Johanna Johnson talks about season 4B. Amongst the interview:

  • Jesus' trauma to the brain will result in physical, mental, and personality changes
  • Callie will continue to seek justice for Kyle and it could result in severe consequences
  • Brandon seeks redemption for his actions leading to his acceptance to Julliard getting revoked
  • Mariana goes to therapy

So it sounds like Jesus will go down a darker path this season as he recovers, Callie MIGHT get actual consequences for her reckless actions (I guess going back to juvie is a part of that), and Mariana deals with what happened to her brother.

And it seems as though dealing with all of this will mostly fall on Lena. Are we in for another half-season of fighting/bickering moms? No, thanks.

I wish I could quit this show because I hate Brallie and there's no way they're going to not end up together.

And from TV Guide:

http://www.tvguide.com/special/winter-preview/gallery/returning-winter-shows-where-we-left-off/photo/2dd13f61-b56e-413d-b4b6-088c89fc5def/?ftag=twtrsoshares

Where We Left Off: It was cliffhanger central last season on The Fosters. Jesus (Noah Centineo) collapsed after getting into a fight with Nick (Louis Hunter) that reaggravated his nail gun-related brain injury. Meanwhile, Callie (Maia Mitchell) realized she was stuck in a car with Mrs. Johnson's actual murderer and Brandon (David Lambert) had his Juilliard dreams dashed after his SAT scam came to light to the College Board.

What's Next: The first two episodes back will focus on Jesus and the "fight of his life, for his life," executive producer Bradley Bredeweg tells TVGuide.com. However, Callie isn't out of the woods either. She'll have to create an "explosive" situation to get out of car with Troy, and the resulting consequences will put her right back in the judicial system with her entire future at risk. Brandon is also on a journey of self-discovery this season as he attempts to put the pieces of his life back together after his own ill-advised actions ruined his lifelong dream.

***

Maybe Julliard is ruined for Brandon (he can reapply in a year), but studying music isn't.

Callie's storylines are ultimately regurgitated. So boring and annoying. She'll be in juvie again. Everything will be at-risk for the millionth time. YAWN. There are so many more compelling stories they could tell with her. Such a letdown.

Same here. The sad part is that the only two options that'll happen for Callie; she either ends up together with Brandon and has to undo the adoption, or she gets over Brandon and she can stay part of the family. I can't imagine that it would go over well if the show tried to allow both to happen. I mean, I guess they could, but I think I would be uncomfortable with Brallie being adoptive siblings and dating, you know? How awkward would that be to explain it to other people? "So, this is Brandon, my boyfriend and brother. But just my adoptive brother! And we liked each other when I was just the foster kid! But then we got together officially after I was adopted."

Sad thing is that I almost quit during season 3 but it was Noah's Jesus and Stef/Lena that brought me back.

sigh, only thing i care about is jesus, the whole thing is boring and stupid, callie and brandon bore me, at least callie is where she belongs, in jail, you know how people complain when jude doesn't appear in an episode? well if brandon and callie didn't appear for a change you'd have a  real winner of an episode

I really wanted them to explore what happens to a foster kid Callie's age that has to adjust to having a normal life instead of this manufactured drama. Also, they never should've gone down the Braille road at all.

I feel the exact same way. I was hoping that the Brandon/Callie thing would be at least dropped once Callie got adopted...before they started creating drama to delay the adoption, probably primarily for Brallie to still be a thing. I'm really hoping that they can just end Brallie once and for all now that she's actually adopted. I never need to see it happen again, and since we already got Callie's fears of being unadopted due to her sleeping with Brandon, maybe it'll stick.

I'm impatiently waiting for a sneak peek for 4x11. Since I've already seen two sneak peeks of Switched at Birth, I'm really hoping they give us a sneak peek in the next few days.

