Jessa, Ben and Their Brood: Making a (Diaper) Mountain out of a Mold House

Message added by Scarlett45

The Duggars post about politics on social media frequently, but these social media posts are not an invitation to discuss politics here in this forum. This rule extends to Duggar adjacent families, friends, associates etc. Such discussions are a violation of the Politics Policy.

I understand with recent current events there may be a desire to discuss certain social media postings of those in the Duggar realm as they relate to politics- this is not the place for those discussions. If you believe someone has violated forum rules, report them, do not respond or engage.

The last couple of posts were on Ben's parents' account.

Has Jessa given up with sharing her parenting, decorating, cleaning and cooking advice? No more shilling?

I was just about to dust the hammock and beach ball in my living room and I'm unsure if I should. Maybe I should just lay in the hammock and toss the beach ball? Or should I clean them? The stress is killing me.

My mom used to nanny for a little boy who looked exactly  like Gizmo (I think that was his name). Poor kid died in his 20s. I never found out from what.

I think Ivy looks like Jessa.

Lulz, I'm glad someone said it before I did. I don't really think Ivy is all that cute. Can I sit with you on the bus to hell?

Gizmo is a mogwai. You only get gremlins if you get him wet and feed the resulting creatures after midnight.

I do see the resemblance to Ivy, but in a good way.

Well, as Henry did, babies change a lot in the beginning.  She looks happy and healthy and well fed.  I know the odds are against her having a "real" life, but at this point, all she cares about is being fed, changed and loved.  I think she has that.  She looks cute enough.  I think if we can see ourselves somehow in a baby, that makes them cuter.  I think my grands were the cutest babies ever but I saw my son, his wife, etc. in them which added to the cute factor.  But, really, they were beautiful babies.

Ivy will probably turn out pretty; after all, Henry looked like 10 miles of bad road as a baby, but now he's just the cutest thing (and I don't even like kids!).  It will be interesting several years down the road to see if Ivy winds up sister-momming her siblings.  I hope not, but figure she will.

It's probably an instinctive thing for animals to prefer young which are obviously their own genetic output.

I think my kids were (well, still are) very attractive, but my oldest doesn't particularly resemble either me or Mr. Jyn (or even the milkman...) My daughter does look like both of us, but it's such an even mixture that none of her features are when you might call a carbon copy. My younger son, however, has eyes so much like my dad and one of my uncles that it's literally startling. His mouth is also very, very much like a number of people's on that side of the family. Whether he was the "cutest" of my kids on any objective level, I couldn't tell you, but I know that especially when he was a toddler and those features were more prominent, there was something about his face that made my heart swell just that little extra amount.

Yes- we are genetically hard wired to prefer faces that resemble those we love. (Even if they aren’t genetically related to us). That’s why you can spot the face of someone you love right away in a large crowd.

I think Ivy is a cute baby, I like her eyes. I also think Gizmo was a cute gremlin so I may be bias.

Absolutely true.  There have also been studies where people were asked to identify the parents of newborns when shown photos.  In general, people were much more accurate in matching babies to their fathers than their mothers which implies that newborns tend to look more like their daddy than mommy.  The theory behind this is that a mother always knows she is the child's mother but a man cannot be certain he is the father of his partner's child. At least not before the advent of paternity testing. Therefore, it is genetically advantageous for a baby to look more like daddy so the father will bond with the child and presumably be present and supportive which ultimately is going to make the child's chances for surviving and thriving better.

I think Ivy is cute, but I am generally a fan of babies so probably my judgement is suspect.  Babies were my business back in the day after all.

I think Ivy's cute. I am not really a baby person--I like kids who are older and can enunciate their words and, thus, don't scare the bejesus out of me because I don't know what they want LOL--but I think most babies look kinda like martians, and it is part of their charm. 🙂

I thought Gizmo was cute too.  As someone else stated, Ivy has grown up Jessa’s face which is a little jarring since she’s only 1-2 months old.

Joy’s son is growing into his looks.  I thought he was very akward looking as a baby.  He was so scrawny.

The Olsen twins were funny looking babies.  They grew up to be very pretty girls, then kinda regressed again in adulthood IMO.

Yeah, the background beats are basically the same. So they will flow together. It depends on how plagiarism in music gets defined -- i

f using the same (pretty commonly used) beats and one seldom-repeated melodic phrase, then they're similar enough........

There's a big big debate about that these days! I write some music and have a bunch of musician friends, so I'm biased in the direction of -- There has to be MORE than just that for it to be plagiarism, since there are only so many beats out there to use! And if everybody's constantly suing over that,  a whole lot of creativity will get needlessly snuffed out...But obviously this court came to the other decision!

And at least he sued people who can well afford to pay him a few mill (not that I think that was an accident!).

