I don't think all shampoos and toilet papers are of equal quality. To me, some are clearly better. And until I find the company holds values that don't match mine, I'm not letting a commercial sway my decision.

To me, not buying a product because you don't like a commercial is like cutting off your nose to spite your face. I don't go to certain stores on ethical or moral principles (Chic-fil-a or Hobby Lobby) and would never buy any product that has Joanna Gaines name on it. Not buying a product because you don't like a commercial makes no sense to me.

What's wrong with Joanna Gaines?

They belong to the wacko Waco church that believes in gay conversion. They've even had the preacher on their show. Once I found that out, I was done with all of them.

I love it! I feel the same way about commercials that really annoy me - I never buy their products (even if I want to try it). I’m especially annoyed by commercials that try to use sex to sell their product but it has nothing to do with their product! Example - Herbal Essence shampoo. 20(?) years ago. Woman in shower shampooing and making sounds like she’s having an orgasm 🤮 To this day I can’t buy any of their products. Example - Devour frozen meals. I guess the guy thinks he having sex with his lunch by the sounds they’re making and he’s spanking his food with his fork 🤮🤮 I will NEVER buy a Devour product!

Yesss!  Those Devour commercials were at such a high level of douche bro that to this day I won't even try them.  Doesn't even matter if they're massively marked down, my stomach would turn at the memory of those commercials.

Believe it or not, there are still plenty of folks who think this whole pandemic thing is overblown, that social distancing is stupid, that healthy people wearing masks is bullshit, and they themselves are somehow immune. To the extent that these ads promote awareness of the very real danger of COVID-19, I am all for them.

My neighbors have been proceeding as if life is just normal. They had a fricking party last Saturday and this week took off in their camper then came home and several people came over to visit. I just don't get the mentality.

I went out on the 23 of March to pick up a prescription, have been home since then, went out on April 9 to pick up bills at the Post Office box to pay. I won't go out again until early next month. I am old, diabetic and at risk, these people who ignore the stay at home mandates could kill a lot of people who are trying to do the right thing. I do not want to be a victim of their "specialness" that they are immune!

Do you have a law against gatherings of more than 10 people? Maryland's Governor, in addition to a stay-at-home order, made it illegal for gatherings of more than 10 people. punishable by up to 1 year in jail and a $5,000 fine. I read police have investigated over 15,000 complaints, gave out over 665 warnings, and made 19 arrests, including a guy who had 60 people at a bonfire. He got a warning, and then did it again the next night, so they arrested him.

I know people have commented on this before, but I am going to chime in with my white-hot hatred of the "House in a Hurry" ad on HGTV.

The woman sitting on the end of her bed with her mouth hanging open as if she's about to vomit/have a mental breakdown and then her demented Chatty-Cathy-doll "callhercallhercallhercallher" response to her husband.  I CAN'T EVEN.  That mini scene is one of the most rage-inducing things I've seen on tv in a long time.  I'm not sure why I hate it so much, but hate it beyond words I do.

I don't even know if this is a trailer for a new show, or an ad for a house-hunting service - and I couldn't care less.  Whatever they're selling, they can stuff it up their butts - I ain't buying.  Just because of that scene.

Plus, that annoying woman reminds me of Jadis from "The Walking Dead." Another reason why I can't stand that commercial.

We are under a shelter at home mandate, we can go out for groceries, pharmacy trips, that type of thing but are encouraged to stay at home. They recommended no groups over 10 but it is not mandated at this point.

I know I said that I liked the variety of Geico commercials.  So why are they stuck on showing the obnoxious tap dancing commercials?

I really wish they would pull that red Baby Bear not picking up his underwear he left on the bathroom floor Charmin commercial.   I can't be the only one that wants to give that obnoxious little snot an atomic wedgy.   His undies wouldn't be so clean after that.

I am avoiding as many commercials as I can.   They seem to be stuck on the "I feel your pain" type of commercials.  Seeing one every so often isn't a big deal, but with so many commercials from various companies going down that same path, I find it irritating.

And they all care so much about us. Right.

And don't forget the sleazy porn sounding music playing in the background of that commercial.

I saw it again today and the music does not strike me as porny. It sounds more like it's trying to convey a romantic classiness and calm. Which is even dumber, IMO.

That doesn’t bother me because I actually do know some young people who are completely clueless about some of that stuff. I went out with a friend who’s ten years younger than I am and she completely boggled that I ordered dinner and bought movie tickets with my phone. And then asked for vacation from work, too.

That reminds me of the Always (I think) commercial where they announce in the beginning that some percentage of women don't realize they're using the wrong size pad.  I don't understand this.  All the different absorbencies are on the same aisle.  The pad and tampon boxes list the other absorbencies on the side.  When you bleed through one pad faster than you'd like, you don't think to yourself, "Hey, maybe I should look into those other absorbencies"?  Like, I don't always accurately predict which absorbency I'll need, so maybe I, too, am using the "wrong" size, but it's not because I need to be informed of the existence of others.  I feel like they're inventing a problem.

I think it's safe to assume what Pepto Bismal is and why people need it or use it. So I reallyyyyy hate that new commercial with the song that lists what ailments it relieves. ESPECIALLY the drawn out "diarrheaaaaaaa."

It just so happened I was doing something else, so didn't grab my remote in time to fast forward the commercials. Yeah, I record EVERYTHING. I can't recall the last time I watched something live.

I hate all of these commercials lately (Kroger, Walmart, etc.) where they're thanking their employees.  They may be addressing the employees but the commercials aren't for the employees' eyes; they're for the consumers'.  I'm sure it would be a hell of a lot cheaper for them to thank their employees via their typical in-company communication.

