Molly & Luis: My Baby Does the Sanky Panky

Meanwhile Kensley just sat there scowling with her lap covered in ice cream and Molly sat on her ass and said, "Hel-loooo! Luis!" and when she finally got his attention, she basically ordered him to be the Cleanup Police  because that was what a father would do.

And really, Molly, if both parents are present, that's what a mother would do in most cases.  Should some 24-year-old male stranger (and a disliked one at that) be attending to your daughter's dress and lap?

With this large caveat out of the way, I'll put it out there that I believe Luis is showing signs of mental illness.

He went from "wow toilets and electricity" to:

"You have the period, everything you say is crazy right now. Almost 90% is lie, incomprehensible. Here I just saw Buddha, I see every sh!t on the living room down, never see one Bible here. I never one something about god here, hmmmm? You know witchcraft? You understand that or you wanna understand. The hell say and the demons every time with angels the diamond is mean nothing. It's art! Why she have a lot of Buddha here, a lot of things with candles? The bird, why? That is something bad here? There is only two things, it's god or it's demon. The people have to understand that."

"Answer this question, just this one. Why you have a lot of Buddha and why you don't have anything that mean you save you spirit about god here?" Molly, exasperated, shows him some crosses and tells him she does have bibles. But the continues to prattle non sequiturs: "I never see anything about god, why? You have every demon about the house."

She points out his sins, he grins, unnervingly relaxed, and tells her "I like these things, very much."

Molly screeches "I'm losing my mind" - no dear, you are dealing with a mentally ill individual. He smiles. "Finished? Are you finished?"

She had found him on top of the bed sprawled out like an unruly teen. His affect is completely abnormal the entire time. And that the end, he sticks his tongue out, and he laughs so casually as to sound demented. Molly can make excuses because of his upbringing - but I don't have to. He's probably going to get worse.

Deep down Molly probably realizes that she made a colossal mistake, but, sunk costs. She put her story on TV, applied for his visa, prepped her kids a bit, his family is coming, a wedding is planned. Backing out is too overwhelming.

I predict this will be the shortest marriage on the show. "Like, I'm not here to take care of YOU. 'Make me a sandwich, make me some chicken, I don't like that chicken, I don't like this barber, that barber...'" that's going to get old fast, especially given that she is expecting Luis to take care of her, her kids, call her beautiful, etc.

I have felt for some time now that he's got narcissistic personality disorder.  It's what Mr. Funky's ex-boss had (he was from Brazil).  He would cause arguments that didn't have anything to do with the current situation, frequently back-up his ranting behavior with religion (yet he fooled around on his wives and all of them left him in due time and he drank heavily), and would then try to turn it around on the person he was arguing with, making them look like the bad person (ignore my porn and strippers and heavy drinking, it's all about you and your witchcraft).  He would also frequently scream about people disrespecting him, all the while not giving respect to anyone in order to receive it back.  If Luis had this argument the first week he was there, then I'd believe 100% that he was spooked by his beliefs, but he's been there for 3 months.  No way he didn't see all of this prior and it should have been brought up sooner.  I agree with the post above who said he's gaslighting.  Big time.

It would have been appropriate if Molly asked Luis to "please go get a bunch of napkins" so she and Kensley herself could take care of the cleanup. Instead she sat there barking orders at Luis like he was a servant and making comments about how a father would handle the situation. Luis's dislike of Kensley is palpable.

I live in NJ, not the Caribbean, and am well aware of Santería, Voodoo and the Obeah man, but I think Luis was looking for a way out, and that his detonating last night had nothing to do with Jesus on her toilet bowl not being enough, Mary in a birdcage or whatever.

Luis is immature and gross.  But shrieking Molly is just as bad.   And why she went through with this marriage is really questionable.  I look forward to seeing their marriage progress.....will we get more followup???!

So that preview of next week, with them showing Luis leaving the house with his suitcase, and the talking head with Molly, the interviewer asks "doesn't Luis have to go back to the DR because his visa is expired now?" And Molly looks very sheepish...I have a feeling that stupid cow already married this dirty douchenozzle off camera. Mark thy words...

