@sleepyjean, since the board is being difficult about letting me respond to a small portion of your post, I will just tag you. There's no more difficulty keeping a septum ring (or any nose ring) clean than there is keeping the end of your nose clean. People don't walk around with snot on the end of their noses after blowing. But, really, I just responded to the original comment because it's a pet peeve. People say that so often, and always in the shitty tone of the original comment I was quoting. It's a banal comment, although it's always made as if it's an original thought, full of both uninformed and bourgeois attitude.

And, yes, I have had three piercings in my nose for almost 30 years, including one through the septum. So, like I said, not difficult. I promise.

"Curvy" today means BIG hourglass/proportional. Otherwise, the word is "shapely."

It just occurred to me that the word "curvy" is one letter away from being " Scurvy".

I'm not sure how I feel about Amy. I think it's because she teaches at a school of design, so she probably has a lower threshold for immature affectedness combined with people who freak out when "things aren't FAIR!" and there's still a deadline. I don't know how good a teacher she is, so this could also be her fault, but I can see her point.

I hated the winning dress, it was really ugly. Of course it won. Did you notice that the muslim with the headscarf who made it wants all her designs to be modest and to show that it´s possible to wear clothes and still be modest, like a muslim, and you know, she wants to stay true to her modesty, so she made a long dress?  I can´t wait for the swim wear challenge. Either she´ll make a birkini, and probably mention that it´s modest at least 500 times, or she´ll have a nervous breakdown at the thought of not being able to make something "modest".

It´s ironic that she obviously doesn´t understand the meaning of modesty, that dress wasn´t modest in any way.
And those twins, yuck, I´ve never hated anyone as much so early in the contest as I do Shawn and her slightly less horrible sister. I´ll never forgive the judges for not sending them both home, there really is no excuse.

Will I continue watching this freak-show and hating on it next week? Yes, sadly, I´m completely spell-bound for all the wrong reasons.

I've been around some of my husband's cousin's friends.  She converted to Islam when she got married.  And from what I've picked up, their use of "Modest" isn't always what I would have thought.  To me, the really form-fitting dresses that show the body shape aren't modest, but for them it was about being covered wrist to ankle, showing no skin.

I believe the ideas of modesty are very different between cultures and this is one such example. This idea of having to cover everything is just something that most Western cultures do not equate with modesty. Especially if it´s a very loud and attention grabbing outfit like the winning dress. A little skin (like the arms and the calves, lol) and a nice normal dress is a much better way to show modesty than lets just say for example, an amish outfit or a hijab.

I also think it´s a bit much when a Muslim is wearing a headscarf and then talks non-stop about being a Muslim and how she´s different from everyone (i.e better). I feel the same way when it´s someone from another religion than Islam, but I don´t think they do it as much. I wish they wouldn´t feel the need to display their religion on their body AND ALSO talk about it constantly.

Ananie (I´m probably spelling her name wrong) seems like a wonderful person, this is the only thing that annoys me about her.

I think this might be the season when "the modest" designer wins. Plus (and necessity) for the PC-pandering that it´s a Muslim. I can´t believe the judges really liked her dress the best, and I feel they laid the "it´s so beautiful, look at the bottle caps" on a bit too thick...

And major kudos to Maggie Q for not being one of those guest judges with little to add beyond a few vapid comments. Good for her (and the Marie Claire lady) for calling that curvy nonsense out.

Thank you.  I have been wracking my brain trying to think of who they reminded me of  === and you hit the nail on the head.      I can rest easy now and hopefully won't have to look at either of them for too long.  Love the mute button on my remote

It's important to remember contestants are asked questions by the producers (talking heads) AND that all the things each contestant says during the course of filming is edited to just a very few conversations per episode. It may very well be the PRODUCERS are pushing the "Muslim angle" and not Ayana. For all we know, she could be chatting about her cats (if she has any) most of the time, but the producers are primarily including comments relating to Islam in her edit.

A fair point, but she gives the same speeches again and again. We´ll see if it continues or not. What we can be certain of is that the producers and everyone connected with making the show will not try to make the muslim seem annoying, quite the opposite.

I hope Shawn watches this episode and takes a good, long look at herself because she was beyond embarrassing in this episode. I was literally covering my eyes as she cried about how overwhelmed she was having to dress the model's body. Was her body the main reason Shawn was upset? No, it was more-so because she thought her designs were better than the judges thought, but wow. This is why I want the show to split the Twins up and make them sink or swim. Claire seems like the stronger twin, at the moment.

I actually wonder if it will be the two of them who gets hit with the cheating allegation.

I'm a little skeptical of Batani as well, which is unfortunate because i would like to see her do well. She works with a lot of prints, and I don't want to believe that the prints make the woman rather than the other way around.

It is crazy how she can make herself look so awesome and then send the utter shite down the runway.

Actually, if you saw the Rio Olympics, the US women (and most others) were wearing full-length bodysuits.  I could see her making one of those with a cover-up.

I think we heard from Ayana a lot this episode simply because she won. That's what the editors always do - they focus on the person who won, the person who lost, and a few selected others. IMO, I enjoy watching the designers deal with the design challenges while remaining true to their own aethestics. The fact that hers has a religious meaning for her makes it even more of a challenge. But all of the designers talk about it in the context of whatever their own deal is. I did not get the sense that she was saying she was better than anyone else, just struggling with how to deal with the parameters of the challenge in the context of her own personal situation.

And Nina always likes ugly outfits. She thinks they are editorial. This is the woman we have to thank for the Gretchen win, after all /s. So it surprised me not a bit that she was into Ayana's dress.