Seriously. They just keep her on these stupid "I must be the foster kid savior" quests and keep her in trouble so she's never completely comfortable with the Adams Fosters, even now that she's adopted. I've wanted to see her go from 'I'm grateful that Jude and I have a home' to actually seeing herself as their daughter (Stef and Lena have finally started treating her as such and yes, there are adjustments that Callie has to navigate, as Jude has). But there won't be much of that because she'll be arrested and in juvie (taken from the house and any stability yet again. But it's her own fault for breaking laws) and the adoption might be in jeopardy or something will happen to pave the way for Brallie.

I feel like Brallie will somehow end up together. I'll be very surprised if they don't.

The sneaks will probably involve Jude or Mariana so as not to spoil Jesus' plot. But I would like to see them, as well.

All the other story lines seem pretty repetitive, but I actually can't wait to see what they do with Jesus. This'll be such a different story line for his character than the usual girl drama, and it has the potential to be really good. Plus, I think Noah will handle it nicely. I'm not so sure they could've done this storyline with JTA.

It really sucks that Jesus always seems to face the harshest consequences, and yet his actions are always the most harmless. Seriously, when was the last time his desicions genuinely hurt someone like Brandon's and Callie's constantly do?

I'm with you on this. After wishing for a non-love interest story for Jesus, the recasting has actually given us a better, more mellowed out and less smirky Jesus as well as actual, meaningful storylines. Plus, it sounds like Jesus will be struggling with this brain trauma for most, if not all of 4B.

I was an avid fan of JTA when he was on the show. Growing up watching Wizards of Waverly Place, he's the reason why I started watching this show. Hell, I enjoyed him on the show for the sole reason that I hoped that he'd get better storylines. But with Noah? It's surprising how quickly I've accepted him AND I even love Jesus more than JTA's Jesus. Noah has more range and I appreciate the different feel he's brought to the character. Jesus is less preppy, less smirky, and less girl obsessed. It's nice.

Also, yes. Jesus has been the only one to receive consequences every time he does something wrong. All other kids have gotten at least two free passes. Jesus, on the other hand? Nope, something bad always happens. At this point, Jesus is more harmful to himself than others, while everyone else's actions have inadvertently hurt someone else.

I know I keep on harping on this but I wish the showrunners would explain the timeline of the events on this show. I have no idea what year it is or how much time has passed. It's getting ridiculous and I've asked Bradley to clarify with no results.

Well, I KNOW they've said it's just over a year (1x04/1x05 had the twins' fifteenth birthday and 3x12 or whatever had the twins' sixteenth birthday) but logically, it really should be closer to two years, if not just over two years. It doesn't help with the couple of pregnancies somehow happening within a span of a couple of months, such as Ana's or even Lena's, who was five months along when she lost Frankie but Ana got pregnant after that.

So, yeah, I've kind of accepted that this timeline just doesn't work at all because they screwed it up. Shows really should have a somewhat established timeline and keep track of it. Shows have script supervisors who make sure continuity is right in episodes. Why not expand that to the whole show, to make sure continuity throughout the series is correct? There are so many people who can do it. Hell, just hire a few interns to do it. Hell, I'd do it for little money.

Not really sure why everyone is talking about brandon and callie and how they'll inevitably end up together. If I recall, the whole last season did not focus on them at all. I 100 % do not believe Callie would ever choose to be un-adopted . The show would never do that. I used to think they would end up together, and I am a big Brallie fan... but now I don't think so. All the comments I see on this board show that no one is really a fan of them together, and I'm sure the writers are getting wind of that. As a character, I find Callie to be annoying, but for some reason I feel the chemistry between them.

Well, seasons 1-3 had heavy amounts of Brandon/Callie. Since Callie's been officially adopted, there's been less, and they did show Callie's fears of being unadopted through a dream scene, but I think the fear still is that they'll resort back to Brandon/Callie, because there are many people who want them to become a couple, even still. This board is a lot different than people on Twitter or Tumblr. There's more of them and they are quite vocal.

