The 2016-2017 PTV Official NFL Football Pool!

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone and Welcome to the 2016-2017 NFL Football Pool!!

The pool shall be simple. Each week, I will post the list of the teams playing.

All you have to do is pick which team you think will win. That's it!

The deadline for the picks is basically right before the Thursday game (or first game of the week) airs. If you don't get that pick in, then you lose points for that game, but then just need to get your picks in before Sunday's games. All picks for Sunday must be posted before 5 Pm on Saturday; this is subject to change in weeks where games are scheduled on Saturday.

When the playoffs roll around, I'll post a playoff bracket. Everyone picks who they think will win and the points will go up for each subsequent round, until the SuperBowl itself.

Every week, I’ll also post the leader board, showing how each person is doing.

So what does the highest scoring final winner get in the end? Total Bragging rights, PTV Members bowing at your feet and a chance to get redemption against last years winner - @merylinkid.  Everyone else? A great competition that's a lot of fun for everyone!

Edited by MarkHB · Reason: Specified deadline for Sunday picked.

We were supposed to be bowing to merylinkid? Huh, go figure.

Going with my two favorite teams all year (Redskins/Bengals), and picking anybody in their division as losers, unless I can't get past it like this week.  Plus rooting for anybody who plays the Patriots.

HalcyonDays, like any other board member, is more than welcome to participate.  I can't promise any GIFs at the moment, but we'll see what happens in the future.

@jennifer6973, you neglected to pick Panthers-Broncos.

Aw heck, since you asked, let's start things off with a bang!

Yes you were.   And I take advice from Henry VIII so you know the consequences of failing to properly acknowledge my awesomeness (bloody miracle).

Happy Football season everyone! GOOD LUCK!!

WEEK 1 SCHEDULE:

Thursday, September 08, 2016
Carolina Panthers @ Denver Broncos

**Panthers may take this one- they're gonna want their redemption. Someone said that the Broncos could have a broom at QB & still beat most teams because their defense is that good. Not saying that Siemian & Lynch are that bad. This one could go either way.

Sunday, September 11, 2016
Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Atlanta Falcons
Buffalo Bills @ Baltimore Ravens
Chicago Bears @ Houston Texans
Green Bay Packers @ Jacksonville Jaguars
San Diego Chargers @ Kansas City Chiefs
Oakland Raiders @ New Orleans Saints
Cincinnati Bengals @ New York Jets
Cleveland Browns @ Philadelphia Eagles
Minnesota Vikings @ Tennessee Titans
Miami Dolphins @ Seattle Seahawks
New York Giants @ Dallas Cowboys
Detroit Lions @ Indianapolis Colts
New England Patriots @ Arizona Cardinals

Monday, September 12, 2016
Pittsburgh Steelers @ Washington Redskins  **Go Steelers!!
Los Angeles Rams @ San Francisco 49ers

Wasn't as excited about this season because of the dumb move the Steelers made in the offseason. Not to mention, losing a pretty good receiver for the whole season & losing a pretty good RB for 3 games over dumb ?. I feel really bad for Bridgewater- this was supposed to be his year. I just hope he can get as close to 100% as he can in his rehab. I kinda feel bad for Romo too. He just can't catch a break.

I still can't get used to seeing the LA Rams.

So is @HalcyonDays banished this year? Locked away in a closet, key hidden? Will he/ she be playing? With @MarkHB in charge does this mean no exploding firework gifs?  No dancing banana gifs? Or just different ones?

Unfortunately, I'm too exceptionally lazy this year. I know I won't have time to run the Football pool I came up with and ran for the last two years, and even more lazy to make the picks every week. Not that I ever did well in the first place. *grin*.

Good Luck to everyone in this years pool!! Everyone was - and is - such wonderful and fun and awesome participants - and you all really made the last two years of this pool just a great time to be had by all.

Good Luck to Everyone!! And remember:

Kick Some Ass, Take Some Names, Don't bet on the Cowboys (Romo's injured again....), You are all Awesome, and my overall prediction:

Kansas City Chiefs in the SuperBowl!!

Okay folks, here's your chance to kick my ass each and every week.   Last year was a total fluke.   Really it was.   Okay and an undying belief in Peyton Manning.   Since he retired that won't happen again.

Thursday, September 08, 2016
Carolina Panthers @ Denver Broncos   Panthers  because Trevor Siemans is the better choice than Sanchez and that is all you need to know about the Denver's offense this year.

Sunday, September 11, 2016
Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Atlanta Falcons  Falcons
Buffalo Bills @ Baltimore Ravens  Ravens
Chicago Bears @ Houston Texans   Bears
Green Bay Packers @ Jacksonville Jaguars  Packers
San Diego Chargers @ Kansas City Chiefs  Chiefs have the Chargers left town yet?
Oakland Raiders @ New Orleans Saints   Oh ugh, I hate picking this one.   Raiders
Cincinnati Bengals @ New York Jets  Bengals
Cleveland Browns @ Philadelphia Eagles   do I HAVE to pick?   okay fine,  Browns
Minnesota Vikings @ Tennessee Titans  Titans sorry Vikings, if Bridgewater were playing I would pick them in a heart beat.
Miami Dolphins @ Seattle Seahawks  Dolphins  yes they really have no choice but I can't stand Pete Caroll and who knows how well Wilson will play now that he is getting laid.
New York Giants @ Dallas Cowboys  Cowboys  In Dak we trust.   Cowboys just because
Detroit Lions @ Indianapolis Colts   COlts
New England Patriots @ Arizona Cardinals  Cardinals.   The only loss I predict for the Pats during the Brady suspension.