My ex wasn't the least bit religious, either. But anything he thought had to do with the voodoo stuff completely freaked him out. I didn't understand it either, until after doing quite a bit of research (by necessity), it finally sunk in why he was reacting the way he was. It's difficult for us to fathom, and it appears as if Luis is being hypocritical, but this stuff is a huge part of the culture, and very deeply ingrained. It doesn't make sense to us. It doesn't have to. Now, because my ex was raised in the US, his command of the English language was far better than Luis', so he was able to express himself and his feelings about this much better than Luis. But I absolutely understood where Luis was coming from, despite his inability to express it in a way Molly was able to understand.

I get all of that. In fact, I have a BA in Cultural Anthropology and a MA in World Religions so these are kind of my areas of interest. However, in Luis' case, I believe that he is just using "religion" as a way to gaslight Molly and emotionally abuse her.

For one thing, his rant on religion came from out of nowhere and was a diversion tactic to get her to stop talking about what an asshole he's been to her girls. Turning the subject around to complain about the person who has a legitimate concern is Asshole 101. I think he chose religion because, with all of Molly's Tuesday Morning best, it was easy for him to play the Satanic card.

Then there were his physical reactions:laughing at her, sticking his tongue out, smiling...

These were not the legitimate concerns and questions from a man who was truly suffering from the fear of numerous voodoo relics; this was a reaction from a man who was cornered and wanted to lash out in the best way he knows how-by creating drama and baiting others.

And even if he WAS actually upset at what he deemed to be evil relics in her house? That still excuses none of the behavior he exhibited in her bedroom in this episode, nor does it excuse the inappropriate way he's spoken to Olivia or to Molly's brother about her.

Saying "It's just an owl!" does not change beliefs ingrained over a lifetime. These voodoo religions are very frightening to those raised in the countries that practice them. It's serious stuff

Like you, Twirly, we have (had)Caribbean spouses in common.  My husband is from a town in Puerto Rico that’s big on Carnival, and I wondered why people were wearing these papier máché masks that looked scary.  Some were high art, while others looked like ghouls. My husband said it was basically now just a regional tradition someand family fun, but their original purpose was to scare evil spirits away.  But voodoo is something he says is still practiced on his island and spells and hexes (putting the mojo on someone) is not the stuff of fantasy.  They DO take that stuff seriously., even though it’s more prevalent on other islands.

I don’t know if he ever knew anyone personally who engaged it, but they are all very aware of it. I do remember one home improvement show, where a designer brought some mini replicas if the masks for decorations outside, and the lady  lost her shit.  She said her husband wouldn’t approve of anything demonic. The designer and the couple were all Puerto Rican, so she understood where they were coming from,  Those identifying as evangelical don’t want that stuff around them. Even people who aren’t religious find voodoo creepy. The masks don’t bother me, but I’d certainly not want someone practicing santeria under my roof. To each their own, but that’s not for me.

Even though Mambo Gladys was one of the best names ever, her voodoo palace creeped Sean out when Abby (another 90 day couple) went to the healer. It’s much more prevalent in Haiti, and Abby explained many there go see a voodoo healer before they’d go to a doctor.

i thought you made a great point, and I knew where Luis’ discomfort was coming from, because of my Caribbean spouse.  Pretty sure we all agree that his using it as a cudgel to rip Molly a new one when he had the proverbial beam in his own eye, was definitely the height of assholery.

Last time there was a Dominican partner on the show, chicken feet for dinner and a fogata were believed to be  voodoo, then we had Mambo Gladys, and now owls.  Getting old..move along TLC, you only get to use the water buffalo story line once.  Any other mention of livestock (unless it’s dinner) is passé.

My brother is an atheist, but no one puts up more Christmas decoration in a 500 SF apartment than he does.  Sometimes, decorations are just decorations.

