a big Jacquie fan). Even some of the contestants who were cut relatively early left their mark (e.g., Preston with "Electric Feel"). Is anyone else a big Season 5 fan? 1 Link to comment
Sammich63 April 19, 2015 Share April 19, 2015 Season 5 is by far my favorite season . My all time favorite is Cole, but I also love James, Caroline and Matthew. The season finale was spectacular! The contestants were close and very talented. Link to comment
Kcat1971 April 27, 2015 Share April 27, 2015 Another Season 5 Fan here! I am a huge Will Champlin fan. But there were so many good performers that season. My husband who is not a regular voice watcher still mentions Caroline every once in a while. 1 Link to comment
TheGreenKnight April 28, 2015 Share April 28, 2015 This was my least favorite season (2nd worst would be 7). The only thing I had to be invested in was rooting for a Christina win, because I didn't like Tessanne, Jacquie, or Will, and couldn't take Matthew or Cole at all. Top it off with an Adam win, and the whole thing was unbearable to watch. The only thing I moderately liked about this year was Caroline. It's too bad she came too late in the series to have a chance with Cee Lo. Link to comment
dbell1 April 28, 2015 Share April 28, 2015 Still bitter about season 5 here. And still a huge Cole Vosbury fan. Cee Lo phoned it in and Blake tossed him under a country bus. 1 Link to comment
