This video wasn't anything more than a commercial for that fitness thing she was advertising. She does it for the $$, not that she cares to "share" her life with any "fans".

Oh, absolutely, Jessa doesn't even pretend to care about others; unlike so many influencers (Carlin and Evan, anyone?).  I doubt it works as a money making strategy, but it is kind of refreshing for this crowd.

Given her YT subscriber numbers and the number of views of her videos, I think she's pulling in money. Perhaps a few thousand a month, depending on sponsorships. But she's pretty lazy and sporadic about posting videos. If she got serious about creating interesting content and posted videos more often, she'd probably earn more than that.

I'm sure there are wannabe influencers who would kill to have Jessa's YT subscriber number; at the moment it's 265,000. Thats a sh*t ton of subscribers, especially for such a lackadaisical YouTube creator as Jessa.

Jessa's sitting at 159 videos, which isn't too crazy since her channel was created on 5/31/13.  But, she has 42,966,338 views, which is the most important metric.  YT pays out AdSense based on the number of views, so she's averaging 27,000 views per video.  Estimated yearly earnings are roughly $21,000.  It's a nice chunk of change for not putting in a whole lot of work (*this is Jessa after all*), but she could easily grow it to something more with just a little more effort (*see note above*).

PS-I got all my numbers from Jessa's Social Blade profile.

Jessa's videos don't have ads. I think she makes less than others whose videos contain ads.

Social Blade takes into account whether the account is monetized.  Good news for her, you do not need to be a YT partner to make money (direct source from Google).  Are they supporting themselves on her social media?  Probably not.  Does it bring in some extra cash each month?  Yeah.  I would hope Jessa knows she has to be upfront regarding any paid/sponsored content.  It can't just hidden somewhere on the screen anymore, and they have been cracking down the last year or so.  I have a paid sponsorship with a company on Instagram.  The owner of the business was very open to what I post, but I have to make sure the 'paid sponsorship' box is checked.

Fern’s 3rd birthday week. Got some dolls, doctor kit, a bike from JimBob and Michelle and sunglasses.

Didn’t know Jessa wore shorts. I must’ve missed the memo. Lol!

I kill all plants in my wake, but even I can recognize that's some sort of plant cry for help.

Jeez Jessa, it would take 30 seconds to make your bed. You just look like a slob.

What’s the point of a picture of her with a camera?

I thought they were shadows from the sheets laying over the side.

She's allowed to be a doctor? Or is this like Aunt Jill's midwife Fisher price thingy?

It had a pair of scrubs in it and doctor "thingies" as well. Poor girl. Doesn't realize that all she's going to be allowed to do, is birth babies.

Maybe she will be pushed to be a midwife.  Start early to recognize the "thingies" in the kit.

Still just 2 mattresses on the floor. No desire to get a bed frame.

That’s the part that bothers me the most.

I watched a show on dust mites and other nasty things that live in mattresses and one of the things they stressed was the importance of NOT laying your box spring and mattress directly on the floor because it’s important for air to circulate around and UNDER the bed, it’s important to vacuum your mattress, box spring and flip your mattress regularly plus when your bed is on a frame you can vacuum UNDER it, which is also important!

Pretty hard to vacuum under your bed when it’s laying on the damn floor sandwiched against your box spring providing a perfect moist place for mites to flourish!

I can’t remember all the details but when we sleep, breathe, sweat etc during the night all of that creates moisture which becomes trapped between the box spring and mattress when you have them on the floor and that grows certain types of mold and microscopic spores that feed the mites…. It’s just nasty! 🤢🤮

She doesn’t really make it look great, imo. And why the picture of her with a damn camera? Why couldn’t someone else take her picture?

I’m surprised she hasn’t enlisted one of the kids as her personal photographer. In that photo, all I see is the tree growing out of her head.

Wonder if BSB reached out to Jessa and worked a deal with her, some free clothes if she advertises for them.  BSB maybe want more of the Duggar crowd focused in on their clothes.

Jessa is the worst shiller for anything bc she is so blase about plugging things. In order to plug things you have to have enthusiasm for things you plug. She's pulling up to the thrift sale like she's doing her taxes.

