Anna and Josh obviously drove themselves without accountability partners and we've seen Jessa out by herself.  Ben went off to the coffee shop to study.  Even if Jim Bob thinks he needs an accountability partner, it seems most of the next generation have ditched that after marriage.  I can't see Jeremy suddenly deciding he needs an accountability partner after all these years of doing without one so I expect he'll think Jinger is equally free to go to the store by herself.

I hate to make JB "right" but if there was ever walking proof of the need for a 24/7 accountability partner for the marrieds it's Joshie.

You're right though, I think the others dropped the entourage after marriage.   Except Jill who even though she doesn't need the accountability part is I think incapable of doing pretty much anything by herself.  Even spending all day alone in the house seemed to much for her which I think contributed to her danger america issues.  But I agree that Jeremy won't hold Jinger back and I think she's independent enough to manage on her own when she needs to.

Who knows with the Duggars but growing up IFB, a married adult did not an accountability partner for going to the store etc.  The only rule I ever heard was not to be alone with a member of the opposite sex.

The whole wedding planning thing is pissing me off. We already know Jinger didn't get her bridal gown or the bridesmaids' dresses at that shop in D.C., so who do they think they're fooling? Surely an upstanding, Christian family like the Duggars wouldn't fake scenes in exchange for comped trips?

IIRC  Tori Roloff, Zach's wife, admitted getting her bridal gown on line (?EBay) after they showed her shopping for gowns at a bridal shop. No big deal for her so why can't the Duggars be like this?

We would have found out that Ava Laurenne didn't supply the gown once the episode aired, but it was nice of the Pensacola bridal shop to humblebrag on Instagram as they were flying to Arkansas for the wedding. I'm too lazy to look up the gal's name or the shop, but she was the blonde woman hanging out with the photographer and his wife when the girls were taking pictures in front of the church.

I think it will matter how it plays out on TV, as in are they honest with the timeline and such. That TLC is airing it after the wedding is a tad weird, and the fact that both the Duggars and TLC play with the timeline so often, makes stuff like this feel even more staged.

I feel that most folks are just looking to have a peek into these TLC families' lives and don't want to feel hoodwinked by lies just for the sake of attempting to create more interest.

That scene drove me nuts.  In the time they took talking about replacing the batteries & who was going to get the new ones, they could have had the batteries replaced. I'm sure we didn't see the whole scene.  Maybe that was part of the problem - was it Ok for Joy to go alone?  Geez, if that big of a deal, Ben should have gone or does he still need an accountability partner?

That scene was a reminder of what a dull show this is! I wonder, too, how strict the accountability partner rules are. I suspect that short daylight trips alone are acceptable, but longer trips at night or god forbid traveling alone are definitely out.

The question is will Jinger actually go the store without Babe. My money is on no  - she's a Jill.

All I can think of is the scene in the BBC adaptation of David Copperfield from 1999 or so, where David's sweet but simple wife wanted to be by his side, helping him, at all times. There was really nothing useful for her to do so finally he invented the task of her holding his pens. I can see Jinger, glued to Babe's side, "helping" by handing him a pen and "Babe"ing in awe that he's writing a sermon to be delivered to ten people on folding chairs on Sunday.

Yeah, the women in Arkansas must not be as bold as those in NYC, which I am told by friends with children, their husbands are besieged if they go places alone with offspring in tow, by women hoping for a nice widower or at least someone who doesn't have to pay out alimony.

Is this really true? Wow. I've always been naive when it comes to flirting, I guess, as I've never been brave enough to dream of trying it!

I just caught this part - did Derick basically shove aside the groomsman so he could walk Jill down the aisle himself?

That was a pathetic and embarrassing display, Heavy D.  Way to make yourself look like a complete imbecile.  At someone else's wedding.

I hate how clever and funny they think they are by doing this. It's rude and inconsiderate to try to steal attention for one thing, and unfair to the poor groomsman who was told in rehearsal to escort the bridesmaid down the aisle, and who then has to make his way down alone, probably feeling ridiculous.

Comcast finally has this On Demand.

I found the wedding quite nice. It didn't have many gag me moments, lol. Derick looked like an ass and the scenes with Michelle could have been edited out. The nurse with Josie was odd, looked like she was there to babysit.

Other than that, this one was really well done.

I kept trying to see Josh but never did. Not particularly upset by that.

I think Jinger looked beautiful, and I laughed when the candles wouldn't come out for them to light the unity candle. It seemed like a rare moment of "real couple" for them.

It was actually quite sweet to see JB and Jinger. With all of his faults (and he has many), he does seem to actually love his daughters and they love him. Unlike their mother.

