The storyline is brutal. It's so depressing to watch and I feel like it's going to go on for months on end. Sarah might not be able to get a grip but at least she's reacting normally to what happened. The other two, David especially just come off like serial killers. The plot is stupid anyway. Had they rang the police from the beginning the police would have believed them. Burying him under the house is just insane even for soaps. It's just too far and I can't see how they're going to right this.

I think Corrie really suffers when it focuses on one particular storyline and spend too much time on just a few characters. This stupid Callum story has been going on for over a year and is threatening to go even longer. The show has such a rich cast and great set of characters that they need to spread the wealth a little. I liked Kylie and David just fine before this, could've done without Sarah and Bethany and now I'm just fatigued by all of them. It was like a couple of years ago when the writers were in love with Michelle (and also Tina/Carla/Stella for a bit) and had her involved in literally everything and you just grew sick of her. Now I'm actually quite fond of her now that they've settled her a bit.

The elder characters are taking a back seat to the 'sexier' storylines, but the gentler, mature moments with these characters is really what made Corrie stand out to me.

Unpopular opinion: I like Carla and Nick. Then again I generally love anything involving Carla because I think Alison King knocks it out of the park with everything she's given. I like her and Nick because it's probably the most normal, calmest relationship she's ever had and it's refreshing that the drama she's involved in has nothing to do with the man she's seeing for once. And Nick, for all of his pettiness and immaturity before has really turned a corner for me.

I like the Nazirs, but they haven't been given anything to do I find. Corrie hasn't been great with diversity, so I just wish they utilized these characters better.

I love Carla and Nick, too. I think that Ben Price and Alison King have great chemistry. Plus, I adore the normalcy of their relationship.

As much as I despised Callum and his reign of terror, I don't like the way the storyline played out. It could have gone another way. I wished that he would have just gone to prison.

As for Simon/Leanne- I'm so glad that this storyline is over. I hate the way he turned on her- that kid is so messed up. I know that he hasn't had the most stable childhood, thanks to Peter and I shudder to think what he'll be like as an adult.

Simon/Leanne? I guess when a show has been on as long as Corrie, repeating plotlines will be inevitable, but I feel like this rebellious devil child story has been done so many times in the past. We saw it with David, Chesney and Ryan Connor to a point. I mean given what the kid's been through he's bound to be messed up, but I would've liked to have seen it handled differently. I dread to think that we're probably going to see Max going through the same thing when he's older if they stick around.

While I appreciate that Sarah's reaction to Callum's death may be more true to life than Kylie and David's, I just don't know how much longer I'll be able to watch her  walking around jumping at every little thing, and living just on this side of full blown panic.  And now Kylie is tarting to act like that too? Joy.

So a couple of deparrtures:

and

. Seemingly unrelated.

OK, gotta say that I totally LOVED that concrete being poured and Callum being buried under the Platt's garage 'forever'....leaves a nice possibility of future consequences...

Didn't they already do this storyline with Fiz and burying the body under the factory floor?

Poor Fiz, they never let her be happy.  I hate this new storyline for her and her sick child.

Sweet holy hell....much more of Tracey Barlow and her neverending, fishwife-y, nasty, mememememe constant carping and I'll be switching channels the second she appears...And that kid of hers is turning out just like her...I expected Amy (is that right?) to have some serious issues, but this little twerp is a mini-me of the worst kind...

Liz has once again turned into a total waste of space and if tptb expect anyone to buy the 'new' Tony, they're out of their ever lovin' minds.

Too many new folks who add absolutely nothing worth watching played off against either the absence or downplaying of the more interesting stock characters is driving this show right into the ground.  The only consistent thing I see is the return of evil David, but since I could never stand that sleazy-nasty idiot to begin with, it's hardly an incentive to give a rat's ass about the show. I think I need to try and find a spoiler to give me hope for the future of the show or I'll just have to put it in the trash with all the US soaps that are too stupid to deserve an audience.

Ok I'm at the the point where David just found out about Gavin.

Ugh!, I just want Andy to scream at David and Gail about how horrible they are. I know Andy was wrong but damn the Platts are a crazy horrible family. Micheal is lucky he never got to meet real Gavin.

