formerlyfreedom August 18, 2016 Share August 18, 2016 Quote Hortense and Bertram's happiness turns out to be short-lived, as does Commodore and Chair's; Beatrice turns to religion when her bar fight with Lillian has deadly consequences; Blanche gives birth downstairs. Link to comment
Amethyst August 25, 2016 Share August 25, 2016 (edited) Pretty sure Hortense is alive, but it sucks that Bertram ended up being a tool. Should have known better, Hortense exists as a punching bag. Otherwise, an OK season finale. I wonder if Beth Dover (Blanche) is pregnant IRL because the birth had no real fanfare and they could have ditched the pregnancy plot altogether. Was spoiled on Lilian's "resurrection" in a promo (thanks Comedy Central), although it was funny to see her drunkenly singing with the bar patrons. The best part was Dodo getting that sweet revenge against the Commodore and Chair, although I feel like I missed something. Why did Dodo have Peepers sign the papers? And when did Chair start walking again? Also loved the corrupt cops. That whole conversation had me rolling. Still, this season was a mixed bag for me. Some great guests, but everything felt so crammed in. Half of the time, the supporting cast wasn't even there. Edited August 25, 2016 by Amethyst 2 Link to comment
DeLurker August 25, 2016 Share August 25, 2016 If Hortense comes back, I want one of the other Hortenses. I laughed way too long that losing a daughter was a bit worse than losing a kitty kat. 4 Link to comment
Linny August 25, 2016 Share August 25, 2016 This episode was a bit scattered, trying to pack too much in, but it was still really funny. "Is that a child?" "No, it's Blanche's baby." Oh, Blanche, I hope you enjoyed your seven minutes maternity leave. Of course Lillian could only be roused by the smell of cash. Beatrice was delightful in her rage against God. I love how dark they let her character be. So, definitely a new Hortense next season, yes? 4 Link to comment

I don't know when this was filmed but Beth Dover and her husband, Joe Lo Truglio, did haive a baby in the spring. Hortense was my favorite character in the pilot. I did like what Lauren Ash did with her too, although not as much as Artemis. Unfortunately, this actress didn't really work for me so I almost wouldn't mind if Hortense were actually dead. Unless they can bring her back with some life. I wonder if there will be another season. 2 Link to comment

thuganomics85 August 26, 2016 Share August 26, 2016 Dodo pulling one over the Commodore and Chair was brilliant. Especially having Peepers help out. Of course, she is totally in a relationship with the priest, so Peepers continues to have to look on from a far. At least he learned about masterbation episodes ago! Sure looks like Chair left the Commodore, but I hope this isn't it for her. Christina Hendricks is so great vamping it up. I thought there was going to be more payoff with Blanche giving birth, but it doesn't seem to be the case. Especially since it ended with Peepers telling her to see Chair, so I thought Chair was going to try and get her revenge (assuming she finally put the pieces together.) Of course it would be fresh money that brings Lillian back to life. Beatrice losing her shit on God was hilarious. So, that's how the term "ladies night" was made! Either Hortense is dead or she'll be back played by another actress, because I'm wondering if that's going to be the new gag now. Overall, I think I preferred the last season because this season didn't feel quit as tight storyline wise and it seems like the availability for a lot of the actors was even more limited (bummed we didn't get any Frederick/Jason Ritter for the finale.) But this is still one of the craziest, most unpredictable shows out there, so I'm glad it will be back next year. Can't wait to see what they think up of next. 1 Link to comment

I'm not a fan of the constant switching of Hortense's, but I wasn't a fan of this version. I doubt that Hortense is actually dead, though. It could go either way. At any rate, Lauren Ash was the best one portraying her, imo. Edited August 26, 2016 by Amethyst Link to comment
iMonrey August 26, 2016 Share August 26, 2016 Quote Overall, I think I preferred the last season because this season didn't feel quit as tight storyline wise and it seems like the availability for a lot of the actors was even more limited I agree the season felt uneven as a whole. The three-part finale was well written though. The return of Harriet Tubman was unnecessary though. The gag with that character was how she acted behind the scenes. Nothing will ever match the sight of Blanche gnawing through the umbilical cord. Ugh. I was confused about Peepers signing all the papers too. I vaguely remember he has American Indian roots and an American Indian name but I don't understand his involvement or connection with the transfer of funds to the Abbey. 1 Link to comment
Sarnia August 26, 2016 Share August 26, 2016 This season was indeed a bit "off". Key actors/characters were missing in too many episodes, Chair started walking again out of the blue, the part about Blanche's baby had no real purpose, and I don't understand either what is Peepers' role in the Commodore's bankrupcy. Is he now the real owner of all the properties? But on the whole this is a show that doesn't take itself seriously, does it brilliantly (for the most part) and is a perfect summer guilty pleasure. So I'm glad it will be returning next year. I'm not a fan of this season's Hortense, but it would be great fun to see the character return next season with a new actress. My favorite part was Peepers finding out the doctor was Canadian, and particularly his "vade retro satanas" face when the doctor said "about". I think Peepers is the hero of the show for me and I feel we didn't see that much of him this season. 2 Link to comment
