Ok so they're just full of it. Won't admit they actually put something up there.

Fusili Jerry!!

Back on topic: I like watching LD's facial reactions to others. He could sometimes not talk and it would be enough.

If they do a next season I hope there's no Fatwa.

Agree, the Fatwa was the least interesting thing for me this season. I kind of love being annoyed with him for agreeing to insanely inappropriate requests such as letting Lin's cousins stay with him yet constantly risking everything to voice some stupid hard line opinion he has on something totally avoidable.

He could do an entire season of random house guests.

Again OT. Sorry! My mom always says my dad was just like Larry. And I kind of love it. That's a side of him I didn't really know. ❤️

Edit: I did know that side but not to the extreme that LD is. Also, similarities in clothing and looks, too.

And done ?.

I got distracted by what a complete asshole Lin Manuel was, and how inexplicably everyone was on his side.

He not only allowed himself to be portrayed as a complete asshole; he also allowed songs that were crap to be represented as his work. (Almost certainly they were the work of LD and his co-writers attempting to mimic Miranda's brilliance but not trying very hard.) He either has a great sense of humor about himself and his work, or he had no idea how badly he, and work represented as his, were going to come off!

As far as the mullahs who were eating the onion rings go, the fatwa is over. The guy at the end was the WWII joke about the japanese soldier who didn't know the war ended and kept fighting, which is a real life thing too. The musical is done too unless Miranda agrees to be in it because they insisted on only him.

Lin Manuel is good people, though, right?  Never heard of him until "Love is love is love is love."  And then I fell in love with him. Please tell me he's got a heart as big as I think he does.

Is this serious? Curb is a comedy show, it was for laughs.

From my understanding, Lin is supposed to be lovely and positive. I follow him on Twitter, so what I can say from that is that he's a little cheerleader and never tweets anything negative or cruel.

I'm aware Curb is a comedy show. And yes, my comment was serious. While other celebs playing "themselves" on the show have allowed themselves to be shown in an unflattering light (because we understand that "Richard Lewis" and "Ted Danson" are not the same as Richard Lewis and Ted Danson), in this case Manuel also allowed his work to be ridiculed, by allowing some really awful songs to be passed off as his own. That cuts a little closer to home. I say more power to him for being such a good sport! But the sacrifice required was worth noting.

I don't know. I have a feeling "Richard Lewis" is close to Richard Lewis. The people that Larry seem to have the longer relationships with seem to be more of themselves to me.

Unless you actually know that person personally, that's an unfounded assumption.  It's sort of like with Christa Miller.  First she was the tomboyish "girl next door" type Kate O'Brien character on The Drew Carey Show.  After that, she was Jordan Sullivan on Scrubs, a bitchy, stylish, socialite type.  People complained to Bill Lawrence (her husband and show runner on Scrubs) that Jordan was all wrong for her personality, and that Kate was more appropriate.  Except they didn't know her, and Bill Lawrence said that in reality her personality was much closer to Jordan (although not quite as bitchy).

I object to the use of 'unfounded', and I don't think the subsequent comparison is apt. Watching the show for 9 seasons yields a fairly substantial amount of observational data in terms of their back and forth in their scenes. We also know they've been friends irl for quite awhile. Given that the 'characters' on the show are essentially themselves and not playing fictional characters like on any other tv show, it's fair to postulate there's more of themselves in these characters. Additionally, since the show is largely improv, and the actors have known each other for a long time, they know one another well enough to play off and make each other laugh, as we've seen on numerous occasions. I'd say the same for Funkhauser too. While the scenes themselves may be exaggerated, the actors may still be within themselves playing out the scene.

This doesn't apply to the regular guests playing themselves. I'm limiting it to Larry's actual friends.

Oh yeah...he said Alec Berg was a good John Houseman name. Lol...so in John Houseman's accent the name sounds fancy. Love it. I'll have to look up Houseman so I can hear his voice.

I'm old enough to remember this John Houseman commercial: "Smith Barney.  They make money the old-fashioned way - they eaaaarn it," lol.

Chiming in late to say that I mostly liked this season, except like some other posters I feel that LD went way, way overboard with the guest stars.  Casey Wilson's part, much as I like her, could have been filled by any day-player.  Has she been on Curb before?  It's almost like LD wasn't sure if there would be a Season 10 and wanted to squeeze in everyone he likes or ever wanted to work with.

I agree. But I also wouldn't be surprised if his friends say to him constantly, "When are going to write me into an episode of 'Curb'?"

I think the season as a whole has been much better than the recent ones, I really do look forward to these episodes.  For some reason, all the shucker puns (shuck and awe, especially) just cracked me up.  I like the way the on-going stuff (Fatwa, tap water) has been integrated into the episode.  Ilikd the whole L-MM/Larry dominance thing, including the staring.  I think one of the reasons I like this season is sthat the actors seem to be really enjoying themselves.

Speaking of actors - who was the shucker?  He seemed familiar.

Wings first, but more current, he's on Ballers.

Regarding the scenes with Larry in the shower in episode one:  I've always said that people over 50 shouldn't be naked.

It always continues to amaze me how Larry manages to date such beautiful women on the show.  I guess fame and fortune will do that for you.  Elizabeth Banks this season.

I thought season 9 was well worth the wait (not that I liked the wait).  Larry is a genius!

I enjoyed the Fatwa stuff, both the musical and the vendetta, probably more the musical though.

Women love a man who can make them laugh. That's Larry's appeal... and then the money.