I especially dislike the WalMart one that uses Stand By Me.  I first heard it a day or two after Bill Withers died, and it seemed exploitative to use Withers music so soon after his death.

The commercial with the TLC stars thanking first responders is probably well intended, but the delivery is disingenuous. Amy Roloff looks like she's grimacing in pain and the Long Island Medium's crocodile tears are just embarrassing.

It is an Always commercial; this is what mean when they talk about the "wrong size". From their website:

Quote

Did you know: 60% of women wear the wrong size pad? 100% can change that. At Always, your protection and comfort are our priority. We know that having a menstrual pad that fits properly provides you with the period protection you need. The ‘one size fits all’ thinking doesn’t quite work when choosing your feminine hygiene products. Everyone is a unique size and has a unique menstrual flow. A fit based on your shape and flow offers you the best protection and comfort. We want to help you find your best pad with Always My Fit™.

---

The Always products are designed to fit different body shapes and sizes and to provide protection for all types of period flows (from a light flow to a very heavy flow). Whether you prefer a sanitary pad with wings or without wings, thick pads (Always Maxi pads) or thin pads (Always Infinity, Always Radiant, and Always Ultra Thin), or day or overnight protection, there are several options of pads to choose from to fit your shape and flow.

In order to help you make the best selection from our range of products, we have prepared an easy sizing chart for you to use: Always My Fit. Simply select your panty size and menstrual flow level to find the coordinating size pad for you. Or take our Always My Fit Quiz here. The Better It Fits, The Better It Protects.

Rumor had it that the reason for the abrupt exit from Fixer Upper was because Chip had an affair with a woman who worked on the show. But maybe it was because they were already planning to triple down on their fame with their new ventures.

Do you mean Lean on Me?  The story is that the commercial was inspired by a Walmart associate who sang for his coworkers, this happening before Bill Withers' death.  I've heard the song being used frequently in video montages, etc,   Losing Mr Withers was an unfortunate coincidence.

Cannot stand the new Geico commercial with the couple in their new apartment and they have a “clogging” problem. The problem is the family of 10-12 people who are literally dancing (clogging) in the apt above. Soooooo incredibly stupid 🙄, irritating 😠, and grating on the hearing and nerves 😖.  I have to mute or change the channel.

I actually love that commercial.  MMV, as usual.  I think it's funny.  Yes, silly as most Geico commercials are.  I'm a fan of clogging and tap dancing, so I like it.

Whereas I would buy HE in a heartbeat if it smelled like it did when it first came out in the 70s (actually herbal, and before aforementioned stupid ad!)

I think I hate every single "in these difficult times" ad that is on the air right now. We get it, we're all in this together, you're there for us, thank you first responders blah blah blah. It's just too much. They are all worthy sentiments but at this point it feels like virtue-signalling.

Well, I understand that some of these companies need to keep their brands out there even if they can't sell us anything at the moment. Also, I wonder if some of them have committed to advertising $$$ for the quarter, or even for the year, so that they feel they have to use the air time they've already paid for.

The ones that bug me are the car ads that oh-so-generously offer to pay 4 months of your lease if you lose your job; in fine print, it says 'for very qualified buyers'. IOW, the people likeliest to lose their jobs probably don't have enough income or savings to get this perk. So thanks for nothing, car company.

That's fair.  Since I've had my fill of hearing about "these trying times," I vote for such companies to put out commercials that are like, "This whole thing sucks for everyone.  Here's 30 seconds of puppies frolicking, brought to you by Company."

That would be awesome. You missed your calling, my friend.

And also because of their immense love for the Baylor football team at a time when several of the players were convicted of raping women on campus, and then the athletic director, coaches, and the president of the university (Ken Starr) tried to cover it up.  The Gainses had several episodes redoing homes for coaches, assistant coaches, the pastor for the team, visits to the stadium, etc.   All the people who should have stopped it but didn't.

In one of the Toyota commercials where they talk about how much they care, they had to have "Jan" delivering the message.  After seeing it several times in a short time, I blurted out, "You're not a real person!  You're an actress!"  Not quite what I was trying to say, but it was weird that they're trying to have a sincere message, but make her still be in character (though toned-down).

I have seen where a few different auto insurance companies like Allstate and State Farm are going to lower peoples' premiums because we aren't driving as much.  Which sounds great, but probably won't help that many people.  I have a feeling that this will not be allowed in my state which has some weird insurance laws.

I've seen about a dozen auto insurance companies have announced that - I heard from USAA, who I've been with for 35 years. Most aren't lowering premiums, which might need approval by state regulators, most have been calling them credits on one or more month's premiums.

I think she looks like a digital creation and not even a real person. In the new one that I'm seeing, the lip synch is off and her voice sounds a little weird, like artificial intelligence bots on phone calls, and I have noticed that in the past in the "Jan" Toyota commercials.

The Trolls movie is out available on demand* but that won’t stop those ads because they seem to have a connection to any number of products.  While annoying I can usually tune those out.

The ad I hated to see return, and can’t get to the remote fast enough to change the channel, is the bad acid trip that is promoting a gummy candy called Trolli, no relation to the movie.  The candies look like gummy worms.  I won’t inflict you all with a link to it.

*I should clarify that it is available on demand to rent not to see for free.

I’m shaking my head at the PSAs from celebs saying how we’re all in this together, we’ll get through this together, etc.  Right. You all are in you ginormous houses with everything you need. Meanwhile millions find themselves without jobs, health care, or security about where their next meal is coming from. But we’re in this together.
