If TLC was trying to make this some kind of tell-all they failed miserably. Watching yet ANOTHER clip show that showed the SAME crap scenes we've been subjected to over and over this season, but now narrated by the SAME people saying the SAME crap drivel from said previously-seen episodes...Well, what kept going through my head was that line from "Erin Brockovich" when the evil insurance company sent the letter to the unfortunate family saying "you must be stupid stupid stupid."  Yes, yes I am. I'm still watching. Unless the next episode exposes Jana as a secret LGBTQ supporter, Jinger a pro-choice advocate, Jessa and Ben coming out as living a BDSM lifestyle and Jill and Derek living a polyamorous lifestyle - I'm out. Seriously. I need a defribulator to revive me from dying of boredom. And a SHOWER CURTAIN?  ::dead::

Good grief.  What's next?  Jill's sobbing story of once pulling the laundry out of the drier in Danger America and finding out she forget to put in a fabric softener sheet?  Or the time she tried to get the coffee maker to work only to find out after several minutes she didn't have it plugged in?  Or maybe a whole season of the dangers of being in an "Overseas" Wal-mart and not running your debit card through the right way?  And there was a LINE!!!!

I'm stunned they think these nine "episodes" deserved a "highlight show".  Especially since you know that another season will see many of those same highlights puked back up on the screen and viewers expected to chow down on them like they're a pack of hyena pups.  First episode of any next season will be crammed full of JermBabe and his Clinger and the wondrous gift from God they are to love (speaking of puke).

And as stupid and worthless as this 50 page questionnaire is, the fact that Jerm-Babe for the Cameras added more than twice that in his should have sent Boob running in the other way.  While a normal person would see it as ridiculous for its own logical reasoning?  Boob should have noted immediately that if Boob is going to piss to mark his "territory", Jerm-Babe is going to not just shit over every inch to claim his, he is going to stuff himself with Ex-lax to make sure he does the job as thoroughly as possible.  JermBabe is out to take the Duggar formula and better it.  He might be pulling a facade of worldly "normalcy" over it all but deep down he is closer to a bunker in the hills than mom-jeans and gut Boob ever has been.

If I was really morbid I would take the over/under of JermBabe and his Clinger being the subjects of a tragic and creepy episode of Dateline in the next twenty years or so.

On the murdered spouse sweepstakes, I think JermBabe has an early strong start for the males even if the wedding ring hasn't been slipped on yet.

I see Gums and Brows Jill slipping Dreck a slow but steady dose of anti-freeze in his meals but then baffled why he drops dead when all she wanted was for him to stay home.  Police find his desiccated corpse sitting in his favorite chair with his pad open and charged fully and receiving a strong wifi signal.

Jessa just gets fed up with Bin and takes a cast iron frying pan she thinks makes an excellent decoration for her grifted wedding registry kitchen (not like she'll ever cook with it) and straightens that damn hat of his once and for all.  And sips her Starbucks and nibbles the last Talk like a Pirate Day Crispy Creme before calling the police and saying some strange "music associate" was seen lurking about the house recently and someone stole all their cases of soda.

On the whole shower curtain story (wow),

Unfortunately the shower curtain might fall here in America too.

One thing that stands out about this season and maybe this show (Counting On versus 19KAC) is that they really trying to sell and play up a " We're siblings and best friends and we all love each other." Jessa was being supportive of everyone including Jill (whole sound effects in the background) (it's good to have her back) and Jana (she told Jana she had a knack for design or something like that).  It's been clear in other episodes too and not just with Jessa and the girls. (In the Duggar boy courtship ep, Jana emphasized her bond with her twin.) All of this family bonding makes sense... except it wasn't shown to much effect in previous seasons of the old show.

This episode was boring and hard to focus on.

Yeah, I thought tonight was it, then I saw someone's screengrab of next week's show description. Jessa is known as "Jenna." LOL

So does anybody know why this week's fest was called "After Show"?   After what? After a string of other nothing shows? At most, shouldn't it have been called maybe "The Antepenultimate Show"?

And why were they in Tennessee?

  Jill needs psychiatric help

She does. She's been taught all her life that motherhood and marriage  are the big things that elevate a woman's standing . Then she had a long difficult birth which ended in a c section making her feel completely inadequate . Sprinkle a bit postpartum depression over it and you have that mess . She's also been taught that prayer will make everything better and if it doesn't you're an evil sinner  but she can't pray herself better so it's all her fault and she's a bad person  separated from god .

