I was looking forward to Josh getting charged with some sort of financial or real estate or tax crimes and then involving  a bunch of other Duggers, or JB and M at the very least.  I could then enjoy the schadenfreude of watching it all play out and all or some of them going down hard.

It's a federal crime so the same all over the USA. Per the press release, the penalty for each count is a sentence of up to 20 years in prison and a fine up to $250,000.

I hope so. If Josh goes to "live" on one of the other properties, I have no doubt that JB and J'chelle would welcome him back to the TTH any time he wanted to drop by, and Anna would absolutely let him spend as much time at the warehouse as he wanted.

They all see this as a Jesus issue with Josh letting "Satan build a fortress in his heart," and nothing more. What he needs is more family, and more praying, and more oversight, not prison.

That doesn't necessarily mean he's headed for a trial - he can always change the plea later as part of a plea bargain.

I personally know someone - a "pillar of the community" - in Texas who was charged for child porn.  Arrested in August, indicted in September, and still in Federal custody awaiting trial.

Having been sexually abused as a child, I have NO sympathy for these people.  They should throw them into solitary cells in a dungeon with no natural light, with moldy bread and brackish water.  For life.

I know on my state they are harsh on this. I had a friend who had a husband caught with this. 5 years PER CHARGE. Not debatable. He even was charged with RECEIVING it. If he received those files he is busted! This guy pled guilty and spent ten years in prison. He was released, registered as a sex offender. Can’t be anywhere near a school, kids, etc.

It's also possible they found evidence of more than one type of crime on that computer, and they've just started with the one that keeps him in closest custody and best protects others.

It is virtually impossible to inadvertently download images of this nature.  Regular adult porn, yes, these images are only available on the dark web.  You have to know about this type of shit.  I could see him claim that he was using a shared computer at the car lot, but even then that's a stretch and would also rope in any other car lot employee.

Yes.  There have been cases of people caught with images of 17-year-olds that they thought were of legal age. But the whole 12-year-old disclaimer pretty much blows out any argument that this could be accidental.

The feds don’t play around with bail conditions, though. If Josh is released, he’s either going to be on an ankle monitor that will track his location or have a 24-hour third-party custodian to monitor his movements. And keep in mind that this case will get serious press attention and all eyes will be on the Duggars. If he violates his conditions someone will inform the Feds. They’ll revoke his bail (bye-bye JB’s money), he’ll go back to jail and His third-party custodian could then face charges for not monitoring him appropriately. 
 

CPS should be monitoring things too, and if Anna sneaks the kids in to see him or let’s him come to the house those kids will be removed from her custody. They won’t be placed with JB and Michelle, either — the best she could hope for is that they’d go to the Kellers or one of Josh’s siblings, who I damn well hope would keep him away so they don’t lose their own kids,

He's been arrested by the feds - so it will be whatever the federal penalties are for it... and they are severe. Not sure the specifics but it's not insignificant.
