The Ultimate Will & Grace Ranking Of Grace Adler's Love Life

Recommended Posts

If we're adding 1-off guest stars, how about Sam Truman ("the Will who would have sex with her")?

Putting Will at number one seems a bit of a cop-out, given the dynamic of their relationship. It was the fact that they were so close that - in the show's world - made them unable to be with others in earlier seasons, and so toxic and selfish in later seasons.

I was 100% with Grace on dumping Mark, not because of his weird toe thing but because he took his shoes AND SOCKS off as a guest in someone else's home? Uninvited? Who does that? Even without six toes, no one wants to see your bare feet on their (roommate's) fancy sofa while they're just trying to watch tv. Ugh. I'm getting mad all over again just thinking about it.

I always hated the way they sent Nathan out, by having him find a replacement for Grace in about five seconds. If he loved Grace so much, why would he take a vacation with someone else hours after they broke up?

Danny and Nicholas tie for last place, IMO, they were both totally slimy. I'd judge Tom less harshly than this article did. Josh was a riot. I'm still surprised Grace ended up with Leo. It should have been Ben.

Exactly.  They were the definition of "co-dependent."  Having them go their separate ways for 20 years did them both a world of good, as it forced each of them to grow up and take responsibility for his or her own growth and relationships.  That's why when they finally did reunite as they were helping their kids get settled into college, they were able to take a more mature approach to their friendship and were much more accepting of where the other was in life (note that 20 years later, Will was still with Vince, whom he had probably married as soon as same-sex marriage gained legal recognition, and Grace was still married to Leo).

I will never understand why they paired Grace with Leo in the end, who was excruciatingly boring.  All her other boyfriends were interesting, but Leo was someone who was mainly defined by his career rather than his personality.

Nathan was my favorite.  Besides being funny and sweet, he gelled very well with the other cast.  I hated how they wrote him out, and even more that he moved on from Grace after five minutes.

ITA.  I know a lot of fans were bummed by the finale, but that ending was inevitable.  They had gone through this several times over the course of the series (Will or Grace about to commit to some huge life-changing event that they couldn't handle without their best friend) and it was holding them back from living their own lives.  They were using each other as a crutch and the writers finally realized that they had to stop playing house with each other and grow up.  Even though they reconciled after their births of their children, their lives were just too different for them to go back.  So it made sense that when Ben and Lila were in college, Will and Grace finally had empty nests and were able to start hanging out like they used to.

That's why I'm not all that thrilled about the rumored 10-episode order that's supposedly been commissioned by NBC (the network has yet to confirm or deny it, however).  The show would have to retcon the finale out of existence, since Will and Grace in 2017 shouldn't even be talking to each other, much less hanging out together.  Their reunion isn't supposed to happen until 2028, according to the finale.

Yeah, I thought about that.  I didn't see the political special but everyone said the cast basically slipped back into their old roles and it was nice, blah blah.

Unless the reboot is based on that brief time where W&G were speaking after their kids were born, I'm thinking this will indeed retcon the finale, which I think is a bad idea.  But even 10 years later, the finale still has a poor reception with the majority of W&G fans.

Getting on my soapbox here, I'm sick of everything being rebooted, anyways.  Not everything needs a movie or another several episodes dedicated to it.  Especially for series that actually concluded and weren't canceled midway.  It just feels lazy at this point.  Why come up with something new when you can just dust off the old?

Personally, I'm looking forward to the new episodes. I just hope they're a little better than the last two seasons, which didn't hold a candle to the first 5, imo.

Count me in as someone who hated the finale. I couldn't stand that Grace ended up with Leo, ugh. I could at least understand the separation between W&G, even if I didn't really care for it either. I won't feel too bothered if it's retconned.

Grace had the best chemistry with Ben and Nathan. I don't think Ben was ready to be a one-woman man. Nathan will always be Grace's "one that got away" to me. He was a delight, and I loved Woody Harrelson's work here.

Leo was not a good match and not really a great man, for all the reasons mentioned in the article. He swept Grace off her feet, but he was indeed sneaky. How do you marry someone without telling them that your job may take you away for months at a time? Grace probably assumed that that part of Leo's life was over; I don't think she realized that Leo would jump at the chance to continue his work with Doctors Without Borders after they were married. They both got swept up in the romance of it all without thinking things through, but in my mind, Leo was way more selfish than Grace in their relationship. And that's saying something, because we all know how selfish Grace was.

That being said, I think Leo was funnier and a bit more interesting than people give him credit for. He had a bit of a snarky edge, but was never mean-spirited. He was just a bad match for Grace.

Leo definitely was not a good match for Grace! She needs a doctor's care due to her mental issues, but it had to bother him that she couldn't speak intelligently about ANYTHING! It bothered me more than anything; giving and taking away IQ points throughout the run of the show! They did the same with Karen; years ago she's poor and being raised by a con woman, then later she doesn't know what to do with a glass of ice and a coke that Madonna gives her! Please! Who's writing this $#!t? ;-)