Plus he is highly respected and highly successful in his field.  He is also well liked by audiences.  If you ever watch SNL when he is on, he always gets a large and warm reception.  Not sure how much of "that" Larry is "this" Larry though  :)

I wouldn't think of not holding the door for a man or a woman who was approaching the door behind me.

It wouldn't occur to me that he or she would take it as an insult, as if I were saying, "I don't think you have the strength to open a door for yourself." Since I'm not saying that.

Maybe my attitude of consideration for others is generational? I hope not. I hope there are young people who are still polite. Never mind, I know there are.

Same, but I’m in my 50s and I think consideration of others has become somehow insulting these days. People  don’t like having to interact with strangers in person.  It’s just habit for me to check behind me as I go through a public door. Not because I think anybody can’t open their own door,  but because it’s commom courtesy!  I’m sure with each generation, manners die off a little bit, and this has been going on long before I was born.

Never mind strangers, some folks don't even want to interact with friends/relatives...and prefer to text or email instead of making a phone call.  Sad how things are getting more & more impersonal.

Larry is the kind of person who either you don't "get him" and then don't like him, or you do "get him" and you love him.

Do any of you have a friend, who in your group everybody loves him.  But to people outside your group you are always apologizing for him?  That's Larry David.

I've been watching season 7, which I haven't seen since it aired...ten years ago. And it's still the third-most-recent season. I love that this show has accompanied me with its intermittent hilarity for the whole 21st century. (Intermittent in that it's intermittently hilarious, and also in that it's now produced intermittently.)

It's bittersweet seeing classic Funkhouser scenes in this season, after Bob Einstein's death in January. Like the one in which he jumps on Larry's "If there's anything I can do..." (episode 7-1) to get him to go visit Bam-Bam. When Larry admits that he was just making an empty gesture, and "it was something to say," the way Einstein/Funkhouser rasps out, "Guess what! You said it! Be there at 1:00," that's Funkhouser in a nutshell.

The show has lost other players along the way, but they've been seniors who only appeared occasionally, like the actors who played the respective fathers of Jeff and Larry. Einstein will be a big loss to the regular crew. The loyalty of the "troupe" is such a big part of the series' appeal. Ted Danson was there in the second episode of the series proper, and he's still coming back, as is Mary Steenburgen less frequently. Cheryl Hines's character remains very much a part of Curb-World when she could have been relegated to mentions by now.

I think my favorite seasons will always be the earliest ones, 1-3, when it was fresh and unpredictable, and I felt I was seeing a whole notebook of things Larry was forbidden to do or never would have tried to do on Seinfeld, like the one with the incest survivors' group. But I do think they have successfully reinvented Curb and given it new life. This started in season 6 with The Blacks and it fully flowered in 7. They have made some bold choices in these years, like breaking up the David marriage, keeping Leon around as a new sidekick, and changing the locale to New York for most of a season.

Seasons 4 (The Producers) and 5 (Lewis's kidney) were the low point. They had some great individual episodes, such as "The Survivor" and "The Ski Lift," but at that point it was as if the classic formula were being squeezed to the last drop. Those seasons also had my least favorite season-long arcs.

It isn't completely free from the problems of aging sitcoms, like the device of Larry running into that week's guest actors on the street and they're supposed to be friends with history, and then they become integral to the story of the week (they invite him to their dinner party or whatever), but we've never seen them and never will again. But there's always enough of a comedic payoff that I'll keep watching as long as David still keeps agreeing to one more season.

I enjoyed watching S7 so much that I decided to start from the top, so I'll have it all fresh in mind when the new episodes start. I haven't seen these early seasons since they were initially released on DVD.

It's wild seeing all the faces that have passed through for an episode, like Bob Odenkirk as Porno Gil, Nia Vardalos as the lawyer who bills Larry for her time after reading his script, Stephen Colbert as the man on the street who puts a hex on Larry's stage debut, Anton Yelchin (RIP) as Cheryl's magician cousin.

Something I'd forgotten is what a small presence Susie has in the early years. I had thought of her as very much a core player, but she's only in three episodes of season 1 (and is very calm in two of those), and only two of season 2. I'm not sure how I feel about that. I love Susie Essman's performance and the character, but the volcanic eruptions may have had more impact when we got them in small doses.

Early Larry/Cheryl could be very sweet.  I always liked their chemistry.

What are they going to do without Funkhauser? I grew to enjoy him, even with his ridiculous plastic surgery.

I think they need to mix in younger cast members.

Clips I've seen of Richard Lewis, he looks like the crypt keeper.

I don't know if Jon Hamm can be over the top like some of the other people on the show.

Hoping Ted Danson is back but he's got so many other gigs.

Damn Larry likes to push the envelope on abrasiveness and misbehavior.

So he’s going to be a #MeToo villain for misunderstandings, accidental groping and not respecting personal space?

The MAGA hat bit was funny but I thought it would build to some climax.

Maybe he thinks rich people are assholes, able to nose in on other people’s business, do things out of spite or don’t give a shit what others think.

He wasn’t willing to offend Phil Rosenthal but willing to offend strangers?

Poor Jeff. He DOES look like Harvey Weinstein.

This was a nice start. Mocha Joe is one of my favourite characters from the Seinfeld season and I hope Larry opening a coffee shop out of spite will mean we see him again. I loved Susie yelling at him in the hospital "He's her significant other! You're her significant nothing!" I always love Susie's rage towards Larry. Welcome back.

It's the hair that makes him look so disheveled. I think we all understand health issues, but if you're going to be on TV, a little personal grooming goes a long way.

I agree. But his hair was kind of his thing back in the day and I guess he doesn’t want to let it go. I tried to imagine him with a shorter haircut and it just seems odd!
