Reed Morano's win was as delightful as Ann Dowd's whose win I least expected. I suspected Writing and Moss on Sunday night but the other wins totally unexpected.

I hope the streak continues to the Globes and SAGs awards. 

I don't know about eligibility, so I wonder if Alexis Bledel can be a contender in any of those races given her Guest status.

NARAL is using the image and slogan from The Handmaid's Tale for their latest button. They also have nolite te bastardes carborundorum shirts! There's a black shirt, a red shirt, and a collection of other products (the collection has the word "bitches" at the end - there are water bottles, phone cases, coffee mugs, beach towels, notebooks, and several different types of bags).

wow, there's a huge time gap between the Emmys and the GG's!

It's because of where they have their cut off dates. To be eligible for a 2017 Emmy nomination, the show had to air between June 1, 2016, and May 31, 2017. To be eligible for a 2018 Golden Globe nomination, the show had to air between January 1, 2017, and December 31, 2017. The different cut off dates are also why S7 of Game of Thrones didn't get any Emmy nominations this year (people were freaking out because they didn't realize that it didn't begin airing until six weeks after the deadline so it wasn't eligible for the 2017 Emmys but it will be eligible for the 2018 Emmys).

I wonder whose funeral that is. The red ribbons on the crosses suggest a Handmaid, but I thought they got sent to the colonies if they couldn't produce a baby after three "placements" or killed and hung up on the wall if they transgressed in any way. Maybe it's for a Handmaid that died in childbirth? As far as Gilead is concerned, that's probably the only "noble" way for a Handmaid to die.

My guess is that the funeral is for a handmaid who fulfilled her duty to the course. Maybe they even bore multiple children or died at childbirth. 

A Handmaid had to have been extraordinary to warrant a funeral

I will not watch this show or any of EM's work because of this. I just can't in good conscience, knowing that Scientology is an oppressive, destructive, fraudulent, greedy and vile cult, led by a psychopath. The irony is palpable and truly depressing.

She has ultimately made her own choice to continue in that religion. Religion is a choice, and one that should be made freely. I disagree with the concept of participating in a religion simply because you were "born into" it.

All religions have a "dark side" for lack of a better term. Scientology is no different from the rest in that respect. I would, on a personal level, prefer that the lead actress in this show was not a Scientologist, but I do appreciate how low-key she keeps it - it doesn't seem to affect anything outside of her own personal life - and I certainly wouldn't discriminate against the show for having an actress of a certain religion.

Of course, anyone/everyone is free to boycott a TV show if the people involved (or even just one person involved) do not meet their approval for any reason. However, as Umbelina stated, you are missing out on a great show - and I am curious as to what you were doing in the forum if you don't watch the show? Everyone is welcome, but I certainly don't have that much time on my hands ;)

The problem is, Scientology isn't a religion and doesn't just "have a dark side". It is an evil, destructive cult that is based on greed and intimidation. It was created by a nutjob science fiction writer, whose "teachings" are complete and utter nonsense, not to mention misogynistic, homophobic, and abusive. Its current leader is a violent, abusive man, and again, a nutjob. I've read and seen a lot about the subject, including every episode of Leah Remini's show Scientology and the Aftermath. How anyone with half a brain and half a conscience could be a member of this hideous organization is far beyond my comprehension.

I came on this forum because ads for the show with EM's face keep popping up on my screen, and it made me curious to see if her connection to Scientology had been mentioned. It took me a few minutes. I come on this site and look at many different forums as a way to wind down, as I'm sure many people do. 

The show looks interesting - it may or may not be something I would enjoy, but my instinct tells me I would like it and appreciate the skill and talent that goes into making it. But as I said in my first post, the palpable irony of the star of a show about a dystopian future where women are oppressed and treated like baby-making machines being a member in good standing of an oppressive, greedy, fraudulent, disgusting cult is too much. I truly hope she opens her eyes, and soon.

As a Canadian, I'm tickled pink that a series filmed in Canada, with a number of Canadian actors and actresses (admittedly in minor roles), based on a book written by a Canadian, and even featuring a minor storyline set in Canada, is getting so much award love.

On another note, the S2 trailer looks gorgeous.

I'm less clear on how anyone with half a brain and half a conscious can get sucked in as a adult. If you've been raised in something like this, though, it's really easy not to see the damaging sides. If you've never known anything else, it's normal, and if they're doing a good job making sure everyone is properly indoctrinated, then there are answers and rebuttals to anything negative you might happen to come across about it, specifically intended to make sure you keep trusting what you've been taught all your life and distrusting anyone who suggests it might nt be so great. If it were so easy for a reasonable person to see the harm and walk away from it, cults in general would be a non-existant problem.

But I fully concur with your final sentiment.

Fair points. Leah Remini has talked extensively about how those raised in Scientology are indoctrinated hard core and there is always an answer for everything. The problem is, those answers are lies, smoke and mirrors. It usually takes a trigger, something egregious that wakes someone up to the realization that something is not right. Once that happens and the person finds the courage to break free, they often suffer a lot of guilt and shame over what they supported, and often what they actively participated in. The cult works hard to shelter members from the press, internet, etc. It's against their doctrine to read or listen to anything "bad" said about Scientology. In fact, if they do hear a negative thought or opinion from someone, they must report it. And then the person who said something bad will be punished.

That's just the tip of a sick, twisted iceberg. I can understand how those tactics may have been more successful back in the pre-internet age, but now, when information is so readily available, it's very hard to believe that these celebrities haven't heard or read what's really going on.

I think that (at least in famous actors' cases) if they were born into it?  They are FAR more protected by TPTB in Scientology, they don't see the worst of it, by far.  Also, if you love your parents/family?  Breaking away from it completely would end all of those relationships.  It's coercion and a type of blackmail.  They are prohibited from research as well...

At least she's not out there promoting it (at all) and she appears to dearly love her parents.  A case of "don't rock the boat" and a large chunk of denial maybe?

I have no use for any organized religion. Scientology takes it far beyond just indoctrination though. Truly sad and horrifying stuff.

Reviews have started rolling in. My take is that it shouldn't be binged. I do hope they there is light at the end of the tunnel.There is only so much darkness this show can sustain

So far I have checked and Bravo hasn't put it on Sunday's lineup as of yet (I checked this morning through rogers cable box).  But they do have a 2 hour blocked time on Sunday night that states "TBA".  Hopefully that's it.

It's on Hulu, not Bravo.  Unless something has change that I'm unaware of.

Since you have Rodgers, I assume you are Canadian. I am subject to the Bell Overlords, and my DVR shows one new episode recording 10-11.06, with two more eps (titles not specified) recording from 11.06 pm and 1.17 am (Atlantic time).

I knew licensing rights between Canada and the US can be confounding. But I am glad that we Canadians can watch this show without a Hulu subscription.
