I miss the Canadian episodes and Desta, Fergus, and Eddie. I wonder how they are all doing. What I don't miss are the homes they renovated there. Was it Toronto?  So small, and more often than not, duplexes. 👎

Sheltering has opened a whole new world of watching reruns.  I just cannot with some of these people wanting 37 major changes (must haves:  pool, expanded garage, new master suite with spa bathroom, add a playroom, a game room, a media room, a new kitchen, and change to open concept) with a budget that will barely cover new paint and flooring. It's absurd.

With many homes, it feels like such a waste when they have to get rid of an item on the list or several and I'd love to see what Hillary could do if she had the money she needed to give the couple all they have on their wishlist.

Not me! Most of these people are spoiled as it is, and the thing most of these houses really need is repair because the homeowners didn't take care of their major investment.

Ugh, the couple on the episode that's airing right now is one of my least favorite couples on this show - Justin and Breanne. The couple with the laundry all over the place and she's pregnant. They're both just so obnoxious. She wants a house with five bedrooms, three baths, and an office for Justin, but the house can't be too big. Like David said, "If you want five bedrooms, they're going to be in a 3,000 square foot house, not a 1,500 square foot house." Justin needs two bedrooms, a home office, a laundry room, and a garage added to their current house, and when they need to cut the laundry room from the budget because of the cost of the structural changes they needed to make to support the new spaces on the 2nd floor, he had a tantrum. Who are these people who come on this show and are shocked (shocked!) to find out that construction is fucking expensive?

They loved it, @buttersister. And they ended up getting a laundry room because the 2nd floor came in under budget. They didn't get a garage, though.

I looked it up on Wikipedia once and overall about 2/3 love it and 1/3 list it.

I read some article that said many of the owners who said “list it” still live in the original home.

This show is about getting Hilary and her team to redesign their homes. On TV.

Perhaps some list it, when David, er, they "find" a home that better suits their family. Then, Hilary and her team are playing the roles of the Scott Bros. in Buy and Sell.

I have read the dual endings in several places. I believe it’s done but I don’t know why the show nor the homeowners would want to to this aka Lie?! I guess the show wants an even amount of yes’s & no’s. I guess the homeowners are told in advance of this. I usually just watch the reveal and delete before the homeowners give their answer. It’s a the same design though. The after design is almost all open concept with a beautiful kitchen & a big a** island. I mostly watch to see the kitchen reveal. It’s like porn to me.  LOL!!!

The new episode from Monday night ... where was it? I know they've done a lot in North Carolina. Nice couple with a great reno budget and look-at-houses budget. I really enjoyed the houses that David showed them, but did any of them have garages?  Not a must have on their list, but I was just curious about that.

I love David and Hillary so much. I watched "Vacation House Rules" with Scott McG , and although he is nice, his show seems sort of boring compared to Love It or List It, or any of the Property Brothers shows.

Still in the Raleigh-Durham area. At this point it seems like they're never leaving NC!

I loved the last house David showed in Monday's episode; usually I just FF through his tours, but that one was just my style (if no where near my budget).

I always wonder if the "love it" decision has to do with the amount to crap they have and how incredibly difficult it is to move.  When I had to pack up my house (lived there 35 years) it was absolutely the most stressful thing I think I have ever done.  They will have to carry me out of my current home feet first.  No more moving, ever.

Episode with Mary and Morgan (?) where they have a contemporary-style house in a lake and they can't get the guest room because they are on a septic for 3 bedrooms and that would be a 4th bedroom and they are just so upset that they won't get it. So fake. As if anyone on a septic would think they could just add a fourth bedroom without checking their tank size. People around here do it by saying 4th bedroom not to code or whatever, but if you want an official 4th bedroom, OF COURSE you have to make sure the septic can handle it (she says with a 5 bedroom septic and approximately 7 bedrooms in the house). And how hard would it be to get a foldout couch for visitors? I know it is mostly fake, but you'd think people would dislike having to parrot stupid things on TV.

Asking out of curiosity - what does the number of bedrooms have to do with septic size. I can understand bathrooms or kitchens, but you don't have anything flowing from a bedroom into a septic tank, do you?

It's a rather imperfect proxy for the number of people who might live there-- thus the amount of, ahem....

Bedrooms are defined as rooms with closets, and I believe, a door. So of course you can use a sitting room as a bedroom if you wish. And you can also put two sets of bunk beds in one bedroom. As I said, it's imperfect. Our first house was defined as a three bedroom-- it had another room open to the balcony with no closet that we used as a study. We couldn't advertise it as a fourth bedroom when we sold it.