I would love to see the comparisons of Derick's, Ben's and Jeremy's answers to the questionnaire. I'm guessing that even if it was sent electronically, Ben would have printed out each page and written in his one word answers in his flowery cursive handwriting. I'm thinking Derick would have felt very, very mature in answering his questions and I'm thinking every other word in Jeremy's was God and every tenth word was soccer, that might explain the extra pages.

Another thing maybe Jeremy found himself speechless when JB was questioning him about supporting Jinger's shopping was cuz he was thinking - Uhm, duh, TLC.

I think it is very mean to say that Jill needs help because she was scared of a shower rack. That isn't exactly what she was afraid of...she heard what sounded like shattering glass so she ran to her "safe room". If I lived in an area that rape, kidnapping, and extortion were likely dangers, and I heard a noise that sounded like shattering glass I would be scared too.

But shower curtains can fall here in the US too. And there is lots of gun violence and rape. Is it really sooooo much more dangerous in CA?

So Jana bought an old tattoo parlor? Or I guess daddy did? Good for her -- she seems to enjoy that stuff, so I HOPE she gets to do some of the reconstruction/remodeling -- not just JD. Though knowing this family, the boys will do the actual work and Jana will be brought in on the last day to stage the place so that when potential retail tenants come in, there aren't paint cans all over the floor. I feel bad for how sad Jana looks ALL THE TIME. Maybe an interior design business IS what she wants and yet of course she can't have it bc she doesn't have an MRS.

More like, she can't have it because she doesn't have that XY chromosome thing.

No matter how hard TLC tries to pitch this family as anywhere near normal, the Duggars are fundies and into those allegedly Biblical God-ordained gender roles.

Although, maybe they really aren't. I think the only thing Jim Bob believes in, immutably, is his God-ordained role as founder of a dynasty. If one of the wimmenfolk - who's falling down on her job by not marrying and popping out loinfruit anyway - can help bring in money to support the clan, maybe JB is fine with that. After all, he's lived large on his daughters' TLC appearance fees for, what, a decade? already.

I don't know how to quote multiple people. Jill is still crying about it. Maybe it had just happened before they left, and filmed a week after return and the time between the incidence and filming wasn't long. I don't know. I just find it cruel to make fun of someone that was obviously traumatized by a situation (NOT a shower curtain, but the thought that it was a shattered window and fear for her and Israels safety). And I don't know exactly where in CA they are. From experience with a missions trip in Nicaragua, we were told that some Americans really stand out and can be targets for crime. We were not to walk alone without natives. So yes, CA is dangerous. More dangerous than the US? yes, some places. To each their own. I don't want to argue, I just wanted to give insight on another opinion based on what I watched.

Ok so here's my take. It's a pissing contest with these two. Was Babe just being passive aggressive? Because this is so something i would do. Jim Boob you want me to answer a 50 page questionnaire? Ok then. Here are 105 pages BITCH!

Regarding the assault of the shower curtai. My family must be hella twisted. When she told the story I actually laughed thinking those dolts would laugh as well.....uh no. My family would have been howling and relentlessly joking about this. It was FUNNY!  In my world of twisted Derick would have yelled "Jill...the fuck?! It's a shower curtain" then my kids would have been using this good natured ribbing forever. BTW Jessa and Jill. A shower curtain falling does NOT sound like gun shots you idiots.

And when they were talking about the "wilderness" shit I loved when the said Jill would love it yet Jill replied "if Derick were there". Cue awkward silence and dirty looks....

@Farmfam -  I see your point, and it's valid. No argument about that. What follows isn't to argue with you, but to express where I'm coming from.

My frustration with Jill and Derick, and where I've lost patience, compassion, or support for them, is that they aren't down in Dangerous Central America doing anything necessary or useful to the people who live there. They are living in a guarded gated compound, complaining about the limitations of their home (cold showers, not being able to drink the water, just to name two things they mentioned in one episode), with Jill obviously weepy and traumatized, complaining about being left to care for her toddler for a few hours while Derick goes off to preach.

