In a small town in Michigan, Kai Anderson uses the election of Trump to spread his twisted version of fear to get the people to turn to him. Meanwhile, Ally Mayfair-Richards finds her fears brought to life when clowns start appearing to her and no one else.

Oh my freaking God. Insane Killer Clown Posse flips me the hell out, and I loved Bozo the Clown as a kid. This episode scarred and scared me more than the last two series combined.

Figuring out what is real and what is gaslighting is going to be a pain in the ass. I'm in.

Enjoy your latte Bitch lol I laughed. Evan did more in this episode then he did all last season.  Glad he will have a lead role this season.

I liked the dynamic between Kai and Winter he is clearly a lunatic but the pinky swear made me go aww lol.

Twisty great to see you its a good way to make him return.

Not sure what to think of Ozzie yet. That kid could go either way.

Sarah had great hair but after last season I am tired of watching her scream and cry.

I don't know yet if I will like Ivy or not.

Love they used the house from the original Halloween.

I guess the clowns doing the killing were doing that because Kia told them too? Maybe will find that out.

Well I'm in!!!!!

Like always Evan Petrs and Sarah Paulson are on fire.  They both bring so much to their parts and this show.

Twisty The Clown is back to murdering form!!!!

Is showing a kid the dark web and bring him to a murder something you would fire a babysitter for?

The Ally/Ivy relationship is going to be interesting especially as Ally continues to spiral and the babysitter gaslights Oz.

This was a good start to the season, actually scary with the clowns. My only thing is that Evan Peters' and his crew terrorizing that couple and son feels so random. I hope that we find out that he has a connection to them that explains his motivation later on.

I didn't really understand the connection between the clown who attacked the couple at the beginning and the rest of the clowns in the episode. I do think that all the clowns that Ally saw were real. There are a lot of people in Kai's cult including the guy at the register and the cop.

I think we learn why Evan's Kai is going after them unless he is just mad they spilled his latte lol. Actually I wonder now if he bumped into them on purpose?

At that meeting he was speaking and acting more like a Cult leader then anything.

Some of the clowns are either real and just Ally's fear. Maybe at this point if we too are not suppose to know which ones are real. Leads to the confusion.

At first, I thought that Ally was hallucinating, but when her son saw the exact same clowns coming out of the truck and in the neighbor's house, I realized that she really was seeing the clowns.

It's a bit more political than I tend to like my TV, but I really enjoyed this.

This happens every season, but I was playing "Wait, where do I this actor from?" a lot. The one that gave me the most trouble was Winter. She was one of the Channels in Scream Queens, right?

Chaz was in AHS last season too. He played one of the crazy, pot growing Polks.

I think the clowns are real too. It's not clear why they are out to get Ally & her son at this point, nor is it clear if Ivy's in on it. Hopefully we won't have to wait too long to find out.

She was the ear muff wearing Chanel. Also Billie's mom is Carrie Fisher, so she's been in the spotlight more than what's usual for her.

My crazy knee jerk theory is the clowns are killing people that didn't vote or voted third party -- pretty much the only thing we know about the neighbors that got killed is the wife didn't vote -- and Ally ended up voting Jill Stein, so she's being taunted by the clowns for it.

Well if the clowns are real there is at least one cop in on it. More if no news leaks that it was a Manson style murder site.

The fact that the food under the cloche was different made me think she us just crazy but I guess Ivy could have switched it.

Honestly, I am so-so on this episode and felt more promise after Roanoke's first episode. The only thing I felt showed promise was Evan Peters, even if I was getting discount Joker vibes from him.

Oh, look, Sarah Paulson is playing a tormented character who cries a lot. What a surprise.

If they rely too heavily on "look! scary clowns" it is going to be a LONG, boring season for me. I feel like I am the only one who doesn't "get" the scary clown thing. It seems like the "it" phobia right now and I just can't understand it. Maybe I watched too much Bozo growing up or have seen Krusty too often on the Simpsons but I just don't see clowns as scary... During the scenes where Ally was being tormented by them it was just "Oh, look, crazies in masks..." Twisty was only scary in a slasher movie kinda way and even then was more gross then scary... If anyone could explain why clowns(plain clowns, like Bozo, not murderers dressed as clowns or demons in the form of clowns ala Pennywise from It) are scary I would honestly appreciate the insight.

