Not everything is hysterical, Tamron.

I think that just about sums up her problem.  I've said it before, but I think she's got some kind of nervous condition that causes her to laugh so much.  I don't know what the medical term is for it, but she's got it.

I think this show just brings out the worst in these hosts. Tamron is fine as a newsreader, but when they are doing the Today's Take she acts like a giggly idiot. Same with Hoda. She's a fine newsreader, but on the 4th hour she acts so exaggeratingly goofy, with the open mouth mugging, the Oh my GAWDD!'s, & the musical taste of a 13 yr old.

I like Hoda, a lot.  When she is with KLG she can get silly but usually is the one who reels things in.  I think she would be a good addition to the first 2 hours. It needs someone with a bigger personality than Matt and Willie to balance Al, who I don't like.

Dear Today Show,

When you feature Dr Oz as your "expert" on the upcoming Ebola Apocalypse, you completely destroy your reporting credibility. Not that you had any to start with.

I am surprised he didn't say the virus was a good way to lose weight!

And that drinking an antioxidant cocktail of barley wheat grass, mint leaves and cranberry juice is the only way to prevent catching Ebola.

No, no, silly girl he has supplements for that!

I really need to stop watching Jeff Rossen's segments before I give myself an aneurysm. Not that what the serviceman did was right, but why expose him when the real crime is the inequity in pay and benefits between single and married people in the service, and that there are people who are willing to help in this scam in exchange for heath benefits because the healthcare system in this country is broken? Rossen only reported under his breath that this soldier has a child he's trying to support, apparently on a single soldier's wages.

Your outrage was directed at the wrong party, Rossen.

When I finally realized that the Today Show is a halfway house for crazy people, I started enjoying it a lot more.  Jeff Rossen, Dr Oz, Paula Deen, Tamron Hall, Kathie Lee - to name just a few.  It's when you expect the show to be an actual news source that you run into trouble.

I agree, Sunnyheart. Otherwise I would be having an aneurysm like The Solution. I laugh at the goofiness of Tamron & hardly cringe at Dr Nancy's over plasticized face any more.

However, I still can't watch Jenna Wolfe. That grating voice, the giant mouth & lips that she accentuates with lots of gloss...but mostly that smug-ass attitude that she is the funniest person in the room.

Jenna is like Tigger in the Winnie the Pooh books.  She a little too bouncy. :-)  She overruns conversations and speaks too loudly.

I can't make jokes about it because this Ebola shit is serious.  I hope the cameraman is OK.  It's time for all of these news crews to leave those areas now anyway.  We don't need them stationed in western Africa to tell us how bad things are; we know.

I'm a lot more concerned about a little-understood respiratory virus that causes paralysis (Enterovirus D68) that's currently in 40 states.  I feel like the media is almost hysterical over Ebola coming to the US and wiping out civilization as we know it.  I agree it's serious and I think it's wise to keep focus and energy on helping West Africa but as long as Dr Oz is NBC's Ebola Specialist, I ain't worried.

So are Rosen's "Fer God's Sake, People! Can't You See What's Happening Here?!" specials a new daily segment on Today?  I don't remember them featuring his histrionics so often.

Oh sure, that's concerning as well.  However, that doesn't make the Ebola crisis any less serious; they both are.  In fact, today, there's one "possible" case in the DC area where I live, and the patient came from Nigeria.  So no, I'm not going to make light of it and joke about it (and I'm usually a laid-back kind of person).  I usually get on the media about the media frenzy when it comes to certain stories, but in this case I think it's warranted.  You think differently when it's close to home.

ETA:  There's also a second possible case in the DC area but they think it might be the flu.  We'll see.

Dear Nik Wallenda, most Chicagoans know that it is known as "the Windy City" because of the politicians. Wind speed averages only 10 mph. Of course our top- notch news team doesn't question it.

The real danger in doing this in Nov is that the cable might freeze up.

