I've been away from these forums for a while but I have returned!

So, it's finally time to buy a house here and I've been perusing the listings. I almost died when I came across this:

Has Leah become a real estate agent here in Silicon Valley??

I can't stand Corey and Leah's ableist bullshit anymore. Not just their behavior, which I think @SPLAIN said was worthy of CPS at this point (it is), but their attitudes. Corey's anti-science speech truly disgusted me and Leah's claims that it's Ali who's embarrassed are just crap. She wouldn't be embarrassed if they didn't make her embarrassed and treat her disability like something she should be ashamed of and/or pretend doesn't exist.

They are two uneducated hicks who somehow lucked out and got literally one of the world's top specialists as their doctor. They have no fucking clue how good they have it and how many disabled adults and kids would kill to go to someone like that but can't due to location or resources. And they think they know better than him? Please.

I could manage some sympathy at first but now their bigotry (yes, I see it as bigotry) is literally child endangerment.

I also thought Nathan's joy at seeing Kaiser in the car was real, if a little overdone for the cameras. He is far from a good parent, but genuinely seems to love the little guy, while Jenelle sees him only as a pawn. I think Nathan wants to treat Kaiser as a pet, spending a little fun quality time with him here and there, with no actual responsibilities. Jenelle just wants to have him in her care all the time, but never interact with him in any way. Total opposites.

I also wonder how deep his fear of UBT goes. I wonder if he goes home to barb's saying, "glad I don't have to live with them! They're crazy!", or if barb asks him if he had fun and he nods "yes" with a tight-lipped grin. I could totally see him being scared to say anything bad in case it got back to UBT, which makes me worry. If Jenelle ever did really try to get custody, I would hope Jace would feel comfortable telling the judge he'd prefer Barb.

What does UBT stand for?

Yeah, I agree. I'm torn because they clearly have a good relationship (although on Nathan's end it does seem at least partially performed for the cameras, as he certainly hasn't fought this hard for his off camera daughter, or maybe he's just one of those who likes boys better...), unlike what Jenelle has with Kaiser, but Nathan is also very dangerous and I fear for Kaiser if he drinks or uses steroids. Not that David and Jenelle aren't dangerous, because obviously they are, but I can understand why the judge has now not given him custody after 2 aggravated domestic violence charges, along with myriad others, within 5 months. He seems to have really gone off the rails (and fallen off the wagon, if he was ever on it) since the breakup with Jessica. But Jenelle could pick up the pipe again at any moment too. I don't know how judges make decisions in these cases. How the hell would you know which violent parent to place a poor child like this with?

The more I think about the custody agreement I wonder how dumb are they.  NOBODY is capable of constantly supervising anyone, sure being that Nathan only has him for weekends, it's a little bit more possible because it's a shorter amount of time, but if Kaiser is properly supervised I don't see an issue with someone else watching him for an hour or 2... if I were Nathan I'd ask barb to watch kaiser for an hour and see what Jenelle does with that.  Also Jenelles issue with Jace not getting to see Kaiser, what about the holidays next year when they switch and Nathan gets him for all of them (I'm aware there is no way that is going to happen, just playing devils advocate). I don't wish this on the children... but simply for Jenelles sake I can't wait for the first time they have all 4 kids (Marysa, Jace, Kaiser, Ensley)... jenelles gonna go crazy!

Chelsea and Cole were definitely trying to get pregnant, I don't understand why they felt the need to sell it as an "oopsie." They're a likeable couple in a stable relationship with a wedding around the corner. If you want to have a baby, have a baby. It's not like most fans of the show weren't going to be happy for them.

Regarding UBT, Jenelle and Jace, I thought Jace looked apprehensive in a lot of his scenes. Naturally he told Jenelle what she wanted to hear, but I wonder if he wished that Barb did go on the trip as some sort of safety net. I shiver at the thought of being alone with those two idiots, I can't imagine how a helpless child would feel.

Agree to all of this.

