I agree, it is hard to say no more to your child.  Someone posted upthread that it isn't easy to see your kid cry, but necessary to teach them that you are in charge and no means no.  Which is easy to say when they are little, but as they get older, it is a lot harder to discipline.  The stakes are higher, and it is emotional.  Disciplining children is a cake walk compared to saying no more to a 20 year old.

Re: saying no to an older child, I'm sure you're right (I only have young children) but I would guess "no" is a word Ryan hasn't heard from Jen at any point in his life. And regardless, there still comes a point when Jen has to do it, no matter how hard it is for her, and I think that point has long passed.

All I got to say is that I am an EPLI* Underwriter and I am so thankful we don't insure her store because there was so many things wrong her interview/work environment.   AND IT WAS ON CAMERA.   That's every class-action lawyers dream.  Illegal questions during the interview and the blatant wage and hour violations (40 hours in 3 days?  Is she paying OT?  Rest breaks?  Is she paying for the uniforms/sunglasses or reimbursing them?) to start.   Gah, I'd love for her employees to file an EEOC suit against her.

*Employment Practices Liability Insurance. It's as sexy as it sounds.

So, is she literally stealing Trump University's business model at a very, very small scale? Charging money for worthless information? Tips on what it takes to run a business: seed money from a porn film and plastic genital molds. Also, I love that she used the correct "wear" in the same sentence as the wrong one. I guess running a successful business doesn't have anything to do with communication skills or attention to detail!

Farrah may have one of the most horrid personalities to ever grace reality Tv  but the girl knows how to hustle.

What was up with ordering all of that food for Sophia and I see ahe still looks and acts like someone fed her after midnight when they aren't suppose to.

You can have a mental illness and still be an asshole.

Something I have said many times on the Real Housewives thread about Kim Richards.

Larry's issue is Ryan is a "fucking bum."  Drug users usually are.

I just have a hard time believing Larry would cut out his son for having a mental disorder/illness/damage. Jen never mentioned such a thing and with all the things Larry said he never mentioned it either. Hell, not even Maci has said a thing about it. At least if he had such a thing going on, it might explain away his behavior towards Bentley. If Maci knew Ryan wasn't all there, she may not actually mention it, but she may have compassion rather than rag on him not being around.

I agree. I think Ryan had legit TBI, Maci probably would have mentioned it. She might cut Ryan a lot more slack. The way people are reacting to him makes me think it's a drug issue.

This one is too funny:

Then I looked at the website where it stated "you may where sunglasses at work as well."  I don't predict good things for a business where the owner can't even spell.

I don't predict good things for a business where employees where sunglasses whilst handling food.

I think Ryan's issue isn't a mental thing, I think it's like Larry said: "He's lazy and a bum". Simple as that. I also think Larry is maybe finding out more things that Jen has kept from him, regarding her protecting Ryan.  And I love Jen and Larry, but I do think Jen probably has lied about certain situations to protect him.  The truth is, we won't know the real story ever. I don't think it was just about tools or whatever, but we won't know it. It bothers me that Maci is talking about it? But I feel like if she doesn't talk about it then there's probably nothing going on with her story. She doesn't have any drama?

I finally got to watch the episode. I haven't read all the comments on this thread so far so I'm sorry if I'm repeating others.

Amber & Matt - Now I don't expect significant others to have to change their eating when the other one is on a diet, but is it just me or was Matt being such a slime in the Steak 'n Shake scene?

I mean, gawd, how many times are you going to repeat to the person on a diet "I think I'm going to get a shake,"? He was trying to screw with her in a Tyler type of way but worst. That shows zero support in Amber trying to lose weight.

Also, I'm guilty of eating the canned French style green beans myself. I loved the taste of the canned style for some reason and my mom (and myself) cook(ed) fresh veggies.

Leah saying "can I have macaroni & cheese with a side of Mac 'n cheese" was cute as long as it's not an all the time meal. I hope these people aren't letting her eat like that other than a "once in a blue moon splurge."

Maci - Ryan's eyes looked freaky. He also reminded me of my 74 year old dad who keeps asking me the same question when I visit my parents house. Also, pretty sad that Bentley put more thought into Tmoneys gift and Ryan's mom got Ryan's Father's Day gift "from Bentley." That poor kid sees Taylor as more of his father figure & Taylors lazy - go figure.