I am not from Chicago and know that!  There are many out there that insist is about wind speed.  I didn't watch this spot but I see TV people going along with a guest's error so as not to embarrass them.

Sheinelle joined the Weekend Today Show. The cast went out of their way to welcome her.

I like her.  She acted like an adult.  I wonder how long that will last before the producers ask her to giggle and cut up and act like a lunatic while reporting the news.

Dear Today Show,

In case you didn't know, Bill Murray is a very interesting guy who doesn't sit for interviews very often. Gosh, I can think of a million things I would love to ask him, but funny enough, none of those things have anything to do with George Clooney's wedding.   Also, no one cares that much about George Clooney's wedding. You people need to get over it.

Thanks for the shitty Bill Murray interview,

Sunnyheart

PS. The psychic prank was lame and it was obvious that Jenna and Natalie were not really scared. Give me a break.

Agree about the singing too - Christine McVie in particular was really off-key during Little Lies. I wasn't glued to the TV but happen to walk by and saw this GIGANTIC orange sign - seriously, it could have been a backdrop for the stage - and the person holding it was positioned where the camera couldn't show the stage without the viewers getting an eyeful of the sign PLUS they were across the street so the producers couldn't get them to take it down. I don't think I've ever seen a sign that big before in the crowd.  I gotta hand it to whoever did it - it was genius move.

Really enjoyed that Christian band Fleetwood Mac.  However, I think their giant orange "Seek Jesus Not Church...Death Ends in Hell" sign needs to be more noticeable.

Fleetwood Mac is now a Christian band? When did this happen?

No problem! If you watch closely, they have a "previously recorded" in the upper right hand corner of the screen most Friday's at the very beginning of the hour.

Oops, meant to say upper left hand corner.

Hopefully this will get her fired from NBC.  Not that anyone has taken her seriously for a long time, but now that she broke quarantine, they really can't use her as a medical expert.   And for such a dumbass reason - to pick up dinner.  If it was an emergency or to help save someone's life  - that is somewhat understandable.  But to get dinner?

She should DEFINITELY be fired from NBC. It's inexcusable. I can see where someone who is struggling to make a living might try to leave quarantine, but can't Nancy hire someone to fetch her dinner for her?

I wish NBC would fire her ass but, unfortunately, they won't and, like M. Darcy, I wouldn't be at all surprised if she got a promotion.

I also notice in her statement that she accepts no individual, personal responsibility, but just refers to "members of our group."  Then she goes on to say that "As a health professional I know that we have no symptoms and pose no risk to the public..." (I added the bold).  Really, bitch?  You know

I couldn't stand her before, but I loathe her now.

I think her lack of personal responsibility is what bothers me the most. She threw her team under the bus when she's the one at fault. Also, the business about knowing that she's fine and not a risk.  There are people out there who are saying not only should she be fired, but her medical license should be suspended. I'm all for not getting too worked up about Ebola in the US but I also realize that if someone is exposed, they need to keep their ass inside and away from other people.

Who is M Darcy and what is the story there?

M Darcy is one of our fine commenters posting above. Also late of TWoP ( I recognize the name!)

Why do they talk about the Voice so often? I know it's an NBC show, but I don't see them disecting any other weekly show like this, like the Biggest Loser.

Probably because they all watch that one and enjoy talking about it.

Thought it might be a good idea to start a general discussion thread for things that don't necessarily fit into one of the other categories.

I dislike the Orange Room (hence the thread title) and the general vapidity (is that a word?) of the features lately. Case in point - the really lame Guinness Book segments last week.

Vapidity is indeed a word. I looked it up in the dictionary.

I flipped in today right before 9 and saw Josh Elliott on the couch.  Yuck.   Sometimes I catch part of the 9am hour, and I really hope they don't put Elliott on there; if they do, I'm done for good with Today.    (Not that NBC cares if they lose me; but I watched the show from Bryant Gumbel to a couple of years ago, and it gives me the sads to cut it out entirely.)