Fun fact; My sister totally has that fear of holes. The worst I've seen it was when I was cutting a cantaloupe and she freaked out and started stabbing the seeds with a spoon...

Urrrrrgh.  Man, for a show that's supposed to be satirical the election cut way too close to the bone. I was one of the ones weeping and refusing to eat the day after so none of that was exaggerated for me.

Once again Evan Peters knocks it out of the park; he is an excellent cult leader, even more than a serial killer! His ability to switch between "crazy" provocation (the Mexican workers), random street harassment that a middle class lesbian couple might have read about but not experienced (Ally and Ivy) and his "superficially interesting until he starts to rant" presentation at the town meeting shows that he knows exactly what kind of fear to generate with what kind of person.  His mesmerizing of Winter may be one on one because he needs a loyal soldier but he clearly has other toys in his box to play with. I was wondering if he was wearing special contacts to make his eyes so flat and dead, like a shark's.

Call outs to other shows: the husband in the murdered next door couple/head of the town council was Cho on The Mentalist: that drawing of a smiley face in blood had to be a shout out! I was really happy to see him and pissed that he was killed so early.

This had a totally different feel and vibe from the rest of the seasons, which was mostly good. I'm down for something more psychological, and using the election /state of the world as a pretty launching pad and metaphor for sheer terror is pretty clever.

I actually was surprised that Ally turned out to be a Stein supporter, but it explains quite a bit. On top of whatever else is going on, she has intense guilt that could very well be messing with her mind.

Can't quite figure Winter out and if she's fully on board with the craziness espoused by Kai. Or if she's trying to fight it.

Speaking of Kai, the manbun killed me. In those scenes, he looked so much like the insane version of Chord Overstreet/Sam Evans in the last years of Glee, I had to wonder if that was kinda a Ryan Murphy in-joke.

As someone who hasn't enjoyed political minded shows like Scandal or House of Cards this year but is still fascinated by people who have lost their shit over the election (on both sides) I found this episodes incredibly intriguing.  Ally the liberal "snowflake" unable to function.  Kai the Trump supporter taking advantage of the fear. Both look like they are going down equally dark roads.

I am not sure what Winters plan is with Oz.  It seems like she is gaslighting him for some reason.

Plus killer clowns.

yay my guilty pleasure show is back!!!!!

Clowns are scary BECAUSE they are 'crazies in masks'. I am not actually phobic about them, but all clowns are inherently creepy to me. People in masks or mask-y makeup are hiding something and up to no good. I would most definitely freak the fuck out if suddenly a bunch of crazies in masks were harassing me at a grocery store, or piled out of a van on my street, but even supposedly benign clowns like Ronald McDonald or Bozo  or Fizbo look evil and sinister and I want them nowhere near me.

While I'd throw myself off a bridge before I'd ever be interested in a Trumpster in real life, I find I have utterly no problem still being ridiculously attracted to a blue haired psycho Evan Peters cult leader Trumpster. He can rock a man bun, too, yo. I do believe he knocked into Ivy and Ally on purpose, but I have no idea yet why he's targeting them, and sending Winter after them.

Intrigued by the relationship between Winter and Kai. Siblings?

I may have the slightest case of trypophobia...I mean, coral doesn't bother me, or crumpets, but it's all those photoshopped lotus pods on people's faces and tongues that freak me right out. But don't they freak everybody out?

I'm indifferent to clowns. They don't scare me and I don't find them funny or entertaining. The election stuff feels too soon though, especially with the DACA announcement yesterday.

Was there more graphic language this ep or was it me? Did I hear a few "fucks?"

Small thing: I have friends who have nannies and thought it was weird that they didn't appear to have the boy meet the nanny before hiring her.