Re Jenelle and Jace, he mentioned some things to Barb on camera last season. I have no doubt Dave watched those scenes and became pissed.  I can see him brow-beating Jace for saying things to Barb about what goes on at their house. He probably also told Jace to not tell Barb anything about what goes on in their house when Jace is visiting.

2 hours ago, Christina87 said:

Another thing that bothers me about Jenelle is that not only is Kaiser often in someone else's care, but Nathan KNOWS this! If she took him to court because his mother watched Kaiser for a few hours, guess what? Nathan was just at her house the other day when David's mother was watching him! Also, he and his mother could document all the times Jenelle called her and asked her to take Kaiser for a week because she couldn't handle him. It's not like all these people are watching him on the sly, while Nathan thinks he's in her care 24/7!

this makes me think she's really just scared of Dave. DAVE is pushing things like this, and legitimately does not have the reasoning skills to think things through. Jenelle thinks she's better agree with him to avoid drama, when she is totally capable of realizing that her court case would not be very substantial.

Nathan did mention in the Weekend at Corey's special how he keeps tabs on everything regarding Jenelle's scenes so he can use it in court.  I can see Nathan mentioning all of those times Kaiser was dropped off at his mother's home and at David's mother's home. But, as we know, MTV highly edits the show and editing can be used as an excuse for many things that happen on the show. That is why Leah got away with the shit she did. He also has a police record, he didn't really pursue custody of Kaiser, it took him a long time to acquire a car seat and other essentials, and he doesn't have custody of his first child. That doesn't look good to the family courts.

@ChocolateAddict, exactly. Leah seems to treat the helmet and wheelchair as a punishment or act like she's being "naughty" for falling over, while Corey praises her for being able to do things like ride a bike and pushes her to continue, which is what is causing the quick deterioration/falling to begin with. That is not tough love or "giving her hope." It's just teaching her to hate herself and her disability and to look at her disability as some kind of punishment from God or a sign of her own inadequacy.

Why can't Corey get her interested in activities other than bike riding and T ball? Experiment, try different things she could do from a wheelchair. There's plenty. And why can't Leah treat the helmet as something fun or at least just necessary, or put the other girls in helmets too when they're doing something like the slip and slide? She's a little kid, she doesn't know to be embarrassed about her differences unless someone is forcing her to be.

I really just don't see any love between jenelle and her children. It's so sad that she is on her 4th kid (including abortion) with 4 different fathers and she is only about 24 ( and yes I am judging) . All of these girls spit out babies like it's  their job. But jenelle does a fine job of making the rest of the girls look good because she is the worst of the worst. At this point, getting jace back full time isn't going to happen and it shouldn't. The kid is about 6 years old and living in a stable environment. It wouldn't be right to pull him out now. Especially given how Jenelle doesn't even spend time with the kids she does have. Someone is always babysitting for them.

It really boggles the mind, doesn't it? Why Jenelle and people like her, who don't seem to love anyone but themselves, keep having kids they don't really want to raise. I'm guessing there are a variety of reasons why she keeps getting pregnant: too lazy to use birth control (It makes me gain weight!), thinks it legitimizes her relationship to loser of the moment, thinks loser of the moment will stay because of baby, she will make the "perfect" family, she wants to stick it to everyone with her "perfect" family, she think the baby will be "hers" and will adore and idolize her, the baby is someone she can control or use to control others, and so on and so forth and what have you. It is really freaking sad that such a cold, heartless dead fish of a person can pop kids out like she does.

Exactly @Lm2162.  I've worked with kids who have a range of disabilities and (generally) when a child feel inadequate is when they have been pushed towards an activity that isn't realistic for their ability.  If Ali is encouraged to do highly physical activities, she will likely fail due to no fault of her own but of her parents who should have known better.  They just set her up for failure.

