Catching Kelce - General Discussion

I'm glad he let Jordan "the most beautiful girl here" go. She didn't seem significantly more attractive than anyone else in the room, but she certainly believed it. Salma was delusional with her insistence that she had a connection with Travis. Annika is a professional comedian, so basically she's just there to get attention try to be the breakout star of the show by being awkward, rude, immature, funny looking, or whatever it takes. London, the born-again Christian never had a chance, and the beauty vlogger girl seemed kinda vapid.

I hope Missouri represents since Kansas blew it.  I thought Arizona looked like she had work done, so I didn't get the whole "most beautiful woman in the room" bit.

So Annika is a stand-up?  So she, like Georgia, is "pushing her brand".  *sigh*. I hate that I can't look at these girls without thinking of Season 2 of UnReal.

I personally found both Arizona and Connecticut to be UNattractive (and Connecticut had the added benefit of being delusional) so was pleasantly surprised to see both leave.  I'm sorry, but being tall, thin and blonde is not enough to automatically qualify someone as "most beautiful girl in the room" though I know enough people who fit that description (both "tall, thin and blonde" and thinking they are always the most beautiful girl in the room).  Hubby happened to walk in when she was on camera, not knowing anything about the show, and when I said "so, do you think she's beautiful?" he looked at me like I was crazy.

I'd love to see Avery (Colorado?) for the win, since her family is quite cool. I know she only name-checked her dad, the football player, but her brother Daniel pitched in the majors for a few years and currently is with the Blue Jays at Double-A.  Very cool guy.  Plus, I think she is gorgeous. (I found an interview I did with him eight years ago and actually at the time asked him what reality show he'd kick butt on, hahahaha. Small world.)  Assuming they have the same mom (no reason not to think so, but you can never assume), she's half-Japanese.

I also like New Jersey but hope her perky cuteness stays sweet and doesn't get annoying.

Finally, I LOVED Rhode Island's calling herself "fun-sized." That is the term I always use about myself, my daughter et al ... all 5-foot-2 of us.  I thought I'd made it up.

I agree that Avery from Colorado would be a great match for Kelce. She's has good looks, but not high-maintenance OTT (looking at you, YouTube "guru" whose name escapes me.) Avery actually knows something about football, having grown up with it and didn't seem overly impressed with the "lifestye." Kelce liked her, so fingers crossed.

That girl from Connecticut (Salma?) was so full off herself and the instant "chemistry." Geez ... I wasn't sorry to see her go. What's with the chick from Minnesota? She's a wack-job, plus I didn't find her the least bit attractive.

I'll be a good sport and watch one of our hometown athletes, but I'm not sure if I can put up with weekly cat-fights and bitch-fests.  Thankfully, the producers culled the herd pretty efficiently.

So far I like Avery from Colorado and the lady from New Jersey. They're the most down-to-earth yet interesting.

But we never met Delaware!!  Why didn't we ever meet Ms. Delaware???!!!! ( I guess you can tell where I live).

Because I watch UnReal, I'm imagining Quinn in the production room watching footage of the show, and there are cards next to the ladies' pictures: Jesus Freak (London), Fatal Attraction (Salma), Party Girl (CeeCee), Bat-Shit Crazy (Annika), Wifey (I'm not sure who that is yet).

And of course, Quinn (or the Quinn equivalent) told them to play up their angles: like the Christianity, or Salma feeling the connection between her and Kelce, or Annika's zaniness. I do like the relative diversity of the cast: there are a few black women, and Salma looked East Indian. But were there any Latina women? I couldn't tell. And I didn't see any Asian women. I wonder if Kelce requested the kind of women he liked to date or, like the TV show UnReal, the producers picked who they wanted on the show.

And I didn't find Jordan (Arizona) attractive at all. She had the fish lips of a person who's had way too much plastic surgery. I know that many people get nose jobs these days, but Jordan is too young to have had all of that face work (Lips? Cheeks? Eyes? Nose?). I think Kelce called her beautiful only because the producers told him to. On my screen, she looked down-right scary.