I'm not so sure about this one. The political side to it is definitely going to turn some people off. And I, too, am really tired of watching Sarah Paulson scream and cry for an entire hour. We had a whole season of that last year. Also, it didn't really make sense when it turned out she voted for Jill Stein since she was weeping and wailing at the election results. People who voted for Jill Stein knew she had no chance of winning and didn't really care who won, hence their throw-away votes.

However, I'm glad to see Evan Peters back in a major role, since he was criminally under-used last season. And I'm intrigued by the notion that Ivy may very well be gaslighting Ally. She was the only one in the restaurant with her that could have switched out the food while Ally was running around looking for the clown.

Best moment of unintentional humor: Ivy running out to see what Ally is screaming about and Ally going "There was a clown!!!!!"

Was anyone else's cable feed screwed up? Mine kept freezing and I had to keep switching between the HD channel and the regular one.

I'm in. If this episode is any indication, then AHS is back in fine form. As for the politics, I find it both timely and cathartic. Nobody does batshit crazy like Evan Peters and this episode is no exception. His Kai not only lives to be offensive, he loves it.   Kai's victims are anyone who hates Trump and he will do whatever it takes to punish them for their "ignorance," whether it's goading Mexican immigrants into attacking him, taunting Ally for voting for Jill Stein or killing the City Counsel member who voted for Hillary Clinton and his wife who didn't vote at all.   Giving Kai any kind of power, especially over other people, is like giving a flamethrower to an arsonist.

As for Sarah Paulson, I don't like seeing her crying and screaming either, but she usually redeems herself by the season finale, so I'll give Ally a chance for now.

The return of Twisty was a nice surprise, but I would have loved a Dandy cameo.

I don't trust Winter. If I had a child and my babysitter not only exposed him to torture porn, she made him witness a murder, I would not only fire her, I'd either have her arrested or I might be arrested for kicking her ass.

Wild theory that maybe Kai is the sperm donor of Ozzy with this show its possible but I know its also a crazy thought.

Would like to see more of the silbling relationship between Kai and Winter.

Now Sarah will scream Ivy instead of Mmmmaaaattttttttt.

Happy to have opening credits again.

I love how Kai has an outfit for every situation the suit in the meeting and casual hot topic when he spilled coffee on them lol.

The reveal of her being a Stein voter was telling to me because I know people personally who were Bernie supporters who refused to support Hillary after he lost the primary and voted for Stein as an "eff you" to both Hillary and Trump, but they really wanted Trump to lose anyway. I immediately thought of those people when Ivy pointed out Ally voted for Stein.

Yes, but those aren't people who would be weeping and wailing when the election was called for Trump. Those were people who mostly assumed Clinton would win anyway and felt no compelling need to vote for her. Yeah they might have been shocked and upset when Trump won, but they wouldn't have been the type of people who were glued to their TV sets watching election results and then bursting into tears at the result, because they just didn't care that much to begin with.

So when the reveal came at the end that Ally had voted for Stein it didn't really jibe with that opening scene at the top of the hour. I think it was maybe a bit of foreshadowing or a clue that Ivy might be part of some kind of payback scheme but it didn't make a whole lot of sense to me. I think it would have worked better if we'd seen Ivy as the more hysterical of the two after the election result with Ally trying to comfort her.

Thinking about it some more, in Kai's speech/rant to that Board of Supervisors, he seems very close to going full Heath Ledger version of The Joker.  All about ultimate chaos.

I think it's possible that Ally voted for Stein fully expecting that Hillary would win, as most of us did. I do know folks who weren't thrilled with Hilary, voted their 'conscience' with Bernie or Stein, but were still apoplectic when the unthinkable happened. They--smugly, imo-- believed they had the luxury of not voting for Clinton without  the fear of a Trump win resulting, and when he did, the definitely weren't in 'don't much care' mode, they were freaked out. So Ally's reaction doesn't seem impossible or unlikely to me.

