The ad campaign with Amy Poehler for XFinity. I. hate. all. of. them. But especially the one with her watching wonderful XFinity TV and she orders a pizza delivery. The delivery guys shows up and she shrugs her shoulders and tell him she does not have her wallet. What a SPECIAL SNOWFLAKE!!! She either expects the poor pizza guy to eat the cost of the pizza and give it to her or the poor schmuck working at the store to buy it for her out of his minimum wage salary. If you are so cheap that you won't pay for your own pizza, don't order it!!!!

Rant over.

Calm your berries sweetie. It's a parody of a common porn trope. It's stupid, I agree.

I was going to say that's where he keeps his condom, but I just looked the commercial up on iSpot and don't at all get the vibe that it's parodying the pizza delivery guy porn trope -- she's in a store with a bunch of people around, not at home, but she's in her pajamas with a blanket because xfinity has so much to offer she settled in like she was on her own couch (the commercial is called "Make Yourself at Home").  The way she says she doesn't have her wallet doesn't at all mimic the "so I guess I'll have to pay you some other way" way it would go in porn.  Plus, there's no cheesy music, and you can't have a porn parody without the bow-chicka-bow-bow.

I don't like the one with the unseen dog vigorously humping her leg.

This commercial always reminds me of the short-lived Paula Abdul reality show Hey Paula.  Among the many annoying things she did on the show, there were at least two incidents (one at a coffee shop and one when she wanted something out of a vending machine at the airport) where she didn't have her wallet and talked strangers into paying for things for her.

I will try to calm my berries. (I love that saying!)

I guess my mind did not go there because it was in a public setting.

Unless that is a secret fantasy for Amy P. Who knew??

To be perfectly honest, I've never seen the commercial. I was just going by your description. Maybe you missed your calling? 🤔

I really don't think Xfinity was trying to parody a porn trope. That just doesn't make sense in the context of the commercial. If anything, it's them making a joke that a likely fairly wealthy spokesperson is trying to wiggle out of paying for a pizza (while simultaneously free-loading cable in their showcase).

I would have preferred to see something ala Fast Times at Ridgemont High, where the person ordering pays and the pizza Is all taken by the surrounding people.

Did that happen in Fast Times? I remember it from Can't Buy Me Love, but I guess it could have happened in both.

Yeah, just watched it. It has nothing to do with a porn parody. It isn't even the pizza guy reaching for his wallet, it's the store guy, so why would the store guy be reaching for condoms? And the clapping of hands? yeah, no, not a porn parody, just a terrible commercial.

I used to like Amy Poehler but these commercials are killing any good feelings I felt towards her.

I haven't seen CBML in a while, so I'm blanking on that at the moment. It was in a classroom in Fast Times.

I've never seen "Can't Buy Me Love" but it did happen in FTARH.

Spicoli is late for Mr. Hand's class, and blames it on "long lines at the food machines".  Mr. Hand informs him that he needs to be on time, and eat on his own time.

At some later point, Spicoli is again in Mr. Hand's class, when there is a knock on the door (Mr. Hand locks the doors at the start of class, due to his irritation with truancy).  It's a pizza guy, played by perpetual "where do I know him from?" actor Taylor Negron.  Spicoli ordered a pizza, and had it delivered.  Mr. Hand is first annoyed, but then decides to turn it in to a lesson.  Class  time is not strictly Spicoli's time, but "our time", and since it's "our time", everyone gets a slice.  Except Spicoli.  He is bummed.  Later, Linda asks Stacy if she heard about Spicoli, and that he beat up Mr. Hand (or something similar) and Stacy comments on how rumors get out of hand so quickly.

Two commercials annoy me lately.

The first is a Cox Communications commercial where a daughter goes away to college or moves out. Apparently she’s able to control the lights at her parents’ house because she turns on the light from her tablet at her new location. There’s something about a teen not  living at home controlling the household via an iPad that bugs me.