By the way, if you look at a feature about some of the interesting characters (i.e., nutjobs) on the first episode, I think it's on Heavy.com, they show some of the official shots of the contestants and you HAVE to see the one for Salma ... either a) who ever does the photoshopping really hates her or b) she is a mutant, because her head is twice the size of her body.

She looks like an alien insect.

I think it's the angle of the photography. Some of the photos were shot straight on, which is, you know, normal. Others seemed to be shot at an angle. Some of the other pictures also make the ladies' heads look big.

Oh, I forgot to mention that the 60 second intros on the football field were awkward. The ones who came out dancing or singing were weird. Or the one who wanted to hug Travis for 60 seconds. I'm glad he weeded out some of the weirdos early on. But clearly not all of the weirdos.

I think the obvious Wifey is either New Jersey or maybe Rhode Island, except that I think Colorado will be the best fit for him because he's definitely not boring (looking at Benny and Bushy).

Really? Travis didn't seem to like CeeCee very much. This seems like a situation where Rachel and Quinn (forgive me) told him he has to keep her around for a while because she's interesting.

Why is Veronica (V) so darn territorial about Travis?? She acts like she's the one he's gonna pick and the rest of the girls are just there to get in her way? What the...? And then she said something I thought was REALLY dumb: Something like "I've never had any white chocolate before" to Travis.  Uh, honey? He's a white guy. Nothing chocolate about him.  Maybe coconut??

Link to comment

Do you mean Maya? She's the one that got picked for the date. Oh, and there is such a thing as white chocolate.

Veronica (V-Rich) is the one always calling meetings who considers herself the house mother. It's hard for me to believe that she's an attorney--sometimesshe acts really ghetto--i.e. unprofessional and with bad grammar, and her on-the-town clothing can be a little tacky. And she has that hoop earring in her nose. In what law firm would she be able to wear that?

I'm glad LoLo (Washington) got sent home--she was annoying, and her deal breakers were strange. You couldn't date a guy who likes the elliptical? I like that Travis secretly admitted that he did.

But I liked Jenny (Oregon), and I didn't know much about Nevada, but she seemed nice. I have a feeling, though, that Travis likes women who are more extroverted than the two of them--or who are good at faking it.  Or maybe it's the producers who want more extroverted women.

I can't believe I'm still watching this show. I have no idea why. But it was pretty amusing to watch Maya's little plan backfire on her. She thought she picked all of the weak girls so she could shine, and she got overshadowed. What I couldn't understand was her ire over Travis kissing another girl, or choosing another girl for the one-on-one. Or why she got so mad at Annika about the letter. She seemed to have forgotten that those women were her competition, not her girl squad. They're all there to get the same guy. They aren't her friends, so I don't know why she thought anyone would respect those imaginary boundaries of hers. Especially after she told she she picked them because they're all losers who need to go home.

I agree. Travis told Maya that group date would be an opportunity to get to know all five girls better, not just her.  Maybe she expected him to be so wowed by her that he would forget about everyone else.

I ask myself the same thing--why I still watch this show. I honestly think it's because I like Travis--he's funny, wacky, charming, and cute. And I like the two guys he brings with him to parties (his brother and his agent?). The women are your typical reality show desperate ladies, so I don't care about them much.

Alas, the crabby genius that was last night's post is lost due to system upgrade, so here is the mediocre-crabby I can write today:

I like Avery and hope she takes Travis's giant, blinking-sign, glow-in-the-dark hint: Stop being a woman of mystery.  You're on a reality show, babe -- that ship has sailed.

Thank goodness he dumped the Scary Twins.  I guess the producers had finally had enough of Annika too.

I am so sick of networks and their supposed timing of their shows.

Ok on this week's show with the red carpet event.......the winner of the football thingy got to choose 3 girls to go with her.........my DVR cutout when the last 2 girls were the only ones in the chairs.  They would be Minnesota and the black girl who would not shut up.  One of them was going home........

WHO WENT HOME?????

