Aw, Fiore. This show really nails the shifts in tone that really should not work at all.

So, the Mumbai Sky Tower casino. It's an Indian casino. Oh Preacher (sigh), I see what you did there.

Damn, Tulip's got some moves. I just thought she was mean and crazy.

Don't be fooled! Of this trio, Tulip is the badass.

I thought Fiore and Cassidy's "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" hotel room drug trip was the best part of this episode... and then Ganesh's crowd, decked out in ponchos to keep his blood from ruining their clothes, enthusiastically booed his dead body for failing to come back to life.

I'm so glad this show is back.

hahaha!

Loved this episode except for Tulip getting thrown around by that guy and Fiore's death. Damn, is he really gone?

I'm a bit perturbed by the lack of replies. I'm hoping the ratings remain consistent. Why should TWD have all the fun?

Nice bit of "Freak On A Leash" before the truck driver intercepted the bullet with his skull. And then circled back to pin the Saint. Also nice that the gang found out about Annville before fleeing in terror.

Didn't get the Indian/"Indian" casino gag. I feel dumb for that. Nice the Deflore Leblanc had a bit of fame and happiness before the Saint put him down. And I don't think he ever got as fucked up as he did with Cassidy. Good for him.

ETA: I wouldn't blame people for not liking the countdown clock cut . . . but with Cassidy's thick accent, I needed that.

Don't worry, Jesse.  I also couldn't remember who was Fiore and who was Leblanc.  Not that I didn't enjoy their characters last season, but they will always just be the awesome immortal cowboy angels!  Glad that they did give Fiore a send off.  Not surprised that he would actually end up hating his existence, and would actually want the Saint of Killers to just kill him like he did Leblanc.

Tulip vs. Gary was pretty brutal, but I knew Tulip would find some way to win.  Out of the trio, she might be the one I would least want to tangle with, and we're talking about a trio that also features an Irish vampire and a preacher who can command almost everyone with his voice.

I do like the idea that Jesse using Genesis is what puts the Saint of Killers on their trail, so I have to imagine that he will be using it much more sparingly going forward (well, after he finds out that Fiore in fact, doesn't call him off.)  It will be good way for them to just not be able to "Genesis" there way out of everything.

Next stop is New Orleans, because they figure, hey, if God loves jazz, that would be the place.  Honestly, that's about a good as reason as any.

Jesse's getting used to using the Voice, so if you used ear plugs or something to block it out you might buy yourself a few seconds to get away or just shoot him.  Cassidy is avoidable if you can get into sunlight or possibly just UV radiation (tanning salon).  Tulip will just find a way to fuck you up.  If you're coming after her in helicopter, she'll find some kids, build a bazooka out of paint can and shoot your ass down.

I rewatched last season right before this aired, so I'm feeling rather confused - do we know what happened to DeBlanc? I was a bit perplexed to see Fiore alone, and how did he end up working at the Casino? It seemed to be a punishment of sorts. He wanted out, but couldn't leave on his own.

I agree that Tulip is the real one to watch out for. She will take you down.

I loved the early scenes in the motel - when the armless dude just wants his root beer. Cassidy - "ginger ale's good for blood loss" Bahahahaha

I also feel sad that there's so little chatter around this show, because it's just awesome, IMO.

Remember last season  Donnie discharged his gun under the hood (trunk?) of the car to render himself mostly deaf, so the voice wouldn't work on him. So you can get around it; trouble is, most people aren't expecting it.

I was worried that Tulip was already married. I hope not because I want to see them as a kick ass husband and wife team. I'm also looking forward to reveal to Jesse that Tulip and Cassidy had sex. It's going to be a fun mix of hilarious and tragic.

What was the purpose of Cassidy's happy hour with Fiore? What did he try to achieve? Some information about the killer? and how to get him off their backs? Did they have sex in the pool? It definitely looks like Fiore developed some feelings for Cassidy.

Why would he want to kill himself? to be with Leblanc? And where does dead angels end up?

I think Cassidy intended to get Fiore to call the Saint of Killers off. And I think it almost worked. But then when Jesse said something about continuing to use the voice if he needed it, I think Fiore realized he just couldn't let Jesse keep living with that thing inside of him.

