S06.E05: The Seven Year Itch

I didn't even think that woman was very much overweight at all. She was just not skinny. I don't view "hippo" as code for "fat" or even inherently connected to overweightness. Hippos will cut a bitch. They are fucking scary, more deadly than lions or jaguars or gators. The manner in which she literally bit that dude's head off did slightly remind me of the game hungry hungry hippos, but that's mostly just what hippos' jaw movements look like. A hippo would absolutely kill you, without hesitation and often without provocation. It's easily the first animal the comes to my mind if the scene calls for "halve a dude in one bite". If I were to accidentally find myself face to face with  wild animal, give me some large cat any day over a hippo.

Monroe's first name was given on the first episode he appeared in(the pilot maybe?).  He is a person of interest in the crime of the week.  So the detectives have his name and address and pay him a visit.  Pretty sure Ed, Eddie, or Edward was his first name.

I agree that the Female Wesen did not need to be a hippo.  She didn't bite off the cicada's head because she was hungry.  She bit it off to save herself and the detectives.  I also don't see why a cicada Wesen would be a party animal - other than he had 1 day every 7 years to enjoy life, so he did it hardy. However, where was the explanation as to why he didn't hibernate for 7 years as a pioneer? if he had, he never would have had time to be such as public figure.

I guess I might as well let it go, but the show has never explained to me why some Wesen have to follow their non-human nature even though they look outwardly human most of the time (Cicada Man, that spider woman who had to "eat" a man every so often or die, etc.), while others can choose to live like humans and not follow their animalistic nature if they don't want to, like Rosalee, Monroe (although he has had to work at it), Bud, etc.

Actually, the show has been fairly consistent in portraying the more dangerous types of Wesen to be violent in human form and the meeker Wesen to be quiet and innocuous like Bud. Bud acts very "beaver-like" in his mannerisms - very jittery and talkative. Monroe has explained he needs a steady vegan diet and uses pilates and meditation to control his violent impulses. I'm not sure how Rosalee's Wesen side manifests itself in human form, is she sly as a fox? Her brother was. On a show where continuity often takes a beating, that's one thing I can give Grimm credit for. They do a good job assigning specific personality types to various Wesen, especially in the guest casting.

No, it wasn’t cool that they made the fat lady a fucking HIPPO.

I honestly couldn't tell what she was supposed to be - her Wesen form came and went so quickly. I assumed she was some other form of grasshopper since she bit off her mate's head. I was surprised to hear her being described as a hippo when I started reading thru this thread.

That's what you call a "Grimm urban legend." Monroe's first (or last, as the case may be) name has never been uttered in any episode. I've read various online posts and articles that suggest it may have been in an early draft of the pilot script but it has never officially been part of the show.

I was coming here to say this. HILARIOUS that she was gone for a bunch of time, and nobody noticed or cared.

That pissed me off TO NO END. Poor girl can't find a date unless she's dinner. Sigh.

So, I'm guessing that the ring somehow protected Renard, since he looked at the hand where his ring used to be, when he found himself in that room. If so, it was really stupid of him to just hand it over.

I'm loving Dead Meisner. When he was alive, he was so serious. Dead Meisner is fun and sassy!

This!  This is why it made no sense not to have killed Juliette off at the end of s4 and leave her dead.  This character serves no purpose on the show.  I would much rather have awesome Meisner permanently around the Scooby gang, and Trubel never returns to town.

Guh. I finally get Diana and Adalalind talking about Meisner and he's dead. The family that could've been but never was.

I love how matter of factly Diana drops little bombs. 'Oh, and Eve is here. She's in the tunnels. She's been drawing on the walls. She doesn't feel very well.' And then did nothing to help her get out. Just kept doodling. And then got pissed when she was in her bed and was asking if she was gonna die. Love this kid.

Hank was speaking some truth to Nick about getting that stick far away from them and that maybe why it wasn't destroyed was because it couldn't be.

I like the guy's line to the woman when he was leaving to confront the Circadia guy in the bar 'Finding out where MY drink is.' And then poor guy got throat punched.

Nick is ever so courteous. He thanked the Hippo wesen for her help.

On one hand Meisner haunting Sean is not a bad storyline, but I wish it wasn't the only thing he was doing. Getting closure with Diana and/or Adalind would've been nice as well.

found it odd that Monroe and Rosalie didn't go to a wesen specialist doctor, just in case they were expecting something a bit different.

I did not appreciate the slightly overweight (by US tv standards) lady is a hippo analogy, though I liked the fact she saved the day.

I think the show completely forgot about the episode where we saw wesen doctors!