And for what? So Derick - who hasn't been educated at a seminary and is apparently a self-proclaimed missionary - can try to convert the citizens of a predominantly Catholic country to his kind of Christianity? The dude's blog entries are IMO mostly incoherent ramblings, and I can't imagine what kind of message he got across to a room full of people in CA, whether in English or Spanish.

They aren't building houses, delivering medicine, tending to the sick, delivering babies*, helping improve the water supply, improving agriculture, teaching English, or doing anything at all besides preaching and escorting occasional groups of American kids who hand out nail polish and Walmart brand candy.

And I'm supposed to be IMPRESSED that these twits are facing danger down there?

Color me unimpressed. The cure for Jill's obvious trauma is that they stop this Central America Missionary charade, and if they must continue with the preaching and interpretative dancing for Jesus, find a safer place for it.

*Ironically, Jill's midwife training is probably the only useful thing in their combined repertoire but it seems that she didn't do much with it, though I kind of remember she may have done one birth.

Sounds much safer with FAR more security than anyplace I've ever lived.

If their main goal is to convert Catholics, then there are many in their home area of Arkansas. Period. They could easily do the same "work" there. AND they wouldn't have to attempt to convert the heathens in broken Spanish.

Jill needs to learn that women do not need men to "protect" them. Get a good security system for your home, FFS.

This is exactly how it would go down in my house!  Upon re-telling the story, there would be slight embarrassment over my reaction to said shower fixture and tons of laughter and endless teasing about it.  This is how normal people react - you have to make light of things (that aren't that serious after all) and laugh and enjoy things in life!   Yes, it was most likely very terrifying for Jill in that moment and I don't discount that at all.  However, upon reflection over the end result of what scared her so badly should not still cause her so much anxiety.   She was hanging on to Derrick for dear life while re-telling the story.  She was still terrified.

Her comment about the number of pregnancy tests she has taken was very telling as well.  She is barely hanging on and a positive test is her lifeline to staying in Arkansas.   It was hard to get a read on Derrick's expression at the very end when telling us he can't predict what the future will hold for them.  He very clearly feels pulled to be a missionary, but his wife's mental state is giving him pause.

I found it slightly odd that it was the non-Duggars that spoke the most about God.  Mostly Ben and Derick but the girls hardly mentioned Him at all compared to their significant others.

Didn't quote it but just wanted to mention Jill did not hand her baby over to a nine year old in the airport, the nine year old practically yanked Israel from Jill.  I'm surprised the baby didn't start wailing at being taken by a practical stranger.

The thing that strikes me is how much life experience the Duggar kids, and the older girls especially, actually do have. Most of them have been sexually abused. And they've been viciously and constantly emotionally, academically, legally, mentally, financially and, probably, physically abused by their parents -- for years and years and in many ways. And they've been servants and house workers and child raisers from an extremely early age, with, again, no real support from said parents.

So they have every bit of experience they need to understand and empathize with and work with most people's life problems. But they're also so uneducated, brainwashed and, apparently, dimwitted and buried in denial that they don't have access to any of their own experiences, no ability to analyze them or see them straight for what they are or, probably, even fully feel them.

They have the experiences to be missionaries. In fact, I'd say that, experiencewise, in most ways they're just the kind of people who truly can work with others with true empathy, understanding and strength. But nature and nurture have collaborated to deprive them of the brains, the hearts, the knowledge -- of themselves and of the world -- that they'd need to do it.

It's another damn aspect of the damn Duggar tragedy. And it's more of why I have a very very hard time being mad at any of the Duggarlings. They're incredibly damaged. Yet they're treated by TLC and America as if they're a combination of entertainment and people who should be ridiculed and disdained. They're fucking victims of decades of crimes against the human spirit, is what they are.

Every single word of this, particularly the last paragraph.  This is why I can't make fun of Joy for sounding so . . . uh . . . unintelligent.  Or feel frustration with 26-year-old Jana for not packing up her curling iron and hairspray one night and hitting the road to do whatever the hell she wants to do.  Or Josie for navigating the kitchen via the countertops when she should be in school, learning to effing read and socialize with different kinds of people.  Or Jill for being scared so much by something as minor as a falling shower rod that it becomes part of a conversation about fear and risks in a foreign country months later.  I could go on, but you get my drift.  The only people in this family who deserve my considerable derision are MEchelle and her asshole headship.  The sheer arrogance of MEchelle pumping out baby after baby and expecting her tween girls to single-handedly take over every aspect of their care from infancy onward almost takes my breath away.  I've watched these folks since day one and I still can't get over how wrongheaded and outright abusive they are underneath all of the prayer and phony solicitude.