Farrah - Take off those glasses. Debra get a new wardrobe your thighs are way too wide for those pants you choose. I'm not body shaming Debra but dress your body correctly.

Why did they order Sophia three meals? She wanted a sampler? I can understand not being able to decide on which out of three favorites to choose so whatevs.

C & T - Stfu Tyler. Quit bitching with your mom about Cate knowing this crap will get aired. If my husband bad mouthed me like this knowing it's being video taped it would be the last time. He knows how to hide crap from the cameras and make himself look good...but airs his wife's laundry to dry.

Poor Jen and Larry. I ❤️️Them.

Did anyone else notice a weird hose thing on the floor when the producer was talking to Ryan? I paused it, but couldn't figure out what it was.

It was just a foot pump for inflating small blow up toys. Nothing scandalous, unless he's using it to pump up his blow up sheep "girlfriend."

His eyes though, some really psycho looking stuff going on there. That picture of Manson upthread coupled with the reports of Rhine killing cats has me concerned, I really don't think its due to drug use.

Ok so I don't know if Amber has thryoid issues or not that would prevent her from losing weight. Anyways I think that she just wants to take the easy way out. I am about her size and I am loosing weight by not alot of sugar (I still have trouble with it :) ) and exercising. Plus I work full time and still have the time to cook a meal haha.

Amber did lose a lot of weight a few seasons ago--she was obsessed with krav maga or some other martial art and did it all the time, didn't she? Did I hallucinate this? (possible!) She lost a ton and was really slim. I don't know if she was a size zero but she was small. I don't think she has thyroid issues or any other medical problem; she's lazy and doesn't eat right, and takes no exercise, that's it.

She said it was krav maga, but in her book (I didn't read it, there was a synopsis on some gossip site) she admitted that it was major drugs.  She said that at the time she pushed Gary down the stairs she weighed 115 lbs.

Bentley is such a sweet kid, and it was so thoughtful of him to make the card for Taylor for Father's Day. I feel bad for Bentley because it is obvious he is very uncomfortable around Ryan. Who would blame him? Ryan was so rude and weird with Bentley, repeating the same questions and mocking his haircut. What a jerk! His kid was in a championship game and he couldn't be bothered to show up and show his support, even on Father's Day. Jen had to deliver Bentley to his couch and it was pretty apparent neither one wanted to be there.

I am starting to like Taylor more. I don't like his ugly shirts, but he seems to be a decent enough guy and dad. It sounds like he actually has a full-time job outside of the t-shirts and Teen Mom. He also seems to really care about Bentley and is very involved in his life, coaches his baseball team, etc. He puts WAY more time and effort into Bentley than Ryan does, that is for sure.

It actually was really sad. No hugs, nothing. Bentley actually moved away from him and opted to lie on the floor. It looked like when DJ was forced to play with George in Roseanne. DJ (Bentley) didn't want to be anywhere near George (Ryan), let alone interact with him. DJ was snippy, though, and Bentley just looked stone faced as he sat on the couch. SAD.

Ooooh interesting. So do we think that's what she actually had done? Instead of the "mommy makeover"? Do the timelines even match?

I'll just say this, the drink she had after coming out of the doctor's office said NutriMed Advanced Health Systems on it. I'll try to keep this short,  but during my mom's consult, her doc said the pre-op eval stage always consists of psych evals and diet change but there are two routes for diet change; shorter but harder or longer but easier. SbH - 6 weeks; initial meeting w/nutritionist & bi-weekly check-ins after that, assigned low calorie (LC, ~1200 cals) or very low calorie diet (VLCD ~800 cals) that you cook yourself, small healthy snacks only (literally like just a handful of almonds), keep a food diary. LbE - 12 weeks on one of their pre-packaged, medically supervised diets. You cook one healthy meal a day, everything else is a MR product, weekly check-in/meal pickup. There are a couple of different companies that make these meal replacements but the biggest one is Robard and they make NutriMed.