I just don't give a damn about Sarah or her daughter. Where is everyone else at this point?

RIP Tony Warren, father of Coronation Street.

Did he have any idea of how bad his show had become? One has merely to go on the Internet and see petition after petition to get rid of the producer who has driven this show into the ground. It used to be a cut above the American drivel - more down-to-earth, more believable, more REAL. Sadly, it became EXACTLY like an American soap - insultingly stupid and totally UNBELIEVABLE

Corrie became obsessed with women who were too stupid to know about contraception. It was just a constant parade of who's going to get knocked up next. And then they just had to make it a TWELVE YEAR OLD GIRL!!! And if that wasn't disgusting enough, some skank that Nick hooks up with - who just loved telling his mother about their romps <Gag> - and who looks like she is clearly in menopause territory - announces that she is preggers. Apparently she lost it (Thank God!) but I didn't care because I had stopped watching by then.

I watched this show faithfully for 10 years and it went from engaging and enjoyable to boring, stupid and insulting.

I'm sure this is NOT what poor Tony would have wanted.

I have been away from Corrie for too long - the prospect of the return of Phelan send me screaming....gave up on American soaps long ago....last summer, when I had the pleasure of spending a couple of weeks on a tour of England/Scotland/Wales, I watched as much Corrie AND Hollyoaks and EastEnders as possible while there!  Rather surprised to see the earlier post decrying the similarity between US soaps and Brits - for my money (and viewing time) y'all on the other side of the pond are still head and shoulders above the soft porn airbrushed crap we have going on here - the storylines may not be that far removed from each other, BUT the people on British soaps actually look like REAL PEOPLE...My first trip to England in 2004 expanded my knowledge base of British soaps from Corrie to include the aforementioned others I was able to enjoy...in 2015, while US soaps had dropped like flies until now there are only (I believe) 4 daytime soaps left, I was still able to pickup and watch all three of my old friends in the comfort of my Kensington Close hotel room (among others) after a hard day's sightseeing...nothing like an in-room bedtop picnic of yummy ham and brie on Turkish flatbread sandwich from Whole Foods, sweet chili crisps, a 375 bottle of dry white wine and Hollyoaks, EastEnders and Corriet to make a day complete...geez, I wish I was back there now!

This show first got a 12 year old pregnant 16 years ago when Sarah-Louise Platt fell pregnant. Unplanned pregnancies are nothing new on any soap.

But why do they always have to fall back on that? If they would take their heads out of their asses, and do some good writing - you know....that job that they are PAID to do - they wouldn't have to keep resorting to such a lame, lazy story line, about some moron who hasn't quite figured out how contraception works.

This show is just shite now. A waste of time.

I gave up Corrie a few years ago (around the time that Jack died)  when it seemed like every woman on the show was either pregnant, wanted to get pregnant, was worried she was pregnant or was psychotic after giving birth.  The writers clearly assumed any pre-menopausal woman  has to have a baby storyline which wouldn't be so bad if they wouldn't do it all the same flipping time and lather, rinse, repeat.

Phelan is so hateful and cruel. This show has enough with Tracy always getting away with terrible behavior now we get him terrorizing people. He is such a good actor that I would like to slap him silly though!

I really can't stand Phelan but i hate Anna more. Her rape cry is a complete rewrite. He manipulated the situation but she could have and should have said no to the proposal.

Nobody asked her to do it and then she spent months blaming Owen and anyone else she could think of. Anyone but her precious Gary who had actually caused the mess in the first place.

Amen! I pretty much voiced the same complaints. Why does every bloody soap HAVE to feature stupid women who haven't got a clue about birth control? It is so lame and it says to me that the writers are lazy, unimaginative and have zero respect for their audience.

There has GOT to be more for them to write about than accidental conception and no age group is safe. From a 12 YEAR OLD to pre to post menopause. It's ridiculous. Earn your money, people!

I've totally given up on all soaps, American and English. They are all stupid, insulting and demeaning and a complete waste of time.

If Phelan doesn't end up murdered with one of Charlie's chisels I'll be a monkey's uncle.

And I think Rana is a mentally deranged harpy intent on destroying the Nazirs.

I thought it was devastating. Both actors were fantastic and I feel like Jack P Shepard does not get enough credit for how brilliant he is.

