Am I the only one who actually thinks he looks better there than in most of his pictures? If I didn’t know he was so evil in his thoughts, I would think he’s just an average guy.

Aside from his beliefs, the facial hair turns me off. It is so uneven in length, almost like a comb over for his face. Without it, he is still dorky, but looks okay-ish.

This is interesting coming from a guy who married into a family that purported to be wholesome and good but hid a child molestor in their midst.  And married a woman who repeatedly said she wanted to be a missionary but actually behaves as though she wants to be home.

Feeling turned off by your family, Derick?

Someone needs to dust off that interpretive dance clip. That simply could not be unseen! Flailing spindly limbs and greasy manbun.

Yes!  If someone has a link to it please post it.  I've looked all over the internet for that and the toilet birth and can't find either one.

Cathy tweeted this to Derick......

My god, the stupidity and insanity on display in that Jerusalem Post article:

“Zion is a Christian oil drilling company. In 1983, during a visit to Israel, Zion founder and chairman John Brown became inspired to find oil and gas in Israel. During the next 17 years he made numerous trips to Israel, and finally in April 2000 he received the award of a small onshore petroleum license from the Israeli government. The company uses a map of the 12 ancient tribes of Israel and the biblical assertion - “the foot of Asher to be dipped in oil on the head of Joseph” - as an unlikely guide to help it decide where to drill. But while Zion’s vision is biblically inspired, the actions taken by the Zion management as it actively explores for oil and gas in Israel are based on modern science and good business practice.

Its CEO said however that there was a still long way to go to see if the oil could be successfully extracted.

“I am ecstatic to see clear evidence of hydrocarbons (oil and gas) in the deeper portion of our Megiddo-Jezreel #1 well – a project that we have been working on for years,” Zion CEO Victor G. Carrillo said. “However, at this time we cannot comment on the commerciality or ability to successfully produce the well. We ask that our shareholders continue to pray for safe and successful drilling, logging, and testing operations, and for God’s wisdom for management as we make key decisions in the following days and weeks.”

On Saturday, conservative evangelical Christian author David Jeremiah gave a lecture about oil in prophecy and the redistribution of wealth through oil, saying that this resource will be the one that decides the fate of End Times.

“The Bible says that God is going to ‘put a hook in the jaws of the nations’ (Ezekiel 38:4) and I believe that hook is going to be the oil. Oil in the Middle East will be like a magnet drawing all the nations to that focal point for the final war that will take place on this earth,” he said.

“I remember reading not long ago when Golda Meir was in office, she made the comment that she was very angry with Moses. She said, ‘Moses led us throughout the wilderness for 40 years and plopped us down in the Middle East in the only place there is no oil!’

“Some people are saying that maybe that’s not true. Perhaps oil is in Israel and the Zion Oil & Gas company is prospecting right now using the Bible to try and find the places in the Holy Land where oil might be deposited,” he said.“

34 years to possibly find oil in a tiny country is pretty pathetic, and I doubt it will make a dent in the oil market and cause the end of the world.

Cathy's liked a bunch of posts from a group called Educating Liberals. They've gone on and on about how guns are not the issue in school shootings, it's a mental health issue. Cathy fails to realize that her party has slashed the budgets to help these people and that guns and unstable people do not mix.

For someone with a Masters degree, she's awfully closed-minded and, dare I say, unable to think critically since Jesus cured her cancer.

I was just thinking. Yes, I know it is dangerous, but please stay with me. I just realize my husband's kidney specialist is a woman, my physician assistant is a woman, and our eye doctor is a woman. Derick needs to realize how much women have contribute to society as a whole, and I do not mean looking at their headship like he is the greatest thing since sliced bread, and having babies right and left. Where would we be at if women did not go out and try to help others. Jesus gave these amazing women skills, and for Derick to call them out on it because *gasp* they went out and actually decided to help others is a slap in the face to all women. Maybe he needs to find a female medical specialist who could get his head out of his ass. Of course, it would take a miracle.