I do think that there are less shippers now that Callie is Brandon's adopted sister, but I have seen some pretty crazy comments that have wishes for Callie to get unadopted so her and Brandon can be together. Not to mention there are people arguing against incest and how Brandon/Callie's children would not get any defects that incest-born children would get. It's...a little disturbing to me when it comes to those people, in my opinion. The people who want Callie to be unadopted since "well, Brandon/Callie will get married and be family regardless". Well, unless they get divorced or they break up, and Callie's family issues are already a burden on herself.

Anyway, I feel about 75% sure that they won't end the series on Brandon/Callie being a couple, but I still can't deny that there isn't a chance.

Question: Got any scoop on The Fosters? Is Callie going to have a new love interest? I don’t like AJ. —Luiz
Ausiello: Sorry, there’s no new guy in Callie’s life, but she and AJ are going to face plenty of challenges when the Freeform drama returns on Jan. 31, if that makes you feel any better. Aaron is “absolutely” still a source of tension for the couple, executive producer Joanna Johnson tells TVLine. I am so not looking forward to the entire Callie storyline that I may have to FF through it all. Zero interest in seeing Callie in Jail. I'd prefer to see Callie trying to deal with her life after being adopted and the havoc that foster care played on her adolescence. The anticipation of this storyline is really diminishing my excitement over the show coming back tonight. Ugh. Enough already.

OTOH, cannot wait for the Jesus storyline. It will give Jesus and Mariana - and the Mamas - terrific material to play. I used to adore Jude but I'm not cracked over Jude and Noah. Perhaps that will change. Brandon finally facing the music (no pun intended) and losing Juilliard has a lot of possibilities.

Press release for 04x14:

Stef is frustrated with the kids for keeping endless secrets and decides that everything needs to be out in the open, on all-new episode of “The Fosters,” airing MONDAY, FEBRUARY 21 (8:00 - 9:00 p.m. EST), on Freeform.

After Brandon confesses to Stef that he didn’t get into Juilliard, she decides she’s fed up with all of the kids’ secrets and removes their bedroom doors. Mariana starts seeing a therapist to deal with the trauma of Nick’s actions.

While Jesus struggles with physical therapy, Brandon realizes that music might be a good way to help get through to him. Callie’s biological father Robert (guest star Kerr Smith, “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D,” “Dawson’s Creek”) brings in his highly paid attorneys to handle Callie’s case, which causes a conflict with Stef and Lena.

Episode summary for 4x15:

Quote

In “Sex Ed,” Brandon supports Emma through a difficult situation, which makes Jesus suspicious about their friendship. When Jude learns that LGBT sex is not covered in his school’s sex education class, he tries to gain knowledge through a dating app for adults, putting himself in a potentially dangerous situation.

Callie uses her foster care experiences to create a provocative and poignant art installation as her senior project, but the school administration asks her to remove it before the school Open House.

“Sex Ed” was written by Kris Q. Rehl and directed by Michael Medico.

Hmm. So I guess Emma really is pregnant. Because of course the show needs more drama, and Jesus needs more to deal with. I wonder if Emma is going to get an abortion, though. We've dealt with Lena miscarrying and Ana actually having a baby. I can't imagine they want another baby on the show, and they could touch on abortion, but it will most likely be heavy handed. I am surprised that they actually are going through a Brandon/Emma pairing of sorts, even if it's not romantic. Also, goddamnit, Jude. Becoming a teenager has turned him into an idiot. As for Callie, she's already gone through three different senior projects, so what's another one that won't be accepted?

Seriously.

I get that this show is a drama, but damn, aren't the writers exhausted? I know I am LOL.

You called it though in the episode thread that the brown bag would be a misdirection and that it would be Emma. I guess that's good since Mariana didn't need a pregnancy on top of being traumatized. But then again, neither does Jesus considering he just had a TBI.

Oh, Callie. I can see it now. Just picture their ten year high school reunion:

Callie: Guys, I finally finished my senior project!

Brandon: That's really great, Callie, but we graduated a decade ago.

The Fosters Mega Buzz: What Effect Has the Brain Injury Had on Jesus?