And I agree with those who say that Luis was just really stretching for something to hit Molly with.  There is NOT ONE THING in the life he's shown that supports any true religious belief - especially that of a Pentecostal.  Truth be told, it's unlikely that a dedicated Pentecostal would even go into a bar, much less work in one.  And they would not have pre-marital sex (especially when shown on a TV show), go to stripper bars, view porn online, and/or be unkind or inappropriate with minors.

Sorry, Luis . . . what you do speaks so loudly I can't hear what you're saying.

I have had Pentacostals tell me I am not going to heaven because of my faith...it seems so un Christian like to say that to anyone.  Luis seems so sadistic in his treatment of Molly but he know she will take what ever he gives her because she has taught him to treat her like that...she will not stand up to him because she is desperate for a man.  He was probably mean to her in the DR too.

Born Agains and JW's have told me that I won't be going to heaven too, I don't care, I know better.  Luis is uneducated and grasping at straws in his rant about Molly's decor.  Molly probably gave no thought about religious meaning when she picked up her tchokes at Homegoods.

I'm actually not sure she actually meant he was Pentacostal.  I felt like that only came up once and it was when she was doing a talking head and was either still flustered by the argument, flustered by remembering the argument, or trying to (like a good reality "star") recreating being flustered by the argument.  When she said it was remember thinking "does she mean that or is it a random adjective being strung into a stream of consciousness don't-throw-religion-at-me owls-candle-losing-my-mind-drinking-strip-clubs-phone-porn blarfing interview.

Also kind of loved how some people spill the tea figuratively, but Molly is very literal about it, to the detriment of her parchment bible.

I haven't finished this epi, but that first scene with them seemed too insane to be real, to me. If it was I can't imagine it not causing a break up or at least a stall on the marriage deal. Given they did marry (spoiler thread), I have to default to fakery.

That said the 'relationship' is off. My guess is it's a business deal. He gets the GC, she gets some more publicity, & there's a bit of money.

I am interested in the updates on these two as I'm wondering how long after GC arrival he'll be outta there & meeting up with his bro in NJ.

I don't now what Molly expected when she brought a STRANGER to live in her home and put this STRANGER in charge of her young daughter. What could possibly go wrong?

Banging this guy on vacation might mean he's her true love but for all intents and purposes to her children he's still a STRANGER!!! But now he's a STRANGER given authority over her children. Wrong, wrong wrong!!!!

He was really freaking me out.  Really nuts and how he was messing with her made me really angry.  Send his ass home right now.  Welcome to your future Molly if you marry him.  There is seriously something wrong with him and I feel really sad for her that her self esteem is so low she would put up with that type of treatment.  He is a child compared to her and I don't know about any of you but I would rather never have sex again and be alone that support said child who will make you doubt your own sanity. That whole scene was seriously fucked up.

Haven't watched the episode yet, but have read the thread on the main 90-Day Fiance page.  There is talk that Luis says he is pentecostal, and references that nothing in Molly's house indicates the need to be saved.

Pentecostals are extremely anti-porn, stripper clubs, etc.  (Yes, I remember Jimmy Swaggart.)  But you can't scream "Pentecostal, Jesus saves" one moment while defending your addiction to porn, etc., the next.

I don't think he's mentally ill.  I think he's just nasty . . . and a frequent user of weed.  I have said from Week 1 of this season that his "Hey, American lady . . . I gonna marry you" was his standard bait for fishing for big tips.  Then when Molly (maybe believing it, maybe not) came up with the idea of getting on 90DF, he figured it would be a good way to get to the USA cheap.

I think we should start a pool of how long it takes before he's back at his bar in DR, tossing out bait again.

Maybe so but weed does not do that to you.  I think he is an ass and I don't think he is mentally healthy.

When Luis pointed out the owl and the candle (the devil's work right there, lol) the candle was lit...if Molly just got home from work who lit the candle?

If Luis can do that sort of fu*k nuttery to Molly can you imagine what he will do the kids?