Now, it's totally possible to be put on one these diets without undergoing surgery afterwards, but they're specifically formulated to optimize surgery results - high protein, low sugar, less chance of dealing with a fatty liver, gets you used to the new portions you'll be eating. I originally thought she was in her last two weeks because of her mushy green beans but if she's on NutriMed she wasn't that far along and just overcooks her vegetables. Starting that protocol in July would put her on track for her recent "mommy makeover" to actually be bariatric surgery. At 5'4, she'd only have to be 175 lbs. to qualify and tbh, shady doctors will fudge it if you're not going through insurance anyway.

I'll co-sign this.  The measure for bariatric surgery is always changing, and if you have co-morbidities you can get it at a lower BMI. They have been favoring the gastric sleeve, which isn't as extreme as the RNY and can be offered to people with lower BMIs.

This information is a couple of years old, but if you have high blood pressure AND diabetes, you can usually be approved if you fall into the overweight/obese category. Also, a lot of people have sleep apnea and don't realize it, and that's a co-morbidity.

On the other side, having a documented history of addiction can count against you for surgery, because once bariatric surgery is done, a lot of people find secondary addictions like shopping or gambling or drinking.

All that to say...prior to the popularity of gastric bypass surgery, I also did a medically supervised liquid fast.  It's not cheap, but it works while you're doing it.  With any diet or weight loss procedure, you have to keep up the maintenance behavior, which can be really challenging.

I don't think Amber is big enough to be a good candidate for bariatric surgery. She's overweight, but not morbidly obese.

No but she would qualify for gastric banding surgery if she wants to pay out of her own pocket. I cannot begin to tell you how many pop up clinics we have in the Seattle area that advertise them targeting people who don't want to make the effort to try to lose it themselves. I am expecting a death or serious complication to result from one of these places very soon. I'd bet dollars to donuts that is what Amber is doing.

Don't people high on opioids tend to nod out, like we've seen Leah do? Maybe Ryan was straining to keep his eyes wide open to counteract the nodding-off effect from his pills. If he had started taking pain pills after his accident, maybe he got hooked. He's been doing the crazy eyes a lot the last few years.

To me, Larry's reaction indicates a problem with money and with lying, involving both Jen and Ryan. Maybe Ryan has secretly been mooching money via Jen, and Jen has not been fully honest with Larry about it, and Larry found out. Ryan may have been taking things to sell (maybe a nice set of tools). That happens a lot with druggies.

I feel for Larry. It's obvious he has been feeling hurt and resentment for many years, knowing Jen will always put Ryan (and now Bentley) before him. You can become very lonely in a marriage where you feel overlooked. Larry comes from a generation of men who believe they are supposed to be tough and strong and not have emotional needs, but they do, especially from their wives. He probably always dreamed of having a son he could feel proud of, and what he has gotten is a big whiny freeloader.

I feel for Jen too. I don't have kids, but I know women who are like drug addicts with their kids. They literally cannot say no. It's just not within them. They know it's bad and wrong, but they can't help it. I think Jen is like that with Ryan, and Ryan knows he can use this to his advantage.

I also feel very sorry for Bentley being dragged over to endure Ryan's criticisms and false interest. It broke my heart when Maci said Bentley cried about having to go over to Ryan's, CRIED after his championship game with his trophy. That should have been one of the happiest days of his life! He should have been celebrating with his team! My sympathy for Jen will evaporate if she uses Bentley as an excuse to see Ryan, and I fully support Maci for saying no. Ryan is poison, toxic, regardless of why or how, and I would not want my sweet little boy to be exposed to that. That is what parents are supposed to protect their children from.

Catelynn: you are an adult, you cannot be bored. When you aren't happy with what you are doing, it is up to you to change what you are doing. There's nothing to do around there? You have a daughter, are you serious? Quit self medicating (pot and food) and go to a real therapist for strategies to cope and (likely) medication. And it's ok to need medication to make yourself better, and you can work with your doctor to use less in the future, under their recommendation!

Maci: congrats on being boring, it is literally the best way to be on this show. You do and say plenty of stupid shit, but no one is going to look perfect under a microscope. Hopefully, for Bentley's sake, Ryan's issues are addressed. Maybe he's just that boring, but likely it's more, so the best thing you can do is protect Bentley from it while Ryan gets it together. Larry seemed drunk during his couch scene. I feel horrible for Jen, even if some of this was brought on by her coddling, but that doesn't make it any easier on her.