Jesus (Noah Centineo) has made it through brain surgery and woken up from his medically induced coma on The Fosters, but there's still the lingering question of how his traumatic brain injury (TBI) will affect him going forward.

The most obvious effects are physical ones -- he has to relearn how to walk and speak, for example -- but that's just the tip of the iceberg.

You see, his cognitive abilities are still intact. "He formulates thought very well," Centineo explains. "It's getting it from his brain to his mouth, using two different parts of his body. It's sending signals and that's where the problem lies for Jesus."

That disconnect can be frustrating for a person with a TBI and their caregivers. When Jesus lashes out, the Adams-Foster family will be faced with their toughest test yet.

What is Jesus's secret? Hmmm.

RME at the Callie/Aaron road trip.

I remember there being a spoiler somewhere about a girl causing some jealousy between Callie and AJ. I don't normally root for jealousy, but I really don't like how Callie treats AJ. Truthfully, I think all the Adams-Foster children should step back from relationships for a while, Callie especially (as much as I like AJ). She needs to be by herself for a while and figure a lot out.

I'm disappointed with how Callie treats AJ. It's a shame because there are moments, like his past episode, where they have really good scenes and it feels like a relationship. Callie even listened to AJ's problems this past episode and cared what was going on. I grew to really like AJ, though, and I do think this whole Aaron/Kyle thing is going to ruin it. But now if there's a girl to ruin it, then I know I'll hate it even more.

Press release for 04x17:

STEF WORKS TO RESCUE A TEENAGE PROSTITUTE FROM HER PIMP ON AN ALL-NEW EPISODE OF ‘THE FOSTERS,’ AIRING TUESDAY, MARCH 21, ON FREEFORM

Stef aims to save a girl from a life of violence and prostitution, on an all-new episode of “The Fosters,” airing TUESDAY, MARCH 21 (8:00 – 9:01 p.m. EDT), on Freeform.

Stef starts a new assignment in human trafficking where she meets a teenaged girl named Diamond who is turning tricks on the streets. Lena deals with repercussions for holding an off-campus LGBTQ sex ed class for Anchor Beach students. Callie’s relentless pursuit of justice starts to impact her relationship with AJ.

Meanwhile, Mariana tries to cheer up Jesus with a special project after he’s prescribed a special pair of glasses due to his traumatic brain injury.

“Diamond in the Rough” was written by Cristian Martinez and directed by Lily Mariye.

Whatever, Callie. Juvie and solitary has taught you nothing. She's so sure that Kyle is innocent. What if...plot twist--he isn't? I am seriously so over this Kyle/detective crap, and I know quite a few of you haven't cared about her in awhile.

Lena will probably deal with upset parents or faculty because drama.

Stef in Human Trafficking will make for some good material. Can't wait.

Yes, more twins things.

My speculation is that Lena is on her way out at Anchor Beach. Perhaps this is the catalyst. Monte seems to get on very well with the replacement and Lena's aggressiveness on an issue which can polarize prospective parents will push her out the door.

Yeah, that's what all the signs seem to be pointing to.

I think they are setting it up for Mariana, Jesus and Jude attending a different school next year. They'll have Brandon, AJ and Callie graduate and then jettison Anchor Beach. Maybe one of the reasons they had it be a charter school is to show how flawed they are due to the model they operate under.

So the writer for tonight's episode tweeted to me that Lena changing Jude's math test score is going to be revealed down the line like every other secret. They aren't playing regarding everyone's secrets being revealed. Should be interesting.

This was in response to me saying that was the only secret they might not reveal BTW.

So, I was thinking about this and someone brought this up on Tumblr, and I feel like episode 18, "Dirty Laundry," is when this might be revealed.

Or maybe that's too obvious. But if we're correct and Lena is really on her way out of Anchor Beach, this could be the thing that forces her to resign or be fired.

EDIT 3/6:

I'm saying this here, just to be safe. Danny Nucci is not mentioned in the press release for the Season 5 premiere date.

The series stars Teri Polo, Sherri Saum, Hayden Byerly, Noah Centineo, David Lambert, Maia Mitchell and Cierra Ramirez.

