S08.E04: Maddie Gets Married

When Maddie asked Kody to perform the ceremony, didn't he question being able to? Didn't she say something about an official ceremony that would take place after?

All these girls need to step away - far away - from home hair dye!!!   They keep coloring - so the ends have absorbed way too much over time.   The colors look so harsh (not Aspyn), but Mykelti, Mariah and Maddie all look bad.

Where was Logan and his girlfriend?  Also what is wrong with Caleb's face during the talking head segments, he looks all swollen.  Wedding was quite the extravaganza, not polygamist at all!  Poor Savannah, spoke like she hardly knew Maddie, (not part of the ceremony but a sister from the same mother, guess that's special).

I'm not a blond, but it seems that the constant coloring of light hair to make it dark would eventually fry their hair beyond help.  This is why I think Aspyn is the most naturally beautiful of all the girls - her hair and skin are gorgeous.  Perhaps Mykelti started to dye her hair so she'd stand out from a posse of blond sisters, who knows.

Right? Any time someone wants to drastically deviate from their natural color, it's best to seek a professional and KEEP that person because they know what's been done to their hair. There's a lot more that goes into coloring than choosing a shade and opening a box.

Yes, that little moment with Savannah broke my heart.  She seemed left out and lost, disappointed and hurt to not be included.  In a casual ceremony such as Maddies there is no reason that she couldn't have a role to allow her to stand out among the others.

You're probably right, but those couch scenes ("Mariah will find the right person") are filmed after the season is shot. She could've actually come out to the on camera.

I thought that Maddie had corrected her hair to a real dark brown - until she walked out into the sun. The top of her head is orange. Been there done that when going from blonde to brown. But a big YES - I did that myself and never again. They've all way over corrected to crazy dark hair. Aspyn for the win.

Agreed. Caleb's entire family seems lovely, and I enjoyed all their interactions together. Given the way he stepped up for his sister when she lost her husband and wanted to be closer to his mama in her final days, I think this is a guy Maddie can truly count on.

I'm pretty sure I saw Logan off to the side in one scene or another. Also, when taking the huge family shots, I thought I saw his girlfriend on the far left. I assumed Logan was standing next to her, but the family is so damned big, they couldn't even get them all in the frame. I thought I saw Tony on the right, so I assumed they did a "family" shot that included significant others.

I've heard some people say they think Caleb and Maddie were already married before this ceremony. When Erika got upset she mumbled something about the flowers being her moms, and when Calebs older brother told him his wedding day is the happiest day followed by when he holds his baby- made me think maybe they were already wed and perhaps preggars. IF Maddie has a full sized baby born miraculously months early then we will have confirmation.

Logan escorted Janelle to her seat. They also showed him in the crowd during the "knighting" ceremony. I'm not sure I could pick his girlfriend out of a line up, so I don't know where she was in that mob of people.

Sure but my gut says no. Mariah would do that privately with her parents first.  I think they have known for a long time. TLC might stage it though as I mentioned.

i think she may be telling them she wants to drop out of college and attend culinary school or something.  It does make sense for her to come out officially since her SM has let that cat out of the bag!  So could be.  I am torn clearly!

I saw Logan and his girlfriend in the audience.  Logan had a proud big-brother smile on his face.  I maintain my stance that Logan turned out to be a great young man not because of Kody, but in spite of him.

On the topic of Savannah, I wonder how deeply it wounded her that Truly was the flower girl.  It seems that Maddie could've had both Savannah and Truly as flower girls.  In fact, Savannah could've walked down with King Sol to keep him in line instead of having to watch Meri run alongside him halfway down the aisle.

The attached picture of Maddie and Caleb highlights the tummy.  The picture is from November, and the People article says she's due in May.  She looked a good 5 months along . . . not the 3 they said she was.

I think she is going to have an eight pound "miracle baby".  No way is she only 3 months along.  I had an eight pound "miracle baby" myself so no big deal, but she didn't look pregnant in her gown.

I would love to see Maddie layer her hair and let it be curly.  Even diffuse it to make it as big as possible. She is very pretty in some angles and lighting and other times her forehead screams for bangs.  

Am I projecting or does anyone else get the feeling that Robin really did not want another baby?  She did it for Kody is what I think.  A baby ties you down and I bet she sees less of Kody since her birth. Hunch. 

Is it time for a new favorite wife?  I don't mean #5.

Maddie and Caleb looked very happy and in love!  I think they make a good couple.   

(In a quiet voice)   I didn't really think Maddie looked so good.  She tried  to make a traditional gown Bohemian with some jewelry and sandals?  She looked sloppy and her hair color was a problem  (sorry, don't hate me)

I'd buy that was 3 months if it were a subsequent baby. But a first baby??? Eh, I don't think so. At 3 months with my first I just looked bloated. My pants didn't fit very well. But I honestly didn't really have a noticeable bump until 6 months. I know everyone is different, but that's been the case for most people I know.

Again like the bridal shower, there does not seem to be a lot people in attendance.  How does Mykelti have 400 people at her wedding?  That Elk cake was unbelievable.  I guess Maddies baby is a "honeymoon baby"!  Anyone else notice Kody's look of disgust when Christine yelled out about  the cake " it looked fricken live, I couldn't eat it"

You know what was creepier?  I freeze framed a shot of Kody's journal, and the title of the page was "Caleb + Maddie's Wedding."

I do give him credit for very nice printing, however.  Never would have imagined that level of discipline.

I thought the wedding itself (minus the officiant nonsense) was lovely, and it worked for me.  Assuming the heat wasn't oppressive, it seemed like a great day for everybody. If she was pregnant, morning sickness would account for the weight loss and not eating -- she looks like she had lost more weight before the belly bump picture posted above was taken.  