THIS. Almost every SAHM I personally know might say she's staying at home because she can't leave her babies or wants to be home with them, etc. But in reality, they cannot afford the outrageous price of childcare if they did work, as almost all (or perhaps all/more than all) would go to childcare.

Source: I am an (older) millenial. Hubby & I have two toddlers. We pay more in childcare than we do for our mortgage. It takes 90% of my monthly take-home pay to cover daycare and my mortgage. Hubby's job pays insurance, car note, utilities, etc.  I'm not making tons of money by any means and it's always very tight at our house because of the daycare costs. I am very lucky that I am able to work (ie: my pay more than covers daycare).  Many of my college-educated friends  who have kids haven't been as lucky due to the economy (plus some of my friends who didn't go to college haven't been able to find jobs that pay what they'd need for daycare).  Add in that men generally make more money than women, and it's obvious who usually ends up staying home in a two-parent hetero family.  Most of the millenial SAHMs I know aren't actually doing it by choice, even if they won't tell outsiders that.
I'll preface this by saying I do not want any more kids - two is perfect for me.  But even if I did, we COULD NOT have another child because of daycare costs. We could not afford to pay for three children in daycare. Almost every millenial, middle class couple I know plans how many kids they will have based on daycare costs...because the Lord only provides free/affordable childcare for middle class families in heathen, atheist places like the Scandinavian countries and I live in the Christian-majority, family-values-centered US.

I gotta give you parents a lot of props/high fives/kudos/booze :).  I have zero kids, just a husband and 3 cats.  I am BUSY!  No human lives depending on me who also have their own needs/schedules/etc.  I have no idea how you do it.  None.  I am in awe.

It makes me laugh.  I must not love my husband because he has never been on my lock screen.  Its always one of my kitties.  I am going to look for a silver lining here.  At least 2 of the most obnoxious people have found each other so it is pleasing to me that they are both off the market so they cannot inflict their nuttiness on someone else.

I don't think he is lying in the sense that he is deliberately trying to deceive the public. He might believe that for all accounts Jill is a midwife. The problem is that he may not know what is and isn't legit since he himself doesn't have a midwife (midhusband?) background. He hasn't done the research. It is like if I tried to pass myself off as a licensed psychologist but I went to some unaccredited institution which claimed once I passed their final exam I would be licensed. If I believed the institution without doing the research, I may legitimately believe that I was a licensed psychologist once I took their final.

What is Jill talking about 'last month' in that interpretive dance? That was back when they were in Central America and Derick had that mustache which made him look like a 40 year old Algebra teacher. She's a bit confused about the timeline in her own life. Poor girl.

Oops, sorry about that video. Someone posted it here referring to it ...my bad.

Distractions: Annoying or Deadly?

One of the most important things my teachers in high school always told me was to stick to the point and to build everything else around that point, whether it be supporting details, examples, or something else.  I’ve been wanting to get more into blogging, and one thing I’ve been thinking about a lot lately is the Christian life.  I want to address Christians as well as skeptics.  Oh yes, back to the point!  I think it’s important to understand what’s really important to the Christian life so that we can economically steward what’s entrusted to us… time, money, energy, resources, relationships, etc.… We have a limited amount of all of these, and it’s important that we don’t let our time on Earth slip away into eternity while constantly chasing things that do not matter, having never focused on the main thing.

As Christians, we ought to do our best to view everything through the lens of the Bible.  No apologies there. I am not against reason, and I am a huge proponent of independent thinking. However, I also try to be honest with myself, and I can’t deny what I’ve experienced.

I think it’s obvious that the Bible was written by people a long time ago in a culture very far removed from our own.  To a skeptic, this almost sounds like an introduction to Star Wars, but the principle message of the Bible remains true.  It speaks to all aspects of life that humanity has been wrestling with from the beginning.  It’s these timeless truths that transcend time, place, and culture.