Funny, but I drive by the shop in the mornings on my way to the gym....I actually stopped this morning & snapped a pic.  It's called "Renee's" and it's in kind of a sketchy part of our downtown.  Not close enough to the main downtown drag for foot traffic, but close.  It's in an old house and isn't very snazzy looking, but supposedly the folks there are easy to deal with and do cater to the modest gals.

I'll be interested to see how they film the shop if it makes it on air. It's a bit rundown.

Renee! Thanks @leighdear!Yelp her. She's disingenuous at best. If Jinger's dress was "hard-headed," it was bought off the rack. She probably fit a sample size 2, since wedding dress sizing runs so small. I remember that my dress was an 8, but I was a non-vanity 4, if that.

Re acne: Jinger had 2 honkin zits on her chin during the ceremony. The lighting then made them super visible (plus, they were on the side of her face that the camera focused on the most - from the audience's perspective). I had PMS acne well into my 30's, so I can't rag on the girls too much. I feel for the BOYS. Their acne problems are horrible.

The girls can't take Accutane because you have to be on two forms of birth control.  They could at least taken antibiotics.

It's normal for Duggar weddings.  They keep employing Erin Bates and her pulse-pounding piano stylings.  For one of the previous weddings, I noted  that it reminded me of that crazy piano lady they used to have on the Lawrence Welk Show.

Oh, it's PCC! I didn't even connect the two. Duh! All the Hartonos go there, so of course, Jenni H. would know of the place. Many of her college friends have married off (she is pursuing a "graduate" degree in bible verses or something), and she's been a bridesmaid many, many times over.

Yeah, but as I understand it, the accountability partner thing isn't IFB per se. It's a Gothard thing, big time, and I have read and heard that it's also talked about and recommended in some individual churches that have a lot of people allied with him or maybe with similar cults. I know of people who've moved and been looking for a church and who've encountered serious talk of it in some that they visited. (didn't choose those churches, of course) And Gothard is apparently still pushing hard on his acountability-group/partners thing in his new enterprise, which is entirely directed toward adult men.

Yeah, probably a Gothard thing. They have their own unique set of rules based on fetishes of an old perverted man.

Jinger and Jeremy are probably not going to be a strict Gothard couple. Jeremy seemed a bit out of the loop when he didn't know that they didn't hug or put the arm around the other.

Yeah, I think the best news for Jinger, Jill and Jessa is that they're all with men who, whatever their flaws, at least weren't molded into Gothardites from an early age. Bin was Vision Forum, which has similarities, of course, but for some reason I get the impression that the Seewalds weren't quite as Vision Forum-y as the Duggs are Gothardy. I don't think any of the guys is a bargain at all but to me having them not be dyed-in-the-wool BGers offers at least a little hope.

This is just another example, along with having one of Josie's nurses present, that illustrates the Duggars' lack of knowledge about etiquette and manners. There is a time and a place for these things and it's not at the wedding of someone else. The number one rule at a wedding as a guest is not to do, say, or wear anything that takes attention away from the couple. Derrick and Ben have plenty of time to kiss their spouses later and Josie didn't care about the nurse. I thought the lack of etiquette started around 20 years ago, but I can recall the dad of a childhood friend being shocked at the lack of manners amongst the men he travelled with on business trips in the 1980s! Hopefully, this episode will be a teaching tool for parents and etiquette instructors on the lack of etiquette and manners.

The nurse being there made no sense, especially considering the event wasn't a milestone for Josie such as a high school graduation (insert obvious jokes here) or her own wedding. Josie didn't know that nurse from a hole in the wall and I felt bad for her being pressured to have a reaction that she just didn't feel. This was nothing more than Michelle wanting to relive her Mommy Martyr glory days from Arkansas Children's.

One also has to surmise that poor J-Chelle was more interested in garnering attention for herself than allowing her daughter to have the spotlight on the biggest day of most women's lives so far. One also wonders if J-Chelle has the slightest idea that the viewing public sees this as pathetic instead of charming.

Great question! If I had to guess, the answer would be no. I think she and the rest of the Duggars will remain part of the group who will never comprehend etiquette or boundaries. This appears to be a bigger issue in small towns in the southern part of the country and not in New York or California. Not only was this not a milestone event for Josie, but patients have multiple nurses in the hospital, so how does Michelle think the others will feel when they see the wedding? I had many great teachers from K-12 and in college, but most people don't have the budget to invite every single one to the wedding.

Josie seemed more interested in the lights on her hair ring than what MEchelle was telling her.  Can't blame her.  Nurse Amy commented on it too.  I'm wondering if Nurse Amy made the flower ring. (Not that it makes a difference.)  IIRC, Amy already had it in her hands when MEchelle & Josie came out. Josie also mentioned something about Amy having a flower ring too but I forget what Amy's response was.  It may have been something like "I don't have it with me."  Does anyone remember?

