The exact exchange was:

Joy: May I just say that Al Franken is the only one who spoke out against Jeff Sessions, and then all of a sudden these allegations came up, right after that. So I'm a little bit suspicious of what's going on right now.

Meghan: (talking over Joy) So do you think Leeann Tweeden, who came on, wasn't really being candid?

Joy: (talking over Meghan) I am not accusing her. Don't put words in my mouth. I am not accusing Leeann of anything. All I'm saying is, it's interesting. That's all.

Perhaps a more open-ended question, if Meghan wanted to follow this line of questioning, would have been, "So what do you think happened behind the scenes?" rather than going for one yes-or-no question that was phrased like a GOTCHA moment.

It was over so quickly,, less than two minutes before they went to another commercial, no time for what I call a good discussion.

Joys had worse, she can take it...Meghan was pissed because it came across that this was a set up. I get both sides. Eight women though? Guilty of groping?

Tom Arnold, who is a friend of Leeann Tweeden's, has been tweeting about it a lot lately.  "I’m disappointed with my friend Leeann Tweedon. Her partner at KABC John Phillips is a Roger Stone pal & they coached her for weeks to bring Al Franken down."

"I’m #MeToo & don’t doubt any other woman but the Leeann Tweeden-John Phillips-Roger Stone lies & set up of Al Franken were part of a larger smear campaign against Al initiated at the same time Leeann came out at KABC. I have proof. Leeann knows it. It’s a disservice to victims."

"Just got off the phone with my old friend @LeeannTweeden & here’s what i now know. She didn’t know Roger Stone was involved until after he tweeted about Franken’s “time in the Barrel” Hannity saw the pic in 2007 & begged her to show it but she wasn’t comfortable."

"with pal Hannity’s support of Roy Moore which is why she hasn’t done show. She was shocked when i read Roger Stone dirty tricks Franken smear emails.Surprised that folks at KABC shared her Franken story before she did.Never wanted Al fired.Relieved others came forward."

What about the other women, he was accused eight times? They said that on the show, the above wasn't!

Whatever is driving the good mood between Whoopi and MM as of late is making the show watchable.  Wonder what gives?

My guess is MMs dissatisfaction with Trump on the last 2 shows is helping.  She did a bit of a turn around and I think her dad is responsible.  I have a hunch he talked to her.

I think there was maybe 20 minutes of real discussion on this show today. The rest was commercial upon commercial, a plug for a toy robot (which looked totally stupid), and a plug for Disney's Descendant's TV show and gingerbread house or whatever they were talking about. I'm not sure I've seen a show lately that has so many commercials. There's no way I would watch this live. Thank goodness for DVRs, although I'm losing interest with all of the interruptions, even using fast forward.

On a totally different subject -- did anyone get the "secret word of the day" for Thursday? That part of the show was preempted for the Al Franken Very Sad Thing. Thank you in advance.

Today's secret word was EGGNOG.  Good luck, CC!

I'm not thick, but why would he be relieved? Imho nobody was lying, or setting him up, if there wasn't a photo, who knows, maybe he wouldn't have stepped down .He was a good senator my girlfriend has said, but she wasn't happy with the accusations.

Perhaps I'm just reading this phrase differently. but since Tom Arnold was quoting Leeann Tweeden, my understanding was that he meant SHE  (Leeann) was "relieved others came forward" so that she wasn't seen as the lone accuser and, thus, wasn't solely responsible for bringing Franken down.

If you take another look and fill in the assumed pronoun [She], it makes sense in that context:

Quote

"with pal Hannity’s support of Roy Moore which is why she hasn’t done show. She was shocked when i read Roger Stone dirty tricks Franken smear emails. [She was] Surprised that folks at KABC shared her Franken story before she did.  [She] Never wanted Al fired.  [She was] Relieved others came forward."

The commercial breaks are really getting ridiculous. Whoopi is awkward enough with her segues to commercials, but with, I assume, a producer screaming in her ear to go to commercial, it's been worse lately as she's been barging into discussions to tell everyone they are going to a break.

