I get Jess's insecurity that she doesn't add anything to the relationship, she doesn't.   What I don't get is why she thinks David will mind all of a sudden when he never has before.

I really sort of wish half the family would drown in the regatta, it is just that more of the members  like in the family are on the boat than off it.  Any chance Cheseapke shores could drown and the boat could come back and go, "oh..."?

Did anyone pick up watching again? I heard there are only 6 eps this season which can be a good thing because filler has been the name of the game in the past. Maybe it'll be more focused this season.

Maybe...

Got around to watching this today. Hallmark really should have marathoner the previous season before the premiere- I know I watched it all, but I seriously had no memory of Trace and Abby breaking up.

So I'll start with them. They're very boring. The actors are good and have good chemistry, but like, there's 0 chance they're not ending up together so everything else is filler and it's boring.

I actually like Kevin and Sarah but I have an inexplicable fondness for Brendan Penny, so that may be a factor. I thought they were cute this episode, and it also feels like finally something may happen to a character on this show- they can get married! Maybe have kids!

Bree is a weird character, to me. All that drama about her book last season resulted in like a 10 minute conversation with the family, and now everything is hunky dory and her parents are funding her new play? Huh? I also really don't remember what's going on with her and the guy who the play is about. Emilie Ullerup is not my favorite actress- it always feels to me like she's mugging for the cameras.

Connor...did he even have a plot? I really don't like his girlfriend. Is he wanting to change careers? It felt like he was barely there.

Jess and David surprisingly didn't annoy me and at least rebuilding the inn may take some time and give them actual plot. I don't understand in the previews why her parents won't help her? They'll fund Bree's play but can't help Jess?

This show feels like it has the potential to be more, but it's forced to be bland. I know that's basically the slogan of Hallmark at this point, but seriously, I think they should be taking more risks with their family dramas and keep the blandness for the movies (though a little branching out there wouldn't be unwelcome either). Oh well. I'm sure I'll watch the whole season anyway.

Is this the final season? Why is it shortened?

I was annoyed that Bree's book was no bid deal anymore.  I guess exploring painful family feelings and character growth isn't a thing on this show.

I have forgotten who Sarah is.  Is she a firefighter?  EMT?  She's not the military friend, is she?

Ahh, Chesapeake Shores. Beautiful as ever.

Boring as hell.

I’ll watch the entire season though, because I’m seriously under the spell of the cinematographic fairy dust Hallmark sprinkles over all its shows.

It was the same with Cedar Cove. I was grateful for its cancellation, because I just couldn’t stop watching. It was so gorgeous I wanted to move there, even though the storylines and dialogue were bland, stilted ,and boring.

I need an intervention. Or an exorcism. Not sure which.

I was annoyed by that too. It seemed like they set all a lot of drama up and then...nothing.

Sarah is a firefighter...I think.

I call  it "scenery porn"....and yeah, it's the best part of their shows.😉

Have it on the dvr- haven't a chance to watch it yet. (Still watching Autumn Reeser be a ship captain.)

Scenery porn is also what keeps me coming back.

So nobody is mad at Bree any more.

Abby and Chase are broken up, I forgot that happened.... did it happen?

Connor is still boring but even he knows it and is thinking of shaking up his law career.

Jess and David are going to completely screw over the Inn his parents bought for them to go build their inn together... which makes sense for the show, but makes less sense if you think about the bit where his parents bought them this place and they have employees and bookings and responsibilities and they are all, "Oh, yeah, not fun anymore".

And the brother whose name I can't remember is going to be adorable and marry a woman he's met a half a dozen times.   Or, at least, a woman I feel like I've met a half a dozen times.

And apparently nobody killed anybody or got killed in the Regatta, but I guess we won't know for sure until we see uncle... uncle.... uncle Gonzo Gates.

The show had a meta moment that seemed to poke fun at itself.  Bree was whining about some nonsense, as usual, and she said something along the lines of "all anyone here does is talk".

Yup.  I've said it myself... they talk, then they talk about talking, and they talk about why they haven't been talking, et cetera, ad nauseum.

Did I miss something or did the sisters just assume they are bridesmaids?

They said, "Gee, you don't have any sisters.  How about if we became your bridesmaids?"

And that irritated me because why wouldn't she have friends she could ask instead of these women she barely knows?

I was also irritated by Jess throughout this episode and last about the inn.  Entitled much?  I know Bree irritates a lot of people, but for me, Jess is #1 on the spoiled, entitled brat-o-meter.

Thanks, @izabella! I was pretty tired while watching, so I'm not surprised I missed something.

I figure the wedding spectacle drama will be the story arc for the season, with lots of assumptions and miscommunications about what is desired. It'll be like a Hallmark movie trope built into the tv show.