It sounds terrible when I say it but not all children can participate in non-modified sports.  There are so many people (myself included) who are passionate about getting kids integrated into mainstream sports and if not, createing alternative and modified options.  Corey and Leah seem to be taking the attitude that if Ali can't do dance/cheer/baseball she can't do anything.  There are more sports than those!  Why not choir (IIRC she did it last season) or drama or act classes or bowling or if she does want to play sport, look at some kind of hydrotherapy where she can swim.  Why can't Ali be in her chair and Gracie riding a bike?

The reality is that Ali's disability will stop her from participating in some activities.  This doesn't mean that she will never have a fulfilling life!  There are so many other, safer, options that Corey and Leah aren't investigating.  For Ali, it would seem like a punishment that her two other sisters can do dance and cheer but she only gets to go to medical appointments.  Leah posted the "schedule" a few months back where the activities were basically all for Gracie and Addie.

Obviously Ali's condition isn't all sunshine but it doesn't have to be doom and gloom.  Maybe they could ask if they could decorate her chair, or her helmet or find out if there are support groups around.  One of my best friends has cerebral palsy and he hates that sort of thing but maybe Ali would benefit from meeting other kids in a wheelchair.  Corey or Leah could sit with Ali and brainstorm activities she could do and look them up on the internet together.  I'm not even a parent nor have a met this kid and I can think of 50 different ways to help her feel better about her own abilities!

The scene with Aubree and Chelsea was adorable. I may have shed a tear. Someone upthread mentioned that she already is a big sister to Paislee, which is true but this baby will be living with her full time. She and Paislee only see each other whenever Adam feels like playing daddy. Was that Adam's mom that dropped Aubree off? Chelsea also seems close to her production, they all seemed genuinely happy for her. That crew lucked out. She may be annoying with her baby voice but I'd follow her around any day of the week instead of Jenelle.

Speaking of the lovely Jennelle, did she seem off in the scene when her and UBT were talking in the kitchen? She was going over the custody agreement and just the way she was speaking, it seemed like she was on something. She was speaking very slow, like she was half asleep. Of course, it could be my imagination. My heart breaks for cute, chubby, little Kaiser. The poor kid gets passed around more then a football.

Well, yes and no.  It recorded for 33 minutes and the first 30 is some episode on how the show Catfish is made.  The last couple of minutes are an old Teen Mom 2 episode.  The previously on part of that episode shows backpack-gate, Adam not going to the dance, Jenelle's million mysterious symptoms, and Vee and Kail's lunch after a Kail and Javi Facetime fight.

when Leah first found out (mind you, she was very, very young at the time) I remember her crying about how Ali wouldn't "be normal" & "play softball."  I think she grew up as a popular/cheer/jock girl and that's what "everybody" did.  It makes me wonder if she had an overweight or artsy (as opposed to athletic) kid, would she be judging them as well?

Also my love for Corey is slowly going down. MD/Any disability isn't going to be cured by good thoughts and "proving people wrong". I think Corey fundamentally does not understand the disease. He thinks it's like "use it or lose it," and that by staying active, Ali will build up her muscle strength, when in fact the opposite is true. Expecting these people to actually read and learn about how the disease works is giving them too much credit. I love Corey, but he's not the type to spend his weekends reading and researching. I'm sure Dr. Tsao and other doctors have explained this many times, but people cling to irrational beliefs very stubbornly where their hearts are concerned. I see signs that it is finally sinking in with Leah, very slowly, but even in her case, she views it as a failure. Both of these people really need someone to sit down with them and go through it with pictures and plain language, explain what the disease does to the body, how it progresses over time, and give them some practical tools for how to adapt their family lives to accommodate it. And keep explaining it until they both understand.

Leah sees the world from Leah's perspective, where the most important things are cheer and sports, and anything else is second rate. Both of them need to pry open their minds and consider a different point of view on the whole thing. There are TONS of ways a parent and child can get support now for living a fun, rewarding life with a disability. Leah is making small progress, but the slip-n-slide was painful to watch. That was not a happy day for anybody and they were all just pretending for the cameras. Nothing MTV is doing helps with this family crisis, and it probably makes it worse. One could even say they are showing us how a family should NOT handle a child with this disease.

