While Pride remains on probation six weeks after his rogue takedown of the corrupt Mayor Hamilton, his team is closely monitored by Supervisory Special Agent Paula Boyd. Also, when the FBI arrives to run lead on a case involving a stolen big rig of nuclear waste, the team must secretly investigate from the sidelines.

From the driving me crazy files:  Does anybody know what LaSalle calls Pride?  It sounds like "Kee".  I think I need to close caption

I'm happy to have the show back without that stupid mayor storyline that threaded through all of last season.  I don't even know nor care how it ended as I didn't watch.

My problem with last night is twofold.  1.  Why did they want to release the nuclear bomb on NO?  Was there money involved somehow? and 2.  Didn't they realize that the radioactivity would hit them too after it was released?

Pride's nickname is "King".

This episode was silly and colorful, and everyone was running around like chickens without heads. Unlike domestic terrorists in New Orleans, the interpersonal stuff was well done. They seem to be moving Chris/Sonja waaaay to slowly but Gregorio offering Sonja to live with her in the apartment of a dude they just shot was kind of hilarious.

So, I guess that Patton is the only adult that works at NCIS: NOLA (oh, I mean, N'awlins, because "it matters").  Holy geez, I almost deleted it about 15 minutes in.  Ok, so I get it, we've all had super awesome bosses leave and get replaced with someone we don't care for.  But to act like a bunch of 11 year olds (sorry, 11 year olds) on the job was so dumb my eyes hurt from rolling.  Who wrote that garbage?!?  I wanted to smack Gregorio  for the unbelievable amount of disrespect she (and everyone) showed to the temp replacement.  I also almost died when they are all bitching to Loretta that they need to "follow the rules" and "fill out paperwork" and she responds: "that's ridiculous!" I half expected her to say: "grow up and do your damn jobs!"  No such luck.  Also, why the hell is Pride only on probation??  Dude should have been arrested for kidnapping and attempted murder, but whatevs. Fill out some NCIS paperwork and you are back on the job, because, you know, he cares about the city and all.  And no one cares more about N'awlins than Pride.  Ugh.

I agree - this would have been better as a two-parter season opener because this actually would have been an interesting plotline if they hadn't resolved it in 5 minutes and explored it a bit more (especially the home-grown aspect of it).  I also had to laugh when they told the riverboat captain to get the hell out of there once they dropped him off because of your point (2) above.  Again, who wrote this?!?

At least we got to see Jimmy Buffet singing.  So, yay.

Somebody got shot in an apartment:  most times, that just makes for raising the rent and something to chat about at dinner parties.  With that view (?from the top of Jax Brewery), you are not going to get a reduced monthly rent, no way, no how.

And sneaking up on a barge in a three story tall paddlewheeler?  Subtle not very.   Shame they didn't know to go to TV station recordes for the film of when a fireworks barge had a fireworks misfire and explosion several decades ago.  Now that was a memorable fireworks.

Somebody needs to read the cc to find out what the rich kid's motive was.  Did they really call him a pensioner, and do they know the reason some who live inthe quarter are called pensioners, even when they are very young?

And speaking of not subtle - so they don't want DHS to go in with guns blazing, so they send only Pride and LaSalle, but they are spotted anyway and engage in a shoot out.  Ok.  And the barge wasn't even manned in any way?  So no one was just, you know, watching it to make sure no ne'er-do-wells tried to get onboard and cause mischief?

The same apartment that Gregorio almost gets killed in - the whole, "wow, that was close" - but super awesome apartment...let's rent it!  Yeesh.

I don't know about apartment rental values, but murder, violent death or homicide in a home buyer real estate really affects property value and the asking price of a house.  You can buy a house for a steal if someone died there through murder.  It is considered a stigmatized property.  In some states/municipalities I think it is actual law that a seller must disclose what happened in the property if is is considered stigmatized as part of the real estate transaction.