One of the best pieces of advice I got in preparing to depart for South Asia for 2 years was that “different doesn’t necessarily mean wrong; different could just mean different”. When something seems strange, I try to ask myself, “Do I think this is strange just because I haven’t experienced it before, or is it warned against in the Bible?” This is why it is so important as Christians, that we make judgements based on the Bible, not our own biases.  Obviously, we are going to fail at this because we don’t live in a perfect world yet.  It’s true— I’m a white, male, millennial, American, living in the 21st century; no apologies there either.  I don’t have any control over any of these aspects of my identity; it’s just the way God made me.  I do recognize, however, that there are aspects of my identity that affect the way I view the world.

The truth is that everyone is going to have a slightly different view than others around them. If we can do our best to remove our natural biases when we view the world, we will naturally be more unified as a country and as the human race.  As Christians, this means that whoever we are, one thing is certain – that we let the truth of holy Scripture, not our biases, be our primary influence in all matters. Our goal as Christians is to be more like Jesus Christ and less like ourselves.  This doesn’t mean that we completely abandon who we are, but we now employ all that God has given us, including everything that makes us unique, for our God-given purpose, to love God and love people.

Or in about 20 or so other states, from what I understand.

Cliffs Notes: unemployed man rambles until he thinks he's said something.

I don't care so much about why Jill is or us to certified. I care about why she's not practicing. She did all that training for nothing. Just like Derick. All degree, little experience.

After two botched homebirths of her own, Jill isn't exactly the poster child of a trustworthy midwife.  Even if she had a current license, who would want to hire her?

I would guess Jill’s certification would require renewal. I wonder what the requirements of recertification are, and how often it is done.

http://www.amcbmidwife.org/certificate-maintenance-program/continuing-education-policy

The primary purpose of the CMP is to ensure certified nurse-midwives (CNM) and certified midwives (CM) maintain the highest level of knowledge in all areas of midwifery practice throughout their careers. This goal is met through two certificate maintenance options, both of which require up-to-date evidence-based knowledge of current practice in obstetrics, gynecology, newborn, and primary care.

Option 1 requires CNM/CMs to complete three modules over a 5 year period and submit proof of 20 hours of relevant continuing education.  Each module contains current evidence-based articles and the full scope of midwifery practice is sufficiently covered within the 3 existing modules.  These articles are updated every 3 years to ensure current information is included.  Each module also requires an attestation that the articles were read and completion of a post-test that assesses key points in each of the articles.

The required education hours can be completed through a variety of options that include (but are not limited to) attending a conference, publishing an article, or precepting midwifery students. All of the options require proof of attendance or validation/verification. Attendance at a relevant educational conference enhances knowledge thorough review of current practice updates and management strategies.  The other options all require a CNM/CM to be up-to-date on specific areas of practice and are subject to fairly rigorous outside standards for selection and/or participation.

Option 2 allows a CNM/CM to retake the certification exam as another means to demonstrate continued competence in midwifery practice. The creation of the certification exam undergoes a rigorous process that is constantly updated to include current evidence-based knowledge, skills, and abilities. In order to successfully pass this exam, a CNM/CM would need to be up-to-date on current midwifery knowledge and practice guidelines.

Jill is neither a CNM or a CM. Those required a lot more education and oversight than the CPM route that Jill took.

Does that mean that it would be illegal for Jill to attend a birth or even see a patient?

I'm not sure what it means, and this is a guess. She might be allowed to attend a birth as some sort of emotional support for a patient (after all friends and family are often there). I think she would need a professional supervising the birth, unless it were some sort on the side-of-the-highway birth.

I don’t know why people keep saying Jill botched her own births

i know with each of my labours I wasn’t able to make decisions for myself or my baby,

that’s why I had my husband/ family with me

I was flat out trying to manage the pain

I remember being asked if I wanted to change position and it took all my energy to say I don’t care

I’m in no way a wuss and managed my births with no pain relief but I certainly wasn’t capable of ‘managing’ my labours

The above is in no way an approval of Jill, Derick, or any Duggar and their ways merely wondering why there is an assumption that Jill was in any way able to manage her own birth