Jessa just spammed FB with her Sayings of ____________. One of the more disturbing ones was Spurgeon imagining terrorists in an art museum.

That kid is starting to worry me.

Because autocorrect changed Spurge's name to an actual word. Haha.

Yeah, not only is the content a little troubling, but Spurgeon should be old enough to have the start of a social filter by now. It's very possible that Spurge is doing this because with 4 siblings and few outlets, saying outrageous things is how he gets his mom's attention.

Yikes. Read the SeewaldKidsSay on FB. The kids' remarks are mostly very unremarkable, one is very gross and a couple are disturbing.

It really does show how sheltered Jessa still is. It also shows she is raising her kids very similar to how she was raised. Spurgie is sticking with his themes of marriage, violence and money.

What are they telling those kids that would make them think of terrorism in the first place? And Spurge has been talking about marriage since he was 5. They must really drill hetero themes into those kids.

This one by Ivy is just so clueless:

Ivy: “Dad, did you know our bodies are half America and half Indian? And our legs are the same thing— half America and half Indian.

It’s from Indians living here, and now we are living here.”

I've said this before, but I think this is one of those areas where not having peers especially bites them in the ass.

Spurgeon is 8, going on 9. If he were in school or even homeschooled more diligently and taken to co-op/extracurricular activities, he'd have friends who weren't his siblings or cousins and he'd have been around them for at least a couple of years by now. He'd probably start to grasp that blurting out weird disturbing shit is a) actually weird and disturbing and b) not as funny or interesting as his mom thinks it is.

I think Spurgeon is smart enough to see that his mom likes getting this kind of content and enough of an extrovert to have no problem performing for her, but he also has no counterbalancing influence that's like "That's weird" or "That's not appropriate."

I really feel sorry for him because at this rate he's probably not going to be around people who aren't his family until he's 18. I've met people like that, and it's pretty hard for them to ever socialize or understand why they struggle with it.

Yes, this.

I'm hesitant to read too much into social media posts, but these posts do seem to suggest potentially difficult times ahead.

I agree. I've seen this play out even in my professional life as a so-called adult. I've deleted the novella I drafted about it. Let's just say that working in firms or government departments with my peers, was invaluable. Even when I had a few supervisors from hell, I had great colleagues. We learn so much from our daily interactions with peers. Whether we're kids (or adults) in school, or out in the workplace. Very little of the learning is a memorable big deal. It's just, as you said, rubbing shoulders with people. Getting feedback. Discovering what can hurt someone's feelings, how to handle a crisis, what work habits are effective, and so much more.

Spurgeon does seem to be very bright, and he's adapting his behavior to please his mom, without the guardrails that a peer group could help him build. Sad indeed.

From what's seen on social media, it looks like this generation (who seem more fundie-lite) are having better childhoods than their parents, especially in the food, safe housing and attention departments. I am worried that the kids who don't have activities or school are even more isolated than their parents, though. Jessa and co. had broom ball with the Holts (before FF) and chances to meet "sweet friends" at the various conferences they all got dragged to. Not the best environments to foster appreciation of diversity or critical thinking, sure, but at least it was more than being stuck roller skating around a house with your growing number of siblings.

I think Jessa is the most like Meech and Boob in terms of parenting. Almost every other kid (other than Josh and Anna of course) I see the children trying to do something that they didn't get to do as kids. Jessa seems to quadruple down on the very things she probably hated the most about her childhood.

To expand on what @Zella and @Minivanessa said...

Just the experience of being a typical child is full of subtle differences. The neighbor whose household is grandparents, mom and kids, the friends of different religions, different dinnertime manners, different bedtime routines, different restrictions and parental expectations, etc. All these things kids take notice of but really don't give it a second thought.

And yes, in adulthood too. Jeremy and Derick are the only ones who have experienced workplace rules, expectations, and differences among colleagues.

Jessa is tough to figure out. I'd hate to be a child of Jessa & Ben. It doesn't seem like a happy home. Both parents are pretty grim and I don't think there's a lot of laughter or adventure in their lives.