"At least we got to see Jimmy Buffet singing. So, yay. " this was the only redeeming factor of the episode. I love Scott Bakula and it was great to see him singing and playing the piano but the rest of the episode was awful. The "team" behave like juveniles, Ferlito (whatever her character's name is) has the gall to correct anyone since her terrible introduction to the show and they all behave like spoiled brats. We're supposed to believe that these are highly trained federal agents?

Don't confuse New Orleans and the French Quarter with the rest of this country.  Two blocks from us in the Quarter was a house known for 'ghosts' because of its history.  Our house? Two owners before us had a wealthy eccentric owner and some of the damage she did was major and illogical.

What would be bad in many neighborhoods doesn't apply everywhere.

Another house we owned there was known for the family that lived there.  "You live in the _______ house? they were crazy"  followed by stories of the boys' misbehaviour, except misbehaviour is way too understated a word.

They wanted to do New Orleans because they were locally raised and presumably unable to figure out a way to nuke Houston. I guess they fell into the category of suicide bombers or the low level of radiation was just suppose to scare the world into stopping nukes as the major city is evacuated.

What got me was the terrorist were not supposed to know anything about fighting, yet they took out the entire Marine guard force reaction team with pistol caliber submachine guns, how they got them in the first place, maybe last season's Navy hijack had some unaccounted for??? Meanwhile due to Iraq and the war we have been generally armored against rifler caliber fire for a generation so you would think a Department of Energy nuke truck with all the other fancy tech would have enough protection for the Marines to survive the first burst of fire. Followed by King takes over the task force

Omg! I love all these comments! Because I was feeling bad that I haven't yet watched the season premiere of this show- which is only one of two that I really watch. And now, I wonder if it's even worth it.....

I love love love Scott Bakula. And CCh Pounder is a new fave of mine. But even with these two, I'm still struggling to work up any interest...

I agree. I started watching this show due to my love for Scott Bakula and the fact that it would feature the city as a character. I still love Scott Bakula, but the show is losing me. I tuned in this week just as Gregorio was saying it was New Orleans, not Nola and tuned right out again. I don't know if it's the character or the actor I dislike, but there's no chemistry and she takes me right out of the story. I'm tired of the team being supervised by some other agency and running around being righteously rebellious because they know better. I'm tired of political intrigue taking the place of stories about detective work. Does this taking over of one agency by another happen in real life? And is NOLA really a hot bed of terrorism and drug cartel activity?

I'm not sure about inter-agency relationships like this, but it does seem to happen ALL THE TIME on this show.  Plus, I don't think NOLA is any more of a hot bed than, say, Phoenix or something. I just don't understand why they are so far gone with these stories instead of sticking with the procedural aspects of the show - especially since that is what is most interesting to most viewers, not this crap.  At least NCIS (OR) knows where their bread is buttered on this point.  Also, what I find most hilarious is that Gregorio was originally one of those annoying "other" agency reps that everyone hated at first because she was FBI.  I guess now that she is officially NCIS, she can act like a jackass just like her colleagues.

Forgot to add: this sums up perfectly the attitude of the characters of this show.  It should be NCIS: NOLA - We Are Righteously Rebellious

What gets me about how they keep going on about protecting "my city" well if that was the concern why did you choose to join the US Navy's investigative force?

In this specific case the FBI and Homeland Security providing the lead in a task force after the Department of Energy's shipment was hijacked made sense even if US Marines die in the crime. Last seasons having a FBI Agent and Department of Justice watching a US Navy cop because the Secretary of the Navy did not do his job, well rooting out corruption is part of the FBI mandate. Given the show they thought they had a rouge agent and not a dirty Mayor.

Pride and his team join forces with FBI Director Isler after a Russian operative, who’s in the states to provide intelligence on sleeper agents, disappears after his Navy escort is murdered. Also, Tammy partners with former sleeper agent Eva Azarova to locate the missing operative who Eva has known since childhood.