And, yes, I'm assuming Fiore wanted to die because he was without LeBlanc. Plus, I think he was tired of "killing" himself every night for entertainment. I'm not exactly sure how he wound up there. But I got the impression he couldn't just leave.

Such good questions.

My only answer is yes, to be with DeBlanc, I think.

The moment I saw Fiore hang himself in the hotel room it occurred to me that he'd need the Saint of Killers to shoot him to either put him out of his misery or reunite him with DeBlanc. So I knew that was coming pretty much the whole episode. Still not getting why (within the show's mythology) being in Hell for a century somehow made the Saint able to kill things that would otherwise be instantaneously resurrected, though. It certainly didn't seem to do so for the people he was gunning down on infinite replay there, though perhaps those weren't actually people at all.

I get the impression that this Victor guy may have been involved with Tulip and think of her as a moll who jilted him or somesuch. Historically mob boss types aren't so great with their partners being the one to call it quits on a relationship.

The writers better figure out a way to bring back world-weary Fiore. I was riveted by the actor's performance and need to see him again. Little things mean a lot: the little body dip to get the long head scarf to lay just right over his left shoulder before he approached the stage.

After half-watching last season, I delayed watching this season's first episode on my DVR, only to be excited about the improvements. Then I eagerly watched the second episode.

There's great acting chemistry between the trio.

Can someone remind me when and why Tulip had sex with Cassidy? You'd think I would remember, but I do not.

This show is so good at doing musical montages. It's a good way to cram a lot of content into a small amount of time, because it can show time jumps without being annoying. Plus they're just fun. I loved Fiore's and Cassidy's drug binge. Fiore definitely developed a crush on Cassidy, but I don't think Cassidy swings that way. I'm even questioning if Fiore and DeBlanc had a sexual relationship, since Fiore is so child-like, and he didn't seem to understand Cassidy's question about if the sex was good. "Sleeping together" could mean just that; Sleeping.

Yeah, I'm hoping dead on this show is like Supernatural dead and not necessarily permanent. Aside from DeBlanc not getting much of a sendoff last season, this episode may have given me a peculiar urge to kick Tom Brooke's bathroom door down.

Also, seeing him in the Ganesh makeup makes me think he should be cast as Boy George in something someday.

It's a fair limit on the voice, so hopefully it buys them some time. Having the Saint constantly on your tail is going to be hard to get anything done.

Although, the Saint clearly can be slowed. You could drive a truck into him.

Fiore did seem to be concerned that god was gone and did think that it was a good idea to find them. If Jesse just shut up about how "Genesis was meant for me" though. Genesis could have just been sick of being stuck in a coffee can and wanted to go on a joy ride.

I just watched Talking Preacher, and the writer they had on said there was a debate in the writer's room about whether or not Cassidy and Fiore had sex. He thinks they did because Cassidy would have sex anytime with anyone. I don't really see that, but whatever.

Just finished watching the first two episode s I thought I would weigh in to say OMG that was bloody and violent.  I'm watching primarily for Graham MacTavish (a.k.a. Dougal MacKenzie from Outlander) but damn -- that was some wanton carnage.  I've never read the comic so I wasn't really prepared for where this show was going.  (Apparently season 1 was all just set up and it is only now that the show is following the story in the comic book.)  This is just about the weirdest show I've ever watched (and I watched Twin Peaks.)

Thanks for this Interesting tidbit! I also think they did have sex, given the context. Cassidy did make a point to ask Fiore if he ever had sex with DeBlanc before fooling around naked with the fallen angel himself. What surprised me is that there was no clue that Cassidy would even swing that way, or did I miss it?

It never even occurred to me, but I saw that on Talking Preacher also, and everybody agreed that he did.  I guess I'm just not up to date.

I don't really like watching these "Talking" shows, but sometimes you can pick up an insight or two.

In the real world, women's Olympic teams practice against, and are routinely defeated by, local boys' high school teams.  In the TV world, tiny 110 lb. actresses possess this magical kung fu that enables them to destroy 300 lb. professional killers in hand-to-hand combat. Substitute Tulip for a 14 year old boy and you could see how silly and pandering was that scene of "badass" Tulip demolishing that giant strong-arm man.

And what is Tulip, anyway? A small time criminal? How did she get these martial arts super-powers?

Sorry, I know that the last thing 'Preacher' tries to be is realistic, but even so I'd like some explanation for Tulip's abilities, as fantastical in their own way as Jesse's and Cassidy's.