Thanks for the info. My DVR cut off, too before the final choice. I had a feeling that Travis would send both Annika and "V" packing. V was  a nasty piece of work and Annika was just plain weird.  I didn't find either of them to be that attractive either.  Originally I was rooting for Avery, but yeah, she's acting pretty coy. Like voiceover said, this is a reality show and the playing hard to get or whatever she's doing, isn't working.  Hopefully, being called into elimination was a wake-up call. Right now, I'm on Team Lauren.  It would be a great to see a hometown girl win our KC Chief heart-throb!!

Oh, yeah. What I meant was that I'm from KCMO, so it's extra cool that she's from my state of residence. I have no idea what city/town she's from, though. I think if she were local, there's be a lot more buzz about it in the news.

Link to comment

The weird thing for me about Lauren (Missouri), and maybe it was just bad makeup or bad lighting, is that I really thought in most shots she looked downright ghoulish! Not attractive at all.

I'm wondering what's up with Avery ... she seemed in the first episode to have a really outgoing and fun personality and she was one of my two picks to go very far ... I can't figure out why she seems to have just crawled into a shell this past week. I still think she is dropdead gorgeous and knows what it's like to live in a pro sports life (with not just her dad but also her brother being professional athletes).

I know we saw almost nothing from New Jersey this week but I still have her high on my list of favorites ... doesn't cause drama, seems incredibly sweet and real, and is absolutely beautiful. If the Avery thing doesn't improve big-time by next week ("thing" being her seeming lack of interest in him, which is really the only possibility I can think of ... maybe SHE is the one not feeling it?), then I'm looking for New Jersey (Veronica, I think?) to be a dark horse.

And I'm not. She really annoys me for some reason. I know most of the girls are cocky, but her cockiness seems excessive. The other women seem to focus on the fact that they've got a great connection with Travis or that he'd see the connection if he really got to know them--which is BS, I know. But Lauren constantly refers to herself as the most beautiful, the most fit, the person with the best personality, etc. Her declarations have nothing to do with Travis and everything about her.

And while I agree that both Anika and V-Rich (?) were annoying with their drama, I can't believe that Anika resorted to the lie of "the scary black woman threatened me, and I'm scared." And she actually started crying. SMH. Travis didn't seem to care one way or another--he just didn't want the drama, and I can't say I blame him.

I was sad that Ashley (?) of New Mexico got sent home. She seemed nice, but didn't really connect with Travis.

Right now I'm still team Avery and team New Jersey. I think they'll be the final two.

Ugh.  I need a shower.  This was the worst episode yet.  What I do for my Chiefs!!

Lexi is sweet but I just had to RME to the moon when she told Travis she's "Lebanese and Arabic".  And I'm Midwestern and American.

grisgrisI feel like I might have offended you with my joke/not joke about "some people"* not getting why we'd refer to Lauren/Missouri as the "hometown girl".

*No one in this thread, but many people --possibly including some of the girls on the show -- don't realize that while there is a Kansas City, Kansas, that the Chiefs play in Kansas City, Missouri.

Some of these contestants have become annoying. What's up with the baby voices that some of them use? Lexi (although Travis called hers a 'porn voice,' Lorelai (not her name, I know. Miss California), and even CeeCee all use these whiny, high-pitched voices. Drives me crazy. Is it a Kardashian thing? It makes the women seem really, really dumb.

And I don't know why they felt Maya back-stabbed anybody. This is a competition. It's every woman for herself. And why did Lexi lie on Maya? 'She told me she wanted to go home.'  Lies! Drama!   Why am I still watching this show?

I don't know how Travis kept a straight face during the elimination scene. Jamie Leigh and all that crying. I know I couldn't stop laughing.

If Lauren wins, I will stop rooting for Kansas City. Something about her rubs me the wrong way.

Link to comment

Ha! Ha! No. You didn't offend me, voiceover.  I take it we're from the same neck of the woods and on the "other" side of the river! LOL! So who got sent home? My damned DVR always cuts off before the show is over.

I hope it was Jamie Leigh. Man, that chick was getting kinda stalkerish/cray-cray. Also, why does she think she's in a "relationship" with Travis at this point? So she shoved her tongue* down his throat once or twice.  If I were him, her aggressiveness and possessive attitude would be huge red flags.