The other commercial is a Stanley Steamer ad. A kid wins a video game and does a happy dance. He accidentally punches himself in the crotch, causing his friend to spit out his pink milkshake all over his face and spill on the carpet. Teenage girl (either a babysitter or older sister) slides an ottoman over the mess and goes back to her phone. All three kids need to be smacked upside the head.

There’s one commercial I just don’t get.  It’s for Charmin, and talks about how you really need to be clean down there when you’re meeting his parents. Really?  You think the parents are going to make him bend over for a clean butt check?

I despise every Jamie commercial.

I'm not a fan of the commercial overall, but apparently I'm twelve, because I laugh every time I see that kid punch himself in the crotch.

Lifetime or Hallmark?

I'd go with Lifetime, they seem to have more crazy killers than Hallmark, which is more into silly romances.

I don't know how it happened, but I can program my GF's DVR from my iPhone using the Spectrum app. We both have Spectrum, and my iPad controls my DVR, as does the web-based dashboard using my internet browser, but somehow, my phone works her DVR.

I've been meaning to post this same complaint for ages (but too busy watching TV, ha ha) ~ thank you, Margol!  I've noticed this trend in commercials where comic actresses portray obnoxious versions of themselves that apparently are supposed to be madcap characters.  For me, it started with Tina Fey and her American Express card.  Then, Anna Kendrick for Hilton, and now Amy Poehler ("Oh, someone else wants a turn playing with the Xfinity remote?  That's too bad, I'm comfy here!").  I can't fathom how this is supposed to enhance their careers or personas, but maybe that's not the point.

It's odd that they don't show Poehler happening upon Xfinity in the electronics store, becoming mesmerized by all its options, and not leaving for hours (including ordering a pizza so she doesn't have to take a break to eat), but instead show her having donned her PJs and grabbed a blanket (but not her wallet) to settle in at the store with all the programming offerings there, instead of just having it installed at home; it sends the unintentional message the service is not affordable.

I think it's just an expansion of what is often seen on TV sitcoms.  You have an ordinary looking everyman guy, often a bit chubby, who has a wife that seems a bit too hot for him, and to justify that discrepancy in looks, the wife is portrayed as being stupid, bitchy, or obnoxious.  Poor everyman, he's got the hot wife but she makes his life so much more difficult than if he'd found someone at his own level of attractiveness.

Then, Anna Kendrick for Hilton,

I know the ad you're referring to. I have no idea who Anna Kendrick is. The only thing I've ever seen her in is the Hilton ad where in addition to touting Hilton she's also talking about the Hilton app. I love Hilton properties, especially Hampden Inn (hot breakfast!) and DoubleTree (Chocolate Chip cookies!) And their app is awesome. I've used it to check in before we get there, pick my room, and you can use it as a room key. They are also replacing their tub/shower combos with a huge walk-in shower. Not sure what parents with young children do, but I appreciate getting rid of the tub which is a fall hazard for this old lady.

Yeah, but who cares about that?  It wouldn't make sense if the couple were straight, gay, trans or anything else.  It's just a stupid commercial.  I know I didn't worry about my butt when I first met my future in laws.

Them being gay men in an adult relationship has... implications.

GF had to tell me who she was, then I had to Google her to see why people would know her.  I haven't seen anything that she's been in apart from the Hilton ads.

I always ask for the handicapped room, stating that I have balance issues. If they'd put grab bars (in the right places) in ALL the rooms, it'd be much safer. But I hate when the grab bars are along the back wall, below the soap dish (for the people sitting in the tub) and right under the showerhead. I need one on the wall just OUTSIDE the tub so I can climb out without holding on to the shower curtain rod.

The BEST shower I've seen in a hotel was in the Best Western Coastline Inn in Wilmington, NC  ("Coastline" cause it's next to the Atlantic Coastline RR museum). It's one of those Roman showers that you just walk into with no doors or curtains. It's got a "rain" showerhead. If I liked Wilmington better, I'd stay there ALL the time.

I just saw a Bob Furniture's store where they had a bunch of people who had never heard of a store, and were amazed that people would drive to a store, and "tell me more about this store thing."

I get it.  Internet shopping. But, come on. Everybody has been to some kind of store at least once in their life.