Well, ironically as is the case with so many plagiarism lawsuits, isn't an entire basis point behind said judgments that if you wanted to "borrow" said riff legitimately, all you have to do is (1) sample the song; (2), say in the credits that you sampled said song; and the crux of the matter, (3), pay royalties for said songs as if the sampled entity was a co-writer upon the song?  I mean, this dude isn't even repentant about it:

https://www.houstonpress.com/music/musics-10-most-notable-plagiarism-lawsuits-8474090

The former Cat Stevens is quick to jump on anyone he thinks may have misappropriated his music, and he did just that upon hearing the Flaming Lips “Fight Test,” citing its similarity to his own “Father and Son.” So he sued the band, and as a result now owns 75 percent of the song’s royalties. Flaming Lips front man Wayne Coyne, who put on one hell of a show at White Oak Music Hall last month, admitted that he picked up on the similarities pretty quickly, but never thought to get clearance from Stevens or his record label. It cost him, even if he said he would never have done the same; “If anyone wanted to borrow part of a Flaming Lips song, I don't think I'd bother pursuing it. I've got better things to do. Anyway, Cat Stevens is never going to make much money out of us,” he told The Guardian in 2003.

To me as a fiction writer, this very much misses the point.  It's running dangerously close to those people who say "Oh well, I picked thus and such picture up off the Internet, and am going to use it.  I mean, if it's on the Internet it's "free", right?"  I hear from a photographer friend that this is a huge issue of contention on photography blogs.  People who should know better, including in some cases major magazines and publishers, steal someone's photo off a site that is clearly not Creative Commons-marked, and neither credit them nor pay royalties.  And just because they're generally "unknowns" or "lesser-knowns" from whom it is being stolen, doesn't mean that "their work" = "free clip art"; and it doesn't mean they should be termed greedy graspers for wanting to make sure they get payment or attention that will in fact endeavor them to have the career of an Annie Leibowitz or, well, Katy Perry.

I feel like either we as a society say that nobody is ever deemed to "plagiarize" anyone else's intellectual property, because "ideas are free and people truly skilled in their field will have a million of them"; or we strategically enforce the rules and keep on going as we're going, with people free to say "OMG, I can't believe these people sued over two musical chords.  Who do they think they are?!"

What I meant is that Bin is a religious person who thinks he’s better than everyone else (just look at all his tweets), so of course he wants to be saved. Don’t worry, he wants you to be saved too, but you have to live in lower tier heaven.  Reality TV stars and social media influencers get first dibs on Jesus in the afterlife.

I'm thinking Ben should just stay in his lane and be worrying about paying his bills, feeding his children and maybe buying them proper beds.

But you have so much more mental energy for doing things like that if we would just make abortion illegal! His weeping for the children is keeping him from working a normal 9-to-5 job!

This is a bit shallow, but what is up with Henry's hair in that photo?  It reminds me of the "mom cut" from the SNL skit.  Where are his curls?

I'm guessing all that it takes to tame Spurgie's and Henry's soft ringlets is a brush. I would put their hair in the wavy category, in that I think Jessa encourages the curls with a tousle, unlike curly hair that needs no encouragement at all.

Are they just pulling stuff out of their ass? Who said a father kissing their kids is weird? And  "raw pornographic material" probably just means nudity to them.

I'm sure Jessa will change his Twitter password before the next premiere of Counting On. Don't want to lose Golden Child status because something stupid slipped out of his fingers on social media.

He'll gain access back after he impregnates Jessa again.

Yeah, but it was Derrick's assholery that got the Dullards kicked off Counting On. I can't believe Jessa would ever let that happen to her.

Haha I wonder if Jessa chewed his ass about doing something about all the attention her siblings are getting, even though she's churned out a third child (and a girl!), and this was his boneheaded attempt at doing so.

I think he totally believes what he is saying, but I also think he truly thinks he is saying something insightful and impressive and is such a moron that he has no idea how it actually reads. And I'm sure he considers all the blowback proof that he's a martyr and has done well. 🙄

On one hand, I kind of get what he's going for, except I'd categorize the options into "gratitutious gore" and "any kind of sex". Meaning the American public is more accepting of watching people get maimed, killed, or tortured, than of sex, love, and nudity. You can have anyone you want get killed in a film and still have it rated PG-13. One topless female and it's rated R. (I don't know about you, but given the choice I'd much rather see a topless female than people being impaled or shot.)

But then I remember a front hug between non-married people or siblings is also considered taboo to them and then I kind of lose all understanding for what he getting at.

It always leaves me scratching my head when people who claim to support and respect the Constitution (like the Duggar circus and its adjacents) don't get that the First Amendment protects you from the government coming after you for what you say (within reason) but gives you not a damn bit of protection from a privately-owned entity like Amazon.
