Like, I'm trying to understand the thought process behind this. Are they convinced that Jana will never get any Valentine flowers from other men? Are they trying to comfort her? Are they taking the piss? Are they showing their appreciation for her role as sister mom? Support for her single status? Because by the looks of it they actually got together and planned this, so there's got to be some kind of thought behind it.

And Jana looks as ambivalent as I feel about the whole thing. Because that is one massive bouquet of roses. That she just got. From her brothers.

These people are weird.

I think it's because they can't get away with giving her flowers on Mother's Day.

Well, at least it seems to show that somebody kinda sorta understands how much she does for everybody and that they may somewhat appreciate it. ... Look at the thimble-sized bouquets the Duggarlings wives and courtees have tended to get from their fundyMen. So a big bouquet may actually mean something around there. Wow. I'd bet on the boys coming with the idea way before I'd think JB and M came up with it.

Her parents have been the lead actors in treating her like shit. Plus, those two creeps never appreciate anybody but themselves.

Seems a lot more likely to me that the boys see all the stuff she does all the time; felt a little bit bad that, despite working harder than anybody in the family, all she gets is constantly ignored and kicked in the teeth; and figured they could club together and make some sort of gesture.

The boys seem occasionally to have been glimpsed appreciating Jana, such as at Joe's wedding, I seem to recall. And JD seems to appreciate her at times. 

Since they're members of the dumb, forcibly-kept-ignorant, out-of-if Duggar clan, it's not surprising that they'd pick a cliched gesture that may not be quite appropriate (although I can't see that it's as horrific as many people are saying -- lots of people get flowers from non-sex-partners on lots of occasions, including corpses, so why not Jana the 24-hour maid of all work from some of the people she works so hard for?)

It's not as if any gift or positive comment from a Duggar to a Duggar has ever been anything but 100-percent generic. So they came up with a generic-for-women present -- flowers. Plus, Jana's actually believed to like gardens. So maybe it's not even all that generic, in their tiny minds.

I'd bet every dime I have that Laura came up with the idea and all the boys did was half-heartedly scrawl their names on the card.

The only time I've ever seen a Duggar male do something sweet for their sister was when Jackson won a boatload of tickets at the arcade and used them to buy a prize for Hannie. Other than that? They don't do jack shit. I still get angry at the scene of Jana mopping the floor while the boys lounged around on the couch.

You're totally right. Laura came up with that idea and I bet the boys were happy to participate but no way they thought that up on their own.  They wouldn't because they don't really UNDERSTAND that Jana is doing anything extra. To them, it's expected and normal.  Laura, or someone, must see how hard Jana works and thought she deserved a thank you.

I did it for cosmetic purposes. My dad's a dentist, so smiles are really important to him, hehe. I'm a big wimp when it comes to surgery, but luckily it went easily for me! Plus, I had a suuuuper gummy smile, and now it is normal!

Really hoping (somewhat doubting) it's this. I'm thinking possibly a storyline for the show, so everyone can see the brothers planning it, and then acting clueless about how to execute it!

I noticed the same thing and thought a first wisdom teeth, but I believe Jill and Jana had their wisdom teeth removed in an episode of 19 Kids. Her cheeks and/or jowls look swollen.

I have a feeling that the rules are way different for the boys than the girls.  I don't remember seeing JoshUA having phone conversations with JB and Michelle in the room.  In fact, I can remember a few instances where he went outside and had conversations with Anna.  And didn't he drive all the way down to Florida, sans chaperone, to propose to Anna in that horrid cheap chain restaurant.  What a place to propose, Josh.  The least you could've done is waited till the group arrived home and knocked on the door.  But that's me.

My memory is he was going to do it somewhere outside, but it was raining and the restaurant was plan B.  But you maybe right about the different rules for boys.  Also I remember Josh giving Anna hug after proposing and him thinking it wasn't a big deal that it wasn't a side hug.

I remember that! At the time I thought it was sad because Anna’s parents were supposedly taking her out for a “special birthday dinner” but it was blatantly obvious that they were at a Denny’s. I mean, I get money being an object, but why not just cook her favorite meal at home and use the restaurant money for a small gift? 

I feel bad for Anna in general. She had a taste of the good life — nice restaurants, new clothes, a nice place to live — and then Josh’s penis ruined the whole thing. Now she’s back to thrift stores, a fixer-upper house provided by JB, and date night with Domino’s.

Not a Denny's.  It was a local seafood/fish restaurant called Gator Landing or something like that.  He was going to propose on the deck overlooking the water, but it rained.

Just thinking that they're listening in really gives me the creeps.  Seeing their faces on the screen would make it much worse.  I cant imagine the courting Jeremy put up with this nonsense. Maybe he figured he would just go along knowing he was moving Jinge out of state and away frome these idiots after the wedding. 

I didn't watch video & it may have been mentioned there but I think the restaurant was called Alligator Alley or something similar. Think they were supposed to sit outside but then the rains came moving them inside. My favorite part is the delivery guy walking thru the scene.

Josh made it seem like they were dining at some fancy expensive restaurant.

I know I'm a little late on this but I'll give them a pass on the roses. Not everyone knows that red is romantic love. That is a cultural thing that I never grew up with. My father and brother for years gave me and my sister  two red roses each on Valentines day also along with  the dozen he gave our mother. Where he grew up the only time roses were normally sold was around Valentines day and only red. I didn't know they had different meanings until I was an adult.  Every act this family does doesn't have to be creepy. There are many things they do that are cultural and although I'm not a southern white fundamentalist. I did grow up in the south and some things are regional... taken to the extreme mind you but still the regional.  My father still sends us flowers on Valentines and we are both married. He doesn't send red anymore because my mother finally convinced him otherwise but when my sister and I teased him about it some years ago he said he thought red was just a sign of love and white was for funerals because to him all he ever saw was red on Valentines day.

Also, people are allowed to simply like a particular type or color of flower because that's what they like. My daughter's favorite color has always been yellow, so her husband often gives her yellow roses (even though it would be more "correct" to give her red) because she likes yellow roses.

Out of all the fucked up things Josh has done, his proposal to Anna doesn't even make the list. Granted, I'd be super uncomfortable and pissed if someone proposed to me in the middle (or even on the deck) of a restaurant, but it wasn't horrible. It was a basic proposal. I actually like it much better than these over the top ridiculous proposals. And don't even get me stared on the new trend of kids needing a fucking parade to ask someone to Homecoming. God forbid you just ask and they just say yes. It makes me all stabby when I see 17 pictures of posters, balloons, flowers, and a scavenger hunt that's apparently needed by Bobby and Susie just to ask if she wants to go to the local high school dance held in the gym they had PE class in the day before.

That was my thought too. I grew up watching my father give my mother yellow roses because those are her particular favorite. (Apparently the florist who handled their wedding begged them to choose another color, arguing that yellow roses symbolize infidelity and are the wrong way to start a marriage, but that didn't deter them.)

Now, I don't believe for a second that one person in that whole ginormous family knows what color Jana likes best. Or what sort of flowers. Or whether she likes flowers. But I don't think the gift was per se creepy.