My sentiments 1000% percent. That and they do not have the maturity or street smarts to be down there anyway. That is why I do not feel that much compassion for JIll and Derrick.

If they were deworming orphans or doing literally anything else- I would be more supportive. They are not the heroes they think they are.

No sympathy for Derrick and maybe only a little for Jill because they can stop this facade at any time and aren't doing anyone any good.  They don't speak the language, the locals are likely super content with their current religion, and Jill is mentally and emotionally deteriorating. Risks outweigh the rewards

Boob is going to have absolutely no control with Jeremy and I love it. I want to see them strike off on their own. I think Jinjer will grow up a lot once she is out of the family grasp. They will still probably be totally loons, but they will be their OWN brand of Loons. Jeremy is just playing the game right now to make sure the wedding happens

Bin is showing some growth and that makes me hopefully. He is so young and can change a lot. I am totally different now at 28 than I was at 21. He wants and sees value in getting to know others. I predict him running for the hills maybe with Jessa if she is willing...or a Very Special Duggar Divorce.

I wish the Duggars would send Joy to college as an internet FU. She needs some education even if she doesn't plan on using it.

Oh- Jinger is 50 Shades of MIchelle with all the squealing and BAABBES and OH MYS!! Seriously. Same octave. Made the hair on my arms stand up. LOL

There's 423 questions & for the life of me I can't see any man agreeing to this.

In my opinion that is all she wants. Another child. No one takes "a ton of pregnancy tests" if their cycle is not late. That is what she was taught...making babies is your purpose. She started courting after Jessa but married first...basically got pregnant on her wedding night then......nothing. This is the second episode in which she has stated something about Jessa being pregnant before her like it is surprising.

I totally understand the shower curtain rack scared the crap out of Jill, most likely because there is a lot of crime in the area.

She is still crying about it months later?

I am seriously wondering if Jill was the victim of a violent crime and has some type of PTSD.  It really upset her to even talk about the shower rack.  There is WAY more to this story than a shower rack.

Derick is so self involved with his own missionary fantasies that he cannot see how bad Jill is suffering?

Derick actually gets off on this danger.  He enjoys being "important" and "brave".  He is "making huge sacrifices for God".  Derick is a sicko.  His little speech about how dangerous it is with kidnappings, violence etc.  He eats that shit up!  He was bragging about how bad it is and how they are dealing with it...all to preach the Gospel. For the first time in his life, Derick feels important!

Derick has a martyr complex.

I don't like Jill but I actually feel sorry for her.  Derick must be a piece of shit to be married to. He wrapped his arm around Jill as she cried?  WTF, Derick? You brought her there and are keeping her there.  Does he enjoy Jill being frightened and miserable? Sadistic, isn't it?

I know she was joking but thought Jana's comment about they would have been better off wearing flip flops than boots during the survival training was another jab at the internetters.  Except it took a minute for Joy to catch on which ruined the sarcasm.

Why did Jill need to email home for prayers for help when she had to realize the falling shower rack was what made the noise when she went into the bathroom, their safe room?  She also mentioned a lot she needs her man around for protection, whether it be from bugs or villains.

Babe mentioned something about the marital bed at the end. I rewound twice but still couldn't understand what he said. Anyone remember?

Back to the Wedding... Of COURSE they are getting married in time for November Sweeps. They probably made an agreement with JimBob who had most likely contracted with TLC for a wedding special.

Strangely enough. my TLC channel (and no other channel) froze during the Jill and Derek section of last night's episode, so I didn't get to hear them discuss DangerAmerica. .  Probably Divine Providence.

The story didn't make sense completely. I think there is more to this story.

They heard, what sounded like, glass shattering.  Jill and Izzy went to the "safe room" which is the bathroom. She emailed home for prayers, thinking they were in the middle of an attack.

They discovered the shower rack.    Why didn't they realize this as soon as Jill hit the bathroom?  You have time to e-mail when you think you're being attacked? I wouldn't be emailing at that moment. Maybe she called home and didn't want to say that?  But if she is in the bathroom, didn't she see the rack immediately?  Is there another bathroom in their house?