Ok, correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Fiore chose to do that.  He was sick of living, tried offing himself in various ways.  Finally decided to go to that casino (don't remember if it was really explained why THAT casino).  He electrocuted himself at a terrible show at the casino and when he came back out from behind the stage and everyone clapped he had a moment of feeling.... something.  I think it was that initial something that kept him there, but he wasn't even enjoying that anymore.  My guess is he COULD'VE left, he just knew that nothing and nowhere was going to really make him feel any better so he just stayed.  His only way out was the Saint of Killers.  I don't remember what happened to DeBlanc- but based on everything here it seems he was also killed by the SoK.

So long as Gary had Tulip by the neck, she couldn't fight him.  That's why she was desperately trying to grab something to hit him with.  Once Tulip hit Gary in the head (with that thing she had from the marriage chapel), and got loose, she tried to stay out of his reach, and moved faster than he did.  Gray swung at Tulip, she ducked, and then nailed him in the back of the leg.  When he buckled, she immediately began hitting him in the head with that object, and then she bashed his head into the wall.  When fighting an opponent twice your size, you better know martial arts, pressure points, have a gun (that you know how to use), something heavy to smack them in the head with, or be able to evade them and run like hell.

I remember thinking tulips fight was more realistic than most small women vs huge dude fights you see on tv. He was throwing her around like nothing and she was just too quick using whatever objects she could to do as much damage as possible in a short amount of time.

But anyways great episode the music montages were great both fiores first one and then cassidy and fiores one as well! Im sad that fiore is gone now but it makes sense why he would do it.

Funniest parts though were cassidy saying to use mineral water cause who knows whats in tap water and injecting fiore and him immediately coming back to which cassidy just said ok less heroin. Also the foreskin stuff again.. pretty much all the scenes with fiore and cassidy were my favorites!

She got her martial arts super-powers from the same place Jesse did - the writer's room.  Recall from the pilot the time he took down a room full of guys, finishing with the "screaming bunny."  In real life, if you're outnumbered by more than two to one, you're pretty much fucked in a fight (hell, at two-to-one most people are fucked).  Like you said, realism isn't really a thing here.  Tulip can beat the 300# dude the same way Jesse can beat room full of guys - through a writer-given fiat of baddassery.

To me, that's just a weird trope that makes no sense. I don't believe that everyone's preferences change the older they get. Cassidy seems pretty human to me, so to assume that he doesn't care who he has sex with just because he's been alive for 120 years, or whatever it is, seems silly. Not that it really matters though. I think since there was a debate about it in the writer's room, they probably just decided to leave it up for interpretation.

Also on Talking Preacher, they showed some interviews with the actor who plays Cassidy, and he is such a hoot! He was talking about how he had to shave his chest because they had to cover up some of his new tattoos for continuity, and then he was talking about Nair, and how he put it on his junk, which was a mistake, and he was just going on and on. It had nothing to do with the show, but was super funny. He definitely seems to have a bit of a manic personality like his character does.

I just want Cassidy to quit killing animals because I love him.  And I love animals.  And I don't like that he eats them.

You'd rather he ate people instead?  Besides, I'm eating an animal right now in the form of a Campfire Beef meal from Cracker Barrel.  That animal is delicious.  That corn's pretty great, too.  Cassidy's just a little more direct about getting his vittles than the rest of us are.  I'm cool with it.

As far as the vampire sexuality thing, maybe Cassidy was always bi.  Then again, maybe he's a bit like Sara Lance on Legends of Tomorrow who generally prefers women but can be interested in the right guy.  As for the trope, my take on it is, if you could live "forever" as long as you took your Vitamin A/B/AB/O and avoided tanning, wouldn't you be willing to try almost anything at least once with the idea of try it, you might like it?

do we know what happened to DeBlanc?

He was killed by the Saint in hell when he and Fiore went there to hire him to take out Jesse/Genesis. I think the Saint did it to prove he could literally kill anything, including divine creatures (and God.)

