Athena May 14, 2017 Share May 14, 2017 Quote Graham Norton guests are director Guy Ritchie and actor Charlie Hunnam, who talk about their new movie King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, actress Billie Piper on reprising her acclaimed role as Yerma at the Young Vic, and comedian Jason Manford on hosting new game show Bigheads. Imelda May performs her new single, Should've Been You. Link to comment
StatisticalOutlier May 21, 2017 Share May 21, 2017 The only one I knew going in was Guy Ritchie, so I wasn't sure how the show would go for me, but it was delightful. Charlie Hunnam is simultaneously kind of obnoxious and endearing/charming. I mean, just to say, "There's a clause in my contract that says I have to be the most handsome man on the set" would normally bug me, but it didn't. And I enjoyed them kind of gossiping about David Beckham. But Graham's "The 'gay' is silent" was truly memorable. 4 Link to comment
MissLucas May 21, 2017 Share May 21, 2017 That was quite entertaining, the Red Chair story is even more fun once you've seen Hunnam's interview with not-Jimmy Kimmel aka Kirsten Bell (it's right at the beginning). 1 Link to comment

I don't think the joke would have worked with anyone other than David Beckham. Guy Ritchie was off-putting to me. The gay gym thing (though it did give Graham a great comeback), the general homophobia—ugh. His movies bomb spectacularly, yet studios continue to give him massive amounts of money to make more. I loved Billie Piper's story about her favorite baby in her play. "He came to the wrap party." Hee. Imelda May's story was very funny. 2 Link to comment

Bruinsfan May 22, 2017 Share May 22, 2017 I mostly loved The Man from UNCLE, but nothing else Ritchie has done has appealed to me. And I was likewise very put off by him on this show. (It looked to me as if Billie Piper was too, at one point he did or said something that made her frown and sort of lean away from him in apparent revulsion.) Link to comment

Hey, I got a homophobic vibe from him, too. I didn't care for him. As far as his movies go, I can't remember all that he's gone, but I did enjoy the Sherlock Holmes movies, at least the first one. I didn't see Lock, Stock, and Barrel, but it was a hit, right? Quote I loved Billie Piper's story about her favorite baby in her play. "He came to the wrap party." Hee. That was very cute. I enjoyed her story too. I also liked Jason Manford's story about shoe-shopping with his kids. I thought Charlie Hunnam looked a bit like Channing Tatum. Link to comment

That's Hollywood: White men are the default choice for directors (and most everything else). Edited May 23, 2017 by dubbel zout 1 Link to comment

I love that movie. I loved it when it came out, because it was unlike anything I'd ever seen before; it's been much imitated since. Including by Ritchie his ownself, and more than once. Vinnie Jones was so freaking funny in it, and it launched Jason Statham. On 5/22/2017 at 11:38 PM, peeayebee said: Hey, I got a homophobic vibe from him, too. Me too, which I find puzzling. He married Madonna, you know? Not exactly your choice of bride if gay people squick you out, I'd think. I also didn't really appreciate his racist-adjacent tone (that I heard, ymmv) when making Imelda clarify if her family were travelers or, (wink wink) travelers. 4 Link to comment

This was a hit for an indie movie and made Ritchie and the actors in it famous. It is a fun movie and early Ritchie was different. Ritchie made a couple of critical and commercial flops, but it was when they gave him a shot of Sherlock Holmes when he started getting all these studios to give him money. 1 hour ago, attica said: Me too, which I find puzzling. Sting and Trudy Styler introduced them too. However pretentious those people are, I also find it puzzling they were friends with Ritchie. I do wonder if Ritchie was always this crass on the inside but hid it well to be successful. Now he's older and can afford to not care. I've noticed in the last ten years there has been a bigger trend of directors being on these chat/talk shows. Sometimes it's interesting (Danny Boyle with the T2 cast in a previous ep), but other times I'm left thinking if the directors are actually good at selling their films (Ritchie, Tarantino, David O Russell). I don't recall where I heard it, but I was under the impression that's one of many reasons they are no longer married. Ritchie was so weird to watch on this show. I am certainly not one to rag on awkward people because I'm super awkward, but he somehow managed to be super awkward on a chat show in a way that somehow gave the impression he thought he was doing a bang up job? It was puzzling. Usually when people are awkward in these interviews they're either obviously aware they're being awkward or just sort of neutral? Ritchie somehow gave me a cocky-awkward vibe that made absolutely no sense. Even when he wasn't saying especially cringey things, it was still cringey. 2 Link to comment
Spaceman Spiff May 25, 2017 Share May 25, 2017 I believe this airs quite a few weeks later in the states then it does across the pond, isn't that correct? I didn't really care for the couch this week except for Jason and Imelda, but I brought up the delayed airing here because I thought it was quite funny (since I don't care for either Charlie or Guy) that they were promoting their movie and how awesome it was but it was out for 2 weeks already here and tanked badly bringing in only 20+ million. Qoass May 25, 2017 Share May 25, 2017 Yeah, movies are released on different dates in different countries so that happens a lot. It's always a wee bit sad. Or funny. Link to comment

Bruinsfan May 25, 2017 Share May 25, 2017 (edited) On the awkward front, Ritchie obviously thought that painfully stilted sword presentation bit was a lot more clever and likely to be a hit with the audience than it actually was. Graham usually has good instincts about the pre-scripted bits for his guests (if they're cringeworthy they're at least also entertaining, like the stuff with McAvoy and Fassbender). I wonder if he foresaw how badly it was going to go and went ahead anyway because it would make Ritchie look like even more of an ass? Edited May 25, 2017 by Bruinsfan Link to comment
SmithW6079 May 29, 2017 Share May 29, 2017 I enjoyed this episode. I never realized Guy Ritchie is as attractive as he is. I liked the camaraderie between him and Charlie. I hated Billie Piper as the companion of two Doctors, and I'm still not a fan, although the show she was in sounded interesting. I thought Jason Manford's story of shoe shopping with his kids was hilarious. Link to comment