I get that Jess has an attachment to the inn - she actually was an adult and (sorta) made something for herself. (Yes, she had plenty of help and coddling and didn't do anywhere near as much as she thinks.) I was glad her Dad told her that wanting something bad enough isn't enough though.

This! They talk so much that they do not actually do anything. They say everything, but show very little. The stuff that I think would be more interesting to see seems to happen offscreen.

It irritated me as well for the same reason. So Sarah (Is that her name?) does not have any friends or other family members at all that could be her bridesmaids? I thought there was some comment where the idea of one of the men as a bridesmaid was nixed. That irritated me as well, even though I think it was suppose to come off as a joke, because I have seen women stand up for the groom at weddings and men for the bride.

Do you have to have special insurance to get covered for termites?  Sorta like special flood insurance?  I have no idea about coverage for bugs and termites.  Could it be possible that insurance wouldn’t cover her?  If it wasn’t in escrow, it wouldn’t surprise me if she DIDN’T PAY it.

Jess has always been the most annoying character to me.  Bree whines but at least she does stuff on her own.

Jess is so childlike, that I actually wonder about a man that would choose her over Bree. She has annoyed me since her first scene.

I wondered the same about the termite damage. Jess hadn’t owned the house for very long- wouldn’t that level of termite damage ( leading to the place being CONDEMNED) likely have been an issue before  she bought the place?

Also, I think I’m supposed to feel bad for  Megan. Didn’t she remove herself from her children’s lives as they were growing up? They’ve allowed her back into their lives, but they’re ADULTS, so it’s bound to be a different relationship than the one she’s trying to recreate.

Although, to be fair, the “overbearing mother”is practically a cliche when it comes to weddings; it’s just usually the mother of the bride.

If she bought it on impulse (who, Jess?) or at auction and didn't have a proper inspection done beforehand, she likely bought it "as is".   Always get an inspection before signing a purchase agreement.   #formerRealtor

I also get the impression that Trace didn’t know in the first episode of the season that he and Abby were broken up again? Does the guy never call from the road?  FaceTime people.  Their lack of communication is ridiculous considering all the talk that go on on the show

So I'm guessing that Megan will plan Kevin and Sarah the elaborate wedding of her dreams, but K&S will elope, so at the last minute Megan and Mick will get married instead rather than "waste" the wedding.  That is where we're going, right?

I liked Simon but I'm kind of glad he and Bree are over.  Showing up every couple episodes for witty banter does not a relationship make.

And speaking of relationships going kaput, I was hoping Connor and what's-her-name would break up, too.  Her terrible (IMO) hairdo detracts from the pretty scenery.

Jess and David continue to act more like they should be building a fort and planning their science fair project than buying a business and carrying on an adult relationship.

It's absolutely ridiculous that we're on the 4th season and Trace and Abby are still in will-they-won't-they land, but at least neither of their new potential love interests are too annoying.

Yeah this has been my suspicion since Megan started planning the whole wedding.

Not sorry to see Simon go, and I suspect that Danielle (Connor's girlfriend?) probably won't last the whole season either. Maybe next season those characters can have better love interests.

Trace and Abby are ridiculous. The show needs to put them together and keep them together. Find another source of drama for them, because we all know they're ending up together.

I think I would have preferred a story where Jess and David had to rebuild their inn rather than buying a new one. I'm not sure what the plot is for them now.

I don't understand why this show is so afraid of letting things happen. It's been on for 4 years. It's like they keep resetting everyone back to square 1 over and over. Even within the bland Hallmark formula, there's still at least room for some changes like marriage, babies, career changes.

I haven't seen anything either way. The lower episode order makes me think it could be, but it doesn't seem like they have much time left to wrap up all the plotlines. I guess Jess and David with their inn could be wrapped up, and Kevin and Sarah's marriage could be an end. But I think they currently have Bree and Connkr dangling and Trace/Abby are just starting to date other people. 3 episodes would be pretty rushed, but I guess it wouldn't shock me if they resolved everything quickly.

Link to comment

My guess is that next week Jess and David break up because they can’t decide on a “theme” for their inn.  A couple breaks up every episode so they’re next I guess.

Megan and Mick will probably reveal their relationship in the last episode to the whole family?

As for Abby and Trace...run Trace run!  There is seriously something wrong with her.  She is out of work, has all the time in the world, he’s given up his career for her “again.” And she can’t bother to have a conversation with him that lasts more than 2 minutes?

I wonder if the season is shorter because of Megan’s pregnancy?

Is it me or is Trace beginning to look a lot like Eddy Munster?

And Jess resembles a young Sissy Spacek

I just can't with the sappiness of this show anymore, but I can't leave until the end.  I'm all for siblings being really close, but not all piled-in-bed-eating-ice-cream-together close

I was annoyed by the mom (Megan?) being so upset over Kevin and Sarah eloping. Woman, you abandoned your family and weren't part of his life for years, until recently. He owes you nothing.

