S03 & S04: Nate: Militaristic

Nate

Nate served as an active duty Marine in the United States Marine Corps from 2006-2010 in the Infantry where he completed two combat tours in Iraq. He continued to serve for three years in the Reserves, and he was Honorably Discharged in 2013. Subsequently he received his Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement in 2014.

Nate was disappointed that, while he was stationed in Iraq on one of his two combat tours, his older brother had been arrested and was facing prison time again. He believes that the Criminal Justice System should be much tougher on criminals in order to dissuade them from returning, and he argues prisons should be more militaristic and less flexible when it comes to inmate liberties.

Pro-law enforcement, Nate wants to enter this program in order to help the Colonel toughen up his facility. An aspiring law enforcement officer, Nate hopes to understand the people that he will be putting away and possibly find a way to connect with his brother and the community.

The Colonel believes Nate’s tough stance on crime and his military background will allow him to blend in and help track down criminal activity inside the facility.

He's been blending in pretty well. Not too surprised.

Also, his status as an athletic blond white boy does seem to give him a little bit of "specialness" for some reason.

I was watching YouTube, "parents react to 13 Reasons Why" and Nate was one of the parents.  Lol. He was just as lame there.

Nate was a pleasure to watch in action on the show! My heart breaks for his family, especially his unborn child. 
 

I am glad he included in his final post the part about the pressing need of better mental health facilities, physicians and access to them for those who need help. Especially our veterans suffering from PTSD. Although gains have been made in these areas, much is left to be desired. Maybe one day in the not so distant future, one such post or letter will result in more strides being made swiftly.