Absolutely nothing. I may have 7 possible bedrooms but only 3 people live here right now. But I have to have the septic pumped every five years, full or not because of local regulations. If I had 20 people living here, I'd probably have to have it done more often. And it isn't like there is any sensor in it that says "clean me now". But if you live near a lake or river, it behooves you to have the right sized septic (or oversized) and maintain it because any overflow into your body of water would be really yucky.

The couple in this episode (especially since she was a former real estate agent) absolutely knew that a fourth bedroom (to code) was an impossibility and it was thrown on the list just to have something to bitch about and then eliminate.

Seems to me there are so many ways to get around the bedroom issue. But yes, living with a septic system requires care. We're on a semi-septic system, if that makes sense. Our septic tank drains into a neighborhood tank that is pumped out to a waste facility. Never heard of anything like that until we bought our house.

If I wanted another bedroom that wasn't permitted, I would get a permit for a room without a closet, then either furnish it with armoires or build a closet after is passed final inspection.

Folks in the small ranch were the cleanest and most organized people I've ever seen!  A lovely home, just small. (Baby was cute too.) As usual, I loved what Hillary did, but yes, as soon as they have child #2, it will be time to move. I personally would not want to give up a garage. 

I like how they went step-by-step through the house, contractors and designers, thinking about how they could save money. Looks like they did do all new flooring though. I would just be careful nickel-and-dime-ing yourself to save money. It is great to stick to a budget, but while you have the contractors in there, you should have things done right if your plan is to stay there for the long term. For example, not replacing the doors IF the old doors were not a good quality. Hillary could also make budget-friendly selections with the kitchen finishes.

That's be new! I've seen her sacrifice rooms rather than back off on finishes. 

And I don't believe bedrooms need doors to qualify as bedrooms, as it was in my very large loft. Front door, closet doors and bathroom doors, that was it. But it was also U-shaped, so you couldn't see everything from everywhere. I've been told to knock down.a partial wall to open my kitchen all the way to the dining/living room. Ha, I'd like to put up a wallette around the living room. But not according to my wallet.

They’re airing a “Change of Heart” update episode before new episodes this season, and already one of the earlier season 8 couples who said they were listing have decided to love instead.

Two so far, both last week and this week. Interesting that they’re finally admitting more people were just signing up for the reno. I’ll be surprised if they’ll have anyone change their mind and decide to sell. Might as well rename the show “Love it or Lie.”

Long shot but was anyone else watching this show yesterday. I missed the beginning of the episode but it involved a mid-age couple with a large extended family that was heavily involved in the house search.  Anyhow, David kept referring to the husband's "mother" who lived with them (they wanted her to have her own in-law sweet), meanwhile whenever she came up on Hilary's end, Hilary kept referring to to her as "grammie". So was she his mother or his grandmother? Or both lol.  Seriously, the woman wasn't that old and seemed fairly healthy. The couple knew who they were talking about and never corrected either. So wtf?

I'm watching this right now. Just stumbled upon it. Young couple with 2 boys living in a very large Queenslander. The designer's name is Neale and the real estate agent is Andrew. New house budget is 1.2 million Australian $. Reno budget is $200,000 Australian $. I love the way Aussies and Brits say garage. Apparently there have been 3 seasons, beginning in  2017.  Tonight's episode was season 3, episode 1.

I guess the husband on LIOLI Australia never heard of hiring people to do work; he kept protesting "we're not builders". Honey, no one expects you to get a shovel and dig that pool yourself. Going 3 years without a working oven is just lazy.

Anyway, the renovation was awesome but I didn't care for the decorating. Not into flamingo or palm tree statues. The 2 hosts seem nice though and I'll probably watch again. Right now LIOLI is the only thing I watch on HGTV - none of their actors appeal to me.

We’re now 3 for 3 on a “listing” couple staying in the house after all. This week’s Change of Heart, the couple said that they listed the house, but couldn’t sell it for the price they wanted, which makes me think David’s appraisal numbers are total bull. I’m guessing the couple couldn’t sell without fully recouping their reno investment, although they did build enough equity from the project to put in a beautiful pool/backyard, which ain’t cheap.

I was thinking that too. Just hire someone to fix the deck. It seemed like they had money so it wasn't that. And buy a stove and have some put it in. I'm kind of like what the guy (Hilary spot) did but I feel like they lost there outside deck. Unless it opens up as well?

Empty trash bags.

I liked the renovation but he reclaimed  a large portion of the deck to make a ginormous kitchen. He then added those fold-into-the wall glass doors which led out to the dining table. There was no longer any open deck. He used louvered shutters to bring in light and 6 skylights, but I would not have wanted to give up a deck.

OK, I admit I wasn't watching that closely but in that house weren't the boys sharing a bedroom. And there was a big unfinished space in the basement?  So they decided to spend every dime on a bigger kitchen and an enormous dining room and they took away the deck?  I thought the whole thing was just bizarre.