I know I'm way behind, tbh I haven't even watched this, just read about it here... and I've been trying to get through the whole thread before I commented but got about halfway through page 5 before I gave up and skipped to comment... so I apologize if this has been answered, I know I've seen it addressed some... but WTF with Josie's nurse having anything to do with the wedding!? It just seemed like a really out of place thing to feature. I get them staying in touch, that's super sweet (I'm a pediatric nurse and love when former patients add me on Facebook, I love getting to see the kids grow up... from a previous office I worked in... not really current patients... that's not really appropriate, I had one message me once begging me to get them an appt) but such an odd thing to focus on in a show that originally wasn't going to show the under 18 kids at all. The only way I can make sense of it (not that I think it's ok or a good idea, just the only explanation I can think of) is that they (jb and mechelle) just desperately wanted to feature Josie since losing the 19 kids and counting gig, because obviously we might have forgotten about the miracle.

It also gets Mechelle in front of the camera. She knew that they were going to get the father/daughter scene; she needed attention, too, to remind the leghumpers that they weren't dead yet! They're doing everything in their power to make this show look like a reboot of 19Kids, rather than focusing on the married/engaged/courting daughters with a side of Cinderjana thrown in.

I think Josie needed supervision while everyone was preparing for the wedding, but Michelle couldn't be bothered and all her slaves were too busy to do her job for her. So they came up with the idea of pawning Josie off on this nurse (who Josie clearly didn't know) because it was a "sweet" way of unloading her on someone else without it being obvious that Michelle was just pawning Josie off on whomever was available just to be rid of her.  Everyone was supposed to think it was so wonderful that this nurse was still in Josie's life and they were going to have some kind of special time together, but the whole thing was really just awkward and transparently staged.

I wish Josie had refused to leave with that nurse and clinged onto Michelle like 95% of kids her age would have done.  Of course Michelle would probably have just popped an extra Xanax and ignored her, but it would have been funny to see her pretending to actually tend one of her own kids for a few minutes while the camera was on her.

Most 95% of kids her age (SEVEN!...7!) would not cling onto either stranger, Mechelle or the nurse.  They are taught stranger danger in school.  Oooops, Josie is basically treated as a 2 year old.  And too young for school.  Mykynzie didn't seem to need a minder.  Kid needs help, not nursemaids.

Josie is no Mackynzie, though, not by a long shot.  You really can't compare them.  And however Josie got to be the way she is - whether it's the result of being a premie/failure of her parents to get her proper treatment and education - she is the child that she is and I can understand wanting someone to be designated to keep an eye on her. The last thing she needs is to be expected to live up to Mackynzie standards of being able to care for herself because she simply can't.  It may well be Michelle (and JimBob's) fault, but that is the reality of the situation.  Josie does need a minder, and Jinger's wedding wasn't really the place to try to break the habit.

I am guessing they recruited this nurse with her specialized experience so it would make Michelle look less irresponsible because she was leaving Josie in the care of a trained medical professional.  Which is ironic because if they gave trained professionals access to Josie on a more regular basis, she might not require as much constant vigilance.

So Josie needed a minder on the busy wedding day.  Why would Michelle choose a NURSE, unless Josie is much more medically fragile than we are told.  Surely, with all their Fundy friends, a teenager would be available, a family already in attendance, and a family Josie would have already known.  Maybe a Bates girl?

ICU nurses work hard and for long hours!  I cannot even imagine one would give up a day off to babysit someone not even a close family friend!

Link to comment

I think it's our assumption that Josie needed a minder.  Why Michelle wanted the NICU nurse to put that hideous crown on the child is anyone's guess.  Josie was in the wedding party though and there were surely enough people in the women's dressing area to keep an eye on her.  I guess when we get the lead up to the wedding episode we can see if the nurse stays near Josie or is off somewhere with the rest of guests.

Here's one for you: why couldn't, oh, MECHELLE watch her daughter? She's so detatched from her own kids, even as MOB. I can't remember if she was dressed when she met the nurse out in the hall, but even that would just take her a couple minutes. It's not as if she did anything special to her poodlehead or anything. And from the looks of things, Jinger had a real stylist taking care of her needs, so Mechelle was really like a third wheel. What I'm trying to say is that there's no reason that Josie's mother couldn't watch after her, even if she needed hyper observation to keep her out of trouble. I never got the point of the nurse, other than to prove that Duggars really seem to invite every.damn.person they've ever met to these weddings.

Isn't this Josie's 3rd wedding she was in? She was able to stay put on the stairs for Jill's wedding. And every time I've seen a ring bearer or flower girl who's had enough at a wedding, they just usually go sit with a family member in the front pew. I bet there is some 6 degrees of separation of sorts and she just happened to be at the wedding and TLC & the Duggars pulled the rest out of their asses.