Farrah: you are insane and obviously have no idea how to run any business. If she opened a restaurant instead of re-branding an old yogurt place (girl, why did it take so long to open if the place already existed), she would be Amy from Amy's Baking Company. If you don't know what that is, google Kitchen Nightmares Amy's Baking Company then realize you're watching Farrah in another body.

Amber: I had a long rant about your horrible diet choices, especially after lamenting how hard and not long term cutting carbs is (which is ridiculous because it really is something most people should do, eating less sugary snacks and baked goods is not hard and should be done for long term maintenance, also sugar is a carb, it's not "carbs and sugar") and how there's no way a doctor or dietician (nutritionist? One of them is a real doctor) suggested this weird crash diet instead of just eating real food in normal portions, and not eating out so much  but the comments here guessing that this is a pre-bariatric surgery diet make so much more sense. "Mommy  make over." Yeah, sure. But even so, if this is a surgery thing or a crash diet, being around a partner and your child who are eating normally is a recipe for failure. How about you all eat better together, set a good example for Leah who will likely gain weight as she ages and plays less, since right now she has none, and get your overweight lump of a boyfriend to join in.

I don't have that much time right now, but just wanted to post a few things.

I nearly cried when Larry said all that he said to Jen and about what was going on. I could feel the hurt he was expressing. Poor man. Jen hasn't helped matters. Ryan cannot expect to ever grow up as long as he has Jen as an enabler in his life. The comment about wrenches just made me instantly believe there is a drug issue at hand. Being a moocher can garner major anger, but drugs is a whole other level. For Larry to say he doesn't want to ever see Ryan again, it has to be drugs. Larry may have thought all of this time it was just Ryan being a moocher, but upon discovering something about his tools, that may have been the thing that set him off. I bet Larry has been noticing money missing, other items missing, he may have thought they had a prowler on the property, he may have not wanted to put the blame on anyone and it wasn't until Larry caught her in lies and likely caught Ryan doing something.

Farrah - those poor employees. Get out while you can!!

Amber - you are chubby because you eat junk and lie around all damn day.

Cate - I just can't with you. You gotta help yourself for your child's sake. Clearly, she is not a priority to you at all.

When Amber opened up the can of green beans and dumped it into the pan, I could have sworn Leah said "Ewww, what is that?"

I'm not saying toddlerNordic eats the best foods (he hates vegetables) or never eats fast food but he's seen the basic vegetables. How does a seven year old not know what green beans are? Especially canned green beans.....since I doubt Gary is buying fresh green beans and all (no shade, I use canned green beans, too). That was so weird.

Why then is no one stating the obvious if in fact there is a medical issue or mental issue? No one has ever mentioned any health issues. Not even Maci. She is in the dark as to why Ryan is so distant from Bentley. Surely she would know because I would think Jen would have told her Ryan has mental issues. Why put your son on blast on national television and skirt around the issue? I would think Jen would be putting out there Ryan has medical issues rather than sitting there saying nothing as her spouse rambles off. Seeing as how Jen is Ryan's enabler, she would certainly be his defender to any sort of accusations. Instead, she sat there.  She obviously knows Larry speaks the truth. He called her out as a liar. If my spouse called me out as a liar, I'd be floored and demand an explanation. I would then be packing his shit. Larry went on to call out Ryan is a liar, a bum, and apparently a thief. Jen didn't defend Ryan in the least. That is not the kind of rambling I would expect to hear from a father who was upset with a mentally ill child. I would expect it ONLY TO EXPLAIN AWAY his behavior.

Bentley: Dad, will you go to my championship game?

Ryan: No.

Squishy green beans are so gross.  I like them crispy.

I actually like those french-cut green beans she was eating. I must have been really hungry as I watched her eat them last night because I even told myself I would fix some for myself today. Of course, I didn't.

I also enjoyed Bentley making that sign for Taylor. What a sweet kid.

I actually thought the camera was focusing on the fact that Maci was doing all the work.  I mean, Bentley could have stuck the letters on the board, right? Still, i love Bentley. He's a sweet kid. Hope he doesn't grow up to be like Ryan. After all, he's got Mimi to coddle him and Maci to overcompensate to make up for the fact that he has a crappy dad.

I agree. I think Ryan had legit TBI, Maci probably would have mentioned it. She might cut Ryan a lot more slack. The way people are reacting to him makes me think it's a drug issue.