Glad Connor's awful girlfriend is gone. I can see why she wouldn't want to be part of the smothering clan he comes from, but she still needed to go. I can't think of anything redeeming about that character.

I liked Jess and David and thought they were funny. Their drama is silly, but at least they're entertaining and it did seem like a normal disagreement that business partners/spouses would have.

This episode just really left me feeling like this series could have been something really good, if they would actually develop any of the plots they set up with some depth. The scenery is pretty, the acting is good, even the plot arcs aren't terrible- but nothing ever happens and nothing is ever explored in depth. It's too bad.

So I just binged this show up to where we are now.  Why I'm still giving Hallmark shows a chance after the dumpster fire that is When Calls The Heart, I don't know, but, I needed some eye bleach after Chernobyl (which was fantastic, but...it's about Chernobyl).

Random thoughts:

  1. I live in Maryland.  The Chesapeake DOES NOT look like that.  The mountains in the background and the evergreens everywhere?  Hilariously inaccurate.
  2. Related to #1: people are most definitely not wearing sweaters in the summer.  You're sweating like crazy around here in July.  The humidity is off the charts.
  3. Also related to #1/#2: these people live in gigantic houses/inns right on the water and I think they own two planes.  To do that in this area you need to be really, really rich, and yet none of these people seem to work regular hours.  Family money I guess?
  4. Jess drives me nuts.  The mom also drives me nuts.  The grandma's pseudo-Irish accent is bizarre.
  5. Why does Connor look like he's 50?
  6. How many mugs does this family own?  Because I think pretty much every scene at home, they're all holding mugs.  We get it show, you're going for a cozy vibe.  Enough with the freaking mugs.
  7. Poor Trace, you're so cute (or at least, up until the current season...describing him as Eddie Munster is so on point), and you really don't have much to do except alternate between holding guitars and holding power tools.
  8. Abby is I think the only brunette on this show.  Literally everyone else is blonde and blue eyed.  Jess started out as a redhead but we can't have that.  Way to go with fighting that lack of diversity accusation Hallmark!
  9. Nothing. Ever. Happens.  Abby's current pickle about being suspended from her company I suspect will be resolved in about ten minutes either next episode, or the episode after.
  10. Speaking of which, nice shade on working moms there, Hallmark.  "Since getting suspended I've been spending so much time with my kids!"  Yikes.  Can't we just get one Hallmark professional woman who actually knows how to do work-life balance?  It's not always all or nothing, Hallmark.

...And, that'll do it.  I'm still watching, but I think I'm watching because this is unintentionally funny.

Thumbs up to your entire post dubstepford wife. I completely agree with all of it but I laughed when I saw the first episode thinking...did no one working on  this show ever see what the Chesapeake actually looks like??🙄 Mountains in every background?? The woman who got let go from her lawyer job (I don't know any names). I thought she got fired. Was she just suspended? She acted like it was just great that now she had all of this free time to be with her kids, help at the school, etc. Um, what about health insurance? What about no salary? I guess if she was just suspended, she would still have a salary and health insurance? Never any real world worries on these shows. I guess that is the point---unrealistic escapism.

Anyone else see the anvils dropping that grandma is a goner? Though on this show it wouldn't surprise me if she just has a health scare and is completely back to normal next season (if there is a next season).

Also am I the only one bugged that they never explained what Jess and David did about not having beds for their guests?! I mean they can work around not having a full kitchen or whatever, but how on earth did they explain not having mattresses to their guests?

So none of the Mayans who ran into the Swole Boys before told anyone else in any of the MC’s about them? And when they appeared  in the same territory there was no plan. Also, the Swole Boys are dumbasses.

Meanwhile, Angel and EZ get into a fight in front of Happy, and then have a heart to heart about it that he can hear? For a moment I really hoped it was a ploy to get Happy to say something. Should have known.

Happy should have lied and fingered anyone but the actual shot caller. It would have caused all sorts of issues for the brothers and he wouldn’t have been a snitch.

Heh, the T3 appears in Mayans!

And the analyst thinks lying to Galindo is a better idea than going to him with the truth? Ugh.

The IQ of the characters in this show is very low.

I forget, why is Bishop now in a suit and no patch and bike?

EDIT: What the heck is Chesapeake Shores and why am I here? Damn you, iPhone! Looking at some of these posts, could there be two shows more different? This is hilarious. Cheers.

Somehow Mom is going to paint full time. Apparently she doesn’t need money either. And why is Gran insisting that Megan ask Mick for help with the studio? Can’t she see her son is under a bit of stress of his own and doesn’t need more on his plate?