Luis brought that nonsense religion jargon out of thin air to turn the tables on Molly and get out of the hot seat. I think she even said that at one point ... something about him using an owl and a candle as a reason to treat her kids like $hit. Something to that effect.  If he had mentioned the decor in the first week or so . . . MAYBE I could buy it, but no. Just no.  And he was so proud of himself for pushing her over the edge that he stood up, stuck out his tongue and LAUGHED. He has made it tremendously clear that he isn't happy here and can't stand her kids and so much more. He SHOULD leave.

This is so funny that you were able to capture his entire tirade. It's arrrrrrrrrrrrt?!

For the record, I would have the same concerns with Molly's decorating. I don't think Luis is wrong about being concerned, from a Christian POV. And I am from Brooklyn, NY, not a place where voodoo is common. I'm just a regular person who is Catholic and have no roots in the Caribbean. My issue is his cherry picking sins from the Bible and his just bringing it up after 3 months living there. I can't believe that would be the first time they discussed it. Or else a lot was edited from that conversation. Maybe she called him "evil" or something and in response, he dragged her about the Buddhas and red candles. Luis is creepy and cocky but he's not crazy and nothing he's ever said was off the wall illogical.

I'm Catholic myself and have no problem with Buddhas, candles or owls. I don't believe for a second Luis is religious or cares about her decorations. Most people I know decorate with various objects and different types of art. I personally dont know anyone who only has Crosses or bible verses in there homes, and I would actually find that creepy. If Luis is so religious, perhaps he should start with laying off porn, strip clubs, and dirty talk.

I think that Luis was lounging on Molly's bed and consulting the "Sanky Panky Exit Strategy Guide" on his phone.

Chapter 8: "If all else fails, a Sanky should stage a bizarre out-of-control rant about Satanism, speak gibberish, act unhinged and gaslight your American 'mark' into believing that it's all her fault you're behaving this way."

I think for Luis it was the Buddhas, candles AND owls, plus whatever else she has around there (Mary in a cage? Wtf?)  - he feels he's seen enough around the house to accuse her. I can't stand the guy, but for show purposes It was enough to work the scene & put Molly in an over acting frenzy.

That said, Luis needs to take the porn & strippers out of his own eye first...

Thank you, @Arwen Evenstar. I appreciate you making the point even those who aren't religious can be freaked out about anything their culture says represents Santeria/voodoo religions. As a matter of fact, even keeping Christian iconography around the house to defend against evil spirits by those who aren't religious is quite common, in my experience. It doesn't make any sense: "You're not religious, but you have these religious icons scattered around your home to protect you from evil spirits?" Seems weird, but I've always seen that behavior as sort of an "insurance policy" - kind of like "I don't know if God(s) exist, so I don't practice my religion, but just in case I'm wrong and evil spirits exist, I'll spread these religious icons around the house to protect me."

Before I met my husband, I had spent considerable time vacationing in Puerto Rico. At one point, my friend and I rented a car, and a guy we had met took us on a little tour outside of San Juan. We drove up the road leading to El Yunque. Along that road, there were "lookouts" where you could pull your car over and get out.. At almost every one of these spots, there were remains of a fire, surrounded by the charred remains of....something (we did not get out of the car to get a closer look). Our "guide" explained these were popular spots for people involved in Santeria to come and do their rituals. I didn't know until years later (during the time my SIL lived with us and I did some serious research) animal sacrifices are a part of Santeria. I am really glad I stayed in the car.

They showed a picture of a Buddha something or other; ceramic thing?  There was an owl with a candle in front of it.  I don't know what else he may have picked up on but those were shown on camera. What I was conveying is he was probably lumping everything together into meaning something sinister, not each one on its own.

Sort of like Molly was lumping the cursing, porn, strippers, being nasty to her kids, constant make me food demands ... oh yeah, but, that might really mean something is off.

I agree with others that Luis' issue with the owl, buddah, whatever --had nothing to do with religion for him. He was taking things that he has heard from other people, perhaps those in his family who in fact are religious and applying them to Molly's decor to unnerve her. My BIL is Puerto Rican and I have never heard him say a thing about owls--his step-granddaughter's nursery was decorated in a cute owl motif.