Monday, September 12, 2016
Pittsburgh Steelers @ Washington Redskins   Steelers
Los Angeles Rams @ San Francisco 49ers  Oh geez, Gabbert v. Case Keenum.   Rams   because Chip Kelly is not a genius.

Most of my picks are just because I don't trust the other team (either the coach...Buffalo, Washington, Dallas...and/or the QB...Broncos, Bears, Philly, Vikings, Pats, 49ers).

The only team I'd be shocked didn't win would be the Packers.

I entered this competition a couple of weeks late last year and I ended up finishing second to last in this pool. Now, that I am starting it on time, I hope I fare better this year, lol.

Here are my picks for Week 1:

Thursday, September 08, 2016
Carolina Panthers @ Denver Broncos-I'm really not sure what to expect from Trevor Siemian this season. I think that the Panthers will win this one.

Sunday, September 11, 2016
Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Atlanta Falcons
Buffalo Bills @ Baltimore Ravens
Chicago Bears @ Houston Texans
Green Bay Packers @ Jacksonville Jaguars
San Diego Chargers @ Kansas City Chiefs
Oakland Raiders @ New Orleans Saints
Cincinnati Bengals @ New York Jets
Cleveland Browns @ Philadelphia Eagles-I'm going to go with the Browns on this one. I hope that RGIII plays well and gets the Browns off to a positive start for the season.
Minnesota Vikings @ Tennessee Titans
Miami Dolphins @ Seattle Seahawks
New York Giants @ Dallas Cowboys- I hope that Dak plays well, but I am going to say that the Giants win this game.
Detroit Lions @ Indianapolis Colts
New England Patriots @ Arizona Cardinals

Monday, September 12, 2016
Pittsburgh Steelers @ Washington Redskins
Los Angeles Rams @ San Francisco 49ers

Best of luck to you all. Last season was fun, but I'm retired.

LOL best comment winner for week 1!

Runners up- mountainair for the Hunger Game wish upon us all
merylinkid for "the only loss I predict for the Pats during the Brady suspension" Good one!
and Marge Gunderson picking without her cats advice. Which is just heresy
Jx223 wanting the Browns to get off to a 'positive start' wins the blue banner award. Kudos to all!

BTW MarkHB I know the one game starts tonight which I'm good on, but believe me, I'm already thinking of changing my mind about the Sunday games, so when is cutoff before you lock down the picks?

We won and then we lost. Totally missed the time out call so I was celebrating. Everyone else in the room said, "no, don't worry they'll still make the kick!" Some terrible calls tonight (or lack there of). Cam got some pretty heafty hits thrown his way, one which should have been a penalty. On the bright side; if we are going to lose a game this season let's get it out of the way now.

I only caught the last 4 minutes or so of the game.  My two thoughts:

  1. That's one of the few times I've seen the "ice the kicker" stunt actually work, and
  2. From long, painful experience, pick against Denver at home at your own peril.

UPDATE: after Sunday, @DrSpaceman73 is leading the week with 11 correct picks and is guaranteed at least a share of the lead at the end of the week, 6 other posters are right behind with 10.  There were 5 "Upsets", meaning 5 teams won although most players here had picked the other team; the upset winners were the Broncos on Thursday, the Bucs, Raiders, Lions, and Patriots.  The Monday night picks favor the Steelers and Rams.

Week 1 Scenarios: If the 49ers win, DrSpaceman73 wins the week.  If the Niners lose and the Redskins win, then 8 people will tie at 11 wins, including @Popples who is currently the only player with 9 correct picks who has a shot at a piece of the lead.  If the Niners lose and the Steelers win, then 7 players will finish the week tied at 12.  I can't guarantee I'll come up with this info every week at this time :) .

At least 3 games came down to last second kicks.  Might have been 4 if the Cowboys WR would have got out of bounds, though would have been a long one.  Panthers Lose and Cardinals lose to NE on a missed kick, Colts lose because lions hit one.  As a fan, I was on the wrong end of all those games.

And I missed 2 of those 3 games in the pool.  And only got the Denver game right because I am in a different pool, thought Denver Carolina was a toss up and split the two in the two pools I am in.  I think I did the same with LA-SF as well.  Toss up, two bad teams.

Long season.  I'll take it so far.

Exactly.   It's a looooooong season.    Anything can happen.    The first week is tough because despite preseason games, no one knows what will happen (get out of bounds, get out of bound, get out of bounds) once the games actually start.
