Born and raised in Minnesota, Alan Bersten started dancing at the young age of seven. Growing up Alan became proficient in Contemporary, Jazz, Hip Hop, Bollywood and Broadway. Alan's diverse dances led him to win Youth Champ. and Under 21 National Titles.

At the age of 18, Alan was a finalist on season 10 of So You Think You Can Dance and finished in the Top 6 Males. He performed a memorable blindfolded contemporary piece that had never been done on the show. Alan toured through North America with SYTYCD, and then joined Burn the Floor for their world tour.  After touring the world, Alan received a recurring role as part of the show's choir, Vocal Adrenaline, on Season 6 of Glee.

Alan has been on five seasons of ABC's Dancing with the Stars on the professional troupe allowing him to showcase his skills as a dancer and a choreographer. During season 24, Alan was partnered with celeb, Heather Morris for four weeks due to Maksim Chmerkovskiy's injury. This has been on tour with Dancing with the Stars: Live! four times, and Season 25 marks Alan's first time as a professional dancer on Dancing with the Stars.

Alan Bersten is partnered with Debbie Gibson.

While I have been very vocal about the male pro list needing an overhaul, I have to say I think Alan has done a nice job to date with what he's been asked to do.  When he first started with DWTS he struck me as very immature and he may be immature as I don't follow him that closely, but I think he's done a very good job in his short pro experience being attentive to his partners and also just so enthusiastic about being there.  He's like the anti-Gleb where he's going to be grateful about every opportunity.  There is also something about Alan's enthusiasm that feels very genuine.

I also feel like he's been asked to step into some very difficult situations the last few seasons with Maks.  First with Heather and then even more last season with Maks and his refusal to dance that one week.

Looks to me like Alan hit the jackpot!  He's done well in his fill-in assignments.  I think he's going to be competing mostly with Artem & Jamie.  I'm tempted to add "along with Sharna & Josh but I don't follow football and have no idea if Josh is popular or even what team he's with" (don't much care).

The one thing missing from his resume that concerns me is any mention of specific training in ballroom/Latin.  He seems to have been professionally trained in everything BUT that.

That said, he was pretty good in the weeks he was asked to sub for Maks.  Let's see how well he does as a full-time pro this season.

I don’t know the ins and outs of his training but he was always introduced as a ballroom specialist on his season of SYTYCD. I assumed he was on the same circuit as the Utah kids.

I'm confused about this because while I have no idea where he was trained, he was presented to the world as a ballroom/latin dancer on SYTYCD during his season.  He auditioned in ballroom and during his little interview said he had been trained in all 10 ballroom dance styles by top coaches for a period of 10 years.  I have never heard anyone suggest that Alan wasn't ballroom trained.  I don't know how his training stacks up against the others but he is trained.

See here:

Also this wouldn't be his first season as a full time pro.  He was paired with Debbie Gibson last season and he did a good job with her for as long as she lasted.

I was only going by what the bio posted at the start of his thread had specifically listed as his formal training.  I stopped watching SYTYCD years ago, so I never saw Alan on there and didn't know that he was presented as a ballroom/Latin specialist like Artem and was a trained 10-Dancer to boot.

On GMA today Allan seemed to have steri strips on a new scar on his neck.  Anyone know what’s up with that?  Looks like thyroid surgery perhaps?

Now I can answer my own question.