And, for what it's worth, the View Store "commercial", must be considered part of the show, as CTV never shows previews for shows or other ABC-related content, but we got to see Sara and Sunny plug stuff yesterday.

And speaking of horrible editing/cuts on this show, did y'all notice those weird shots of The View background they kept cutting to one day earlier in the week.  Really lame production values for a show in it's 21st(?) season.

I agree with Sara - everyone deserves to be heard when it comes to sexual assault and the accusers deserve to defend themselves, especially if there is proof that it did or didn't happen.

"We need to put this in context"- really, Paula? I would be disgusted if someone I worked for asked me to bear his children. Context doesn't matter, that's creepy and inappropriate. Get all of these creeps out of office.

Megan got it wrong, in regard to, Mika Brzezinsky and her comments about the Franken accuser. It was not salacious and disrespectful, in my opinion.   It was thought-provoking about the climate that we are in currently about sexual misconduct.  It echoed, what Sarah said about evaluating, each accusation, judiciously.  Megan made it about her being a Republican and being in Playboy.  I bet you, she saw it, on a certain channel and used their spin, to make her statements, today, about Mika.

Love what Meghan said about not caring if a woman is a porn star, sexual assault is just that. The past , or lifestyle has nothing to do with it. Meghan in Playboy, she looked great!

Paula is on, yes! Was Joy still trying to defend Franken?? They are talking over one another...

She was very defensive about being in Playboy. I don't understand why her party gave her backlash for being in Playboy. Okay she talked about sex. She had her clothes on though. I mean I understand why because they're supposedly the party of "family values" but it's silly.

I agree with Sara when she says everyone needs to be heard, both the accusers and accused. Every woman here knows it happens, but if you think false or exaggerated accusations won't be used to take down political opponents, you are naive. I totally believe that happened with Franken. He was right in his statement that it's ironic that he goes down with Trump and Moore being what they are.

I really enjoy Joy as the moderator, and will miss Sara when she goes on maternity leave. I'm assuming her sweater today showed her due date?

Soon this show will consist of Whoopie screaming "welcome to The View" and ads Monday through Thursday, and then, just an hour of ads on Friday.

Isn't it terrible, I record it, and you can run through this show PDQ!

I never saw Sara's due date( on her sweater someone said )

Speaking of ads on this show, what the hell was that Restylane promo at the end of the show and why was it disguised as a medical interview?  That's just truly insulting to the audience.  Do they really think we can't see how obvious it is?  Besides, I do believe they've slipped that little nugget in at least once before.  Did it ring a bell for anyone else?

I wish Joy were the permanent moderator. Asks good questions, makes funny jokes and doesn’t play favorites towards any of the other co-hosts. That will never happen while Whoopi is still a permanent fixture on the show, of course.

Sara's due date is Dec 26.  Poor kid, I have a December birthday too.  Not the optimal month.

I kept wondering why she was so excited about Boxing Day. It was confusing, because I don't think Americans have that day. Now that I know it's her due date it makes a lot more sense.

I think they took Mika Brezinski’s comments completely out of context and chose the part of her point that could be seen as the most sensationalized comment.  During Mika’s whole discussion she talked about the New Yorker article about policing sex, and like Whoopi she and Joe were concerned about the allegations about the photos since they too have had to take thousands of pictures with fans.  The part she showed, they were just discussing an article in the Washington Post where the author argues that the democrats reaction to Al Franken was an overreaction and that Franken was almost paying for the sins of Bill Clinton because there are more blurry areas in Franken’s allegations.  Mika was saying that they didn’t really discuss that first accuser, Leeann Tweeden, who was on Hannity, posed for playboy and the more important point has many other salacious photos from the USO tours with other celebrities.  What Mika didn’t mention is that Roger Stone knew about the story before it leaked and Tweeden is a friend of Don Jr. and they have many back and forth friendly tweets with one another going back from 2011.  Like Mika, I’m all for the “Me Too” movement, but Mika was concerned about these allegations, not because she’s party first—she was disgusted with Bill Clinton back in the 90s and she believes Mark Halperins accusers, who was actually her personal friend and worked on Morning Joe—but because she worries “Me Too” is no longer about sexual harassment in the work place and its now focusing on more gray areas that could lead to a policing of sex.  I think there are a lot of regular people who probably agree with what Mika is saying and I feel the media is kind of afraid to have Brezinski’s conversation because they are afraid of being called out for “slut shaming” or “victim blaming.”