Not saying that certain images and statues aren't upsetting to those who actually practice certain beliefs, but I doubt it is an issue for Luis. Why wouldn't he have mentioned it before, when he first moved in? Molly certainly, imo, would have removed those items to keep Luis happy. The owl didn't seem to disturb him all the nights he was spending in that bedroom and all the times he was lounging in bed, napping and looking at porn on his phone, did it?

Not saying that certain images and statues aren't upsetting to those who actually practice certain beliefs, but I doubt it is an issue for Luis. Why wouldn't he have mentioned it before, when he first moved in?

Or at a time when Molly wasn't trying to have a totally different conversation? He just threw that in there, as someone said, to get out of the hotseat. Or to have an excuse to leave.

There is seriously something wrong with him

Posters with child abuse history mentioned this at the beginning and then disappeared; they seem to have said it once and given up -- given the ensuing "he's fine, you're crazy" comments, I'm guessing those posters were summarily removed from this site. These girls AND Molly need to get him out of the house and change the locks. Simply an inappropriate situation...keep these minors safe. Luis has already scarred the littler one. At least she has video to show the shrink in 10 years.

I'm one of those posters, and I'm still here.  I just learned a long time ago that sometimes I have to state my opinion and then move on.  It's a waste of time to argue with people whose opinions will never agree with mine.  I HOPE we're wrong, but I sure wouldn't put my most precious treasure at risk.

Most of those posters are still here. But you're right-that's what we do on here. We post about a topic, get everyone's opinions and then move on.

I still don't see "child molester" in Luis. But I respected other people's opinions about it. I just think he's a run-of-the-mill asshole.

That's fine; I'm not requiring a consensus among all ppl identifying as Catholic.

My point is simply that religious symbols and "decorations" are very different for some of us. It would be a dealbreaker for me, personally. And IN THEORY Luis would be well within his rights to addresss it....even if he sins in other ways. (But not as a deflection from another topic, of course.)

Guys, Louis went nuts about the Satinic Knick-knacks because he is sick of having to dust them. Nothing more.

I guess the conversation about Kensley being special needs was deleted from the episode discussion. But Molly has said that Kensley has a chromosomal abnormality. Idk if shevsaid it in Double Divas or not. But she has said it on social media. Idk the name. But that is her response when ppl say she is badly behaved. I can try to find receipts.

So here is one very recent example on instagram of Molly telling ppl kensley has a genetic difference. But it's not like it's a secret. Idk much about the condition but it affects behavior.

I’m really pissed I can’t buy any more owls from pier one.  And I have a beautiful woodland themed tree with lots of rustic accents, birds with feathered tails and cute critters and....owls.   Yikes it’s a devils tree in the middle of the Christmas season.

By "cleon" does that rude idiot mean "Klingon"?

Whatever is going on with Kensley, I don't think her IQ is affected. She seems quite bright.

Edited to correct spelling. I have trouble with made-up names. It's Kensley, not "Kinsley," and Nicole's kid is definitely May, not "Mae."

Social media information is considered spoiler/spec and doesn't belong in episode threads.  It belongs here.

When my eldest niece and her family moved into their new home I gave her a budget for Modcloth and she redid the kid's bathroom in an owl motif.  Shower curtain, drapes, knick knacks etc.  OH NO!

I was one who said I didn't believe he was a molester, but I have always maintained that he's an ass, and that he gets off on hurting others.

In response to Luis's freaking out about Molly's supposedly religious artifacts, to quote Annie "Oh my, Buddha!"

Noon used to say that too.  I always thought it was cute.

I think it’s innapropriate to diagnose people you see on tv.  This show is scripted. It has a theme. Right now, before they all get married, they have huge drama and one or both storm out and scream “I’m not getting married!!”

You could see the bad acting on Luis’ part at the restaurant. Molly is better at it. I found the whole conversation in the bedroom entertaining.

Azan and blondie have been set up for next season. The sisters were told to harp on the one subject, etc etc etc.  all scripted.