Maybe his TBI is undiagnosed because everyone just assumes drugs.

Leah saying "can I have macaroni & cheese with a side of Mac 'n cheese" was cute as long as it's not an all the time meal.

Yes, i think its cute. Just like when my son orders mashed potatoes and french fries as his sides.  Or last week when he ordered spaghetti with a side of mac n cheese.

It sounded to me as though Ryan’s father finally had the straw the broke the camel’s back. I remember years ago posting on TWoP about Jen’s enabling and coddling of her baby boy. The father even said that he was number three once Bentley came along and he was fine with that, which is good but the implication was that Jen sided with Ryan over the years and dad got sick of it. Add to that a huge event and he’s done. I can’t blame him. Parents are supposed to be a team and Jen strikes me as the type that would sneak Ryan something he was not allowed to have per dad, or give in to him because she didn’t want her widdle boy to be upset. Well, there you go, Jen. This is what it has become. If the dad said that Jen can take her shit and leave, and we have never seen anything remotely close to this behavior from the him, that makes me think that what happened was authentic and huge because it was so out of character. I’m giving dad the benefit of the doubt here and pinning the Enabler tag on mom.

I don't buy the mental illness thing regarding Ryan. A "medical issue" is a savior on these shows and the perfect cover if one wants to keep the truth under wraps. He hit his head and hasn't been the same could shut lots of conversation down. Jen would have been all over protecting her baby boy's name if that were the case. He's yawned and been a jerk for the entire length of the show and shot cats? This is just in keeping with the asshole that he is. To me it's not a stretch to hear that he's a drug user and with no job, he's getting the money somewhere and maybe stealing from his parents with Jen covering as long as she could and then it all came out to the father and he blew a gasket is just the way it went down.

Cate looks awful. Tyler looks bloated and puffy. These people are totally toxic. Nova doesn’t have that excited happy look that kids have when playing with their parents.

Maci is boring, has no storyline and just sounds like a complete ass talking about Ryan not seeing Bentley. Surprise? This has been going on for 7 years.

Amber is Amber. Not much to say there. I will say that if my spouse (RIP babe) was struggling with weight issues and searching for a solution via nutritionist or whatever, I sure as hell would not pull into a fast food joint and buy a bag of fries to eat while he is trying to wean off that stuff.

I'm not sure that I've ever seen poor little Nova smile or giggle. She just waddles around with a blank look on her face and beds down with the dogs. It's really sad.

SAD.

All roads lead back to Roseanne. HEEEE ! Ryan did briefly nod. I hope Jen stayed to supervise. I wouldn't leave a houseplant with those wild eye thing going on. Didn't see him yawn this episode. Nor BLINK!

When Matt was talking about Amber's midnight raids of the fridge, did anyone else think she must be taking Ambien before bed? The fact that she would eat a bunch of stuff, not talk to him and then not remember it sounds like classic sleeping pill stories.

Yes, I absolutely thought she must be doing some Ambien-induced eating.

Amber had a mommy makeover about a week ago, and I've been following it pretty closely because I'm scheduled for the same procedure next month. As someone who ballooned, then had a baby, then lost weight, I can tell you that there are some things that diet and exercise just will not get rid of. Before the tummy tuck, they recommend you lose as much weight as possible for maximum skin removal. Most people opt for the HCG diet which consists of mostly protein and 500 calories a day. I enjoy preparing healthy meals, but in a punch, canned green beans are the bomb. They are proportioned and you can have like 8 cans throughout the day. It is an insane way of eating and that is why it's only done for 2 weeks. She is definitely not having bariatric surgery. She posted a selfie today and is wearing the post op bra. FYI mommy makeover is tummy tuck that includes rebuilding the abdominal muscles that are ruined from pregnancy, with breast implants. Sometimes they make the incision all the way around and lift the butt as well.

I don't blame her one bit. She has her whole life ahead of her and Lord knows she can afford it.  I can only hope it will give her the confidence to leave that filmy sleazeball.

I don't know if I did any compulsive eating when on Ambien (or maybe I don't remember!) but I hear that it's quite common so that sounds about right. When I would eat while on it, it would be such a fantastic experience, with ALL my senses heightened. Plus, things on my plate would move and swirl and turn into other things, so that was a bonus.