On another note who do we think Leanne's baby daddy is?

I agree Jack P Shepherd doesn't get the credit he deserves. I used to really dislike David ,and I guess that proves he's a good actor.

It was really hard watching the scene with Kylie and David on the street. I admit I cried.

Can you imagine how devastating it would have been if nothing had been leaked.

I think it would be easiy to make it Nick's (boring) . I have a feeling it's going to be Assan(?) Her dead fiancee son (lots of angst). Of course Robert would be the one that would bring the most drama (Tracy)......so  I guess you see I have no idea, lol.

Eta: I almost forgot Steve. Yeah that's my guess.

Yeah I'm still very dubious about the whole Steve/Leanne baby deal. I kept hoping Peter would pop up and that would be the other big reveal. Its actually kinda incestuous when you think about how its going to affect Simon and Amy.  I love Steve and Leanne as friends but I think they might be boring as a couple. Plus after all the drama to get Steve and Michelle back together it feels like a waste to just split them up again.

Jack P Shepard is amazing and I hope he gets all the awards for this one.

I don't think they'll be putting Steve/Leanne together. Not with Peter returning and Leanne/Nick on the horizon.

I could see this being dramatic for the next few months but then once the baby comes along they'll all make friends and it'll end up being more comical then depressing.

Yeah I'm wondering if we won't see a retcon since Peter is coming back. Given how far ahead they plan they might have cooked up this Turkey before they knew Peter was coming back. I still hope he gets back with Leanne they are one of my all time favourite Corrie couples. I don't think Peter is coming back for Leanne at least initially.

I think Ken's going to be involved in the whole Pub fire/"Death of Legend" stuff their promoting right. I don't think Ken will actually die, he'll just be injured.  They'll make us think he will die and the episode will end with Norris getting a call from Spider about Emily or something.  With all the theories about Jim MacDonald returning I wonder if he might be the one who ends up dying. Considering what he was up to last time we saw him I  don't see Jim getting out of prison soon, not legally anyway. He could break out and try to get Liz to run off  with him again and then burn the pub down when she rejects him or something. Jim MacDonald would definitely qualify as a "Corrie legend". Although I would laugh so hard if its Maria as she is only a "Corrie legend" for being  a spectacular idiot or a just plain dull.

I loved Leanne and Peter before Carla trounced all over it. Now id hate to see them back together mainly because I quite like Nick and Leanne and also because eventually Ali King will be back regardless of what she says and then we'll just be back to the merry go round of everyone loves Carla and Leanne will be left with whichever man Carla doesn't pick.

I think the fact that Chris Gascoyne only came back after Alison King left just confirms all the rumors about those two hating each other in the end. Hell I wouldn't blame him if his contract included that those to are to never ever get back together considering how well that went for Peter's character. Chris Gascoyne really has TPTB over a barrel right now I don't see Alison King coming back with the same clout. Carla was beloved sure but shes not a Barlow and Peter's a lot more versatile a character. I suspect the only reason that pairing happened in the first place is that Chris Gascoyne went along with it to get along.  I really don't see how they would get Peter and Carla back together at this point anyway that relationship was seriously toxic.

Peter and Leanne I could see because I don't think Leanne wanted to end it and I could see Peter realizing Leanne was actually good for him. Peter wouldn't still be pissing Leanne off as much as he does if she didn't care. Peter was good for Leanne too actually, he really believed in her and brought out her softer side. With Nick I feel like she never quite thought she was good enough for him. Or more accurately Gail never let her forget it. Besides Nick is like a security blanket for Leanne I don't see this reunion really lasting. She doesn't really want Nick she just doesn't want to be pregnant and alone.

Anyone else not liking the Steve character lately? His selfishness is becoming unbearable to watch. Not wanting anymore kids because of money! Why Michelle loves him is a mystery to me. Big mistake to have Leanne pregnant by the likes of him.

So what with the Olympics and some DVR issues, I may have missed an episode here and there, so why the heck is Kaz still around?  Wasn't she supposed to be under court-martial proceedings?  Doesn't this woman have any other friends (unlikely, I know, because seriously she is the most unpleasant, bitchy looking woman I've seen on my screen in many a moon) that she can kip with?  And if she was under proceedings, wouldn't she be in the British version of the brig?  The British Air Force just lets their soldiers run away and fake injuries with no consequences?