I think this episode title is supposed to be #1 Fan?

Anyway, I guess the irony was lost on Pride when he admonished Ms. Cray-Cray a few times for kidnapping him in order to get what she wanted....Pot, meet kettle, Pride.

But, a much, much better episode than the premiere, however, they really need to stop having the most-famous-guest-star be the perp.

Did I miss it or did they not bother to give a reason why Sonja wasn't there?????

As to the title of the episode, yes, it is "#1 Fan", however I think "The Asset" (next week's episode) was originally scheduled for this week (I seem to remember the same "stayed tuned for scenes from next week's episode" scenes from last week), which explains the "bad" title this week.

CBS changed the episode from The Asset to #1 Fan at the last minute. The promo videos on YouTube were also pulled. CBS put out a press release on Monday. I don't know why they switched them though.

In my opinion, it's lazy writing to not mention a regular character's absence (Patton or Percy). Just a couple of lines to explain it is sufficient.

I'm thinking that the actors are not contracted for every episode. Percy has missed several and it's not due to Down Town Abbey. They may only appear in 16 or 17 of the episodes per season. They are regular credited cast members but the show saves money by not having them in every episode. That said, I miss Percy when she's not on!

Link to comment

I think Shalita Grant who plays Percy started filming the season a week or so later, because she was still doing Shakespeare in the Park A Midsummer Night's Dream in NYC. When I went to see it during the summer I was surprised to see Percy onstage. I am surprised that they did not have some throwaway line about why she was not around. I really wish instead of Percy or Patton that Gregorio would disappear for several episodes.

Pride gets beat up by a middle-aged woman?!?  I think Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory would have put up more of a struggle.

That is why the Federal Government has a mandatory retirement age for law enforcement agents. Fornell should have been gone over a decade ago with Gibbs right behind him. As the baby, Pride passed that stage of life about the time NCIS NOLA began.

Some crazy unfit middle-aged lady that got off her meds a) is taken directly to Pride by the security of the NCIS office on her word of knowing Pride and nothing less because they all work in a diner, not in strategic paramilitary facility that fights terrorism, among other things; b)  caught the Super De-Duper Badass Agent Pride with a taser; c) beat him up, HARD, several times; c) interrogated a perp because the people who are supposed to do their jobs are too... moronic??

I think NOLA would make their episode more WTF than Hawaii Five-0's if they hired their Crazy Lady of Misery to replace Pride, though.

I finally watched.  I couldn't even watch last seasons finale because I really HATE "This Time It's Personal" and "We're Going Rogue - Who Needs Rules" storylines.  This episode was more of the same.  Plus, too much terrorism!  I want murder mysteries again.  And why just murder?  Go for some intricate thievery stories.

On the plus side, replacement boss was good.  She didn't come in and steamroll over everything.  She acknowledged that this was a good team and just pushed the standing rules.  She mentioned San Diego - did she show up on the other show?  The one that was supposed to be in San Diego, but move to LA because, apparently, San Diego is boring?

Los Angeles doesn't have mere Special Agents come in, except for their undercover psychologist who was once regular cast. They have Assistant Directors first Granger carried over from the failed backdoor pilot Red Team. When the actor Miguel Ferrer got sick in one of the few universe building moves Admiral Chegwidden, the retired JAG from that series  came on for a few episodes and now Nia Long is a new Assistant Director in Los Angeles.

Finally got around to watching this.  Kinda wish I didn't now.  ;)

Dang, that lady gets the drop on Pride not once but twice in this episode?  Then allows her to grab a weapon just as his team rolls in to finally save his sorry butt.

And then they allow "Misery Lady" to actually interrogate the prime suspect!?  Seriously!?  This show is going off the rails fast.  Also, more points off for no Percy (and no explanation for no Percy as well).

Will still keep watching but man...the last few episodes have been really sub par of late.