I honestly thought that during elimination they all sounded like a bunch of braying sheep with the "Why Travis?" "Why did you choose Maya?" Travis really doesn't owe any other them an explanation.  I could see why he picked Maya.  She seemed the most intelligent (and that's not saying much.)

*Speaking of ... did it gross anybody else out to see all of the tongue action during the kisses. I know that I would not want to kiss him after all of that. The only reason why I watch this weekly hour of my life that I will never get back is because of the KC Chiefs tie-in. Now, whenever I watch a game, I feel this "connection" to Travis ... like I know him. Ha! Ha! (I am old enough to easily be his mother!)

And they amplify the sounds of lips and tongues, making it even more disgusting.

I wonder why everyone is ganging up on Maya? I hope she's learned to avoid drama.

I'm glad Loreina was sent back to California. She has that annoying baby voice, and she was one of the people making up lies about Maya.

I like CeeCee, but I don't know if Travis sees her as a potential girlfriend. So far, she's just a party girl.

Lolo (is that her name?) is a baby-talking Kardashian wanna-be. I don't dislike her for any specific reason, but she seems really, really dumb. I hope she's not what Travis is looking for.

I don't have any problems with Veronica (New Jersey) and Lauren (?) (Missouri). But there's nothing about them that stands out, either.

Avery is still my favorite. She avoids drama, but she's somewhat aloof with Travis, too. Hopefully, his interest will continue.

Link to comment

Oh, you mean the girl from Kentucky with the long dark hair. That's not Lolo, (Lolo got sent home a few weeks ago) but crap, I'm blanking on her name right now.  Travis keeps her around because he likes her "porn voice." /eyeroll.   Wait until he sees her in the light of day without the tons of spackled on makeup, false eyelashes, acrylic nails and yards of hair extensions. YIKES! I also don't see him with a woman who needs four-five hours to get ready to go toss a football around in the park on a nice afternoon.  OTBW, she was also heavily stirring the pot with Maya gossip during elimination time.

I think that he's going to soon see that CeeCee drinks too much and gets out of control pretty quickly. It's one thing to be the life of the party but guzzling straight up from the bottle is another thing. This ideal woman has to be able to maintain a balance between having a good time and behaving in a way that would potentially embarrass Travis.

Avery needs to drop the playing hard to get game. He's going to eventually get tired of it and turn his attention elsewhere. Right now, she seems like she's leading the pack. Now go burn your copy of "The Rules" and get in there and play like it's the 21st Century, sweetheart!

BTW, our guy got ejected from the Chiefs-Jaguars game last Sunday for unsportsmanlike conduct and racked up 30 yards worth of penalties. Lucky for him we won, but it could have very easily gone the other way towards the end of the game.

Lexi. Her name is Lexi. She'd grown on me by the end, but she still didn't seem like girlfriend material. So I'm not surprised that she got sent back to Georgia. She was from Georgia??? I like that she told Travis and Maya that they'd better send her a Christmas card. It was a sweet, sad good-bye.

And you were right about CeeCee. Travis saw her as the life of the party and not much more.  And did Veronica really sleep with him????

So Travis is going from 4 to one this week. Hmmm. Who will catch Kelce?

I'm of two minds: I really like Avery, and she and Travis have great chemistry. But Travis also told Eric Decker's wife (Jessie James Decker?) that Lauren seemed like wife material. I wonder if he said that because the producers told him to or if that's how he really feels. And is he looking for wife material right now?

So I'll stick with Avery as my pick but wouldn't be surprised if he chose Lauren.

Link to comment

Yes. I think Veronica definitely slept with him. She looked like she could barely walk when she stumbled out of the vehicle. LOL! Her red makeup-free face told it all. Ugh. Well, I guess "try it before you buy it."

I predict a TH with his brother next week about how he can't possibly be serious about and marry a woman who'd sleep with a guy so soon ... blah, blah, blah ... double standard. (To be honest, this is the first "relationship" type of reality show I've managed to sit through and maybe sleeping with candidates is expected and encouraged?) The brother will solemnly agree. There goes "Roni." Personally, I found her to be annoying once I saw her on a one-on-one date with Travis. She seemed kind of flaky and as he pointed out, talked a mile a minute.  Both Avery and Lauren seem more intelligent and grounded.