My only catty remark will be to say that if you're going to use whitening strips, you need to do your bottom teeth, too.

I agree Meri shouldn't have shouted out about the rings. It made the end of their already bizarre ceremony especially awkward and uncomfortable.

It's also why you want a good officiant who has already presided over a lot weddings. At my sister's wedding, her officiant was on top of all these things, even using his experience to help her stage the ceremony so everything went smoothly and without a hitch.

At the request of long-time, dear friends who were planning to marry, I became a Universal Life minister so i could officiate. I am not terribly religious but I swear I did a better and more dignified job than Kody. It really is not hard to treat the occasion appropriately. Caleb's dad must have been cringing at advising Kody who is acting the dick while dealing with the emotions of his wife not being there. Ugh.

I tried to find the post to quote it but failed.  I agree with the poster who said they probably were married before this wedding.  I think Caleb's dad married them when they saw mom's health failing quickly so she could be there.  That is why he did not officiate this one. It wasn't because his wife had just died.  This was posted before the pregnant pic. 

I also agree that her not being able to eat could be related to morning sickness. Like it only happens in the morning. Sheeesh. That had to be started by a man. 

The rings are usually important, especially to the bride.  They had already done that so not a big deal to them.

I hope that Caleb and Maddie were either married before or after the ceremony in something that was less Kody-ish. Didn't we know Maddie was likely living with him for a while? It wouldn't be exactly surprising if she had the proverbial giant preemie

As a Brit I didn't feel offended by the "Knighting" or anything but confused. I mean why? It's a "boho/gypsy" wedding with groomsmen in ultra casual. If it was a ren faire themed wedding I could see the point even but it was just weird here. It doesn't confer manliness on you, these days its as likely to mean that you're a 70/80s rock star who has managed to avoid overdosing long enough to be considered "a national treasure" as anything else.

If it is indeed true, I can't see them (and maybe even her) knowing before she went to college at least, although that was a couple of years ago now. For the record:  with my mom passing from cancer in 2004, my daughter and her intended had a ring covenant ceremony in December and then the official wedding in May 2005.  The pastor who performed the covenant also co-officiated the wedding and 'finished' what he started.  That was 12 years ago, they are still married with four kids, a herd of goats, a flock of chickens and a bunch of rabbits. And....  my daughter was pregnant with the now 10 year old about six weeks after the wedding.  

I think these two, Caleb and Maddie, will be fine.  They live far enough away from the Brown family drama and can take the small doses at their leisure.  Montana isn't close by.  I like their relationship.

Maddie looked beautiful! I too think she looks better blonde, as does Mykelti.  They are all pretty girls, just the hair color does not suit them.  And Mariah's dark lipstick.  Yeesh. 

 

I loved Truely's twirl and drop too.  So cute! She seemed so excited! 

Kody did horrible. I was embarrassed. I had to FF through his rambling. He would look so much nicer if he cut his hair shorter.

I just can't w/Kody.  He is such an ass.  He's an embarrassment to the entire family - and to hear the "wives" defend him is laughable.   Janelle's speech was more of a "yeah, I had to leave for two years, but I came back and settled for a rotten life".    I'm so glad none of the kids seem to be drawn to the plyg lifestyle. 

One question - didn't Maddie worry that she would step on something with the sole-less sandals?   She was walking on bark at one point, and I was waiting for her to scream after stepping on something.

Janelle's "toast" was like a silent-scream, stream-of-consciousness monologue. I hope Nancy the Therapist was watching and listening. When Janelle said that someday soon Maddie would be thinking, "Who are you people?", all I could think was, should Maddie be so unlucky to have those feelings, at least it  would just be, "Who is this PERSON?" 

Maddie looked so gorgeous and happy. She and Caleb seems very calm and happy together. I wish them well!

I don't see that at all!  They both are very clear they don't want that for themselves.  Caleb said he enjoys Maddies  family and like that both families get along so well.  He said polyg is not for him, no judgement, just not his cup of tea.

Michelle, Logan's girlfriend, delivered the handwritten notes Maddie wrote for her parents. They showed her giving Kody his.

I think Robyn wanted another baby. When they were trying to get money for My Sisterwives Closet, she said they needed more resources because she wanted to have a baby and couldn't continue doing everything by herself. 

However, she seems to have less heart eyes for Kody as he's probably giving her less attention than she got when Sol was born with Meri and the catfish, weddings, etc.

I saw Mykelti did that too! I was thinking, what are you doing?! Never do a color job the night before! Same with Caleb. I thought beard trim should have been before the day of wedding.  Just my nitpick!!

I think Kody's over the top involvement in the wedding was completely producer driven, rather than a choice of Maddie and Caleb. Those two know where the paycheck comes from; Maddie already sold her soul a while ago and Caleb cashed in as soon as he put the ring on Maddie's finger. Caleb puts up with Kody hanging all over him and pawing at him because he gets paid to. Maddie has been very vocal from the beginning that she does not want to live polygamy and nothing in Caleb's background suggests he would convert. I'm pretty sure Maddie would kick his ass if he even suggested it. That whole "I forgot my chinos" bit shows Caleb is a lousy liar so I don't even think they will try to fake a story line about a possible plyg marriage.

And I liked Caleb's joke.  Hubby is a prankster and he would do that.

Just when I thought Kody couldn't be a bigger asshat, he managed to top himself. When he was reading that letter out loud, he sounded like a second grader sounding out the big words.  No offense to all the second graders who are smarter than him.