Wow, I did not see that ending coming. I really liked it. This whole episode was great - the role reversal Pride was in, the story of the Russians, having the team clash in ways that are consistent with their personalities and not some made up BS, and a very satisfactory ending. Sorry to see Eva go but it's a great way to go out.

Meh.  It was better than last week's episode, but that wasn't exactly a very high bar to clear.  :)

Gregorio annoyed me less than usual.  And Percy was back.  So, there's that.  Still can't believe it took them so long to figure out they were being tracked by their cellphones.  That was one of the first things I would thought of in their position.  And while I enjoyed the ending, it was pretty similar to an old NCIS episode where the Russians thought one of their targets was killed, only to be staged in similar fashion like this.  Still I am glad she and her brother are still alive.

I did kinda like the role reversal as well.  And I do feel for FBI dude.  He is so screwed.  But then again he can say, "Hey, at least I didn't kidnap the mayor of New Orleans and throw someone else off a tall building!"  :)

One thing that kinda bugs me is they all are dressed so casual.  Double agent FBI lady was a murder and traitor and all, but at least she dressed appropriately.  :)

FBI folks aren't scrounging around crime scenes. If you might have to run down hills or put your hands into garbage at a moment's notice, why would you wear nice clothes? Jeans and a shirt that can survive wear and tear make perfect sense for what they do.

The NCIS team investigates the copycat murder of an unsolved case from 150 years ago that spawned a legendary New Orleans ghost story. Also, Gregorio is spooked when the case is connected to a recent séance and a local medium.

Totally agree - it was better, but just boring. And I'm pretty sure the FBI, while conducting an "off-the-books" investigation (whatever that means), would have no permission from the Bureau of Prisons to take an inmate out of custody (don't get me started on the scene back at Gregorio and Percy's apartment) and then just flip her into protective custody because her brother was going to help the Feds and she wants to live in Montana.  Yeesh.

So, the exact thought about the clothes went through my head last night - Percy's nearly see-through blue shirt and black bra and Gregorio's ripped jeans were a bit too casual and I actually took notice of both.

I agree about the clothes. The male agents are able to fight crime without showing their chests or having their jeans painted on. There's casual and then there's tacky.

Gregorio didn't annoy me as much as usual, either. I think that's because she was interacting mostly with the Russian woman, with whom she does have some chemistry. As soon as the Russian got shot my first thought was "Vest!" My second was, "Do they really expect us to believe a vest was invisible under that skin tight top?" Apparently yes. I bought it because I wanted a happy ending for her. Also, I'm selfless and kind hearted, so I'd be ok with Gregorio following her to Montana or wherever and staying there forever.

I'm happy to see some consequences for their actions and some awareness that they can't get away with everything. Although if you kidnap one person and throw another one off a building, you'd think the consequences would be worse than having to participate in conference calls. i can't imagine what's going to happen to poor Isler. Maybe they'll slow his data speed and limit his texts.

They originally had the day off to move into their new apartment.  Those were perfectly fine moving day clothes.  Like all modern television procedurals, the entire case took place in a day.  Or overnight with no time to go home and change.  Fact of Hollywood life, and makes for easier shooting continuity (although how you keep continuity with torn up jeans baffles me).

That would be a good explanation if they didn't always show up for work in clothes that were too tight and too low cut, especially Gregorio. There was some discussion about this last season, with some of us wondering if the idea was for Gregorio to be seen as sexy.

This may be an unpopular opinion but I'm enjoying Gregorio a lot more this season. I like how they were able to use her as a voice for those who have mystical beliefs (I loved her retort to Sebastian - "can you prove love?") and making her really jumpy instead of Sebastian was a great switch of the dynamic. I also totally buy Loretta wanting to believe that things don't end on her slab. I also liked the story. Nothing complicated but I enjoyed discovering the secret and liked the scene at the end with both women who lost someone they cared about coming forward for a hopeful new partnership.

Not a fancy episode but I found it enjoyable.