That’s what it seemed like many of The View cohosts made her comments out to be... I think they took one out of context comment and simplified her entire discussion.  Mika wished the democratic senators were more overt with why they were calling for his resignation — that photo was politically damaging.  But it did annoy me that they took her point out of context and I hope Mika calls them out for it.

So what does everyone do on that day? It is not clear to me what happens.

I turned it on late, saw Sunny talking about toilet paper (LOL) and at first thought there were only 4 co-hosts. Then I saw Paula there in the middle, and proceeded to turn off the tv.  I really just don't like her. It's not hate, but actually worse in a way, because I just don't like watching/listening to her at all.

I saw Sara's sweater, but didn't notice the date. Boxing Day is one of the UK traditions we kept in Canada. It used to be the biggest shopping day of the year, but now that we do Black Friday sales, Boxing Day isn't so special anymore.  Some parts of Canada actually keep stores closed on the 26th, with the big sales starting on the 27th, so families do get a 2nd day recover from all that turkey. LOL.

Another example is talking about the picture of Al pretending he might grab  the wronged first accuser in  addition they  should have shown  videos of her jumping up and straddling Robin Williams then patting his rear., and grabbing / rubbing country western singers  butt.  Show the actual skit  kiss picture which had been done in many USO  tours of Al's with other female entertainers.   She stated on the show she  had  to wash  her mouth out immediately and  that her fists would ball up when ever she sees him for 10 years.  There's happy picture of her with Al at a USO honoring him in 2009.  So Sara she may have seemed credible that day but hopefully the investigation will come up with facts

If they  can't  cover something fully because they  have crap to sell is so frustrating.     I don't believe in Karma as there are too many evil people slithering  thru this life untouched

When  MM didn't answer Sunny whether she thought this would have an effect on Moore's election it would have been a perfect opportunity to explain why her people will still vote for him .  crickets

I volunteer weekly with a non profit that gives immediate aid to sexual assault victims,  why does  this leave a bad taste in my mouth?

I apologize to some women, but I will not automatically believe every woman who claims sexual harassment or sexual assault--even sexual insult, just as a step to some sort of reparation.  I have seen too many instances of women who lie to their families, the courts, their attorneys, the press to get their way as far as child custody, divorce, restraining orders, etc.  There are women who cry rape when none occurred--and later recant.  There's also that word: revenge.  It's dangerous to adopt a sexual-harassment policy where every woman's claim is believed and the man's life must be destroyed.     (I wish someone would explain this to Sara Haines.)

Just because we have been told for a hundred years not to worry our pretty little heads, not to make waves, and not to damage our careers or others' in the past doesn't mean we lose sight of the fact that claims should be taken seriously while investigated--but investigated honestly!

Disclaimer?  I have been sexually insulted, harassed AND assaulted.  I don't mean mere raunchy comments or attempts at sexual humor.  They're not insulting...just stoopid.

Amen, Formernun and GScorpiosrule!

Joy actually ASKS the other ladies what THEY  think, after introducing a topic, and then listens, cracks a joke, or responds briefly.

 She is my hero.

OTOH, MM  annoys me for alot of reasons,  but I realized that it's incongruous for someone so young, inexperienced, and less knowledgeable to act like she is an authority---on anything.  And fucking annoying.

MM is the daughter of a senator and former presidential candidate, with VERY brief stints on other "news" shows, and she "wrote" a book about....um, um ? .... herself .

So, on Friday, why was MM talking so much about being in Playboy ...clothed....and then trying to shut the conversation down because her MIL watches the show?  It's a little late to act modest.

So yeah, why should I listen to her about anything?  Go away, MM.

Sunny is super smart;  Sara is sweet;  and Whoops is......an EGOT,  but not good in this role.