They wouldn't kill him off, would they? It's probably just an error. But maaaaaybe...

I just asked Bradley the question about Danny. I'll let everyone know if I hear back from him.

On to another topic- we've determined that it's late Nov 2014 in the show (but no mention of Turkey Day so WTF?) because Jude is 14 now which means all of this chaos has happened in 18 months.

Here are the kids birthdays

August 28, 1996- Brandon

July 11, 1997- Callie

May 17, 1998- Mariana and Jesus

November 17, 20000- Jude

Now why are both Brandon and Callie seniors when CA rules would've allowed Brandon to start kindergarten a year earlier than he did. The way they've written his character doesn't scream him having to repeat a grade during elementary school so what gives? Why make his birthday so far away from Callie's. They could've saved themselves from this issue if Brandon's birthday was after September of that year.

Also, let's concentrate on Brandon and Callie's stories in season 4. Both of them have been through a decade's worth issues in only about 4 months time. This is getting ridiculous.

One more thing. So Lena has suffered a miscarriage and Stef got shot and had cancer, both of which she's in recovery from, during this 18 month period.

Not only that, but Ana also managed to get pregnant after Lena miscarried (at five months, and she got pregnant at the end of season 1), she had Isabella, and now Isabella looks like she's at least seven months old. Callie also gets put into a group home, gets out, meets her biological father, and deals with all of that mess. They also have a Christmas episode in season 2, a while after Lena loses the baby, and I believe the flashback looks back on Callie/Jude's first Christmas with the family. All apparently taking place within 18 months.

Although it's to be noted that the twins can't be born in May because the first half of season 3, the half without Jesus, takes place in the summer. Brandon's going to a musical camp during this time, and they also have a Father's Day episode. The twins celebrate their 16th in 3x17, but their 15th birthday clearly takes place during the school year. In 1x20, they're celebrating a Winter's Ball so the twins' birthday could definitely be in the fall, around September. And it could have worked out...if not for everything happening in between. In my opinion, the twins should have been celebrating their 17th birthday in 3x17. The timeline wouldn't be perfect, but it would be a lot more believable.

So yeah, the showrunners can say all they want that it's only been 18 months. That's not true and they messed up with the twins' birthday, I think because they wanted a sixteenth birthday episode and realized that they messed up by not having it in season 2.

Shows with kids and school years really need someone like ourselves working on the outside of the show as consultants to check their timeline issues. They should also determine all the birthdays and stick to them because this is ridiculous because everything I've read has the twins birthday's in May. Anyway it's enough to make our heads explode.

Press release for 04x18:

LENA FEELS THE PRESSURE OF PARENTING BY HERSELF ON AN ALL-NEW EPISODE OF ‘THE FOSTERS,’ AIRING TUESDAY, MARCH 28, ON FREEFORM

Lena is feeling pulled in every direction as Stef’s long hours away leave her parenting on her own, on an all-new episode of “The Fosters,” airing TUESDAY, MARCH 28 (8:00 – 9:01 p.m. EDT), on Freeform.

As Stef works longer hours in her new position, Lena feels overwhelmed trying to keep up with the complicated lives of their five teenagers in addition to the pressures of her own job. Jude, fed up with being bullied at school, resorts to bullying tactics of his own. Callie heads to Los Angeles with Aaron (guest star Elliot Fletcher, “Shameless”) to visit his parents, who are struggling with Aaron being transgender.

“Dirty Laundry” was written by Megan Lynn & Wade Solomon and directed by Laura Nisbet Peters.

It's 'be careful what you wish for' for Lena. With everything that's going on, it wouldn't take long for that stress to mount like crazy. I wonder if 'the pressures of her own job' is still referring to Anchor Beach?

Jude, come on, becoming the bully is just as bad. Don't stoop to their level. Such a far cry from the Judicorn of old.

Callie is the savior for all. Blah. But as much as I already don't like this road trip, I'm glad Aaron has some support to deal with his transphobic parents.
