Reminiscing through late 90s I guess, watching some old movies. I turned on The Mask of Zorro and guess who turns up - Matt Letscher as a misguided Custer like villain. He was very good in it. I always wondered why he felt so evil yet not sinister. I thought it was his time on Scandal, but turns out my mind probably remembered him from Zorro years ago - even if my brain forgot. Matt Letscher has that authenticity to be evil but somehow believe that his actions are not evil. I guess it's pure villain.

Wow. I saw the show with the original case and remember it was Len Cariou and Angela Lansbury, but I had no idea Victor Garber was in it. Of course, I was only 13 and for me Garber didn't become famous until Alias, but still, quite the surprise to learn about it now.

Slugfest is an upcoming Quibi docuseries about the history/rivalry between DC Comics and Marvel - Brandon Routh plays Joe Simon, co-founder of Timely Comics (which would later become Marvel) and co-creator of Captain America - here's some of my takeaways from the below NYCC virtual panel...

-- BR makes his first appearance in "something Marvel-related" when he plays Joe Simon in this docuseries. Joe Simon and Jack Kirby created Captain America for Timely Comics (predecessor to Marvel) in the 1940s.

-- After playing DC's Superman and being on DC's Legends of Tomorrow, BR said that playing the co-creator of Marvel's Captain America was "really great" and that the first episode is "very poignant for what's happening in the world today."

-- You can watch the first episode of this docuseries (the one in which BR plays Joe Simon) at the end of the below video. It is about the creation of Captain America, who was a more relatable superhero than Superman. It also features a young Stan Lee interacting with Simon and Kirby. Apparently, at the time, Simon and Kirby got death threats from Nazi sympathizers after the Captain America comics first came out. Those threats died out after the U.S. got involved in WW2. Despite the popularity of Captain America, it took another 20 years before Marvel became a true rival to DC Comics.

-- This entire Slugfest docuseries will debut on Quibi on Nov. 9th.

I used to really like Nathan Fillion, but after the whole Castle mess, I just have not been able to deal with him.  I’m aware that’s probably quite unfair, but....🤷🏻‍♀️  The whole thing just really left a bad taste in my mouth.  I’m glad for Brandon that he’s getting work, but I wouldn’t be able to watch this even for him.  😢

"Greetings, Magic fans! I'm Brandon Routh and I play Gideon in the upcoming Magic: The Gathering animated series coming to Netflix in 2022. For those of you that don't know, Gideon is known for being the strong guy who always stands up for what's right, just, and isn't afraid to fight. Now I understand why they hired me for this. Makes sense. [laughs] But seriously, I'm really excited about this show and really proud and honored to be a part of it. I'm a huge Magic fan, I've been playing since I was sixteen. I've played many drafts over the years, and have too many cards. [laughs] More than I should."

Brandon Routh went on to reiterate that he loves the world of Magic: The Gathering and is "very excited to be a part of this animated series" and he'll "see you around the multiverse" in 2022. All things considered, it's fun to learn that Routh landed the role of Gideon as such a big fan of Magic, and Henry Cavill over on another Netflix series can probably relate to the feeling of winning a starring role on something you already love!

Tala Ashe, best known for her role as Zari Tarazi on DC's Legends of Tomorrow, has joined the cast of a new play debuting this spring at New York's Linda Gross Theater. The play is the New York debut of playwright Sanaz Toossi's English Only, which centers on a group of Iranians who are studying English as a second language. The play will be presented as a co-production with Roundabout Theatre Company and directed by Knud Adams. The play will run from February 3 until March 13, 2022, and tickets are available now to members, or go on sale to the general public on November 23.

Featured in the cast are Tala Ashe (The CW's DC’s Legends of Tomorrow), Ava Lalezarzadeh, Pooya Mohseni (Chonburi Hotel & The Butterfly Club), Marjan Neshat (NYSF's Julius Caesar), and Hadi Tabbal. 

Knud Adams directs the play, about a group of adults in Iran preparing for the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) in an "English Only" classroom. The work earned Toossi Williamstown Theatre Festival's 2020 L. Arnold Weissberger New Play Award, which was accompanied by a $20,000 prize and an option for publication through Concord Theatricals' Samuel French imprint. Atlantic's production, which is co-produced with Roundabout Theatre Company, is the work's world premiere staging.
