On Graham's sofa are Oscar-winner Nicole Kidman and Best Exotic Marigold Hotel star Dev Patel, who appear together in new movie Lion. Joining them are Oscar-nominee Felicity Jones of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, comedian and author Dawn French, promoting new TV drama series Delicious, and Sir Michael Parkinson, who discusses his book Muhammad Ali: A Memoir. There is music from Jack Savoretti who performs Only You.

God, Nicole is a big, dull dud.  And not very quick on the uptake.  Just as in her last appearance with Hugh Bonneville and Julie Walters, witty comments from Graham and other guests just go over her head.

And what in the Hell has she done to her face?

Poor Nicole: it looked to me like she'd botoxed her upper lip too recently, and was having some trouble forming word-shapes with just her lower lip.

God help me, Dev is foxy as hell with the long hair.

Was Jack Savoretti doing an homage to the late Joe Cocker, or is that his usual deal?

I found it strange that Nicole Kidman didn't mention that she is the mother of two adopted children, considering the film/role she was promoting. I wonder whether she can't talk about it for reasons related to $cientology &/or her divorce from Tom Cruise.  Dawn French mentioned her adopted child/ren.

I have read that her two children with Tom Cruise have "disconnected" with her because of Scientology.  It must be a very painful subject for her. This happens a lot between Scientologist and their families.  I have been watching Leah Remini's show about Scientology on A&E and it is heartbreaking to see how many families have been torn apart because of this organization.

I used to DREAD her appearances on Letterman because she was a black hole guest....incredibly reserved and withdrawn, awkward etc. (Robert DeNiro and Harrison Ford are similarly deadly.) Then I saw her on Charlie Rose and in that format she was engaging and intelligent....I actually do think she is an introvert who finds these happy-fun-show milieus hard. If you can believe it, her Graham Norton appearances are much better than her late night American chat shows because of the presence of othe guests, and Graham, to lighten the mood.

I hope us Americans get access to the Dawn French/Iain Glen series at some point.

I think that's the case. What a shame. She even began to discuss how the maternal instinct is as strong in women who adopt as to those who give birth, and then seemed to stop herself, and then Dawn piped in to agree.

Dawn French has the most lustrous hair. I'm totally envious.

I'm pretty good with accents, but I found Sir Michael Pilkington difficult to understand. He swallowed a lot of his words. The clip with Ali was amazing.

Nicole Kidman should talk to Peter Capaldi about embarrassing modeling photos being shown by Graham. Hee.

dubbel, I had trouble understanding Sir Michael too & usually I'm good with UK accents. Earlier yesterday or perhaps the day before I'd seen Nicole on Actor on Actor with Casey Affleck and she seemed much more comfortable. She wasn't completely chatty but she did seem much better with one on one. And as far as I know she didn't have any prior relationship to Affleck so it was a cold one on one & she did much better with it.

Kidman also comes off much better in her print interviews. I once read a very intelligent interview where her and the author discussed her childhood and love of literature at length. She always has seemed to be very reserved in the live talk show appearances.

It is very sad about her disconnection from her adopted children from her marriage with Cruise. I don't think she got primary custody from the divorce, and the children drifted away from her as they became older and more into Scientology. It was known that Kidman was bad for Cruise's scientology so they were more than happy to help him get custody and bring the children back into the fold.

It's really amazing to see Patel change and grow as an actor on films.

Ditto to understanding Sir Pilkington. I'd never heard of him before either. I didn't know Ali was semi-literate.

I had wondered by Nicole didn't mention her own adopted children. I hadn't considered the Scientology disconnect reason.

I want to see Lion and also Dawn French's new show.