I also must have missed the explanation about Kaz's situation. An episode last week showed her in full uniform walking up the street, saying she was off to work. But maybe that was a farce? I heard that she's going to get into some mischief, so maybe she's setting up an alibi with the "back to work" story. I'm not sure.

Maria is such a gullible idiot though. She's a complete cow to the likes of Luke, Eva who actually seem to like her and then bends over backwards for the clearly unstable Caz. It's prob to show how kind she is but she comes off like a mug.

Link to comment

No, Maria is just a big idiot and kind of selfish.  Wait for the inevitable "Caz falls in love with Maria and causes no end of trouble for them both" plotline.  I see her making the Street think Maria is crazy again so Maria is left without friends so that, bam! Caz can rescue her.  And Luke will know, but won't care because Maria is kind of a selfish bitch.  (BTW, this is pure speculation after decades of Corrie watching...I'm not spoiling anything other than clichés)

I don't know I'm finding misery guts Leanne pretty unlikeable in all of this too. Won't be long before she stomps all over Nicks heart again.

To be fair Leanne did try to keep Nick out of it by running off to Liverpool. Nick was the one who tracked her down and begged to be let into the mess in the end.  Besides Nick is the one who is always trying to control Leanne and ends up sending her running off. (Leanne plays a part since she keeps going back but since most of Nicks insecurities are about the fact that shes smarter and tougher than he is its hard to fault her for it. ) Last time the brain injury just brought out the control issues and removed his inhibitions around them IMO.  Whenever Nick gets Leanne back he can't seem to help acting like he did back when they got married the first time. The whole relationship is stuck back in their teenage years. That's why I can never get behind these two even leaving Peter out of the equation.

Link to comment

Anna is is being extra ridiculous about Faye's boyfriend. If shes that worried get the girl an IUD or an implant even that moron can't fuck that up.

On the brightside Peter is back and he and Leanne are already talking secrets. Countdown to him finding out the baby being Steve's is already running.

Especially since Nick is so wrapped up in his brothers drama. Its interesting that Nick is so involved all the time in his family to the exclusion of everything else. Even Carla was barely in the door with "The Platts". Its not just that Nicks family needs him to be the sane one either, it that Nick needs them to need him. That's the other thing that keeps driving Leanne away, Gail will never accept her. I don't blame her the difference between how the Barlow's treat Leanne and the Platts do was stark these last few episodes.  Tracy actually treats Leanne more like part of the family than any of Nick's bunch.  (I mean she ridicules and argues with her but that's how the Barlows communicate).  I still don't get why they never tried Nick with Maria again after he came back Maria is connected through the salon to Audrey and David at least.

That said so much of this is so OTT its hard to watch. Jack P Shepard is trying but even he is having a hard time selling this ridiculousness.

Well the new Barlow's are actually pretty decent. I was worried about Adam in particular since the actor was pretty bland his first time around. This time he is a lot more interesting. It helps that he has good chemistry with Peter and Tracy. Seeing bond with Simon is cute too.
I would like to see more of Amy in this. There is a lot of testosterone in that house right now. He also has yet to share to the screen with Leanne someone who he actually has a fairly complicated history with (She and Adam's half brother cooked up a plan to steal Adam's inheritance although it ended up falling apart). I doubt there's any malice especially now that shes Simon's mum but I have been wondering if they'll address that.

I'm also not crazy about him dating Maria. For one she already dated Peter which is kinda weird. There's also the fact the Adam and Liam Connor Sr. were actually friends and fairly close ones at that. Its a little odd to me that they've gone to all the trouble of bringing back the old actor to ignore so much of his history.

Daniel is still a bit of a cipher but its nice that he of such a different mold. Its cute that Adam Simon and Peter are all so obviously cast of the same mold but its still nice to have another personality type in the mix.

Okay, Corrie experts.  Once again I must have missed a couple of episodes.  What happened to Sophie that caused Kevin to try to raise money that of course led to the ruin of the garage at the hands of Evil Phelan?  Last time I heard, she was going to Florida? California? with Rosie.