You did! Evan yelled "What the FUCK?" watching the election (as did many of us, but I can't figure out if he was upset that that person won or not) and later Paulsen screamed something like "what the fuck is going on?" to the cop outside the crime scene house. Both times the line seemed so organic to the situation it actually took a second or two before I realized I'd just heard an unbleeped F word!

(Preacher did it last week, but it was Hitler yelling it in German and the translated line was starred out, so I figured that's how they got away with it.)

Table for one!

I cannot take Evan Peters (who I loved as both Tate and Lobster Boy) in lame blue hair as an actual threat. The reality of fascists running over and killing human beings is far scarier. He would have been whisked out of the board meeting by security at the start of his unhinged tirade. Tossing pee bags to hype anti-immigration/racism? Meh. Murder-murder-stabby-stabby gets repetitively boring.  I guess the clowns were scary, but I dunno, not my thing. In small doses (as in Freak Show), good, but they're like cilantro to me: best used minimally (if at all).

Paulson's freak-out on election night felt cringeworthy, and I couldn't find it entertaining since I would think that die-hard Drumpf supporters would completely get off on watching snowflake libs react in exactly that way. (Assuming any are watching a Ryan Murphy show.) I'm not crazy about letting them have that satisfaction served on a silver platter.

And sure, I'd hire Wednesday Addams to watch my child. Especially while I'm going through a traumatic time. And I'd definitely spend more time at my knife-themed restaurant instead of staying home with my kid immediately after a double-murder (or murder-suicide) next door. Their home and decorations seem to indicate a pretty damn comfortable lifestyle.

Might be a little too disjointed (cult of Drumpf, clowns and bees?) and silly for me, considering what's actually happening in the world right now.

Yep. I know people who voted third-party, or didn't vote at all, because they didn't see a difference between the two main candidates. They didn't say much on election night, but since then, they've been vocal about how awful trump is.

A friend of mine also admitted that she almost didn't vote, because she was so tired, but ended up going just in case. Ally was screaming, "how could Nate Silver be so wrong?!" That's why I didn't depend on the polls. I came across too many people who startled me by coming out in support of the nightmare.

I wonder why the clowns would target Stein voters, or non-voters, if they're with Kai, though.  He seemed to be very happy with the results. Unless it's because they weren't scared enough to vote, and he's all about fear and anarchy.

I was Sarah Paulson's character on election night, and for a while afterwards. I flipped out on Facebook, and with family members who voted a certain way. Didn't eat for a couple of days. I also refused to watch them calling the election, and his speech.

There were plenty of liberals who didn't particularly like Hillary but figured she was going to win so put in a "protest vote" thinking what harm would it do?   Ha!  I can see Ally being one of those people and having the guilt magnify her fears until she is unable to function at all and send her down a seriously dark path.  I do understand how this might offend alot of people but there are alot of things about liberals that I don't particularly like I did find the "trigger warning" joke kinda funny.  I can see Ally and her guilt and clown phobia manifesting itself into the polar opposite of Evan Peter's cult leader character.  That would be interesting to see.  Two extreme personalities going head to head.

As for the clowns and the babysitter we don't really know their agenda's yet.  The clowns may just be a force of chaos let loose in the age of Trump.   And the Babysitter may just be gas lighting Oz for her own reasons not yet known.  So I am taking a wait and see approach for now.

I suspect in most cases "too political" will be code for "too anti-Trump." I can definitely see how the show would put off right-wingers. I'm also aware there's going to be an inherent danger in these forums becoming politicized. Prepare to be warned.

I wouldn't necessarily assume that. Even if I agree with someone's stance, I can be put off by how they are coming across when sharing those views. If someone is "my way or the highway" or dismissive and derisive of  people with opposing views I am not going to be receptive to them. Also; some people might simply want to tune out from politics and trouble in the world and not have that coming at then when trying to relax with TV.

I expected the food switch almost immediately after the plate was set down, so I watched closely. Ivy followed Ally all the way through the restaurant so she didn't have the opportunity to switch it. Although she could have an accomplice.

I am not a big fan of gaslighting stories. They tend to drag on and on.
