SunnyBeBe 26.1k May 12, 2018 This show looks to be amazing. I just saw preview on AMC tv. Here's a link on it that explains the premise. I'm really intrigued. I've never seen anything quite like it on tv. http://www.amc.com/shows/dietland 1 Share this post Link to post

icemiser69 10.4k June 13, 2018 The ratings for this series are absolutely horrible, and down from last week. The third episode was available On Demand before AMC aired it, so I am hoping that is why the ratings dropped from the first two episodes. But even the first two episodes ratings weren't all that great to begin with. I just hope AMC lets the rest of the episodes air on tv. Edited June 13, 2018 by icemiser69 Share this post Link to post

Lousy ratings could be due partially to the idiotically haphazard scheduling of the show. I recorded (so I can ff through commercials) and watched the first 2-hour debut and then found the third on demand and watched that right after. This week they "aired" that 3rd episode which was available to watch a week ago. If they can't get their shit together to air this like a regular series they are definitely going to have terrible ratings. 1 Share this post Link to post

Dietland isn't the type of show that normally airs on AMC, so I would suspect that is part of the problem. Another part of the problem is the cartoonish nature that takes up too much air time of a season that is ten episodes long. Plus, Plum is still a very one dimensional human being. We don't get much of her backstory. The only two other likable characters are Steven and Plum's mom. That other dude that works at the bakery/eatery type place maybe okay, but it is too early to tell. After watching the first two episodes, I am not shocked that the ratings are bad. I expected it. The third episode wasn't that much better. Parts of it were worse, like Plum's withdrawal from anti-depressants. The hallucinations were ridiculous. I will watch this series until the end, but I seriously doubt that it will last past the ten episodes. Edited June 14, 2018 by icemiser69 Share this post Link to post
SunnyBeBe 26.1k June 26, 2018 This says that Joy Nash weights almost 300 pounds! I had no idea. She doesn't look that large to me. http://www.newsweek.com/2018/06/08/dietland-joy-nash-marti-noxon-amc-show-947383.html 1 Share this post Link to post

I'm not going to even watch the sneak peak. I'll just let the full episode ruin my day. 1 Share this post Link to post

I'll just let the full episode ruin my day. AMC just renewed a couple of their other shows (Fear the Walking Dead, and Better Call Saul). AMC renewed BCS even though they haven't aired this season yet. BCS comes back next week. I haven't heard anything about a renewal for Dietland. I won't say it can't happen, I was shocked that they renewed FTWD. FTWD did have a cast shake up. The problem with Dietland is that after nine episodes the ratings are still dropping. Kitty really wants to talk to someone who can speak for Jennifer. What do you think about the possibility of Kitty and Plum coming face-to-face on this new playing field? That would be really, really interesting. That would be really cool. I can’t even imagine how that would go. Their power dynamic was so different, at least before with Kitty having all the power and Plum none of it. It would be interesting to see them on a more interesting playing field. I feel like this is such an interesting jumping-off point. We’ve passed [the events of] the book. We’re off the map. Here there be dragons. I’m just excited to see where it’ll all go — if and when we get another chance to do it. From the interview you posted. It's really hard for me to believe that Nash really thinks it would be interesting to see Plum and Kitty come face to face. I'm not sure what Kitty might actually do, (she seems to be planning something criminal) but, maybe, she and Plum could share a prison cell. That's about all I would care to see of the two of them. 2 Share this post Link to post
icemiser69 10.4k July 31, 2018 I don't know what power Plum has now. I just don't. The vast majority of this series she has been acting like a scared rabbit. No offense to rabbits, they are cute, soft, and cuddly. I must be totally missing something about this series. I get the feeling that this is supposed to be some "diamond" of a series about empowerment. After watching all ten episodes, all I get out of it is a lump of "coal" of a sad sack character that really hasn't hardened (or grown) at all from the first episode. All of the pressure she has put herself under and she is still the same lump of "coal" with no signs of becoming a "diamond". Edited July 31, 2018 by icemiser69 2 Share this post Link to post
SunnyBeBe 26.1k August 1, 2018 I found this review of the season to be about as encouraging as possible without being laughable. She points out the problems, but, is pretty kind with her criticism. https://consequenceofsound.net/2018/07/amcs-dietland-aimed-wide-and-mostly-hit-its-marks-in-a-chaotic-first-season/ Share this post Link to post