In season 1, that was Kara Saun. I didn't see the big deal with the shoes, because they may not have been informed that comped items were not allowed. To me, if you have a connection and use it, more power to you. That's life. It's not as though she stole the shoes or tried to pass them off as her own designs and make.

In season 3, Keith Michael was the one who was booted. He was actually the frontrunner before his dismissal as he had been in the top every time and won 1 challenge (I think he got yelled at during the dog challenge for not designing anything for the dog even though his dress was outstanding). Again, they were probably told they couldn't have pattern books, but I don't see why they can't. It's not as though a pattern book is going to help a terrible designer. Anyway, his dismissal was justified under the rules.

With respect I do see the problem with Kara Saun's shoe thing. The point of the rules was to try to provide an even playing field. A dozen or whatever pairs of free shoes made that field unequal. I do, however completely agree that in a professional (or even just a friendship) situation, by all means--someone offers you freebies? Have at 'em. If I were competing against her I'd be pissed, too.

As to Keith's pattern books and whatever else he'd hidden; that was a clear violation of the rules he and the others had agreed to abide to, I believe in writing, when they signed on. The show--at least at that time--was a design competition which included the judging of their skills. If they could access a pattern book because they didn't know how to construct--say--a peblum or bishop sleeves but could just turn to page 17 when no one else had that advantage, that's not right nor fair to the others and is a clear violation. And Keith was chastised because part of the dog challenge was to make an outfit for the model and coordinate it with something for the assigned dog. He simply blew that off by putting a ready made bracelet around the dog's neck and called it a collar.

And thank you for remembering their names--god knows I never could.

I think I must be the only person who wants the twins to NOT get double aufed.  Not that I like either of them but I admit, I watch reality competitions for some drama as well as tips.

If whiny, crying Baldy twin gets aufed, excuse me, WHEN whiny, crying Baldy twin gets aufed I look forward to Valley Girl twin's reaction and performance the next week.   VG twin had a breakdown they last two weeks because her sister was SAVED, imagine her reaction when Baldy twin is aufed.  Will she quit in solidarity?  They are so co-dependent, it'll be really interesting to see what VG twin will do the next week.  Will she crumble into a heap because she doesn't have her double there or will she bang it out because she no longer has to babysit her sister?

I have to admit, I think my favorite so far is Kenya.  I like her, I like her attitude, and I like her designs.  I just think the judges are going to start giving her a hard time because her stuff seems so normal and wearable.  I guess that's why I like it.

Yes, casting the twins was a producer's dream.  If one of them get's aufed--Drama!  If they get put on different teams--Drama!  If Whiny Twin needs so much support from Ponytail, that Ponytail can't finish her own garment--Drama!  Another team challenge where no one wants to work with either of them--Drama!

It is pretty much win-win with those two.  I get the feeling that Ponytail has been propping up delicate flower Whiny their whole lives.

And  I really wish that someone in that workroom had pointed out to her that most of them had "curvey girl" models and to suck it up.  Or mention Katy Perry, who definitely has curves.

Batani had the best dress.

Shawn should have gone home, she even had her sister there to help her and she didn't do much, just asked the others to do it for her.  The producers obviously want this twin twist to last longer.

The Twins already took part on the reality show Twinning, which they did very well on though they were hardly my favourites.  In this context they seem more annoying.

Either way I'm glad Shawn didn't go. I like the twins, and her dress wasn't the worse.

The problem is how much of it was actually hers?  The suggestion was not much.  It's a team challenge and you have to pull your weight.  The only reason she was kept in for longer was because the producers want more from the twin twist.

Oh, you tiny tots.  Balling = fucking goes WAY back further than that, at least to the 1930's, probably before.  You can find any number of filthy old jazz records that use the word "ball" as a double-entendre.  Of course that's what anyone Tim's age, especially a gay New Yorker Tim's age, would think of first. It's what I would think of first.  This whole recent useage of it that refers to extravagant professional athletes has the sexual undertone to it also, because of the idea of extravagant spending on partying (i.e., sex, getting high, etc.).

Well, I don't like Amy as much as I did before. Her dislike of the twins seems intensely personal and makes Amy look mean.

Which doesn't mean I give Shawn a free pass. Her design was in some ways better than last week, but her execution was poor, her attitude poorer still. She and Claire have an understandable but I think competitively harmful codependency. I do like their clear love for each other and enjoy their byplay.

i love Kenya, Batani and especially Ayana. They are capable, low-drama and have great attitudes. Brandon is a focused "never give up" type, and I respect that, but I don't like his designs much - though making the printed vinyl was very smart! I also really like Deyonte, Samantha, a couple of mid-range designers whose names escape me.... not feeling strongly about Aaron and Michael one way or another. I thought the Puerto Rican lady would be irritating, but she really isn't.

I love the word "curvy" - it evokes lovely, sensual bodies for me - but the 'coding' of it by Shawn for "fat" annoyed me a lot. Oh, and Shawn? You just pissed off the editor of Marie-Claire. Your days were numbered anyway, but you a have hit date-stamped territory with that.

Bye, Sentell. You are very sweet and probably were great to have around the workroom, but sometimes a garbage bag is just a garbage bag

I must be extra grumpy because it made me like her more. Aside from the pretentious speech patterns, and my ex had had a put on speech pattern that eventually became "natural" so I have a high tolerance, and her pathological Need to be the center of attention, plus her bitchiness about designing for a 6/8 -- i can not stand whiny people. So Amy reacted very much how I would have.

Also, Shawn has questionable taste and so far has show little talent to back her bitchiness.