What I did do was go online and order things that I thought were cute with absolutely NO recollection of what I had done until the mailman arrived. Then it would take me a while to retrace my steps and recall when and how I ordered those things. I wonder what else Amber is doing that she doesn't remember. My favorite Ambien purchase is my ceramic Ratatouille utensil holder. It's Remy holding a gigantic chef's hat, which holds my spatulas and spoons, etc. It's not as "klassy" as anything that Amber and Matt have, I'm sure....

So Amber has decided she needs to lose weight. Because if she's fat and lays around on the couch all day and has some deadbeat loser wait on her hand and foot, that's just not as inspirational as when she's skinny and lays around on the couch all day and has some deadbeat loser wait on her hand and foot. Right. And I loved when Matt was all, "I don't care if she's 900lbs" - oh, we know you don't. Because you're leeching off of her "fame" and money. You don't give two figs about what she looks like. She could be a haggard old troll and you'd "love" her anyway.

Next step - to covertly see the "nutritional expert"/"diet specialist"/"weight loss doctor"/"i'm going to keep using quotes because I really doubt the authenticity of this person". Why meet off camera? HIPPA? Or were you selling some shit? Because it was kind of weird that Amber got back into the car with a drink in hand. And now she's to drink two of those a day, in lieu of meals. I don't know about anyone else, but when I think of a meal replacement drink, I think of something that looks more substantial. A smoothie or shake, something think. That was a pretty lightweight looking PINK drink. (I'm getting a real Plexus vibe here, if nobody knows where I'm going.) But I just don't get why she can't still have three meals a day, as long as they're healthy meals? Drinking your meals sounds like a dangerous way to jumpstart weight loss. Not a sustainable lifestyle change.

And even her one meal looked NASTY. Were those green beans from a can? Girl, I only use those for Thanksgiving green bean casserole. Has she never heard of FRESH veggies? Veggies don't have to be bland and nasty. If she keeps going like that, she won't make it a week. Especially not with Matt getting Steak and Shake. He's soooo supportive of her, while he slurps on his big shake.

I did enjoy Kristina and Leah giving Gary his Father's Day gifts. Who knew he was a coin collector!

I also enjoyed Bentley making that sign for Taylor. What a sweet kid. Notice he had no thoughts of making anything for Ryan. He didn't even seem like he wanted to SEE Ryan. He looked really depressed to be over there. Maybe if Ryan took an active interest in his life. Instead he kept asking him the same questions about his game over and over, like a senile old uncle.

Green bean casserole! French cut green beans! Represent!

Suddenly her "diet" makes more sense since it's pre- "I literally can't do anything myself and have to have anything done for me" surgery. God, TWENTY minutes on a treadmill, Amber, and you could probably eat SIX ounces of a protein that isn't bathed in ketchup or tarter sauce but with a little salt and pepper and fresh herbs. Then again, these girls would have to go through serious fast food detox to retrain their taste buds to tolerate, and then appreciate, fresh foods with herbs and seasonings. And seriously, Leah is headed down the same road and your albatross of a fiancee could stand to lose a few so why don't you ALL get off your asses and do something as a F-A-M-I-L-Y. Get fitbits. Have a bet going with the potheads Tyler and Catelynn that you will burn more calories/lose more weight. There are so many ways to be active nowadays (wii, treadmill, yoga, pilates, walking, light weights) that unless you're REALLY overloading on carbs and sugars at every meal and snack, you CAN lose weight. I won't even knock her for eating the green beans except it was hysterical that she was exhausted having to warm them up on the stove. And Amber? A GOOD mother stops her kid from ordering a side of macaroni WITH her macaroni. A GOOD mother makes sure her daughter gets TWO vegetables with a meal. None of that even enters your mind because you're so fucking concerned with yourself. You don't even realize you've passed on your bad habits to Leah and she will struggle with her weight eventually, but I guess that will be Gary's fault and ONLY his, right? She's such a dumb fuck.

I don't think Bentley was depressed at Ryan's, but he did take on more of his shier personality when he was at Ryan's house which I found really sad. And yes, those of you who pointed out that Larry wouldn't be as angry at Ryan if it were a brain injury have a point, BUT maybe he doesn't really believe Ryan's condition or thinks Ryan's taking advantage of a milder diagnosis.