To answer an earlier question as to why the Saint was rekilling the same people over and over in Hell, that basically is his damnation. He was trying, in life, to save his family by riding to that town to get medicine for his daughter. Due to delays, by the time he got back both his daughter and wife were dead and being picked at by crows. In vengeance and despair, he returned to the town and slaughtered every last person in it, no matter who they were. These mortal sins condemned him to an eternity of living out the worst days of his life over and over again, finding no peace or rest, with no hope of being reunited with his loved ones. That's why he agreed to kill Genesis: the duo offered him a chance to see them again.

... ... ...

Wow, I want to party with Cassidy! That guy knows how to get you to open up. As to whether he and Fiore did the deed, according to the writers they did indeed, but that didn't seem to matter so much as Cass generating the closeness that Fiore was so desperate without. I stand staunchly by my theory that he and LeBlanc were the angel/demon duo that made baby Genesis (which is why they were stuck looking after it) but that doesn't mean they did it through human sexytimes means. They're basically divine and diabolical energy. Perhaps the fact that each became more important to the other than anything else in the universe is what generated Genesis and its chaos abilities.

I can certainly see why Fiore felt so desperate and lonely, and why finding peace meant an end to everything he could accomplish on his own. That last shot of him gazing up, to heaven, was amazing.

Say, speaking of exes and loneliness, I wonder if this Victor isn't just an ex-boyfriend but a NOT so ex-husband of Tulip's? And she never got around to actually filing any papers?

That van had to be traveling at least several hundred miles per hour in order to make it all the way from a side street to the bullet's path while the bullet was in flight. Unless it was a really slow bullet.

Awww, Fiore checked into the Mumbai because the Asian-ish theme reminds him of being with DeBlanc in Egypt. The first time he killed himself, I thought that maybe just a way to get cleaned up without having to take a shower. Wonder what he's doing with all of his old bodies. Maybe maid service is in for a shock when they open up the closet door. (Which reminds me of a hilarious story that Mom likes to tell about the hotel she used to work at, a maid who came from Haiti, and a bathtub full of slaughtered chickens. But I digress.)

Quick show of hands: Who else thought Cassidy was going to torture Fiore when he first showed up with the apron and propane torch? Just me? Ok then.

Apparently there's no sex quite like our-town-just-blew-up sex. And if you're going to propose,  how can you go wrong with pillow talk that includes the phrase "mushroom cloud of cow shit"?

Next time I check into a hotel, I want Fiore's suite. That was the most epic pillow fort ever constructed.

"This is crazy! Getting married in a theme hotel wedding chapel!" Yeah, like eleventy jillion other couples have done. And every one of them had the same conversation. And then Gary shows up. Nice combat moves with the chapel pager. I guess the Beatles were right; all you need is love! I bet Victor is gonna have some questions for Gary about those heart-shaped bruises all over his head and face when he reports in, assuming that he survives.

Laughing like crazy at the Musicalis Interruptus in the chapel. Does that mean the musicians were there in all of the other scenes with Indian music?

Yeah, all they have to do to find God is go to New Orleans. Unless, that is, God prefers something other than dixieland jazz.

Bye, Fiore. Looks like you and your incredibly expressive eyebrows are going to find out where dead angels go.

Oh, it was the first thing I thought. Cassidy's such a cheerful sociopath that it never occurred to me he'd go for carrot over stick.

Did you not love when Fiore brought up how Eugene's still in Hell and Jesse actually asked if it was really that bad? His expression was EVERYTHING. "YES, it's that bad, you inexplicably animated-with-an-immortal-soul sack of dust; it's HELL.  Dear God, even if you would listen to reason about Genesis I'd refuse to call off the Saint for that idiotic remark alone."

Question:  Why is is that SoK sometimes shows up within seconds when Preacher uses Genesis, and other times it takes him a few hours? He popped up immediately at the casino and within a couple of minutes at the gas station, but took his sweet time getting to the old preacher's place, with plenty of time for the sun to come up and for everyone to pile into the Tulipmobile and drive off.

It seemed to me that time had passed at both the casino and the gas station.  When he shows up at the gas station the sun seems visibly lower and it seems like at least some time has passed between Jesse "Genesising" Fiore to "Find Peace" and the SoK showing up to give it to him.

Possibly not since they're angels and all, but that look DeBlanc gave while calling Fiore "my dear" on the bus to Hell last season was more convincing evidence of true love than anything else I've seen on the show. Including Jesse and Tulip (and yes, I realize Cooper and Negga are actually a couple).