He's always like this. I think he has some fun with them, but his guard is up and he knows he can't totally be himself over there or say what he really feels. It's so sad.

Regarding the timeline of this episode, it looks like Jenelle went to Florida around June 17th so she was around 8 weeks pregnant at that point. Im assuming she knew she was pregnant at this point or is she like Maci and didn't know until 21 weeks?

I think she knew. I could see a rounded belly in several of her scenes. This is her 3rd to term baby and she has a very small frame, so she's going to show really early and be pretty obvious this time around.

when Leah first found out (mind you, she was very, very young at the time) I remember her crying about how Ali wouldn't "be normal" & "play softball."  I think she grew up as a popular/cheer/jock girl and that's what "everybody" did.  It makes me wonder if she had an overweight or artsy (as opposed to athletic) kid, would she be judging them as well?

I think that's very likely. Notice Gracie is into cheer. The do t-ball or softball or whatever. On the one hand, it's kind of normal for kids to do things their parents did, want to be like mom or dad. But sometimes kids just have their own ways, and I really don't see Leah fostering dreams and talents outside the norm. With cheer, especially, I feel her living vicariously though Aleeah. Even with the water play; they could do things that don't require running. Just get a big pool and floating chairs. Buy water guns. Get paddles. The girls could paddle around and shoot each other with the guns. That wouldn't require any standing or running for Ali.

I try really hard to empathize with her parents, because that cannot be easy. And you know, not all doctors are right. That's why people get second opinions. I'm not saying Dr. Tsao is wrong about Ali. Quite clearly not. But, as a parent, I think I can understand having doubts. Wanting to cling to hope. Wanting to make your child happy. Praying your child IS that one who defies the odds. So yes, I can see their side a tiny a bit (although, this more applies to Cory, who I see as well meaning but ignorant - while Leah strikes me more as someone who uses her child's disadvantage for sympathy and attention, but wishes it would go away when it means more work for her.) But then I look at poor little Ali falling over and over and I just feel so sad for her. Her parents are her main advocates in life and they've got to step it up and help her embrace what life has given her.

Well he doesn't have to read anything. He just has to listen to the medical professional they have been traveling a great distance to see for the past several years.  What is the point in going all that way to see a doctor if you aren't going to listen to him?  Seems like a waste to me.

I've also noticed that Jenelle tends to swell up in her face and body very early on in pregnancy. Her calves looked really thick when she had her legs up in the car, so I agree the signs were so obvious she had to have known she was preggers.

I have no doubt many medical professionails have spent lots of time explaining Ali's disease to Leah and Corey. They spend hours in the hospital each time, they have nurses, social workers, case workers, as well as the doctor. They are just too stupid and stubborn to listen.

I have always felt that the reason Jenelle keeps having children boils down to one thing.  Keeping her man?  Good theory and maybe so, but I have another one.  I think it is important for Jenelle to be seen as a good mom, especially since she's on a show all about her being a parent.  Jenelle had to give Jace up and has never been able to get her life together enough to get him back.  All the other Teen Moms are a shit show too, but they at least have their children.  Not Jenelle.  I think she had Kaiser and now the new one....to show people that she can be a mom and a good one.

Of course, it back fires because Jenelle just proceeds to be a hot mess to another baby...and when the baby girl arrives, another one.

I agree and I think if she weren't still doing the show and facing judgment, Kaiser would've been dumped a long time ago.

Because the thought of having a baby is something she think will keep the guy of the month around.. it's collateral for her. That and when she gets pregnant she thinks of it as something that will bond her and the guy but doesn't realize that shell actually have to take care of a baby after she gives birth

Why would she think that?

(how do I edit?)

as to my comment above- I was referencing why would she think she would have to take care of any child she births.