I'd be fine with either Lauren or Avery. He might be keeping Lauren around for reasons other than true love. It makes me wonder if he got any flak that there are plenty of "hot" accomplished women in both Kansas City and L.A.  So choosing a Missourian would be a good move.  K.C. isn't a big "WAGS" city. The only time we ever hear about the wives or girlfriends of any of the Chiefs is if they get into some type of domestic legal situation. Fortunately, that hasn't happened in years. It's also always the players who go out and do charitable projects, sometimes their WAGS will get involved in something like a food drive at Arrowhead Stadium. Anyway, nobody around here really cares about TK other than that he performs well on the field.  (I know I'm W-A-A-Y out of the age demographic who'd be interested in him, so I might be way off base! LOL!)

There's an ep of The Middle where Frankie is so distraught over The Bachelor's final choice, she won't let it go, and spends the entire show obsessing.  I didn't get it, because I had never watched any of the "dating" shows.

Now I do.  What. The. FUCK.  Didn't like either girl; thought they were phony and -- in Veronica's case -- a moron.  The only time I ever noticed her? Was after everyone else was gone.

Travis.  *shakes head sadly* Sorry I watched.  I think he's a terrific football player, and he'd be fun at a party, but --- arghhhhhhhh.  Lost respect, I can't lie.

Ha! ETA: I was still shaking my head over his stupid life choice when I remembered an episode of Friends (because, of course) -- Rachel & Phoebe had been extolling [guest star Kristin Davis's] finer qualities, and Joey just rolled his eyes at them: "Boy, do YOU know what guys want!"

Color me surprised. I did not think he'd choose Maya. Veronica was fun and somewhat pretty, but she did not seem intelligent at all.

It seemed like the final three were in it to win the game, not because they really cared about Travis. I originally wasn't rooting for Lauren (who ended up at #4), but by the end, she was the only one who seemed sincere.

I was surprised that Avery got sent home.

Wow, glad you're here, and that you wrote that, because I co-sign it all -- especially Maya, who seemed to have digested entire seasons of WAGS whole, and came on to play that game.  I was rooting for Lauren/Avery/CeeCee (pretty much in that order) -- especially Lauren and CeeCee, who looked like they were having a good time & had a sense of humor about it.  Some of the others? a business transaction.

Okay, I'm officially old. I had to look up 'WAGS' (Wives and Girlfriends, right?).

I've heard that Maya and Travis are still dating. At least they were as of a month ago. Good for them, although I can't say Maya is someone I'd ever choose as a friend. She's very conniving.  In October, I listened to an interview with Travis on Kansas City radio--but they never gave the name of the woman he was dating. BTW, the interview was about the Kansas City Chiefs, not this show. But 'Chasing Kelce' comes up all of time. Even on Sundays after Travis scores a touchdown, a commentator will inevitably mention it.

One positive aspect of the show's outcome: I never see black women go far on dating reality shows. Except on UnReal, which was fictional. I definitely never expected to see a black woman win. But, yeah, I don't plan to go on the Internet looking for public comments. They would certainly depress and anger me.

Bwah! The only reason I could throw that around is because one middle-of-the-night TV cruise found me watching the first 5 minutes of the series by the same name.  Then I turned it off & read a book instead.

I always thought Maya one of the most gorgeous women on the show.  Then as time went on and her "friends" started disappearing, I liked her less.

But I wish them well!  The most intriguing catch to that selection was what Travis's manager said about how Maya was very like Travis's ex.  That makes Travis...well, a lot more human, I suppose.

I'm glad I came in here to look who Travis picked before I finished the finale because now I don't have to watch the rest. I was def #teamavery but knew after that one on one date that she was toast.  However throughout the last few eps, I was certain he wouldn't pick Maya. She certainly didn't get the winner edit in terms of how much shit she talked about the others and how manipulative she was throughout the show.  She always made it seem like she wanted the prize  - the football player trophy WAG life - instead of Travis.  Veronica at least seemed like she was falling in love with Travis.