Sucks for Derick, but them's the breaks when you marry a girl you've only met a handful of times in person. Derick may think all Jill needs is time to grow, but she's had nearly two years now and it ain't happening. It's time to say "we gave it a shot but it didn't work out." Given what a basket case Jill is, I don't think anyone would judge them for it.

I think I figured out what happened in Jill's story.  She heard the crash of the shower rack.  I take that to be one of those things you hang up in the shower to hold your shampoo, etc.  It wasn't the shower curtain or the shower rod.  She ran into the "safe" bathroom and began sending scary messages to the fam.  Maybe she didn't yet know what caused the noise because the shower curtain hid the rack from view. It probably wasn't until our hero Derick came home and checked out everything that they discovered the source of the noise.  It's the kind of story you laugh about afterwards, but Jill is too terrified to get to that point.  It will probably take her 10 years back in Arkansas before she can do that.

I had the impression that Jill was still nursing Izzy, or had been recently.  Maybe that has kept her from getting pregnant.

Boob may have met his match with Jeremy.  Jinge may be the first to really get out.  Jeremy would make a good youth pastor--maybe he won't be stuck in Laredo in that tiny church forever.

The word "kidnapping" was mentioned numerous times last night. I wonder if those two didn't have some trouble. Obviously, they are Americans and not native to the area.  I bet that people realize they are "TV stars in the USA".  Put those things together...could be a bad scene.

@Jeeves thank you for your respectful response. I do agree with you and understand...their "mission" is a joke, and an insult to those that really do missions in Central America. I also want to add, Jill is fragile and should stay permenently in Arkansas. My statement was purely the fact that people were making fun of her for being scared of a shower rack, she wasn't. She was afraid for her safety. Thank you again for respect and discussion...I was afraid post!

OH MY GOD.   I am left speechless!

Funniest moments of the show last night:

1. Jill & Derrick groping each other excessively on the couch then the random salsa move Derrick did to kiss Jill

2. Jana attempting to crack a joke about wearing flip flops in the forest while Joy sat there totally blanked out missing the joke but Jana continued to stare at her

3. The look on Jinger's face when the interviewer asked about how soon they would start a family... then, the look got even better when Jessa states you'll be expecting by the end of the year

4. The fact that the show was referred to as an  after show with at least 3 more episodes to air

5. When Derrick was blabbing on and onnnnn about a simple question of what do you think about Jinger and Jeremy's courtship...Jeremy is behind him but poor Derrick is still so serious giving his long speech.

6. The competition between Jessa and Jill of who can show their toddler more affection in 5 seconds when the little ones came out and they acted like it had been a week since they saw their kids instead of 5 minutes

7. Them showing the guys getting makeup done...awkward

8. The camera shots of all their odd facial expressions...was that editing or real time reactions??

I'm sorry, I am LOLing and maybe I shouldn't be, but questions 212 and 213:

212: Do you hold the door for ladies?  213: Do you let them go first?

Sure, I hold the door for ladies but then I shove myself in front of them in order to get through the door first.  WTF kind of stupid questions are these?!

But seriously...how many credit cards to you have?  Do you have any medical conditions?  How many times a day do you call your mother?  How do you feel about birthday cake?  What's your favorite color?  Do you believe in the Easter Bunny?

These are NOT "getting to know you" questions.  This is a way for the potential father-in-law to gain all kinds of ammunition and one-sided knowledge against his future son-in-law.  Any guy who gets this handed to him should run screaming for the hills.  Now I get it when Jessa said that Bin handed his paperwork over to JB in sections.  I totally thought she was being sarcastic.  Holy crap, y'all.

He said that sticking to the courtship rules would ensure that the "marriage bed" would not be "defiled."  *vomit*

So was it all the hand sex that Josh and Anna had that led to their "marriage bed" being "defiled" by Josh the Vile?

Can you just see Ben's answers?

A lot of big words and fancy vocabulary, using his best Edwardian Script to impress Jim Bob.

On the other hand, Jim Bob is a jerk and he is upfront about being a jerk. Jim Bob is letting his jerk flag fly so any guy is well aware of what they are getting into.  Clearly, no surprises.

How many of us thought we had nice in-laws and then found out the hard way?
