Anna doesn't want to leave Josh. 

She wants her "normal" marriage back.  She wants her family intact. She wants Josh to get well so they can be together. Anna loves him.   

I think she feels this way too and I think she really likes being part of the Duggar circus. But I just don't see how she'll ever be able to truly trust Josh again and when the time comes to be intimate with him, I wonder if she'll now have difficulty with it (I doubt she had any problems with it before). Her self-esteem and confidence in herself as his lover has got to have been devastated, and like I said, how can she trust what he's thinking and feeling?

The funniest thing about the Daily Mail photos is this caption:  "Despite her family's troubles, Michelle Duggar (right) kept a smile on her face to attend her niece's wedding".  How often have we seen Michelle without a smile on her face?  She would smile through a nuclear holocaust.

As for poor Anna...it can take a long time for the denial phase to be over, especially since she's been trained in it rigorously her entire life.

I think it's a hard decision whether you stay or go. Right now, she is praying that Josh changes. So, she will wait the 6 months and welcome him home, believing that her prayers have been answered.

When he cheats again, THAT'S when she might walk...when she realizes that he hasn't changed.

I wonder how much of that she picked up on and what she suspected/knew he was doing. Due to her naivete and/or denial, she may have believed that he just looked at porn online a couple of times or went to an R-rated movie or something. She still might not understand the extent of what he was into. I wonder whether she's read/watched the media reports, particularly the account of the prostitute who says she had sex with him on two occasions.

Well, that's the Dullard's church and the Duggars haven't frequented it in the past -- only went there this past week because the Dullards were going to show up on the altar, I think. And that guy scheduled and announced his sex series as a fall membership drive kickoff for these weeks months ago. So it's not like his Sunday subjects are surprising anybody or were created for the purpose of lecturing Josh or Anna.

 

There's no real reason why the Duggars had to show up at that church this past Sunday -- and I don't think there's any evidence that they attended any of the earlier sermons in the series -- and they certainly didn't have to drag Anna and she didn't have to go. I don't see why ministers who don't have the Duggars in their congregation have to censor what they talk about or alter long-made plans on the chance that the Duggs will drop by dragging their daughter-in-law. Hundreds of other people who actually belong to the church may have actually wanted to hear the sermon.

 

Anna, JB and Michelle are adults attending a long-ago-announced sermon on a topic they may find sensitive. In my opinion, they're responsible if they have a problem with it. Nobody put guns to their heads to force them to attend a church they're not members of. I think the minister would be a jerk to cancel a sermon series he announced to a whole congregation to potentially save the tender feelings of some random adult non-member who might possibly show up.

Do you think she knows anything about reproductive health besides how to get pregnant? I would assume that she never had sex ed where she learned about how to protect oneself from STDs, what puts one at risk for an STD, etc. I doubt that Michelle has pulled her aside to advise her to get herself tested. I wonder whether she and Josh even had an honest discussion about all of this after the shit hit the fan. Would she even know to ask him whether he used condoms or be savvy enough to get herself tested regardless of how he answered that question?

I'd say very little. Fundies ARE obsessed with STD's, but conflate them with impurity. In that mindset, Anna, having been a good, "pure" girl, can't get them. I have NO clue what they think about cheating husbands, and whether they even think about him bringing STDs to the Marriage Bed.

I understand what you are saying and I don't necessarily disagree. But my point was that it's enormously sad if Anna loves the Duggars family so much that it comes into play in her decision making. They don't give a crap about her as a person. So it's just another uneven relationship. Anna is devastated by Josh who probably cares about her but I don't think the affect this is having on his relationship with Anna is crushing to him. It's the same problem Duggar Mom and Dad. They have no real feelings and compassion for her.

As far as Anna not putting her kids first, I think it's pretty unfair to say she isn't doing that just because she hasn't filed for divorce yet. When exactly what she supposed to think clearly about that? When she heard about that molestation (and yes - I think it was the first she was really told what happened) and she was 8 month pregnant? Or when she was 5 weeks post partum after just having uprooted her family from DC to head back to Arkansas. People do stay with their spouses after cheating. It's not bad parenting to at least think through divorce before proceeding. Plus she has time because Josh is gone so she isn't dealing with him everyday. I am under no delusions that she will leave him. She definitely doesn't have support around her to give her the confidence to do that. I am just not going to jump on the 'she's a sappy pushover who now deserves what she gets' because she hasn't filed yet.

Anna doesn't have to divorce Josh. But she needs to get away and figure out her options. If she wants to stay with Josh that's her choice but it's time to get out of this f list celebrity status and put her kids first. Get some real therapy. If Josh continues his behavior and she doesn't really care what he does then that's also her choice. But right now her kids need to come first. She should start focusing on them and not Josh. She has plenty of support to help her.

I can believe it.  My ex was like that.  And maybe this is Josh's way of getting out of the marriage.

And many marriages have survived some awful sitatuations. When I was younger, I said if any man cheats on me, his shit is out the door. Life has a funny way of changing your mind...espcially when there are kids involved. Many women stay with cheaters for all sorts of reasons that we don't understand unless we have walked in their shoes. I have two friends dealing with this exact thing and both chose to stay. The cheater is a jerk and the women know it...but the kids are well provided for...custody battles and visitation rights can get very ugly, very fast. Children get used as a weapon in a bitter divorce. Being a single mother is tough. There are many things Anna has to consider. The first one is that she loved Josh very much and always has.

I wish she would get real therapy. Anna lives in fantasy land. She did everything right but look what happened. Her fantasy isn't realistic at all. A spouse cheating on you hurts like hell. My friend had a cheating spouse and it wasn't easy to just get over. She had a hard time just ending their marriage. But therapy both individual and couples were beneficial. Josh isn't going to change with pray. Josh has to change on his own and needs serious professional help. I hope he's smart enough to use protection.