I also picked up on what Travis' manager said about Maya and she being like the girls Travis usually picks - I thought he was looking for something different so that it was another strike against her. Guess not.  He seems like a pretty cool guy so I hope Maya is nicer than she seems and that they are happy.  I'm just disappointed.

I didn't care for Maya and was extremely surprised that Travis chose her. Yes, she was beautiful, but let's talk about what's inside. She was petty, mean-spirited, arrogant and manipulative.  I also didn't think she sounded that intelligent. (Actually, NONE of any of the contestants did.)  I didn't like Veronica much better. She really seemed like a dim bulb but sincere in her feelings for Travis.

I thought Travis had bought a clue when he kept bringing up that her "confidence" could easily morph in to arrogance and he didn't sound very pleased about that. He also mentioned how she always threw shade at the other woman. I thought that showed some insight on his behalf.  I was just really surprised that he ultimately chose another woman who was just likes other ones he's had bad luck with.  I guess old patterns are hard to break.

I, too, think that Maya was in for it for the lifestyle. She's going to be sorely disappointed if/when she spends any time in Kansas City.  I'm not saying it's a boring cowtown here at all, but it's nothing like glitz of L.A. and Travis lives here for a good portion of the year. The part of town where the girls stayed and where Travis had his fountain plunge with Avery is the Country Club Plaza and is very upscale and a hot spot.  I'm glad the producers showed a bit of it.

Wow, I just watched the finale (okay, FF'd through a lot of it) and can I just say that I think that fake-out at the end was downright CRUEL. I mean, he basically came out and said he chose Veronica ... enough so that Maya gave her the reluctant gracious congratulatory cheek-kiss ... and then said "but ..." and went with Maya.

I'm  not sure I've ever seen that on one of these shows and frankly it made whatever respect I had for him go right out the door.

And while I know Veronica was broken-hearted, did love her double-flip of the bird and "F you" ... wish we could see Travis' face when he wakes up next to Maya without her make-up, acrylic nails, hairs did, etc. She sounded to me like she was a total fake and basically giving him the answers he wanted without one shred of genuine honesty (and half the time it sounded really convoluted).

My two picks from day one had been Avery and Veronica. I still think had Avery really had any interest in him, she would have had this in the bag.  But she can do a lot better and probably will.

Veronica's 'F you' cracked me up. You can't treat a Jersey Girl like that!!!!

I think that early on, Avery realized she didn't want to play this game anymore. She might have been interested in dating Travis under normal circumstances, and I think Travis agreed.  Think it about it: she made it to the final three without being aggressive and catty like the other women. She refused to fight for a man. You could tell how smitten Travis was by Avery every time he talked to her and how interested he was in getting to know her better, but this show's format didn't allow for that.   I think her elimination was producer-driven. I can see Quinn standing in the background telling Rachel that Avery's gotta go. She wouldn't make the finale dramatic enough.

Travis was all about "you aren't INTO me enough." It was kind of whiny and pathetic and needy.

What surprises/mystifies me is why she was even on this show to start with (Avery, that is). Cannot imagine she'd have any trouble finding a guy, and it didn't seem like she was auditioning for being a famewhore like the others (or would need to).

ETA: Okay, so it's the "aspiring model and actress" part of the resume. Maybe things were a little slow. I think she's slightly atypical and among the hot skinny blondes of LA maybe needed to punch things up a little bit.

Ahhhh yeah!!!! I love reviving old threads.

Travis Kelce has now entered his Taylor Swift era.  When I read that he had a reality dating show on E! from 2016, I had to check it out.  I just started watching the first episode.  Here's hoping that I don't regret my decision (I probably will lol).

LOL same reason I started and finished watching this weekend.   Overall it was an interesting show.   I agree with other posters that it was refreshing to see a black contestant win.    Maya was calculating but no more than a few other girls.  Lauren probably was the "right" person for Kelce on paper though.

Poor Lexi was so clueless through the whole thing but seems like a sweet lady.  Hopefully she found the right person now.   Loved the reactions of a lot of the eliminated contestants...especially delusional Selma, London, V-Rich, and Veronica.

I wonder what Taylor Swift thinks of this show, assuming she watched.   LOL