Aside from the fact that everything about Jess and David's cutesy-wootsy portrayal nauseates me, that scene where the doorbell rings and people just walk in, suitcase in hand and handing them a paper saying 'I"m here to check in' and just continue to file in.  In what B&B/hotel/motel world does that EVER happen?  Guests don't just waltz in - there's usually some kind of front desk (or front of house for B&B for which I've stayed at several) area where guests WAIT for someone to go through the check in process.  And WHERE did these people check in?  Online?  Telephone reservation?  If so, who took them or is managing the online activity?  I'll tell you whose NOT - Jess & David!  How can these two idiots NOT know that reservations were made BEFORE the inn was scheduled to open?  These two should not have the audacity of owning any type of business.  David is too 'aww, shucks go with the flow' and Jess is an absolute child.  They're better off working at Sallys as a line chef/waitress.  Okay - rant over.

Yeah - they overdo the cozy 'sitting on a plush couch or at the large table with sliders letting in the sunlight from the water while sipping coffee and dressed in tight jeans, ankle boots, sweater and dangly jewelry while pretending to be 'working' on a laptop' thing.  When I work from home, I'm in our office whose desk is littered with posts while still in my jammies, slippers and hair in a messy ponytail.

That was a season finale, huh? I was waiting for Grandma to keel over too. I guess that would have been too much happening in one episode (rolling my eyes here).

I would be totally ok with Trace leaving the show and Abby being with the teacher, so of course she and Trace randomly make out on the beach. Be together, don't be together, it's seriously not that hard you guys.

If Peter Benson would like to be Bree's new love interest, I'm on board with that! I like him.

So that was Sarah and Kevin's wedding party? Really? I know the show is low budget, but damn. No friends or coworkers or anything? Makes me wonder how they'll get out of having a huge wedding for Jess since she is not the type to want small and David's family is loaded.

Is Connor moving? I wasn't really clear on where the new job is.

Wondering how soon we'll hear if this was renewed or not. It's a silly show, but I'd still watch.

If it doesn't get renewed and that's the end, that would be *so* Hallmark.  Two people with very little in common other than the fact that they grew up together and dated as teens ending up together because it's *true love*.  And hey, I'm fine with that (that's what the Hallmark Channel is for), but it should at least make sense.  Abby has eclair guy (who is reliable, sweet, and insanely hot), she told Trace over and over again that she's tired of the roller coaster that he puts her on, and then simply because she saw him having coffee with another girl she feels the need to drop everything and make out with him?  And it all happens in the last 30 seconds with no build-up or reasoning or logic.  Yep, that sounds like the Hallmark Channel.

Renewal feels like it could go either way.  Pretty much everyone's storyline wrapped up...the parents, Jess, Bree's play, Sarah and Kevin, Connor's new job, and Abby is out of her job-related predicament AND she's magically back with Trace.  Everything is tied up with a neat little bow.  Then again, there is more they could do...weddings, maybe get Wes back and show more Trace/Wes angst (which I always thought they should do more of), Connor goes after what's-her-name following their break-up, and *gasp* maybe kill off Gran and show the family coming together in the aftermath.  There's probably another season's worth of material.

Yes it is typical Hallmark for sure! I think this finale was written with it in mind as an end in case it does not get renewed. They wrapped up everything in a little bow, and threw in the Abby/Trace reunion at the very end.

Rarely have I despised a fictional character as much as I do Jess.  She's the worst!  She really had to raid the family's spices instead of just going to the grocery store like a normal person?  Now poor Gran is probably going to have to make a trip to the store to restock!  And then Jess thinks that after 24 whole hours her problems stemming from opening the inn without the necessary license or permit or whatever should go away?!  The world should just revolve around her, I guess.  Ugh, the worst.

I feel so bad for David because he's cute and sweet and I wish they had paired him up with Bree (I thought they had nice chemistry for that hot second they seemed to have something going).  I have no interest in watching Bree with the new agent guy...I don't think he's cute or charming and I'm not sure Hallmark does either for how often he shows up in their movies as NOT the leading male love interest LOL.

Does Connor's dad even like him?  It doesn't seem like it, poor guy.

I can't believe that Megan's kids have all forgiven her for ditching them when they were younger.  That was crappy and I don't like her because of that!

I don't care about most of these people or their "problems" but I guess I watch for the nice scenery.  Sure don't watch for the plot because not much happens.

Sonofabiscuit - agree/love your whole post.  I've been over Jess' 'cutesy' behavior forever.  She's the WORST businesswoman and she's not a good girlfriend.

Yet again, I want all the men on this show to wash the ridiculous amount of product out of their hair.

I, too, liked Bri and David together initially (and like her hair up) and do NOT want her to get together with the agent/ AKA low rent Ed Holms.

I will also add - that it was at least the hottest kiss we've ever seen on Hallmark.  Not saying much but I could buy them together for the first time.
